The last time we were here was 2013 with our kids, on the way home from Yellowstone. We just happened upon this place then, but the pizza was so good that my husband and I stopped here again on our way back from another road trip. We waited 1.5 hours for it to open, and I ended up having a great chat with the owner while we waited for our order. What makes this pizza so amazing is the non-traditional dough and the cinnamon crust which you dip in the side of frosting. IT'S SO GOOD! Murdo is a small town, and this place was an unexpected find that will always keep us coming back!

The toppings were hiding under the cheese. The delicious cheese.

We found this little slice of heaven (see what I did there?) while stopping for gas in the little town of Murdo, SD. There was a billboard for it a little ways down the highway and it was easy to get there from the interstate. The claim to fame here is that sugar and cinnamon are baked into the edge of the crust and the pizza is served with vanilla icing. So you eat the pizza normally, then dip crust into the icing for baked-in (did it again) dessert. Staff was pleasant if not necessarily outwardly friendly, and because the place was filled with Mask Deniers, we opted to sit outside and they were nice enough to bring the pizza out to our table. The pizza was very good and the leftover pieces remained tasty over the next couple days, even cold. The main reason for four stars instead of five is really the lack of masks and other sanitary precautions that were not in observance here at all.

Small town, little above average pizza; the crust was cinnamon & came with icing, interesting twist. Decor was cowboy. Location is near freeway. Waitress was very straight forward.

So you are driving, and driving, and driving some more across South Dakota and are looking for somewhere to eat. The first thought is another fast food grease fest or scary bar, then you see this cute little pizza place - okay I will give that a try. Wow - fresh made pizza, super friendly service and a good price. I was not expecting that. Want to talk about not expecting, the crust is cinnamon filled! They give you a sweet icing to drizzle your crust with making for a perfect dessert when you are done with the cheesy wonder. And the five stars is for all that, I did not add stars for how happy I was to find Prairie Pizza where I did. Honestly, I wish I had one down the street for all my pizza needs. Wonder if I have a need to return to SD any time soon?

Cattlebaron Combo pizza... The best Pizza in South Dakota ... hands down. PERFECT!!

The restaurant is very clean, but they have weak customer service. They got caught up making pizzas instead of attending to customers.

The bartender did acknowledge our existence initially with a cheerful, "I'll be right over!" -- a promise that turned out to be more fictional than a Disney fairy tale. Instead of coming over, she expertly perfected the art of not serving customers by exclusively tending to her friends at the bar, laughing, chatting, and clearly prioritizing everyone but us. But wait -- it gets better. Mid-shift, she decided that serving customers was overrated and serving herself was the real calling. She plopped down behind the bar, housed an entire pizza like a competitive eater, and casually sipped Mountain Dew, all while making confident eye contact with us for a solid 30 minutes like a slow-burn psychological thriller. At this point, we realized the bar's customer-to-staff ratio was perfectly balanced -- because there were no customers being served at all. An impressive business model if your goal is to win a Guinness World Record for Most Ignored Guests in a Dining Establishment. We left hungrier than when we came in, but at least now we have a great story about the bartender who redefined "service industry" to mean "self-service only." Would I go back? Only if I develop a fetish for disappointment.
