They have broasted chicken, tacos, salads and other sandwiches too. Best of all, they have sundaes, shakes, malts & cyclones (like DQ blizzards). The place is clean, including rest rooms. This is the kind of place that reminds me why I love road trips. Lots of local flavor in the food and the people. We enjoyed nachos, taco salad, a great BLT, and of course the ice cream. The location is fun and a nearby neighbor let us stake our dog out in his shade while we ate. They even kept the stuffed turtle my daughter forgot on the table and we were able to rescue it four days later on our way back through. Five stars, perfect! read more

Pleasant little eatery, clean and bright (interior is white and orange). Large variety of shakes, including cinnamon, pineapple, and rhubarb. Note that the rhubarb shakes(recommended by previous reviewers and indeed very good) are NOT listed on the blackboard; you have to ask for them. My husband and I both got a broasted chicken breast ($3.50), onion rings ($3.50), and a large rhubarb shake ($4.95, 22oz). The food came hot and wonderfully crispy from the oven and fryer. The chicken was accompanied by a fork (but mysteriously, not a knife), and this implement was needed to tackle the very hot chicken. This place is unassuming but the food is fantastic. I had the chicken sandwich and my father had the bacon cheeseburger. The new owners raise the beef themselves at their ranch, and the quality and attention to detail shows. We will be returning on our drive back home. read more

It's a great greasy spoon type joint. We both had the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. The burger was really good but by the time we finished it we were too full for the onion rings. Granted we don't eat too much and we have been eating out all weekend. They were good, we were just too full to finish. They may not be the best I've ever tasted, but they're still good and worth ordering... and worth the extra couple of dollars. Service. The women working the night we visited were quick to take our order and quick to get our food to us. They also were quick to help with anything we asked about. All around, great employees! === THE BAD === Pretzels. I know it's weird to specifically call out pretzels, but they had a hand-printed sign advertising pretzels and we saw several people with them, so we thought, "Hey, let's order a pretzel!" Don't. Just don't. It's not even close to worth it. If you've never been to a ball park or pretty much anywhere else that has good pretzels and have no idea how good a good pretzel can be, then feel free. Otherwise, don't. They're just... ugh. For Sale. Go to the website and you can't help but notice the ginormous "FOR SALE" writing across the top. I don't know what that means for the food, etc. but a lot of what you're reading here could mean nothing relatively soon. We stopped and stayed in Murdo on our way to Northern Wyoming. We love hamburgers so we saw the Drive In and had to try it! We ordered a couple of bacon cheese burgers I think with fries. We didn't have to wait long for the food and we could take it to go and eat in our motel room. Needless to say the burger was great, just slightly over cooked, but the grass fed beef was wonderful. No complaints about the food or service. I don't know if we will be back, only because I don't know how often we will drive through South Dakota. read more

Stopped in and had the grass fed beef burger! It was awesome! Super soft bun! Fries were good and the service was even better they brought my food outside to the outdoor eating area. Also had the milkshake and that was very good as well. Nice clean bathrooms wood highly recommend. read more

Great local spot along the highway! There aren't a lot of options along this stretch of the highway and we are SO glad we stopped here! The service was excellent! Everyone was so nice. I'm a vegetarian and they made me a veggie sandwich that was not on the menu. Then they came outside as we were eating to check to see it if was good! The best burger my mother ever had. The best garden salad I've ever had - it came with lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, tomato, and carrots. It is really hard to get vegetables when eating out that aren't fried or smothered in butter or oil. The garden salad was finally a healthy option that was high quality. I Read the reviews for this and decided to have a burger here passing through. The grass fed burger was good, but I thought, over priced. $7.25 for just the burger and no side or drink. And if you want lettuce, tomato and onion you can pay another .75. Wow. We ordered the corn nuggets and they were also good...for $3.55...all 8 of them . my husband and I each had a burger (no tomato lettuce or onion) and shared the corner nuggets because we thought there would be more in the big bag they came in, and shared a small drink for $21. read more

We stopped while recently traveling through town. I think the business name has changed to "Circle E Drive In". It looked like it may have been renovated. Located in a very small town, it looked to be a family-run restaurant. I felt un-easy watching a very young boy help work the restaurant (had to be 10-12 years old). We placed our order to-go, the girl taking our order was very kind & friendly. Unfortunately, it was not quick. It took at least 25 mins to get our order. We ordered a plain hamburger & a cheeseburger on a gluten free bun, along with a large order of fries to share. Although, the burgers were hand-made, the meat was not seasoned and the outside of both were VERY char-broiled. The first inch of meat was hard and unedible. The gluten free burger was not built in a manner that was even able to be eaten in a bite (see photos). The large bag of fries were less than half-filled and also not salted. Murdo Drive-In is a very clean place just off the interstate with friendly service and great food. If you're looking for one of those unique local places, you've found it! This is most definitely NOT one of those national chain serving freeze-dried mass-produced food that tastes like plastic. I was going to order a burger but asked the cashier what she recommended. She smiled from ear to ear and I think she almost blushed as she said, "Actually, our enchiladas are the best!" I couldn't resist - I had to try the enchiladas. Now, you have to go into this open-minded. This is SOUTH DAKOTA, so I wasn't expecting authentic Mexican food. That being said, I thought the enchilada was very tasty (even though it didn't have any enchilada sauce). The milkshakes are good, too! read more

After a long day of community service in the field of livestock preservation through burrowing rodent reduction, with a bonus exploding refrigerator thrown in, a nice burger really does hit the spot. Better than a burger is a double burger, and better still if you can get that with bacon. Well, my friends, you can, in fact, get that doubled and with bacon!!! A lovely hot fudge and butterscotch malt was also consumed enthusiastically. The fries come in generous portions, so you might be okay with a small order instead of the gargantuan one. The burger patties were either hand made or from some source I am not familiar with, as told by their thickness. Pre-made patties are generally flat and very stackable. These were neither. The bacon was a novel thing that I forgot to ask about. It was spiral shaped and just the perfect size. The Carnivore wholeheartedly endorses this establishment, especially after a long day of varmint hunting and refrigerator exploding. If this makes sense to you, congratulations on being a man. Great little spot off Route 90 with amazing burgers! We were looking for a quick bite to eat after leaving the Badlands and are so happy we chose this place! Got their deluxe burger and it was absolutely delicious!! The patty was juicy and flavorful and the fries were crispy and not too greasy. One of the workers came out to chat while they were getting ready to close and he was so friendly! Truly the emblem of Midwest hospitality. Really liked this place! We got bacon cheeseburgers to go, with a large fries. The burgers hit the spot- juicy, and with very fresh produce (lettuce especially- wow!). The fries were a tad boring, and... for some reason, they leaked through the bag and left grease stains on my leggings. :( such a bummer, and I'm not sure how it happened since they were at the top of the bag, unless it's actual fry grease... in which case a more solid bag for them would be a good idea. Next time I'd go for the broccoli bites instead of the fries, those looked interesting. read more

This is probably the cleanest drive-in I've ever been to. Picnic tables outside and basic diner type furnishings inside. Cordial employees and fairly varied menu. Looks like broasted chicken and hamburgers are their specialties. My husband really liked his bacon cheese burger. I don't recommend the taco salad -- very plain, basically lettuce and ground beef with a couple of chunks of tomato and a little cheese. No onion or salsa let alone guacamole or spices. And very small. Go with the top sellers - lesson learned. We would stop in again as we go through Murdo several times a year. I'll have a burger next time. read more

Place was spotless and the folks were super friendly. Rhubarb shake was also a nice treat for something new but probably wouldn't order again. Best place in town but a bit on the pricey side for a drive in. $34 for three people is a bit excessive and when they say small drinks they mean small drinks! For $3.50 you get four broccoli bites. Excellent, excellent traditional American burger joint done very well. Tasty burgers cooked to juicy perfection, the bun holds up well to the juiciness of the burger without being dry. My wife and I were traveling cross-country with our dog, and this was a perfect choice: shaded covered patio with ample seating that was impeccably clean. Great bargain on traditional soft serve ice cream (even one for doggie with house doggie water on side). Super friendly staff. My only complaint: the onion rings, while delicious, were just a tad sweet for my taste...but still worthy of five stars for being everything an American burger joint should be. read more
