Hostess didn't seem to know about our reservation but seated us inside front table. We were served water and proceeded to sit for 30 minutes until someone asked us if we wanted a drink! We ordered cocktails. At 7:30 we were served our drinks, we ordered bread at this point. We were hungry and really wanted to order dinner, but the waitstaff ignored us. At no point did anyone come to our table. At 8 we finally flagged down a waiter and ordered more drinks and dinner entrees. Our dinner was uneventfully served around 9. I was so displeased with the lack of customer service and ignoring customers, several people who came in after us were served before us!! When they handed me the bill, I asked to be comped for the lack of customer service, when no one responded my daughter went to the counter to speak to the manager. They gave us a 20% discount on our tab, but...they added a 20% tip to our bill! Wait what??? Who adds their own tip to a bill??? The irony, I felt bad and left cash tip on the table! Cinnamon has always been a top choice of restaurants for me to eat at in the Hudson valley. I have been many times including when they had the location on rt. 9. I have recently moved out of the area and always look forward to going back and often pick Cinnamon. The service is always sweet and food always surprisingly delicious! At my most recent visit, we enjoyed our meal tremendously, they were able to accommodate a simple request which may have seemed impossible on a Saturday evening. We ordered 2 entrees; Chicken Tikka Masala and Goan Fish Curry (i had them exchange for shrimp), goat cheese naan, dessert and a bottle of wine. I was dining with my daughter whom I now do not live near. My experience was completely changed when we were asked to leave because there was a reservation waiting. At this point, I was not finished with my wine and I was enjoying conversation with my daughter. For me, although I am a Culinarian, believe experience is just as important, if not more important than the food. Although the owner asked as kindly as she could, my experience was completely overturned by that one comment. I went from feeling appreciated as a customer to being reminded that we are only there for them to make money. It may take me awhile to go back- as i said, I am from out of town and may think twice. read more

We rode down here while visiting Woodstock area only to find that the meal I was hoping to get all "wasn't available". The exotic and varied menu on their website was not available to order, and what was available was no different than any other Indian restaurant - we came here even knowing it was over priced because it was supposed to be good, because we wanted something different than the typical. The place was packed so I'm sure the food was good, but really, I wouldn't have driven there in the first place. How hard is it to update your menu, or let people know what you advertise isn't available all of the time and that it is a 'sample' menu? It's a two star review, but I'll give the extra because I'm sure the food was good. It was slammed two days in a row, the first I had called to get a reservation and we didn't go because the only spot available was so late... meh, definitely won't go back.... read more

I came here with my husband last night and we both were so impressed. We have tried numerous Indian restaurants on Long Island, where we live, and this tops most if not all of them! The goat cheese naan was truly the best naan we have ever had. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. We ordered appetizers too, but can't remember what they were called. Delicious none the less! My wife loves chicken korma and unfortunately red hook curry house was closed for vacation so I thought I would order it from this place. I have eaten here before at the buffet and wasn't too bad so I though it would be good. It was far from good. Cost like $24 and was horrible compared to red hook curry house and $5-6 more expensive. Much better as an eat in option however the seating is at times cramped. In a pinch we order takeout but invariably the rice that comes along with order is barely warm. Popped into Cinnamon for lunch last weekend and we had a great experience. The food was extremely zesty and fresh. We ordered samosa, garlic naan, cauliflower, danzi bahaji, and chana gobi. The samosa were cut in half and were served salad-style, with samosa ingredients accompanying them, kind of like deconstructed samosa. Everything stood out but the way the cauliflower was prepared was exceptional. They almost tasted like fried chicken, simply amazing! The food was excellent. However, the service was VERY SLOW at every step - WAY TOO SLOW. It ended up being a 3 hour meal. That would have been OK if they stopped by and asked if we wanted more drinks. Our glasses were empty for LONG stretches. This is the best Indian restaurant that I have been to. Everything tastes delicious and wonderful. Every time I visit Rhinebeck I visit this restaurant, sometimes I come to Rhinebeck specially for it. The staff is friendly, polite, and attentive. For example last year, I went there with my significant other to celebrate his birthday. When talking to our server we said it was a wonderful birthday dinner. A few minutes later after we ordered our dessert, the staff came with a small birthday sorbet for my boyfriend, it was touching. This food is delicious and the staff is professional. Vegetable Samosas, Tandoori plate and spicy calamari were our appetizers and we shared Tandoori Chicken and Lamb Phaal entrees. Just an amazing array of spice, heat, sweet. I love Cinnamon and have been going to their location outside of town on Rt 9 for years. They have just opened their new location right in the middle of Rhinebeck! The menu is a little more streamlined, but it's the same great food as before, and the new decor is very cool. I'm excited to see how they settle in to their new home! read more

The best ethnic food in Rhinebeck. Now that they have grown into their new space, all those nay-sayers who gave 1 star review (for having to wait on line the first night they opened...really?) should try going back and comment on the food which is much different and better than what was offered at their old location on Rt 9 south of the village. As good, if not better, as the Rhinebeck hotspots Bistro, Market St, and Terrapin. And to top it off, a real 8 oz pour on the wine too. I'd go there more often but they are always packed. Recommend The Tandoori Meat Platter, Andra Chile Chicken, Tamarind or Coconut Rice, Peshawari Naan, Raita, Mango Chutney and Saag Paneer. Plenty of food (and booze) for 2 of us and we walked out with change from a $100. Thanks....can't do that at our other favorite spots. read more

I would like this restaurant to get its act together and succeed, but so far, our visits -- two attempted, and one completed -- have led to frustration and dissatisfaction. The first time we went, we waited in the cold entryway, not being acknowledged at all for a good ten minutes until the owner/hostess came over. She said the kitchen was backlogged with orders and could not handle any more, even though there were a number of empty tables. This was the day after they opened at the new location, so we gave them a pass. The second time we went, we were ushered to the adjacent dining room. Service was neglectful and spotty, and the portions for the food were small for the price. Our appetizer -- of four tiny pieces of lamb -- was forgettable. The shrimp main course I had was okay, but certainly not worth the $22 price, and the garlic nan we ordered was dry and had no discernible garlic flavor. The room itself was nicely decorated though, except for the bare cement floor which gave the room a cold feel. Our server seemed harried throughout and didn't return to check on us after we received our mains, nor did he clear the dishes when we finished. The bill of $80 left us feeling annoyed. The last time we went, we called ahead, and the voice recording mentioned a lunch buffet. The number we called came from Cinnamon's new web site (listing its new location), so we relied on it. We arrived at 11:45 to an empty restaurant. No buffet. No explanation for why the voice message mentions a buffet. Then we got the menus, and it was not even a separate lunch menu but the usual dinner menu. Unacceptable. We left, and I suggested to the waiter than maybe someone should change the phone message, for it would have saved us a trip. We gave it one more shot to try the dinner buffet. At $20 per person, it was way overpriced for the poor quality. I tried the fish curry, and it was obviously cheap, previously frozen tilapia or similar low-quality fish that had gone bad. It had a really funky texture and smelled terrible. I could not eat it. That was the final chance we will give it. Guess we just have to hope that a better restaurant takes over the prime real estate. When Cinnamon was at the old location, I liked it much more, but it was never great, just fair to good, but now that they're in a much more visible location, the food quality has gone down as the prices have gone up. It's sad that this area is such an ethnic cuisine wasteland that this type of sub-par cuisine is lauded. I am also skeptical that of only three reviews (at present, all five-star) two of them are written from photo-less reviewers identified only as "E.O" and "Mrs. O" who have a whopping four reviews total and seven reviews total, respectively. Food was AMAZING like always. We had 2 entrees, RAJASTHAN MURGHI and NAVARATHNA KORMA... both so flavorful and excellent. We had Plain Naan and Peshawari Naan.... both done to perfection! The only reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is that the service was disjointed for lack of a better word. They must separate duties and so one server leaves, another delivers, another cleans up. We never did get more rice or water. So no one checked mid meal for missing or extra items you just had to grab whoever came close and they would go looking for another person to help you. It is a very busy place and they were trying to get people in, handle takeout orders, and service tables. The servers were all practically running and doing an awesome job, just with the number of tables now with outside seating. takeout, etc, they have exceeded the max they can handle. To be fair, I got the impression that they were still working out their workflow, or perhaps down a person, but in any event it seemed sortable-out. But oh, the food... For apps we got the lasuni gobi, because I can never resist that when it's on a menu. Delicious, crispy, lots of umami, just like it should be. Also palak chaat, which was stupendously delicious. Sort of like bhel puri, but different. Just as good, if not better. For mains, I got navarathna korma, which is probably my favorite Indian dish. This was easily the most delicious one I've ever tasted. Korma can be pretty heavy, but this was somehow light (okay, light-ish, it's still korma) without losing any flavor or texture. Others with me got goan fish curry and some kind of lamb. I didn't taste them, but my dinner mates seemed rather happy. This really was some excellent Indian food, and we'll definitely go back. This is our favorite Indian restaurant by far. We came last year and found this sweet spot by surprise and we continue to be amazed by the food. Everyone must get the calamari. It's the kind that doesn't need to be dipped in sauce because it's already dipped in delicious flavors. It's nice and crispy and what's unique about it is that it comes with sautéed onions and peppers. It's the best we've had. The chicken Tikka is rich along with the goat cheese naan. My husband & I both love Cinnamon. The room is lovely with a modern design and the service is always pleasant and attentive. We LOVE the Palak Chat appetizer and get it every time and it's always a perfect start to our meal. The cocktail (forgot the name) but has Hendrick's Gin, rosewater & cardamom is really nice. We've ordered off the menu and have also done the Sunday night buffet. Both options are excellent but my favorite dish is the spicy Shrimp Mapas. We always take a couple of Masala Dosa to go for breakfast or lunch the next day. We drive about 30 minutes to get to Cinnamon and it's always worth it.
