This is a typical diner with an extensive menu and moderate prices. The food is very good and the staff is eager to please. Unlike other diners, they have a variety of tables to allow for singles, couples and any size group -- they even have a small separate dining area that is closed off for the rest of the restaurant. We usually have a group of 5 to 7 and like a large round table to facilitate talking with one another. You won't be rushed and hot coffee always flows ... long after the meal is over. read more

Ok. Their coffee is un-drinkable. Their ice tea is the fake concentrate kind out of a gun. They do offer real maple syrup, which we told the owner to make available and he listened to us so. thank you. The food comes out fast and is good, not great. The waitstaff seems hurried and does not engage in their patrons but they seem attentive. The place is clean but not very stylish. Lots of garish chrome and mint Julep walls, fluorescent lighting which does make your meal or you look good. I wish I could redecorate this place like an old New England roadhouse. Yummy diner! One of the best chicken souvlaki I have had. Service when I was there recently could have been a bit better as our glasses were dry and we never saw our waitress after our food was delivered. I blame that on being 11 AM on a weekday....they were taking a breath before lunch. Just the same they would have gotten 5 stars if the wait staff got off their phones. they are in a major decline. years ago the food was good, inexpensive and the attitude was always more than helpful and friendly.. We just had our last meal there, we won't be going back . The food was soso and the price outrageous - $20.75 for a small piece of fish , 5 scallops the size of a dime (which were ultimately thrown away as my husband said they were bad tasting) and two shrimps. They had such attitude when we complained and talked over me the whole time. they could care less. so we care less too and won't return . we will recommend to everyone DO NOT GO THERE - there are so many other choices in fairfield for your money. read more

This place wasn't too bad overall. It was clean, the food was decent, and the service was good. But they had one flaw that was so unusual and inexcusable that it drags them down to 2 stars: they refused to substitute ingredients. Due to an allergy, we wanted mushrooms on our burger instead of onions, but they said no. They took off the onions but we still had to pay full price. We could tell the decision was coming from the management cause the waiter was visibly guilt ridden, he had clearly been told to do this and he knew it was wrong. We tipped him well but we'll never go back. This is the only restaurant I've ever been to with this issue. read more

Good food fast! They have a typical diner lay out and serve until 12pm, which is amazing if you are craving a late night snack. They make almost anything that you could imagine, from eggs to philly cheese steaks to smoothies. Nice staff and the place always seems to have people in it, no matter what time of day. A lot of Fairfield University students go here to grab breakfast because it is inexpensive and good. I usually order their short stack of pancakes for breakfast-which is large, despite the name-and they will put anything in them! Eggs are also good and everything is made to order. read more

We tried this place on a recent Sunday morning. It was about 10:00am so I expected to wait but we were seated right away. The place is very clean, low noise and looked like locals were eating there. I had a western omelet with real hash browns and turkey bacon. All was delicious My wife had a couple of eggs, toast and turkey bacon. Again, very good. I used to really like this place but it's gone down hill really fast this year. The last time I went (which will be my final time there) it was a weekday mid morning so I expected Circle Diner used to be packed as usual. Instead it was almost deserted - there were only two other parties. The service was mediocre by creepy wait staff who loudly talked with each other about their off-color personal lives. They're destined for the Jerry Springer show some day. Our glasses tasted like soap. My food was bland and overcooked, tho my friend rated his as 'just OK'. I ordered a western omelette that came out not only dry and lacking flavor but it wasn't an actual omelette!! It was egg put in a blender or something. There were no actual pieces of ham, peppers or onions, etc. The omelette was like ground into tiny pieces then over cooked. Yikes. It was very disappointing. The host acted like he's so bored of this business. Seems typical of a fast cash businesses. They lose sight of flavor and quality over quantity. I won't go there again. NOPE. I'm almost certain that 100% of their items are prepackaged and/or frozen. They listed cream pies on their menu- after inquiring, the waitress said that IF they even have cream pies, then it would be chocolate cream. Pies are a STAPLE in good diners. Also I tried my friend's strawberry milkshake- aka ice cream with strawberry Hershey's syrup. Not good. My bagel was of lame quality, and the prices are expensive compared to diners on the same level. This place pretends its kind of upscale, but it's really just terrible. read more

The experience I had here was terrible. My waitress had a really bad attitude and did not even give her name. When my wife was thinking of what to order, the waitress asked if we needed a few minutes then immediately asked my wife what she wanted... I understand she might've misunderstood but my wife clearly did not know what she wanted. Next, the menu is completely and utterly too confusing, there is no organization and there are no "meals" like IHOP or other diners in the area. For example, "The Lumberjack--Two pancakes, 2 eggs and bacon" there are no meals in such a fashion, which in turn makes more money for the establishment. It's honestly something that pushes away customers who want an easy, and simple experience to eat food. Now according to the food, the bacon I ordered was burnt, as was the toast. Ordered 2 scrambled eggs, didn't want the potatoes ($4.75) but asked for 2 slices of tomatoes instead. I was told that I would be charged FIFTY CENTS for 2 slices of tomatoes. I refused to pay the fifty cents (on principle) so I just got my eggs. FIFTY CENTS for 2 slices of tomatoes? Really? When I paid my bill, I gave Gus (Morning Manager) the fifty cents and told him that was the cost of losing a customer and the hundreds of other people I will tell. (ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE). He told me that on the $4.75 dish of 2 scrambled eggs, no meat, no potatoes...just 2 eggs, he made only fifty cents! Clearly, he thinks his customers are stupid. It is no wonder that at 12:15 in the afternoon (lunch hour), very, very few tables or booths had people. Now I know why! The waitresses are hard-boiled and definitely surly and the Central American busboy puts his hands in the ice bin to get ice water. TRULY DISGUSTING!! Best diner in town. Best service and decent menu. Only gave 4.5 stars because, well, it's a diner and not a true restaurant. A little weird that they won't pack your food for you. They hand you a paper bag and disposable container. Ate here tonight. Ordered the Oriental Chicken Salad and found 2 long black hairs in my salad. I got the manager and sent it back, he was very nice and said I could order something else. I ordered chicken tenders, which didn't come out until everyone I was with was already done eating. He then proceeded to charge me for the chicken tenders when I had to ask for them twice because they didn't come out in time. They're slow and unorganized and now I think a little dirty. Shame because the reviews are so good and that's why we chose this place. Never coming here again and won't refer it to anyone I know either. read more

My husband and I eat there all the time, because it is convenient, reasonable and the food is always good. Over the July 4th weekend, we had 30 out of town guests for a family reunion, and one night we had dinner in their private room. Let me preface this by saying that I was sure that the reviewers who spoke about the food being bad and the service worse were just being heavy handed. However, after having had one breakfast and one dinner there, I am not impressed. It seems that the issues with the service may be based upon when you go there. Our waitress during a Saturday morning was very good. The food was typical diner food--not bad but not something that stood out. The following Sunday night we went for dinner. Both food and service were horrible. The seater (not very warm) sat us in a booth and then disappeared. The busboy brought us glasses of water immediately. And then we didn't see our waitress for 15 minutes. She was off messing around in the backroom and the seater didn't bother to mention our presence. She was young and completely disinterested in service, as it appeared all but one of the waitress were. She finally took our order, brought one soup, forgot our drinks, and then brought our food. Then she disappeared again. We ate our overly salted, over-cooked, and heavily sauced dinners while the waiting staff wandered around like zombies, none helping any of their coworkers. After finishing, we waited another 15-20 minutes trying to get someone's attention to request our bill. The seater was too busy chatting up the local police officer. Then, our waitress decided to sit in an obscure booth with the seater, who couldn't possibly monitor the front door from her position. The waitress walked by several times and in spite of our clear desire to leave, she remained oblivious. Another waitress finally alerted her and she gave us the bill. Suddenly, as we were ready to pay the bill and fill in the space for the tip, she hovered over the cashiers counter like a puppy dog waiting for a treat. One word for the service: disinterested.
