Very Good...Burger had great flavor and I added the waffle fries, came out hot and crispy. Fresh vegetables and real BACON! Service was fast and the staff helped with recommendations and were very helpful and polite. Restaurant has a 70's car theme with metal signs, license plates and an old fashioned diner feel. $14 for a good sized bacon cheese burger deluxe and waffle fries. I would recommend you stop and give it a try. read more

Great place to eat. Good service, they are friendly and clean. And the best part is ITS REAL MEAT!

Burgers were unbelievably good, service was even better, and the place is very clean! 100/10 recommend!!!

Fast food for lunch. Service was good. Recommended for lunch instead of just going to chains.

We ordered our pulled pork baskets at the counter. The place is small and busy. They had a lot of cars in the drive through as well. Our names were called quickly. The pork sandwich was large. The fries are the shoestring type and cooked crispy. My hubby got the same sandwich but got the baked beans which he said was delicious. Great choice. read more

Great smash burgers here. I also enjoy their sweet potatoes fries. Inside is small but clean.

Pretty solid diner, I had the cheese steak and it was packed full of beef. Meat, peppers, and onions grilled up nice and hot. Not a ton of flavor, though. Also opted for the onion rings, which was an upsell, unfortunately, they were soggy, oily and no crunch. Staff was incredibly friendly and fast. read more

Local fast food burger place. Personifies the old can't judge a book by its cover adage. Impressive menu for such a small place. I saw patty melt on the menu and i thought to myself when was the last time I had a good one. The answer to that question I am happy to say is today. Quickly prepared and perfectly executed. I can't wait to give this place another go! read more

Where is the occasion did you find a place that actually makes its own bread it prepares all of its own soups even the chili. We had a very lovely experience in this states capital everything was wonderful but to come down to the diner at the basement of the capital building both historic and delicious at the same time lol I had a bowl of chili and it was absolutely wonderful... I almost wish they served it in a bucket sized bowl. read more

This is the place to go to for comfort food at a great value. Service is friendly with a ready smile and explanation of the days special or menu selections. You get to see the food prepared as you wait is a comfortable and charming setting. This is the place you go to in order to cure hunger. A great local restaurant that I hope is around for a long time to come. read more

I became a bit apprehensive as we walked in on a Sunday afternoon to a greasy little place, smashed french fries on the floor and devoid of any other patrons. Had we chosen the wrong burger joint? No. Big Tom's is a find! Friendly service, great food cooked to order and you just have to embrace the divey ambience. The hamburger buns baked on-site really set Tom's apart from all the rest--they're great. We spent about 24 bucks on two cheeseburgers (one with mushrooms and swiss, the other with bacon), two orders of waffle fries and two soft drinks. Reasonable. read more

Big Tom's Diner - Barbeque Near Me - Pierre, South Dakota

We were in town to check out the South Dakota state capital while on vacation and decided to grab some lunch. There were several chain fast food places to choose from, but why do that when there is a local place like Big Tom's. It's not large or fancy but it is small and charming. When you step in there is a counter with the menu boards hanging on the wall. We were greeted by a nice man, not Tom, who took our order. They have a variety of items on their menu although I'm guessing some items are pre-made. I would suggest sticking to the items prepared "in house" and there were several of them. Based on other reviews, we opted for the double bacon cheeseburger with fries and were not disappointed. The burger was fresh, not a frozen patty, and huge. The bacon was crisp adding a nice crunch. The one thing missing from this place is ice cream shakes. It would have been nice to see fewer "food" options on the menu and add shakes to go with the great burgers. Focusing on a few things done well can go a long ways vs trying to satisfy every tastebud. Also it's important to note that Big Tom's also has a drive-thru option If you are not interested in stopping and eating inside. read more

Definitely feels like a traditional diner. I walked in starving, and the male cashier was quick to help and explain things on the menu. BBQ is smoked and cooked for 13 hours, buns are made fresh everyday, etc. I ordered the BBQ basket with waffle fries and a drink. I was very impressed. Simple presentation, delicious food. Only reason for 4 stars was the taste of the BBQ sauce. I'm not sure if it's an automatic one they put on, or if I could change it. I prefer more of a tangy sauce, and this was a little different. Still not bad overall! read more

One of our favorite places in town, and the best burgers around. When family and friends come and visit this classic burger joint is a must! We are especially fond of the shoestring style fries that have that extra crispy bite! Not to mention pulled pork and ribs that should be against the law. The atmosphere is fun and reminiscent of a classic old fashion diner, they never disappoint! read more

Best burger in South Dakota. Not kidding. I know there are some good ones in the black hills, but if you want the best burger - this is it. Been to Pierre for kids travel ball and work; always stop here. As often as I can. Family also enjoys it. Fresh buns, great tasting beef, just a touch of grease...perfect burger. Get it loaded. They have other items on the menu that I want to try but can't get past the awesome burger. Clean. Typical amount of time from order to serve. They even have a drive through. I almost forgot. Order a double order of waffle fries!!!! read more

Not sure what to make of this place. It is down home food and a diner feel. Staff was friendly but the food was well...all over. The ham and cheese was ok not great. The fries on several dishes were blah shoestring. The cowboy burger was pretty good with bbq and onion rings on a soft white bun the size of a small kitchen plate. The ribs fell off the bone and the eating party said they were good the potato salad was ok. The chicken tenders were just off on meat to breading ratio and as bland as any out there. The pulled pork sandwich was somehow on a soggy bun only 5 min after getting the food. The worst was the bbq sauce i gave several others to taste. Somehow it tasted dirty. I don't know how else to describe it. Honestly one of the worst bbq i have had but the coleslaw was good. Would say a but of a gamble on food so i would not say is a stop in to me. read more

Good food that is relatively inexpensive. I was looking for a place for burgers and the usual fast food places in Pierre were no bueno. Somebody recommended Tom's and I was really pleased. As I walked in, I was greeted by the scent of homemade hamburger buns. What a treat. Service was fast and friendly. This is the place if you want burgers / fast food fare in Pierre. read more

This is a local family owned diner simple easy sandwiches and BBQ. Most of the items are hand made right here in front of you. Hot and cold food If there was a rating of 4.5 stars they would get the rating. Nice folks the owners son was at the grill cooking and everyone was nice and just down to earth. Which is something missing at a lot of food shops. Thanks for a nice easy and simple lunch. Old diner atmosphere. Like it Peace read more

This restaurant is a quaint little place with fifty's style decor lots of license plates and old signs. The service was quick quick and kind. The prices on things were fairly priced (full rack of ribs with one side for $16). They do NOT have the southerner burger which is actually a thing in Florida. They do have the cowboy which is about the same as a Burger King rodeo burger but higher quality. The reason for only three stars is the chicken strips were floury and not amazing which would be excusable, but the BBQ on both the ribs and the sandwiches tasted "dirty" like the grill hadn't been cleaned or something not enough to ruin the meal but not super amazing. I was very happy with both the coleslaw and potato salad the fries are shoestring and we're fine. If you are taking your food to go they do have silverware sets, plastic bags, and napkins for you. read more

I always forget about this restaurant. It's a favorite of my parents and one day they offered to pick up supper to celebrate after a soccer game we all attended and I said sure. I ordered the same as my son because I didn't know what to order and he and I have comparable tastes. I ended up with this gigantic jalapeño cheeseburger and fried pickles. I couldn't even finish it. My mom always gets the ribs and she has leftovers for days. Really good food, don't forget it! read more

We were HUNGRY - and this place hit the spot! All 5 of us found something delicious. If you feel like a fresh hamburger on a fresh bun then this is the ace for you too! When they started cooking - oh, it smelled so good! If we were local, we'd be regulars for sure! read more

A friend of mine kept telling me how great the baby back ribs were at this place so had to give them a shot! To start with I found they had a drive through...yes a drive through where you can get baby back ribs! Well I was very excited to try this place out. I pulled up to the drive through order place and sat for 2 minutes or so. (Was hoping for a quicker response time, but ok, ribs take a while and require consistent attention.) the order taker told me she would be with me in a moment...4 minutes later she was ready to take my order. Upon which she was interrupted at least twice as I recall while taking my order. AnywaY I ordered two full racks of ribs and 4 fries for my wife and two kids. The wait was lengthy at the pick up window and the window person was very obviously stressed. She handed me our order and off we went. When we got home and opened our containers, the "full" rack turned out to be "half" racks. Anyone knows a full rack is the whole rack. But not Tom. The fries were too stale to eat. The ribs not good at all. The sauce was terrible. Not sure what it's made of but I've eaten at a lot of good bbq joints across the country and this wasn't good. I wish I had taken pictures for you but we were so dissatisfied, it just didn't even occur to me. I think many of the locals actually do think this is good food because they've never had anything good in this town. It's not good but Tom seems to stay open so I'm glad someone likes his food. Not me for sure. If you're a foodie that likes good food, don't waste your time. Burger King down the street is much better quality and price then old Tom's. (Not saying much, and no I don't work for BK lol) read more

Great staff, great food will be coming back for sure. Their special of the day was hot beef... makes my mouth water.
