The food was incredibly good tex-mex. While my guacamole was brown, the rest of my meal was a seriously tasty experience. The beans were definitely better than most, the green chile rice has that extra depth of flavor, and the fajitas were executed quite well. Our service was good, though we did feel as though the server could have come by a bit more often. The atmosphere is the real star of the show, with kitschy photos hanging from the wall and themed roomes. All in all, I'd recommend this for a great weeknight dinner! read more

Tex-Mex it is, and that's for sure. Almost the best of both countries. The trouble is, I couldn't figure out which country dropped the ball and kept it from being a 5 star rating. It couldn't have been the good ol USA, could it? You be the judge, and let me know. The restaurant is pretty cool inside. There's all kinds of stuff plastered or hung throughout. But your gander better be quick because your server will be on you before you can say "let's eat amigo"! Excellent service is at this establishment. Friendly as can be. The server will keep the conversation short, though. She has more tables to be excellent at. I found the chips and salsa to be adequately satisfying. Combined with a cold beer, it set the tone for what was to come. I'd hoped that my meal would be special and it didn't disappoint. I chose the steak burrito with Hatch Chili's on top. Those chili's are something else! Very flavorful. They made the meal. Here's the rub. The burrito was served with uninspiring rice and beans. Someone wasn't paying attention during side dishes 101. We stopped at Chuy's after a long day of travel. The restaurant was not busy. We were sat in a section with one other table. 2 servers went to that table, looked at us and walked away. My husband and I both went to the restroom, at least 4 staff, including the 2 servers we saw, were on their phones. We waited 20 minutes without anyone coming to our table, so we got up and left. I've been to several Chuy's locations before, but this is the first time I've been to the one in Amarillo. I ordered a Chuy's top shelf margarita and a Texas 'Tini. Both of these were very good! It's clear the bartender knew what she was doing. The enchiladas were served quickly, so no complaint there. The sauce was very spicy (as expected) but did not seem to be as flavorful as I'd had it elsewhere before. On the whole, dinner was good. read more

Great location, atmosphere, chips & menu choices. I asked to taste small sample of their tortilla soup. I received 1 small bite of chicken in 2 tablespoon of broth at room temperature. I asked waiter if I order the soup would it be served hot? Waiter said yes. Hubby & I ordered some food. Food arrived & hubbies enchiladas arrived hot. My soup was at best room temperature. I asked waiter to take it back and heat it up then bring me the hot soup. The manager arrives instead and as he "passes by our table," says that he removed the soup from our bill. Very good food! We stopped here on our way through to Colorado. The bartender was such a sweetheart, positive attitude, super friendly- she made our meal enjoyable. OMG, Thank You Chuy's. Location is right off the highway, it was a slow Thursday but I was scared I didn't see many cars. Its a seat yourself. The enviroment is cute, festive, lots of cool portraits. Our waiter, Matt, was the BOMB! We were first timers so he brought a rainbow plate that was a sample of all their sauces. All of them were so good, I could have licked the plate. The salsa was so flavorful. I got the steak burrito and my child got enchiladas. Everything is Fresh and packed with Flavor. Matt was so tentative!! I will be back time and time again. I was down in D/FW to get a checkup & decided on the way there that I wanted TexMex. There are almost as many Mexican food restaurants in D/FW as there fireflies to chase on a central Indiana summers night. But Chuy's has become my favorite. Wonderful staff, delicious food & I promise you won't walk out of there hungry. Next time I'm going to ignore my son's request to start off with chips & queso. Not because it's bad, it's delicious, but my wife, son & I can't finish it when the food comes out. Then it's a struggle to finish my meal. My expanding waistline reminds me not to take finishing my plate as a challenge. The decor is warm & casual although I would like to know if their paintings, at some locations, were drawn by family of the original owners or bought. Love them but curious just the same. What a disappointment. After driving for 7 hours from Denver and hoping to eat some real Texas food again, this is not what we are used to in Austin! The food was cold, the order was mixed up twice, the beans and rice tasted like they were made a week ago and they were cold. The lower rating puzzle me. To someone that loves Tex-Mex it better of the chains and very reasonably priced and the creamy jalapeños make everything better. Chips and Salsa that keeps coming, warm and salty chips the creamy jalapeños is by request only btw. In my opinion most TexMex is pretty easy but not all have figured it out. I think these guys have. I had to try out the new Chuy's. It opened up 2 days ago in Amarillo. I guess everybody else in town decided to try it out also, LOL. There was a 35 to 45 minute wait and for me it took a little over 45 minutes to finally get in. I don't totally understand that because as I looked around there were two or three tables empty most of the time that I was eating so I don't know if it was due to social distancing or what but even when I was standing inside the last 5 or 10 minutes waiting I could see empty table or two off to my left. I had the nicest waitress you could hope for. I was going to get a margarita until I found out they were over $10. I'm used to paying $3 to $4 at the Mexican places I go to in town. But I decided to get a mojito which was very good. It was $8.75. My daughter had given me two or three suggestions of what she like to order at the Austin location. I ended up ordering the chimichanga for $11.99. It came with beans and rice. Everything tasted good. The chicken inside the chimichanga with especially good. It was like rotisserie chicken, very moist and tender. The only problem I had was at one point when I took a bite that included some chimichanga and beans on the same forkfull I chomped down on something hard with no give to it. Then I realized there was a second piece of something. I removed it from my mouth and saw that it was something black that look like little rocks. Allowing for the possibility it might have been a filling that came out I felt all around the inside of my mouth but could find no sign of a broken tooth or missing fillings so it must have been a couple of stones that somehow ended up in the food. I did mention it to the manager, after I paid. I didn't want her to think I was trying to get comped something because that's not how I am. I told her I was just informing her so she would know, not to complain because I had had a very nice meal. She was super nice about it also and ended up giving me a coupon for a free queso the next time I come in. That will give me an excuse to come back to try something else next time. We chose this place because it was walking distance from the hotel we were staying at. Very cute place inside and the waitress and bartender were great. But the food was aweful. Plates definately do not look like the pictures presented. Upon delivery of our food, it was so dry, the refried beans were dark and stuck to our plates, as if the whole plate looked like it was re-warmed too much. I'm not sure what they use to warm plates before bringing them out to you, but this was way over done. My enchilada was so dry (over cooked) on the plate, I didn't even eat it. Total food bill was $134.00 for two people, who didn't eat everything on plate due to being so dried out. Very dissapointed, as I was really looking forward to some good food after a long day of driving. read more

I pulled into town last night after an 8-hour drive from San Marcos, where I was visiting my elderly parents (I live in Colorado). I'm a heart transplant recipient with a suppressed immune system and always choose to sit outside but it was too chilly to do so. Only one section of the restaurant was open (aside from the bar) and so I asked the hostess if they could maybe seat me in a closed section so that I wasn't near other diners. She checked with the server who was working that section and she agreed. The server, Jewel, was a delightful young woman who definitely didn't seem to mind keeping an eye on me and in fact told me she understood my situation. She was friendly, engaging, polite, professional and knowledgeable and made me feel welcome at a time when many people don't seem to care that the immunosuppressive drugs I must take take to keep my body from killing my heart also suppress my body's ability to generate antibodies from vaccines, making me very vulnerable. My paternal grandfather's name was also Jewel and we chatted about the connection. After driving away from parents with rapidly declining health and spending the day fighting traffic on the highway (with another full day ahead of me), Jewel created such a warm, calm and friendly atmosphere for me and it was very appreciated. The food is always great here! We love their queso and the jalapeño ranch dip they bring out with the chips and salsa. If you want fajitas, theirs is amazing, we even use their recipe at home! The tacos al carbon are cheaper than the fajitas and are practically the same, you just miss the sizzling plate and the work of putting them together. I'm a first timer at chuys. I have a short lunch break so thought let's try this place out. Got us in and seated pretty quick. I loved how all the waitress dressed up for Halloween. Especially our waitress! Don't remember her name but she dressed up like Waldo! She was so kind and attentive, even went the extra mile to provide a sample sauce plate to try. I had the steak burrito with beans and rice and my bf had combo nachos. Came out fairly quick but hot and fresh! The menu was right on, big as yo face burrito burritos was huge!! Smothered in hatch green chili sauce was the perfect amount of spice! The nachos looked good too. Very fresh and delicious definitely can't wait to checkout more menu items! read more

I don't even know where to start here. We tried to go on 3 different occasions. The first time we went, the hostesses were extremely rude. It was also a two hour wait when they had open tables. They told us they had reservations for graduation, but when we called earlier to make a reservation, we were told they didn't do reservations. We left. The second time the wait was an hour and a half. We called that time, but again, whoever answered the phone was rude. We didn't go. The third time we went at 5. They told us it would be a 30 minute wait. We said OK, and waited. 45 minutes later we asked how long, and the rude hostess told us it hadn't been 30 minutes yet and it would be another 10 minutes. So we waited a total of 55 minutes. We were seated and only waited about 7 minutes for a waitress. She was ok, not friendly at all. The queso was watered down and pretty small compared to what other places serve. We ordered our food. The Chuychanga is relatively small. The chicken was flavorless, although another person at my table said it was good. I had the Ranchero sauce, not much flavor. There was confusion on what they brought us. The runner didn't know if it was the steak burrito or the ground beef. My wife didn't get her food. I mentioned it and she said there was too much to carry and someone else would bring it. There were 8 people, and 5 were kids meals. When the waitress finally came back, I mentioned it again and she went to get it. All of us were done eating by that time. The steak in her burrito had good flavor. The tomatillo deluxe sauce was good. The entire time we were there we were wondering why we stayed, and we just wanted to leave.
