We ordered two taco platters, loaded with an incredible lineup: Cachete -- Pork Cheek Barbacoa -- Braised Beef Carnitas -- Pork Buche -- Pork Stomach Chorizo -- Mexican Sausage Lengua -- Beef Tongue Both platters came with rice and beans, and everything was packed with authentic flavor. The lengua was exactly what I was looking for--tender, flavorful, and absolutely worth the search. The cachete and barbacoa were equally impressive, while the carnitas, buche, and chorizo rounded out an outstanding taco lineup. And of course, a large horchata to complete the experience. Esmeralda Grill delivers the kind of Mexican food that makes you stop and appreciate every bite. Authentic flavors, generous portions, and a menu that gives you plenty of reasons to come back. Definitely one of the best Mexican joints in Cary--and easily my favorite find in town. 5 stars without hesitation.

I usually rotate between the tacos, enchiladas, and molcajetes, and while the tacos themselves are just okay, the overall experience is solid. The fresh chips are easily some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant (warm and crisp). Add queso to those chips and it really seals the deal. They more than make up for the tacos being a bit underwhelming and are honestly reason enough to come back. This is a great neighborhood spot if you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and excellent chips and dips (biggest downside is no liquor aka no margaritas). Not every dish is a knockout, but the highlights keep it comfortably in 4-star territory.

I tried both dishes and found the chicken in the mole sauce was more tender than the acp chicken. We ordered a side of queso and it came in a very small container. Would not do that again . There were plenty of tortillas to go around. I was disappointed that the acp had so little cheese in it. The chicken was kind of tough and dry due to lack of sauce. The order fed 4 adults and one child and there was leftovers....only the acp, all the other items got eaten. Would not order the acp here again.

There were papers and junk everywhere even on the booths, I almost walked right back out. Unfortunately we gave it a second chance. I sat down and waited 30min and a waitress that didn't even speak came up to me. The workers were sitting down and eating their own food, which I don't know how they managed to do it. The worker behind us was watching a iPad with full volume moaning sounds. About 30 min later our waitress finally came back. While she was asking us for what we wanted she was watching a 1988 off brand version of aqua man. We luckily didn't find any cockroaches in our chips. And then I try my "Dr Pepper" which tasted like water with dye in it. Then sadly I walk into the bathroom and I think the last time that bathroom got cleaned was when that aqua man movie came out. I look to the ground and there was countless roaches and bugs. One second i was peeing and the next i was running. I go back to the table and waited like usual for our food. I got the four enchiladas and couldn't even finish a full one because of how bad they tasted. So I started playing with my food to keep me entertained. The crazy part is who knows what was in them. My friend got the acp and saying he didn't like his food is an understatement and he said the A.C.P tasted like S.H.I.T. We only stayed about 5 min after we got our "food". Luckily we didn't find any roaches in our food but I don't think even they would eat that food. After we left we went to chick fil a but el rio ruined our appetite and later that night we had food poisoning. 1 stars is an overstatement.

"Strip mall Mexican on NC-55"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday. This is next to Planet Fitness in a giant strip mall-- it's not especially noticeable unless you come up close. The place had tables on either side and was bright. The menu was along the wall, but not descriptive-- no prices listed but just categories of food (e.g., "torta", "quesadilla", "burrito" and the like). A very young person was at the register too just patiently waiting for us to order. I got a barbacoa torta and my dining partner got a chicken burrito and a Jamaica drink. We sat outside since it was a beautiful day (also, there was a kid in the restaurant playing video games and coughing a ton)-- there were a few tables in the shade, thankfully. They brought our food out in maybe 10 minutes or so. Sadly, I would say my torta was disappointing. The barbacoa was not very saucy or flavorful. There was a block of cheese in the middle, and I don't remember there being many jalapenos. I added some salsa to try to give it more flavor. In contrast, my dining partner LOVED her chicken burrito, saying it was even better than what she gets at Taqueria Vaquita. Her drink was also really good-- sweet but not too sweet. Price was so-so... for just the two of us, it was $42 with tax and tip. Certainly not "cheap" Mexican, but not crazy. I want to give it 3 stars, but given my dining partner really liked her burrito, I'll go to a 4.
