Seated quickly, great atmosphere and decor. Chips and salsa automatically and complimentary, which is also awesome. We got the queso which was enjoyable. Service was quick, servers were kind and attentive. I got the number 9 chicken combo which came with a chalupa and a soft shell fajita taco with guac on the side. We stopped in here while passing through town, and it was a pleasant surprise. I had the beef fajitas, which were excellent. My kids had the children's tacos, which they loved. My husband's only complaint was that his dish was overly spicy, but he attributes that to his choosing the wrong sauce. All in all, we were very happy and we'll come back. read more

I'm diggin' it. Gainesville has been really lacking in the Mexican food department (no, Las Margaritas is NOT good) so this has been a godsend. Although, my thighs and wallet would disagree. They have a good assortment of options, and on weekdays (I think 4-7) you can get free queso, beans and salsa from the cart near the bar. Chuys has the best tortilla chips I have ever had! The drinks were cold and tasty but very pricey. Staff was attentive and the place is really well put together, very fun decor. Craved Mexican today so we went here for our anniversary lunch. Got seated promptly. Waiter was nice. Price was total $29 for our food including a margarita (con here-it was very weak) they have a buffet nacho/chips and dip bar which was nice. I got the barrier with sirloin, cheese and beans. I got the chile rice instead of Mexican rice, had a nice kick to it and the jalapeño sauce. My husband wanted the ACP but they didn't offer it there. Hands down the best mexican/tex-mex/whatever you want to call it food I've ever had. EVERY single thing that touches your plate is homemade and fresh. Nothing comes out of a box or a can and you can tell by how flavorful everything is. I've been to this location two or three times and I can't think of one negative thing to say. The salsa is fresh made and is always good. Even the chips aren't your normal thick and stale tortilla chips. The tortillas are made fresh and that for sure makes a difference in all the dishes they serve. All of the sauces they make are great and are made fresh every day. The major drawback for me was a lacking menu at Chuy's that could have some more options on it. The service was excellent, and the food was prepared rapidly. My Chicken enchiladas with Boom Boom sauce were good, but the sauce absolutely covered the plate, which was unfortunate. But that was partially my mistake for not getting it on the side. Chuy's has good food but our service was really bad. It took 10 minutes just for our server to come over to us and 15 more minutes to get drinks. We got chips and salsa first thing but then we ordered guacamole and queso, it took a while but finally got our guacamole, but we didn't get our queso until about 20 minutes after that! Then we got our food and it was good but took so long. My friend asked for napkins 3 times and our sever only gave us 3 napkins! I don't like giving bad reviews but it wasn't that great. read more

Not really real TexMex, but not bad for GvilleMex, though there others just as bad. No draft beer, not even a cold glass. Happy hour consisted of cold beans, oily meat, and a thin cheese mixture. The chile rellenos were chicken fried and served cold, beans on the plate were pasty with no cheese -- though the Mex rice was pretty good. Taco shells were mushy and the enchiladas were well sauced -- so hard to tell what they were. The best thing about Chuy's was the service, our server "Jose" did his very best, so hope things improve for his sake. They put a lot of money into their remodel and it looks really "pretty" outside. Had a great late lunch today. Service was excellent. I had the Chuychanga. It's a chicken chimichanga which comes topped with sour cream and served with rice and beans as well as a small amount of lettuce, diced onion and tomatoes, and sliced chilis. It comes with your choice of sauce. I'm addicted to the creamy jalapeno sauce so I had that. The meal was pipping hot and seasoned just great. The chips and salsa served with each meal were both great. Their chips are light, thin, and crisp. The salsa made fresh. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that despite great food at each of our many visits, unlike this trip, during other visits service has been inconsistent. We'll still be going back after all the creamy jalapeno dip/dressing is more addicting than you think. read more
