We were looking for a place to watch the USA World Cup match, and we were so happy to find this bar. They have lots of seats, and we picked a shared high-top, but moved to another one so we could have backs on our chairs--the server and bartender were very friendly and helpful. They also changed another TV to the match so we could watch on the larger screen. I was happy they had a beer from Sturgis Brewery, as it's my new favorite brewery. We almost didn't walk all the way in, but we are glad we did! The interior gives off more of a bar/diner vibe, but the food is EXCELLENT! We ordered the breaded mushrooms to start. They were lightly breaded and perfectly crisp. For entrees we shared boneless wings (again lightly breaded) and chicken fried steak. Stumbled upon this place while on a business trip, because Mad Mary's was closed for maintenance. Well I'm kinda glad they were! Had lunch here twice and cannot say enough good things about the food and service. Both were excellent. Today I had the Reuben sandwich. The rye bread was toasted perfectly and the dressing was very good. Just the right combination of sauerkraut and corned beef. Last week I had chicken strips with a spicy bourbon sauce. That sauce was fabulous. My husband had the Hot Beef last week and the French dip sandwich this week. He said both were delicious. The service was quick and accommodating. The place has potential, the beer is cold and priced ok, the wings are good, but they seem to be afraid to add any with much spice, when will they learn that more heat will cause you to drink more! We have lived in SD for over 13 years (coming from TX y'all!) We have tried so many chicken fried steaks up here and our disappointment was endless! We had a wrestling match to attend in Pierre and so trying something new was in order. The hubby found this place and saw a picture of the chicken fry and decided to give it a shot. We were so pleasantly surprised at how amazingly good it was!!! My husband had two bites and told the waitress to bring him another! It had been too long since we ate a REAL chicken fried steak! The waitress was phenomenal as well! We had our two little guys with us and she was all about the service for them and us! Completely impressed with your establishment, service, and staff! The Longbranch's food is just OK... but it is extremely overpriced for what you get. The salad bar is rediculous. It was 10.99 for a basic, simple little salad bar... it didn't even have any meat on it (see my photo on yelp)! Chops has an amazing salad bar and I can get an awesome salad for usually around 6 bucks. It seems like the Longbranch just makes things directly off the food truck and doesn't really have any of their own recipes. I will have to say, their liver and onions is great, but again, over priced for what you get. Use the back door if you are only coming here to eat, if you are coming for the bar, then use either door. Otherwise if you use the front door, you have to walk through the bar and is sometimes awkward. read more

I tried to like you Longbranch, I really did! I had one good dinner there when I first moved to town and the rest has been downhill. And as they do in baseball and the criminal justice system, I give you three strikes and then you are out. The second time I had the chance to dine at your establishment, my chicken fingers were not cooked all the way through. Your waitress was shocked but not as shocked as she should have been and told us that it wasn't the first time she had to have them recook the chicken fingers order. I waited patiently for my order to come back out and I didn't have to wait too long, thank you for that. But when my plate was placed in front of me, the chicken had a sauce on it that it didn't before. I was told it was orange sauce, "like they use on the Chinese food". Well, I took a bite and didn't really like it, but I was hungry so I wiped off most of the sauce I could and just ate it. Luckily they had taken my order off the bill so we didn't have to pay for that fiasco. Strike one. A few months go by and we decide to try it again. I had made the mistake of not going to the restroom before we left the house and I needed to go at the restaurant. I was not aware of where they were and asked my fiance to point them out to me when we went in. It turns out they are very near the place where the servers greet you to show you to your table. The server greets us, my fiance pointed out the restroom, said you go and I'll meet you at the table. Apparently he said it too gruffly for the wait staff so they made a joke about him telling me to go to the restroom. We laugh together and think, yeah, that's not too funny and not what he meant but we'll let it pass. So I come out and find my seat and the waitress returns to take our order and she still hasn't let it drop. She has to make a joke again and make it seem as if my fiance is some sort of caveman chauvinist pig that tells me what to do. Which he is definitely not, not in the least. So needless to say we did not have a good time that night either. Strike two. The last time we went to the Longbranch, and the last time we will go to the Longbranch we checked out the specials on the board. There was what sounded like a delicious sandwich that I has everything on there that I love. We put our order in and wait anxiously for the order to arrive. My sandwich looks so yummy and I just can't wait and I bite into it... it has horseradish sauce on it. Now, I like flavor, I like a lot of flavor, I just can't handle spicy. My Japanese friend says I have a cat's tongue. Anyway, again I'm very hungry, as most of us are when we go out to restaurants and so I just eat the innards of the sandwich and leave the bread and sauce alone. I think that if you have something spicy that people might not be able to handle as an ingredient to something you are serving, you should probably mention it either on the board where it's advertised or have your wait staff mention it when the patron is ordering. Strike three. Sorry Longbranch, our restaurant money is going to go somewhere else from now on. Don't know why my review is filtered, real experiences were had and real money was spent. This is a tough one to rate. To get to the "restaurant" you have to walk through the game room and bar. So if it is a bar that happens to serve food, I'd give it three stars. If it is a restaurant however, I'd give it one star. I have eaten there twice, both times in the fall after a day of pheasant hunting. They've got some good signange and advertising that draws in the out-of-towners there for "Rooster Rush". The food is mediocre, but edible, and the service is subpar. I ordered a Pepsi and my father-in-law who was in Pierre hunting with me ordered a water with lemon. His had a red straw, and mine had blue. When the waitress took our glasses for refills, I had Pepsi with a lemon in it and a red straw, and his water had a blue straw. Our waitress was so bad that we actually found it comical. read more

We were just trying to figure out where the best place to sit would be. And then refused to serve us. We overheard her speaking poorly about our group. Stopped in for wing night while in town. Had the honey mustard wings and they were awesome. I sat up at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere Mel had created behind the bar. I liked this place the first few times I went there we always go down into the basement. The past 3 times I have been there with my friends the music was LAME! Drinks were decently priced but for the music they played it really wasn't worth it!!! Bartender in the basement rocks!!! Still don't stay very long because the music just sucks. Need to hire a person thats cool to pick the music. Everyone I've talked to says the same thing. I mean c'mon they were playing stuff from 2000 not even good music from 2000.
