Concise Review Great poolside food, drinks, & staff ----- Longer Review We have visited Marriott's Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert since 2002, and afternoons at the pool, with food and drinks from Chuckwalla Bar & Grill, are a bit part of every trip. One of my all time favorite photos is from a nice afternoon, poolside, several years ago when the kids were little... it was one of our most fun and peaceful afternoons as a family anywhere... the photos is of our daughter, asleep on my wonderful wife, my wonderful wife smiling at me, and our son was on the chair in between us, smiling as he was drinking a strawberry smoothie from Chuckwalla's... such a blessing. We visited Southern California - Palm Desert, Yucaipa, and Malibu - for Spring Break 2021. This trip we had more activities off-property than usual, so we only got one nice long afternoon at the pool, and RebekahM made it a little extra special. The sun, the water, fun in the pool... and smoothies... such a joy. Before I had a chance to think about it, smoothies were en route from Chuckwalla... strawberry, banana, and alcohol-free pina colada. Rebekah delivered them to us with a big smile and infectiously positive attitude. Rebekah turned the fun up a notch with her dancing and smiling and laughing as she took our orders and delivered to the families around the pool... everyone was extra happy when she was around. As someone who spent many years as a chef- take this review as someone who knows what they are taking about. You HAVE to eat these fish tacos! Perfectly balanced, flavor is there, the freshness is there, just a perfect lunch! I appreciated all of the non-alcoholic options for beverages as well for those who don't drink & for my kiddos as well. The staff here was amazing. I particularly appreciate Guillermo & Israel. I hope you all tip them BIG as well. These guys were quick and super friendly. "A lot of love went into this drink!" was told to me and I believe it. My husband had some cocktails and he enjoyed them very much. It is pricy like every other resort pool bar- but I wasn't mad at it. I was happy to pay what it cost! read more

Chuckwalla poolside bar and snacks is amazingly convenient and a brilliant idea for a resort like this. If you're looking for something at Shadow Ridge that isn't steak house pricing, but is conveniently located near your pool or near your room, this is it. Is it a bit pricey for what it is serving and not being a table service restaurant? Absolutely. But your options here are limited. Our bartender was friendly and good with suggestions on what to try. We ended up getting a turkey wrap with the chips, a soda, the buffalo wrap with fries, and a pina colada. I wouldn't recommend the Turkey wrap as it lacks a bit in flavor. The buffalo wrap was refreshing and I enjoyed it. Chips are good here, so no need to upgrade to fries. I liked the chips dipped in ranch. The fries are yummy. The pina colada was good. The soda is no refills in a tiny cup at a crazy price and I was so annoyed by that. If you're gonna charge outrageous soda prices, at least give refills. Anyways, judging from past Yelp reviews I expected inedible food and an awful experience. It was far from that. If you want to spend hours by the pool, or just not leave the hotel campus, this is the place for you! read more

This is a bar and grill located in the Shadow Ridge resort by one of their pools, the Chuckwalla, hence the name!! At poolside I never expect good food but at a resort I thought just maybe!! Well I was wrong!!! For starters the food order is placed at the bar where drinks are made. They should have their own window for that. We were given a buzzer to notify us when it was ready. It took a long time to get the food being it wasn't busy at that time. We ordered an appetizer which didn't come out until we got the whole order. The appetizer was called PALM PALM shrimp. We didn't ask ahead what it was but we were not expecting teriyaki sauced small shrimp laying on a bed of lettuce with a side of shredded raw carrots and celery pieces. It was the weirdest app I've ever had. I just didn't understand it, lol!! As for the rest of the food well it wasn't the best. My son had a corn dog and fries which is hard to mess up. The fries were good though!! My daughter had fish tacos which I ordered plain, just fish and tortilla, but they still put tartar sauce and somehow got it on the side of fruit. My California wrap was turkey, cheese and some greens. Tasted like it was sliced deli meat with American cheese and no dressing inside. Again, the fries were good at least!! The best part was the hubby's Cobb salad! It was fresh and had lots of egg and bacon. I was definitely happy with the bar drinks though!! Beer is served in an ice cup so it doesn't go warm. Nedy is an awesome server and the people at the bar were always super friendly. We had a drink spill and Nedy made sure the guys at the bar took care of me, wasn't expecting a replacement and it's really good customer service to make my wife a new one. We hardly left the property since it's so easy to just order food and drinks while at the pool. Good poolside food with excellent customer service, we will be back soon! read more

Food ok obviously over priced for what you get but not many options by the pool. Chips heavy for my taste but ciabatta chicken sandwich was good and my husband said burger good. The bartender was very personable and provided adequate service in a reasonable amount of time. I guess I should have ordered a salad since my sandwich was hearty and heavy but I figured lettuce would melt in this heat. It's okay..nothing is ever terrible. The drinks aren't super boozy so expect your standard pool side drinks that have just a splash of the good stuff in them (besides the bloody marys which are GREAT) and Nedy is excellent serving that pool! The smoothies are good, nachos were okay..chicken tenders and fries, all okay. The prices are, IMO, at least all a dollar or few too high. Pina coladas are $12, smoothies $8, chicken tenders $12, chips and salsa $8..$36 bucket of 6 beers..the list goes on. They do have servers walking around the pool to take orders and people working the kitchen and bar, so I do expect to pay a price for the convenience and pool service..maybe just a buck or two cheaper. Overall nothing remarkable here, but it's a nice service to offer guests and I enjoyed splurging at the pool every now and then. read more

First time here. By the reviews, I expected McDonald's type food. I was surprised when I ate my food! It was really good! Especially the fry's!!! I had the Chicken Sandwich on a ciabatta roll. It was really tasty! Prices are a bit high (I'm really cheap), but what do you expect from a pool side place? If you don't want to go back to your villa, or drive out of the resort, this place is great! Service was also faster than I expected! I gave 4 stars because you have to go pick up the food yourself instead if being served poolside. Totally fine to pick it up! Food was delicious! read more

Ordered fruit smoothies for my kids and asked them to split it into two cups, which the bartender did with no problems. Later my husband ordered the corn dog, which took about 30 minutes to get. It was decent, but not worth the wait. Fries were tasty. Slow, but convenient if you are at the pool. read more

My family is constantly at Shadow Ridge, and we are always right across the street from this bar. We love going here and love the choices on the menu . My favourite thing to get is the frozen grapes, and the cheese flatbread. It is a little spendy, but since we are on vacation I think it is worth it. I highly recommend this place, with the great food choices and the amazing staff. They are so friendly and always seem to put a smile on my face. Also, it is super convenient since there is pool side service and room charging. No need to get out a credit card, all you have to do is give them your room number. The fact that they don't take cash doesn't bother me, because of the room charging, but i understand being a little flustered about that. All in all, me and my family LOVE this place, and highly recommend it. Make sure you try the frozen grapes though, they are a great price and are so tasty and refreshing! read more

Plenty of empty seating and our waiter was better suited slanging used cars than fine food. I don't mean that in a mean way, it's just at $150/plate I thought we'd be getting some fancy Valentine's Day treatment rather than the roadside diner experience, and I believe it to be a problem with management rather than the guy himself. One of the waiters literally tossed bread onto the plates like he was playing beer pong, and I think he swung around twice to fill some waters with little other contact. Anyways, for the food, absolutely underwhelming. My wife's tuna looked great, but I ordered a Caesar salad that was literally three full stocks of lettuce with some fish tossed on top. It's funny, I just watched a show where a sous chef made the same kind of salad and the chef had to gently reprimand the sous chef by asking her to "give it a bit of a chop" so a guest wouldn't struggle to eat it. I wish he worked here. My wife had the fish which she said was 'fine,' and my steak was... well... I'm a steak guy, and when the inside is beet red and there's a massive grey band, it means they didn't thaw the steak properly and likely hid a less-than-prime cut with a hefty portion of reduction sauce. The deserts were both a tad dry, the red velvet and the chocolate lava cake. And at the end, the slap in the face with the "credit card price" vs. the "cash price" sent me over the edge. It was only a $13 difference, but its principle and the fact that I'm not a Colombian drug lord carrying stacks of hundos that was the final disappointment. Anyways, it was definitely food, but if there's a Denny's around you I might give that a shot instead for your next Valentine's Day experience.
