Instead of greeting customer and telling them "sit wherever you like" upon or shortly after arrival, waitresses just walked by and said nothing to us and avoided eye contact. We had no way of knowing it was that type of place where you grab your own sit. Eventually a sweet lady working behind the kitchen counter showed some hospitality and told us to sit where we like. Chubs is proof that looks can be deceiving. The exterior isn't great, but once I entered I was greeted warmly by every single person I encountered. The food is absolutely spectacular. I got the Florentine Benedict which did not disappoint. The pimento cheese grits are delectable, rich and unctuous. My husband had the Carnivore omelette and a biscuit with gravy. Not impressed. Was seated at a half booth (booth seating on one side of the table and a single chair on the other.). After a few moments a female staff member asked my girlfriend if she could use her chair. No idea why she need the chair my girlfriend complied. The staff member then moved the chair to another full booth for a fifth person forcing my girlfriend to share the small half booth with me. One of my pet peeves is couples sitting next to each other at a table... Not believing this had actually happened I was pissed! We ordered our food which was mediocre at best. We popped into town and heard this place just opened. We decided too give it a try with low expectations as they HHS's just opened. Boy were we surprised. The food was so fresh and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is laid back and casual. Our waiter was in top of making sure we had everything we needed. It was so good my wife and I wwent back the next day I had the patty melt which was out of this world and my wife had the chicken and dumplings was was so good it would make you slap your momma. I am pretty amazed this restaurant runs so smoothly in such a small time frame. The owner even walks from table to table to check on customers in between cooking meals. Give this place a shot! Reserve ruling until we've been there several times. Each time the staff has been friendly and attentive. The pancakes are big crispy yet soft inside with a great flavor. The biscuits are great. The grits are creamy and smooth. An excellent breakfast. As good as breakfast is, the lunch specials might be better. Meatloaf is amazing. Pot roast is awesome. We waited patiently for the new replacement for our "go to" breakfast Huddle House". Only to be disappointed. The menu offered both a great breakfastfast and lunch menu with some great daily specials , an improvement we hoped for. Busy Sunday lunch visit was quite disappointing. Food was poorly prepared, and very slow to arrive. Asking some local folks who were leaving as we waited for a seat how it was. The response was the same, slow and not good. I really hope they succeed because it's a good location and attractive menu but the dysfunctional cook and line staff are sorely lacking the short order line skills to make this place a success. Giving them time to get themselves together, providing their menu selections, well prepared, with no extended waits, and if you sit at the counter, the cooking line becomes a positive side of the show. Went back a few weeks later . Things going a lot smoother and better. Orders are complete when served, quality of food prep is rising. The experience was much more enjoyable this time . read more

One of our new favorite places to eat! We have done breakfast & lunch and have never been disappointed. The reviews that are critical are obviously from when the restaurant first opened! The pot roast - delicious. Meatloaf - wonderful (green beans are to die for! As are the collards!) catfish - very good. Pastrami Reuben is spot on - and uses pickled shredded Brussels sprouts in place of sauerkraut. As far as breakfast - biscuits and gravy are great, pancakes yummy, and eggs Benedict very good. Not a huge fan of the hash - but that's more of a personal thing. So hope this place continues to have wonderful success! read more

Typical greasy spoon diner that I have passed for over 30 years until last week. I can honestly say I haven't missed much! The waitress not overly friendly and she would do a number of tasks like serving then bus and wiping down tables with a spray then proceed to make and butter toast with no notice hand washing done. however that didn't stop me from eating my breakfast of veggie omelet home fries and the biggest slices of toast I ever had and I enjoyed it. My girlfriend and I stopped in Chubs for lunch on our way home from visiting St. Simons Island this weekend. Everything from the food to the customer service was top notch! Upon entering, we were greeted by the entire staff with many warm welcomes and smiles. Directed to choose any available seat by our hospitable server, we found the perfect seating in a booth near the cooking area. We were offered menus and given the specials of the day, as well as adequate time to peruse the menu before making our selection. We were quite hungry, so I ordered "The Carnivore" omelet with potatoes while she ordered the "Breakfast Burrito". We also ordered a fat stack of blueberry pancakes because the pictures were so inviting. First of all, the omelet was amazing for any meat lover...sausage, bacon, ham, and pimento cheese stuffed inside a warm fluffy egg omelet. Secondly, her breakfast burrito was massive and not for the faint of heart. The burrito consisted of eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes packed full inside a warm soft flour tortilla. My girlfriend was very complimentary of the burrito and almost finished the entire thing. Next, we split the pancakes, two for each person. They were soft and fluffy with a beautiful golden brown outside. The blueberries were fresh and the syrup made the pancakes an enjoyable experience. Finally, we had to try the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake for dessert. All I can say is delicious to the infinite power. The staff, including Chef Connor, came to our table and made sure we felt welcome and were taken care of until we left. I strongly recommend to anyone in the St. Simons Island area looking for an affordable, customer service based restaurant with excellent food to stop by and see for yourself what Chubs is all about! read more
