Ordered three milkshakes. Took 50 minutes. Never coming back. Everyone in the place was complaining about how long they had been waiting and some about the quality when they finally got stuff. Also it's mostly closed down, not what you think it would be like from the outside. They blamed it on the ordering system, not printing in the back, even though it charged me. Yet they never turned off that system or put a sign on it or anything. Another upset customer said the same. It happened to him earlier. I'm here at Oakland's iconic longtime Chubby Freeze. What a name! It's been here surviving independently, squashed in between the two giant burger chains of McDonald's and Burger King! The Chub survives! I'm taken here scouting out original Oakland dive restaurants, and this place has been here over 30 years. Maybe different owners during that time, but it survives as an Oakland original right next door to Burger King and McDonald's! Prices have increased of course in the last 30 years. A big burger combo served with a plate load of fries and a drink was just $3.50 back then I'm told. It's $11.00 now I think. Being down in the heart of East Oakland, this is probably not a place you might want to come after dark, unless you're armed I suppose. The food here is great. The food is hamburger diner with everything that goes with it. Outside service window is the only way to order ,unless you order online, then you wait in your car while your order is being processed. We stopped here for a strawberry milkshake as I've been meaning to stop here for a while now since I've seen it going to the airport quite a bit. It is fenced off between McDonald's and Burger King so it can be easy to miss but it was worth the effort to make it there. The milkshake itself was great, but about a third of the cup was fresh strawberries so it was difficult to enjoy without a spoon. The syrup used for the strawberries was a bit too sweet for me but the shake itself was tasty. My only complaint is that the indoor seating was closed even though the lights in there were on. Additionally, the outside seating area was not well-maintained because there was visible trash and what not. There were only two people working there so that can be difficult to clean up, but that makes eating there a possible issue. read more

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss the old Chubby Freeze. This place will go out of business soon unless they change the cooks and the food quality. I will never go back. The burger looked like a 2yr made it. They got my whole order wrong. They barely understood what I was saying then to argue back with me when they even forgot a burger. When I opened my burger, I was like WTF. I flew back to Chubby freeze and threw the burger on the counter and said, "you need to learn how to make a burger". Who the hell is cooking back there! It looked like my burger got ran over and they put so much shredded lettuce it looked like a salad burger. I asked for a vanilla shake they gave me a banana shake (watery). I regret not taking a photo of my food but I was so hot mad I couldn't even think straight after spending $32. They did refund my money but it doesn't change the fact that there food is not good. A bologna sandwich will taste better and I hate bologna. And it took almost 30 min to cook 2 burgers...really! Not returning. Change your cooks and make better burgers. Get better meat, more meat. Okay so let me start by saying looks can be completely deceiving! From the outside looking in and especially if you aren't from the area this place can look a little sketch. It's definitely a "hole in the wall" spot but do not knock it until you try it! It can be little hard to spot, as it is slightly hidden in between the gas station and the Macdonalds. This place has the BEST milkshakes and even better burgers! The fries are also really tasty, i always ask for them to be cooked extra crispy :). They give you a pretty good amount as well! I can never finish all of my food. There's a small parking lot and an outside area where you can sit as well as an inside area. On weekdays after around 7pm they do close the inside seating area, so If you would like to dine in I recommend coming a little earlier. The prices are also extremely cheap! You really get a bang for your buck! This place is definitely on my list of fast food favorites! read more
