Some coworkers had a team lunch here last week so I decided to check out what the hype was all about. I came around 11:30AM and got seated immediately. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the themed artwork. The vibrant colors just pop out at you and you really feel like you're somewhere else and not in Cary anymore. Soon after I sat down, a waitress came by and brought me my complementary chips and salsa. The chips were a lot thinner than I was used to. They were seasoned well and had good flavor. Warning: the Salsa Fresca is definitely spicy. It's the Serrano peppers. My server came by later with a white sauce of some sort which I used to dip with every other chip to alleviate some of that intense heat. I ordered the Baja Tacos with grilled shrimp, which was amazing. The grilled shrimp was cooked to perfection and was seasoned well. The red cabbage added a nice crunch to it. The hand made tortillas were fresh and absorbed the juices and flavor of the shrimp. The rice and beans were also good but the highlight has to be the Baja Tacos. I'll definitely have to stop by for dinner sometime in the future since a dinner service especially with a big crowd is a true test to any restaurant. read more

Went here for the first time a few weeks ago with my husband. We've been waiting for them to open and wanted to finally check this place out. The place is casual, fun and I think it's cool you can see them making the tortillas. The chips are light, salty, and addicting (reminds me of Chipotle's chips) and I liked the salsa. I'm a vegetarian, and I've found that most places put chicken stock/powder in their rice and beans, but both types of beans and the rice were vegetarian here. I chose the more spicy option and they accidentally gave me both (I liked the spicier beans), but they were both great. The waitress was friendly and very attentive. Our food was taking a while, and without even having to say anything she told us sorry and that the back was having a problem. She continued to check on us while we waited, and eventually Steve (manager) even stopped by to tell us that they are sorry and it should be out soon. Once we got our food, he continued to check on us. Both our waitress and Steve helped make our experience a great one even though we had to wait on our food. I got the vegetarian combo which came with a cheese chile relleno with ranchero sauce & veggie enchilada, rolled in a homemade blue corn tortilla and topped with ranchero sauce. Unfortunately, I found out after the fact that the rellano is battered and fried in the same oil as meat. However, Steve told me I could ask for it to be grilled the next time to keep it truly vegetarian (will also make it healthier :p ). Both my husband and I enjoyed eating there and plan to go back. I will say their unlimited nacho bar is a steal. Aside from that, I wasn't blown away. To me, chipotle is the best way to go when it comes to Mexican food. A lot of Mexican restaurants make their food pretty greasy and this place was no different. Some of the chips tasted stale and a lot of their dishes were oily and soggy. My chalupa was off their "healthy" menu but it definitely didn't taste like it lol I also got to try their shrimp tacos. It was pretty flavorful but lacked that wow factor. Saw this place couple weeks ago on my way. My BF likes the one in North Hills and wants to try this. So we came here for our first meal after a one week trip. For me, this place worth 3 stars: 4 for decoration and 2 for food. First, I like the decoration inside. Very interesting, very colorful. You can see people making tortillas through the window. Very big bar area! I would give them four star for this. Second, their chips and ranch dip are good. Chips are served WARM! I like that. They are very thin and crispy. The waitress gave us an extra ranch dip which had minced jalapeño inside. If you dip a lot of it, it could be spicy. But it's good. Third, I don't really enjoy the food here. We asked the waitress for suggestion. I ordered Chicken Boom Boom, which had a very very thick soft tortilla and not much chicken inside. After my first bite, I was wondering why there's no chicken inside! The tortilla is so thick that I can't even feel the texture of chicken. I don't like this style. It also had a very thick layer of cream and cheese on top. I don't like cheese either. So I tried my bf's taco, Chiluba and something (combination 6). It was ok. The Chiluba and taco are fine. The last one was all cheese. Even my BF who likes cheese could not handle it! The food here kind of disappointed us. We have a lot better options for Mexican food around. I wasn't blown away but it wasn't bad, particularly for the price and convenience. Our waitress was super cool and she made a lot of great recommendations. The quality of the food was pretty good. I had a chimichanga and it did the job. Kids had tacos and they seemed to like them. The outdoor seating was a nice touch and the view of the sunset didn't hurt. You are going to have an issue here if you like alcohol. It's not that they don't have it but you will find an abundance of mass marketed beer or very sweet frozen drinks (which I am not a fan of). The quality of the latter is not good and it's pretty much straight sugar and food coloring with a hint of something else. For a large group or a quick, convenient bite, this place will work. Don't take a client here or come to celebrate your anniversary though. :-) read more

Should not be called FINE Tex Mex by any stretch of the word. Inside sort of feels like a diner to be honest because of the red leather booths and chairs. My husband and I just moved here from Texas and Chuy's is hands down the best Tex-Mex we found in all of Texas! When we knew we were moving to North Carolina, we decided, just for kicks, to see if there were any Chuy's in the Raleigh area. And what to our wondering eyes should appear? Not one, but two Chuy's and we lifted up a cheer! We just had our first meal here tonight and the one in Cary did not disappoint. Never been to a Chuy's location before, apart from below failed attempt. It's Tex-Mex food. I don't think I know for sure what Tex-Mex means, you take Mexican food and make it less authentic and reduce the flavors? But the menu calls it authentic. Hmm, I am confused and will call it an oxymoron. The interior and ambiance was not really what I expected. I expected a more fun and lively ambiance. This location has a few different sections inside the restaurant you could say. We were put in the section that looks like a cross between a kindergarten and a mechanic shop. I say that because there are a lot of bright color objects on the walls, and hub caps in the ceiling and gas pumps and pictures of old American cars on the walls. AC was blasting in February, I didn't like that. The guacamole had lettuce in it. What? Why? Who puts lettuce in guacamole?! I have never seen it. If I want lettuce I will order a salad. The mojito was a big glass, but deceptive and full of ice. Looks like a good deal when you see it, but then not as you keep drinking. The complimentary chips and salsa are OK, I like that they make them thin style here, but the salsa was weird. Not mixed properly, lot of salt on this side of the bowl, lot of chili on that side of the bowl. It was chunky and watery at the same time. I didn't like it at first, but then it kind of grew on me. It didn't have much fresh cilantro taste to it though. Also they only gave us one salsa bowl for two people. This is not good if you want to avoid double dipping. You take one dip and end it! Seinfeld fans know what I'm talking about. I might come back to Chuy's again, but was a bit underwhelmed by my experience. Looks more nice from the outside than it is inside. read more

Chuy's is one of our go-to favorites. When we lived in Knightdale we went to the North Hills location and since we've moved to Holly Springs we go to the Cary location. The service is always great and the food is very consistent. The creamy jalapeño sauce is to die for and I typically pour it over everything! I always have leftovers and it's one of the very rare times I actually eat the food from my to-go box instead of throwing it out after sitting in the fridge a couple of days. Keep up the great work! I can't recommend Chuy's enough, especially for a chain restaurant! read more

I've been here three times now and overall I have been happy. Service has always been great with friendly, attentive waiters/waitresses/hostess staff and the chips are kept filled which is good and bad because we keep eating them. I love how light and crispy they are despite the fact the break off some in the chunky salsa and guacamole. The food here is different from the standard Mexican food in most places. I like that you can choose from a variety of sauces, the jalapeño ranch being my favorite. They also never blink at substitutions or changes we wanted. I had cheese chille rellenos today. It was heavily breaded which I don't like but it was crispy. I took off most of the breading and ate the gooey cheesy love inside. Hubby and daughter had chicken and steak fajitas for two which could have fed all of us easily. We asked for extra wrappers since there were just 3 but she quickly brought four more fresh ones. Fajitas weren't sizzling like we expected but were good. The chicken was liked better than the steak. I had a King's Punch which tho $9.50, was delicious. Restaurant is loud so be prepared. I had the chuychanga, filled with chicken and cheese. I enjoyed it and the creamy jalepenos sauce. For me this was 4 stars. I ordered a to go taco order, in my opinion is was not worth the $8 I paid for them. The very thin corn chips did not withstand the weight of the spicy salsa. It's hard to group share when your chip keeps crumbling on you. However the service NEEDS to dramatically improve. I was with a large group, the staff didn't think quickly on their feet to offer a spare table to accommodate more folks coming. Although the restaurant was almost full, the could have grabbed the small table first however I had to suggest it first. The staff just looked lost in handling a large crowd and being organized. Managers, train them better!! The wait for drinks and food was slow. Food came out at different times. One person's food never came till the very end, she ended up declining it since it was too late and everyone was just about done eating. Another persons food was ordered incorrectly. The checks... Staff took WAY too long to disperse checks to us that several folks had to leave so they ended up paying at the front instead. When they came out with all the checks at one time, half the folks already took care of it themselves hence leaving the staff with confused expressions. I think if the wait staff were faster at checking in on us after serving, it would reduce the confusion. Half of the 15 + people in my party stated it was ehh while the other half really liked the food, so I guess it depends on what you ordered and expect. This was my first experience at Chuy's and it was excellent! The interior is a bit different, but don't let that deter you. We started with the chips and I expected the standard chips and salsa. The chips were very tasty and the salsa was freshly made. I had the chicken tortilla soup which was just what I needed after dealing with a cold for a few days. I had the veggie enchilada for my entree with spicy pinto beans. In a word? Yummy!! Not sure why the reviews aren't higher! I will definitely be returning here!! read more

Well I have been in Durham for a year and a half now and I have always wanted to try this place. I will not ever go again. The food was ok, not a lot of flavor. What bothered me was the young lady making the tortilla would take periodic breaks and sit at the bottom of the table that she was making the tortilla and play with her phone while still wearing the same gloves she was making the tortillas with. Chuy's is definitely a must visit. Came on a Saturday to enjoy some drinks and football. Left with a good buzz and full stomach. Conveniently located next to Cinebowl so we got more drinks there afterwards. The chicken plautas were bomb; perfectly rolled tortillas with a creamy sauce on top. Portions were huge as they gave me a large plate to enjoyably struggle through. I was bothered by my fight with the abundance of flies in the restaurant but overall I was satisfied with my visit. Their quality of meats is pretty good and we have enjoyed their steak, chicken and shrimp. The serving size is very generous and the service is prompt. Hit or miss really. A lot depends on what you order and when you go... but management and staff doesn't really get the customer service thing. That said, great salsa, though usually a bit spicy. Great Hatch Chile Sauce. Good bean burritos. Decent salads, fajitas, etc. Avoid, like the plague, their appetizer sampler! This is nothing like another big chain's sampler. It's really pretty bad. Avoid going too early... too many screeching children. They should consider having a family section... but they don't. I think their queso dip is pretty disappointing. I'd avoid. We keep trying this place and are disappointed with the food each time. The servers are fantastic...upbeat, quick, etc. The drinks are good too. The problem is the meat is often dry and chewy. Not good. Got the fish tacos, was mostly flour tortilla with almost no fish. The "green" chili rice were blistering hot, beyond being edible. Do not order it. The chicken enchilada was mostly cheese, which would have been okay if we ordered a cheese enchilada. Great Tex Mex with a fun atmosphere. I really enjoyed my $5 margarita. You really can't beat that deal! I loved the decor and atmosphere at Chuy's, very kitschy and lots of color. I thought my combination dinner was good. The enchilada had a great sauce. I forget what the other part was called but it had all the traditional texmex flavors with great crunch. I lived in Texas for 5 years down in San Antonio and was suprised to find out that they had a Chuy's up here. Its a large restaurant chain serving up pretty tasty and decent tex-mex. Really fresh and handmade tortillas! This one in Cary is a large restaurant with fun festive decor and also a nice patio. Starting out with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are thin and crispy. The fresh salsa has a nice spice to it. They also have this creamy jalapeno sauce that is kind of like a spicy peppery ranch. We split the combo fajitas for two. Both the steak and chicken were well seasoned and the grilled veggies were tasty. The accompaniments are good, nothing great, but go well with the fajita meal - spanish rice, refried beans, guac, sour cream, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and shredded cheese. The flour tortillas are fluffy and freshly made. We'll definitely be back! read more
