I was told about this restaurant by a friend. I have gone there several times and was really pleased with the staff and food. I would order the the 9" steak and cheese each time and pay a least $18 dollars. The meat was seasoned and plentiful. The other issue that I have is that you can't get lettuce and tomatoes on the sandwich. HUH????? However, after about the 4th time the subs really got light, not as full as before. I told the cashier that the my sub was not as full as before and they added more meat. She also stated, that the fullness was TO GET THE PEOPLE IN DOOR, and they can not keep filling the sandwiches up as before. However, the prices never changed. I rode around the parking lot a few times before I realized the place was located inside of a food hall. I finally got parking and went inside. Their was no counter with the name Chunky and Bops so now i'm confused. I finally see a few kiosks which seemed to be hanging on by a thread. I place my order and couldn't swipe my card. All of the machines seemed to be having issues with the card reader. Finally I decided to tap my card using my chip, which worked. I waited for my food over half an hour. I feel like they should hang a sign or give you a message while placing your order in regard to the excessive wait time. If I'm going for Iunch I may/may not have that amount of time to wait. It was decent, but a few things threw me off like...I ordered the Steak Royal, which comes with peppers, but why do y'all put the peppers in a separate container on the side? Also, there wasn't as much meat as I expected, especially compared to places like Cheesesteak & Co. And there was a lot of cheese...almost like a premade steak and cheese mix rather than something freshly cooked and layered. The real star, though, was the onion rings. Totally disappointed!! I saw you on Instagram earlier this week so hubby and I planned to come today. We arrived at 1:15 pm today at the food hall. Found a table and placed our order at 1:27pm. At 2:15 we still had not received our food. When my husband inquired about the status of our food, the gentleman at the door told him another 30-45 minutes that is completely unacceptable!! I don't like the ghost kitchen idea at all. Having to go to the bar to get a refund was another issue. We called our bank immediately and let USAA know of the experience and not receiving our food that we paid for. We left at at 2:30pm and our food never came. Totally Unacceptable!! Winner! Key is to order on line. I ordered online on Friday after work at 6:25 am and got a text saying my food was ready at 7pm. The customer service was excellent. 2 pretty women were at the front and walked around to offer help. I think one was Michael. She was classy and gracious. I ordered online from the new brick and mortar shop in Landover. Pros: Food was good. Steak was seasoned well. Bun was nice and soft and good amount of cheese. Cons: The wait the wait the wait. I get it new place and they have to get operations together. but here's a warning in case you think you can order and receive your food in a decent amount of time. I ordered at 5:30pm online which was easy. My order wasn't ready until 7pm. The store counter is a bit congested. You have a screen to order from, a cashier and a huge refrigerator of deserts. There is one line for EVERYTHING. For the wait, you cannot assume your order will be hot. While waiting 2 customers cancelled their order. A few suggestions - Place the ordering screen on a stand away from countertop so people can see where to order from. Create a separate pick up area or line. You can do that by moving the desert display either embedded in the counter or behind where the drinks are. Folks really weren't buying desserts could be because of the wait. If order online, I should be not be standing in the same line to place an order. Here is where I think the bottle neck is.... In a video - the owners mentioned he installed huge grills to make more sandwiches and I heard a lot of spatula noise with low turnout . Are sandwiches being cooked one by one ?!?! With X-Large grills and large customer volumes - meat should be cooking at all times. And when a sandwich is done - wrap it and get out the door not wait for 5-6 to be ready giving a luke warm sandwich to an almost 2 hour waiting customer. With only giving two stars. It really is a ghost kitchen. You order your food on a kiosk and the food magically appears lol! As mentioned, there's live music, a jazzy bar, game tables set up, like checkers and engaging, a few actual food spots and then the rest is "fantom". Oh and it was PACKED! I guess the typical Saturday night crowd... and its right down the street from UMD so I get it! My BF and I grabbed a table and began people watching and waiting... it got to a point where the live music performance began singing the order numbers for people to come get their food. And time flew because before we knew it, it was 852pm and we STILL had not gotten our food. Then the gentleman that was calling the order numbers came out and said last call and we got nervous because it was well pass the hour wait time and we were still hungry! By 910pm our number was called and I was HANGRY! We checked our order and everything was good to go! Now to the food... The fries were crinkle cut and left alot to be desired. I mean they were well seasoned but there was no razzle dazzle. They truly wanted the steak and cheese to be the star of the show! But unfortunately, for me and my BF, it wasn't too much to wrote home about. The sandwiches were beautifully wrapped and yes real ribeye is used! That's what gave this rating a 4 and not a 3... Toppings are VERY limited so dont expext to go crazy and extra cheese is $2.00... same price as the extra bacon (how sway how?!) Tomato or lettuce is not offered and neither is a drink option... can we at least get a signature Chunky n Bops drink to go?!? The manager just placates but there are huge disparates especially when you charge so much. The bread was hard and I'm not even sure it was cooked on a grill.
