This place is gross. The hostesses were confrontational when I asked to be seated at a booth with my daughter in a highchair. The manager came to speak to us after and was appropriately apologetic. Later I watched as staff congregated in an area near us and whispered in each other's ears. When my food was brought out the hostesses even came to congregate in this area. Having been in the food service industry, I know what this means and I did not eat my food. When my untouched food was sitting in front of me and we asked for the check, the waitress never asked if there was something wrong with my food and never offered me a box. Seriously? If you work in the customer service industry, and a customer is unhappy with their service, this does not give you the right to retaliate! If you think this is appropriate behavior, there is a good reason you're waiting tables for a living. Well, we've been here numerous times since it opened. The food is good (3 stars) but the service is either a hit or a miss...and more of a miss most of the time. Example: we ordered green chile rice and they brought out mexican rice. Never saw our waitress until after we ate 90% of our meal. I said something about the rice and she quickly said the kitchen had run out of green chile rice and was making some more. Would have been nice to know when the food was served instead of me having to ask. Also, don't tell me you're going to bring me more Diet Coke and never return. So, I take both cups and head to the bar for a refill and ask the bartender. In the process of me walking to the bar with 2 empty drinks, an employee ask if they could help me. I said 'no thank you' and proceeded to the bar. When at the bar that employee and our waitress were conversing about me and the fact that I was getting a refill and someone was lacking in their attention skills. Our waitress looked at me perplexed and didn't recognize me...I thought I had a bad memory. Any way, long story short she asked who our waitress was and I said YOU. By this time the bartender refilled my drinks, I tip her a dollar and my waitress said she would bring it out to the table....lol. I said 'It's ok, I got it' and walked away. One of the best texmex experiences I have ever had. Barely waited for a table on a busy Saturday night. Server was excellent. Other servers were also above expectations. I have had A LOT of salsa...this is hands down the best salsa I have ever had. House margs were delicious, not watered down and a fair price. Chicken Fajitas were some of the best I have had. I remember going to Chuy's in Austin for the first time with my cousins & absolutely loved it. The boom boom sauce was so flavorful especially on the enchiladas that we get it every time. Mexican is my fav! I was a little disappointed in my first experience here. We chose to sit outside, which is a nice option if the weather permits. Just past the seating area is a grassy field for kids to play on. The food on the other hand I was not impressed with. We went for a grand opening event hosted by mckeeman communications and they really pulled out the red carpet and moved a lot of people through there. The drinks were amazingly tasty for such a warm day and we sat on the patio with an umbrella, it was lovely. We tried the margarita on the rocks, frozen strawberry margarita, and an olive martini. We also tried a steak dish which had a kick, enchiladas, and chicken burritos. The chips were light and crunchy but where the 4th star is missing here is with the ridiculously salty salsa. Probably just a bad batch but come on, every good TexMex place needs a solid salsa. Good news is there was a trunk full of chips and salsas (literally) so I'm sure they'll be perfecting that recipe and serving it up in the masses soon. This is a wonderful restaurant for families. There are plenty of vegetarian options and the children had a variety of kid friendly meals. The portions are really generous and the food was very tasty. The restaurant can seat quite a large crowd because when we went there at lunchtime it was packed but we didn't have to wait to be seated. The sides were Delicious as well and our waiter was extremely courteous and helpful. The food arrived very quickly and was piping hot and made from scratch. Everything from the fun and lively atmosphere to the super light chips and salsa to the creamy jalapeño dressing is incredible! Went out with a Texan friend on a Monday evening for his birthday, along with several other friends. He was very excited that Chuy's was now nearby. We got seated immediately even with a table of 7 (6 p.m., so that's probably why). Service staff were all very gracious and friendly, from hostesses to servers. The only complaint I have is that they have a Chihuahua bar - with pictures of the little dogs everywhere...and yet dogs are not allowed on their outdoor patio. What's that about? The tortilla chips are really good - thin and crispy - a bit fragile for their excellent pico-style salsa, but they're so good, nobody cared. Have I mentioned the excellent salsa? Our server was very nice and attentive, and got annoyed with the kitchen when our birthday celebrant didn't get his food with the rest of us - she stayed on them until she got it though, and was very apologetic about his getting his food late. I was also impressed with the fact that when I asked my server for an accomodation (to have my chili rellenos roasted instead of battered and fried), with boom boom sauce on the side, she immediately went to ask the kitchen, and they accomodated me. They looked weird, but they were very tasty. :) The sopapillas were also really good - light and fluffy, and not at all greasy like some places. All in all, aside from the awesome fresh salsa and chips, the food was pretty similar in flavor to most "better" Mexican chains (don't tell my Texas friends I said that!), but the friendliness of the staff was above and beyond, and the atmosphere was fun (outside of the mother of a screaming child incident, but we won't hold that against the restaurant). Oh, and since they're relatively new, it seems they're still getting their tables mixed up. Sit at table 44 - we got offered a whole lot of stuff that we didn't order.
