Yesterday was my husband's birthday, and we drove nearly 40 minutes to Chubby Cattle in Rowland Heights. We arrived at 9:09 PM, but unfortunately we were turned away by a female host. I completely understand that restaurants have closing policies, but what disappointed me was her attitude and the way we were treated. As someone who has been a loyal Chubby customer for the past two years, it honestly made me feel a little sad. Thankfully, my husband found Chubby Mart nearby. The host explained that the kitchen would be closing soon and suggested we come back another day for the best experience. I thought our birthday dinner was over, but after I explained to the manager that it was my husband's birthday and we were happy with a simple last minute dinner, he immediately welcomed us in and assured us we would still be able to enjoy fresh food. That manager truly understands what great hospitality means. Before we even started eating, he had already won us over with his kindness and professionalism. To me, great customer service is just as important as great food. The staff were friendly, attentive, and hardworking. Even though we arrived late, there was still a great selection of fresh seafood, delicious hot pot ingredients, and a well-stocked drink station. Everything was clean, organized, and well maintained. The Sichuan broth was especially delicious. Overall, Chubby Mart completely turned our night around. My family had a wonderful experience, and I'm truly grateful to the manager and the entire team for making my husband's birthday feel special. A lot of variety to choose from! There is hot pot & bbq that you can cook at your table and many items that are ready to eat. There is a 90 minute time limit. If you are a qualified Chubby plus member or NFT holder, you can make reservations, which lessons the wait time for busy days. I'm a Silver member so it was easy to make Fathers Day reservations and we were seated within 15 minutes of checking in at opening. You can choose 2 broth choices for hot pot, and they're free upgrades if you're members, otherwise for example, Lobster broth is $5 extra. The skewer station gets busy and can run out until they make more. Since it's made right there, there may be a short wait for refills during busy times. However, don't go just to eat a bunch of skewers, especially when you can just go to Chubby Skewers! There's fresh crab, mussels and clam, which are a good size. You can get your usual hot pot items (veggies, noodles etc.). They have sushi rolls and sashimi. They had a sushi taco which had a fried seaweed shell and my son had the eel one and he said he'd eat it again. They also had a chopped fish version (tuna?) as well. It looks big but it was overpowering with rice, which is good so you won't feel like its filling you up. The fried area with taro ball, sesame balls, wagyu pancake etc was also good. The burger was probably one of the better burgers from a Chubby restaurant. Very kid friendly area of food. We enjoyed the short plate and Australian wagyu steak for the grill. Love that they provide seasonings to go with it on the tray. The hot pot meat was also good. The Peking Duck station got set up at 12:30pm and the line started forming. Given the time limit to eat, it was a time killer waiting in the line for 2 small wraps on the plate eaten in 2 bites. Once the 2 ducks were used, then there was no duck for a while. I think that station needs more support, especially busy days. We loved the variety of drinks in the fridge!! All sorts of teas, soy milk, plum juice, chrysanthemum tea etc. For our family of 4, it ended up being a little bit of hot pot and and a little grilling with eating the stuff at the stations. I don't really eat hot pot - a few times at people's houses, and 3 times at restaurants in all my life (does Shabu Shabu count as hot pot?) - this being my 4th time, but was eating out with a girl friend and we decided to try this place. This place is soo cool! The ambiance is so futuristic and has a layout like a supermarket (thus the name) where go push a cart around and pick what you want to cook up at your table. It's a la carte, so you just pay for what you pick out. Our server was very nice and explained how the whole concept works. The different plate sizes/shapes indicate different prices. Our server came by often to take away plates, refill broth, and our waters. The only thing is that everything adds up REALLY quick. As I said before, I don't normally eat hot pot, so getting a membership was not worth it for me. Yeah I get that you can get a lobster or something for your birthday with the membership, but I don't eat lobster or crab or any of the good stuff so it's not worth it for me. And because we didn't get the membership, we had to pay regular price for the sauces, the broth, and all the items we picked up. For the two of us eating 2 plates of chicken, 1 plate of pork, tofu, fishballs, and some veggies it came out to over $100 (which my friend told me is not normally how much hot pot costs her). Yikes! This place was super hyped on TikTok and there was a buzz around this concept of a market to table experience. Food: 3/5 Unfortunately, the food was quite a letdown. There is a huge variety that includes kbbq, hotpot, sushi, skewers, and dim sum. However, they are definitely the "Jack of all trades, master of none." None of the food was truly bad but none of it was really good either. This place is essentially a glorified buffet. The Korean bbq meats on the fattier sided and there was no premium items like beef tongue or pork jowl. The hotpot had the best selections of meat, but they lacked a lot of essentials like popping fish balls, spam, and chrysanthemum (tong ho). The skewers were good, but they cook those super slow and the like to get them took forever. They should regulate the lines by allowing only two per person because people were grabbing like 10 which made the wait impossible. Lastly, the sushi and dessert bar were pretty good. Service: 4/5 We got reservations, so we did not have to wait too long to get in. We got seated right away and we have 70 minutes to order, and 90 minutes to finish our food. It was plenty of time. The server was nice and explained to us the different broths for the hotpot. The only bad part of the service was, again, the wait it took to get certain food items. Price: 4/5 We got the members pricing and added hotpot to our meal. The total came out to $65 per person after tip and tax. It was worth it for the experience, but not for the food. If I were to spend that amount, I would go to a specialized location that does premium sushi or premium kbbq instead of here. Ambiance: 5/5 This place has a cool concept. My husband's favorite is the hot pot. There are a variety of items to choose for hot pot: meats, pork, seafood, noodles, and veggies. I got to try quail eggs here for the first time. The drink selection is abundant. I like the bottled jasmine tea. But lots of drinks to try. The bbq meats are good but it's different than chubby cattle grills. I think the hotpot meat is better. Brought my friends here to eat after they changed their à la carte menu to ayce. I've only been here once before the menu change. I regret bringing my friends here, because by the time we were seated, it was about 9pm and we felt so rushed to eat, it was so unpleasant. For a party of 12; 7 adults and 5 kids, it's not easy to have to go grab your food, cook it, make sure the kids eat and then you eat. 90 minutes is simply not enough time for a large party to eat and enjoy the meal. This should be adjusted. As I stated before, it was about 9pm when we started eating, by then, a lot of the food like the beef tongue and other meats were gone and some foods were only a few left, and never restocked again. When we asked the server to see if he can bring out more tangerines for the kids and he just flat out refused. If they're gonna clean up and take out the food before they close, they should not be accept customers at a later time. It's not fair to pay the same premium and not have all the food available. On top of that, I feel that the meat quality went downhill and the cooked food taste like regular buffet food. And the soup base was salty. My friends and I were so disappointed. In addition, since we're a large group, gratuity is added automatically, but the math is not adding up right. We realized that the tip is calculated on the original price, not the member price. That's so SHADY. What's the point of having the membership if the tip is still calculated like that? And for non-members, they charge for soup base! For what? Isn't it already ayce place? It's so misleading for what they advertise. And for the kids price, it's half off of the original price, not my member price. So $30 for a 4-5 year old kid is ridiculous. Kids can't even eat much. I've been to quite a few Chubby Group establishments, and unfortunately this was probably my least favorite experience so far. The biggest issue was that it felt like you really had to work to get your food. A lot of the stations were constantly running out of items, so you had to stand around and hope you caught them during a refill. The skewer section was frequently empty, and the drink fridge was often half empty as well. To make matters worse, many of the drinks weren't even cold. The Peking duck station was another challenge. The speed of the employee carving the duck was honestly comical. The line barely moved, and by the time you got your portion, you definitely weren't eager to get back in line for seconds. What made this even more frustrating was that guests are limited to 70 minutes to collect food. That may sound like plenty of time, but it goes by surprisingly quickly when you're constantly waiting for stations to be restocked. A good portion of our meal was spent circling the buffet and hoping items would reappear rather than actually enjoying the food. The meat quality was also disappointing. Some of the cuts labeled as Wagyu were mostly fat with very little actual meat. The dessert selection didn't do much to make up for it either, as most of the options looked pretty unappealing. Even the seating could use some attention. We were seated at a booth with a bench that was extremely wobbly. Every time someone got up, the entire bench would tilt, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. The one bright spot was our server, Nathan. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to be doing his best to provide a good experience despite the issues around him. Overall, I left feeling frustrated more than satisfied. Between the constant waiting, inconsistent food availability, disappointing meat quality, and the feeling that you had to hunt down your food, this wasn't the experience I've come to expect. read more

But they have great selections of NA beverages like fresh watermelon juice, plum juice and Chinese brand canned drinks. We love the supermarket concept to pick up whatever we want to try. The atmosphere is lively and fun. My favorites are Dungeness crab and lobsters from the tanks. But they don't always have Dungeness crabs though. I came here on a Friday night, and my friend made a reservation for us five to dine in. Even though we were all there on time, they still made us wait for almost 30 minutes before our table was ready. They gave us a menu to look at, and the options for the all you can eat ranged from base to the more premium options. The premium options didn't really seem worth it, especially the $110+ version. I like a good peking duck, but for that much? Anyway, our group decided to get the base option. When we got seated, our server went over what broths to order on the monitor and told us we can get our food to cook and eat from the buffet bar area. The one thing that was confusing was that we were never given water cups/water, and our group was confused on whether there was actually no water served and we just had to settle on the refrigerated Chinese drinks they had. It was weird that the server didn't notice, and when I noticed the other tables actually had a water pitcher and water cups, that's when I asked the server. Funny thing was that they ran out of water pitchers, but they did offer water cups at least. The food selection was pretty large though, especially for the meats that were ready to cook and the hot pot vegetable and seafood part. My girlfriend remarked that the vegetables did not seem thoroughly cleaned though and some of the vegetables seemed to still have dirt on them. The meat quality looked fresh and relatively did taste good. The whole hot pot surrounding the grill part was interesting, but personally I'm not a big fan of the setup. The hot pot setup felt a little too narrow for my liking. The broth was good in flavor though, but also heavy in oil. The grill was pretty good though and grilled the meats perfectly. It did burn easily though after a couple times cooking meat on the grill though. There were also cooked sections of the buffet, which ranged from skewers, seafood, baos, fried stuff, and even egg tart. I also tried the wagyu burger, which was decent. The meat on the burger was good, but the bun may have been a bit too crispier than a normal bun. The skewer meat quality was ok as well, but there were some parts where the fat was inedible for my liking. The baos were good in my opinion. I thought the egg tart was just ok, a bit different from the usual Cantonese style I have had. It had a sweet tofu pudding like texture, which was interesting, while my girlfriend did not like it and couldn't even finish it. The time limit for the Chubby Mart aka buffet was limited to 90 minutes, and they are really STRICT on the time. My group was almost done grilling the last meats before a server came in and said we had to go. While he was right that the time was up, it felt like the food was going to be wasted and that I don't think it really would have hurt anyone to extend another 10 minutes just to finish up the remaining food. The food waste felt real for this part. Overall, the quality at Chubby Mart was decent for a buffet and I would assume the style of the place was to show off each parts of Chubby Mart. It missed the mark for me though, as the premium experience that Chubby Group advertises was not reflective at Chubby Mart. This felt like going to a slightly above average Vegas buffet with a strict time limit on dining. If you actually want a "premium" Chubby experience, go to Mikiya for shabu, or Chubby Cattle for the yakiniku, otherwise you are just overpaying for a timed buffet. Service was below part of what I experienced from the other Chubby places as well. I guess they really delivered on the "taking people back to China" vibes, although I have had better service at some Mainland China restaurants than here for the similar price point. Been hearing a lot about this new Chubby Mart concept from the Chubby Group, so after seeing multiple videos on social media, I decided to give it a try. The concept is a mix of hot pot and Korean BBQ, with the grill in the middle and hot pot around the sides. You grab dishes market-style with a small cart, but just know it's not all-you-can-eat and everything is charged by the plate -- even sauces. They'll also try to sell you a membership for discounts, but honestly the savings basically matched the membership cost, so unless you come often, I personally don't think it's worth it. The place itself felt smaller than I expected from the videos online. I ordered the Wagyu fried rice, crispy pancake, and a couple bao including the braised beef with uni. The soup base was alright, but nothing memorable. A lot of the food felt very oily and greasy. Granted, I ordered a lot of Wagyu, which I expected the richness from that, but I also think part of the issue was the grill setup since there's nowhere for the oil to properly drain like at other Korean BBQ spots. The oil just pooled on the grill while cooking. The Wagyu fried rice lacked flavor and was greasy, the crispy pancake mostly tasted like fried batter and oil, and I could barely taste the uni in the bao. While the food wasn't bad and definitely edible, I personally think there are better spots with more flavor and better quality options. I will say the interior was nice and our server was very attentive and constantly cleared our table, which I appreciated. 1000000 stars for the great concept. Chubby mart comes from the Chubby group and it's literally a market where you take your cart and shop around for ingredients. I came here on Mother's Day for lunch and the line was surprisingly not that long. I came here a few times there had always been a super long wait, which was great. I believe you can make reservations also. The hostess gives a quick intro to the place and then you go shopping. The decor and everything was all on point. You shop for ingredients for hot pot and can order skewers and bao from the iPad they have at the table. I ordered a uni and waygu and bao was pretty good and juicy. As I have been on a chubby kick the last few years, Chubby mart is like Wagyu house and chubby skewers rolled into one. The only reason why I'm docking off a star is because I felt like the meat was not as good as the normally chubby restaurants and the skewers were super chewy (I ended up not finishing mine). Came to try their all you can eat and was super impressed. You can use the chubby membership to get the $45 dinner pricing and free soup for hot pot (which is normally $5 a person w/o membership). They have a wide variety of food so it can get overwhelming. There's sushi, sashimi, fried foods, hot foods, yakitori skewers, hot pot, and bbq as well as an open drink fridge so come hungry. My beautiful lady and I had dinner at Chubby Mart for the first time tonight, and we must say it was a lovely experience. We've done Chubby Cattle and enjoyed the concept; we heard great things about Chubby Mart's super market style concept and wanted to give it a try. It's now AYCE with a decent number of options. We arrived close to 6PM on a Thursday night and had about a 30 minutes wait before we were seated. If you are a Chubby Club Plus member, you get the hotpot add on and 2 broth choices for free. We chose the tomato and lobster broths. The tomato broth was exactly what you would expect and was a great option. We didn't enjoy the lobster broth too much and felt that it was underwhelming and quite bland. We enjoyed the multiple cuts of waygu and meats available in the front station, the Peking duck and live crab area, the BBQ section, and the many options of teas and fizzy drinks in the self help drinks fridge. The sliced meats and BBQ station had about 20ish different thinly sliced pieces on plastic wrapped trays; they were decently marbled, and were quite tender. We mostly enjoyed the waygu neck slices. The Peking duck was decent; it is freshly cut into 2 pieces dishes and wrapped in front of you. You will also find chilled blue and stone crab halves, live claims and mussels, and cooked cod in this area that were delectable. I thought the stone crab was excellent and far easier to eat than I was expecting. The live clams had a nice taste but the edible part easy come apart from their shells and will end up lost in the abyss at the bottom of either side of the pot. The drinks section was pretty good, and was full or pre filled cups. We didn't find straws for these cups that would make drinking from these cups easier, but maybe it was just us who had an issue with that. They also had bottled branded teas, Chi sparkling drinks, strawberry/melon/banana flavored milk boxes, and Coke and Sprite cans. We enjoyed the milk teas, the pear flavored bottled tea, the melon and banana milk, and oolong black teas. The tofu, shrimp paste, veggie, and noodles section reminds me of a malatang place in how things are laid out and had a decent number of options. The shrimp paste balls were by far the best thing you will find here. You will also find some quality eggs, ramen, and glass noodles here. The baked items section next to the Peking ducks station had some decent options like baked mussels, grilled waygu slices, and what appeared to be thinly sliced waygu prearrange dishes. I didn't try the baked mussels, but everything else was good. The skewers section next to this area was ok at best. I tried the pork belly and didn't think it was something I would choose again as it tastes a bit over seasoned and was quite stiff. The dessert bar was quite limited, but I enjoyed the macaroons the most, while my lovely lady enjoyed a chocolate mousse slice. She only ate half of an egg tart, which is usually a sign that it's not the best. I think they could significantly improve this section with some ice cream options. You will also find a small section with things like burgers, fries, chicken nuggets, and like items next to the dessert bar. We didn't try these options, but might be good if you have kids with you. The seafood section next to the sushi area had multiple choices of shelled and peeled shrimps and prawns, baby octopus, and some choice fish slices. We mostly just had the peeled shrimp on this visit, but the options did all look appealing. I didn't try the sushi rolls and sashimi, but they also appeared quite fresh and you can see there was genuine grounded wasabi to the left of the station. My lady had some pieces of salmon sashimi, but focused more on the hot pot items. The service was outstanding with our servers clearing out dishes frequently. They started us off with ordering the broths, kept us informed when it was 15 minutes from final call and when we had about half an hour left before the allotted 90 minutes time limit would be over. We enjoyed the Chubby Mart experience, and didn't feel like we were going to explode like when we visited the Chubby Cattle in Irvine. The pricing isn't bad at roughly $50 a person for the visit, and we think it was well worth it. Highly recommended. read more

The place is huge, comparable size to chubby cattle in Rowland heights. I liked the theme a lot, it was giving Star Wars haha. It's definitely a cool experience and very different from other hot pot places in terms of layout and vibe. I Came here on a weekday to celebrate a birthday. We didn't wait too long to get seated. The set up is cool on the table because you get a hotpot and a grill which is very unique. The staff there are so helpful and attentive. They have Uni, sushi sashimi, and a great selection of seafood! However, it is pretty pricy and I would only come here for special occasions. Its vibe and experience is completely different from a hotpot place but the food and taste is comparable to Hai Di Lao. Overall this was a great experience! read more
