However, it is also a museum of sorts. For starters, it is one of the only historic homes I've visited where majority of the framework, fisxtures, furnishings and finishing are the originals from when the home was constructed. It costs $10/person to view and you have free reign to walk about the entire house to see and learn about the different aspects of it. The house was deeded to a preservation society and there are volunteers in each room waiting to enlighten the visitors on the house's history. It was fully decorated for the Christmas season with lavish trees and ornaments everywhere. It was a lot, but very tasteful. If you're into history, decor, old homes or antiques, you should definitely stop here if you're in Abilene. Oh... they also have cookies!

For those of you reading the other reviews about it being hot in the summer because of no AC, THERE IS NOW AC! The reception hall and all the back rooms are fully air conditioned! If you want an easy wedding planning experience and a beautiful backdrop to marry the love of your life (that costs fractions of what it would at other venues), Sparrow Creek is the place to go! She was quick to answer questions and sent tons of helpful information and checklists which helped me every step of the way. The venue is absolutely stunning! We used The Grove for our ceremony, however there are different areas you can use and they're all beautiful. The reception barn is rustic and so gorgeous in itself you don't have to use a lot of decor. Need decor!? No problem, this place has a plethora of decor you have access to. Kalli has a list of vendors she recommends and they too, did not disappoint!! SCR is not only affordable, you get the entire weekend. We decorated the day before and it was so nice and took stress away to be able to get that completed and not rush the day of. We were able to spend the day of wedding just getting ready and I, just enjoyed spending the day with my daughter. If this venue isn't close to you they have you covered there as well. Less than 1/2 a mile is Wildcatter Ranch and we had a wonderful stay there. Another plus to this venue is there are 2 bridal suites. We were able to get ready and hang out in one and the other was a beautiful location for bridal pictures. We did not have to rush around and clean to take pictures.
