I love coming to the Chuan spa...it's quite and peaceful especially if you come on a weekday. I love getting my haircut from Felipa who is super nice and great with styling my hair. I always wish I had a date or plans to go out when she's done styling my hair. I love the spa facilities and the friendly service...big shout to their mimosa Monday's! Of the last 10 times I've been here, only once there was a crowd and it became loud. Mostly it's a zen place which I enjoy since thats why I go to the spa! The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is that they charge you for valet. I do miss the complimentary parking they used to have for the spa guests in the past. Used to be a fabulous spa when it was owned by The HuntingtonnRitz Carlton and then The Langham back in the 90s and early 2000s. Bought by an offshore interest, all manicures & pedicures were cut out of their Spa. Unbelievable. Have you ever been to a Spa that doesn't offer mani/pedis? All the long-term employees are all gone now. The wonderful luxurious spa chairs removed, the hair salon gone. Some corporate, penny pinching idiot decided women just want massages without every other beauty treatment being necessary. Huge loss to the community. read more

You take a questionnaire to determine whether you are "Wood," "water," "fire," etc.; it honestly felt like they were going to start running lines from Captain Planet. My massage felt so amazing I fell asleep and shamefully woke up to the sound of my snoring. Had a great time for my birthday. The facilities itself is a bit small but it was fine because the price point controls the amount of people that uses it. I liked how attentive the staff was to cleaning the wet spa area. Massage was good, but not the best I've ever had. My masseuse was attentive but has cold hands. The customer service is excellent, Manager Monica, and Derek are super professional, and they make the environment very welcome and very comfortable. Today, I booked HydraFacial. The price is raised. Before, it was 60 minutes $250, now it is 50 minutes $280. It is way over-priced. Although, the extraction and massage on my face was excellent, however the time which was using the Hydra-Facial machine on my face was only around 15 minutes for the entire session! The HydraFacial is one of the most expensive facial, because of their Hydra-Facial machine, their Hydra-Facial tips (4 different new tips for each client), and their Hydra-Facial serum. If I would like to spend more time on extraction and facial massage, I would definitely just booked a regular facial, but not HydraFacial, because it won't cost as much as HydraFacial. I had a HydraFacial in Qua Spa Caesar's Palace Las Vegas 3 months ago (I have been their repeated customer for few years, every time when I traveled to Las Vegas), their HydraFacial price is similar as Chuan Spa Pasadena. All the Estheticians in Qua Spa used their HydraFacial machine (with sufficient amount of four different serum) to work on my face and my neck almost all the time for the entire session, and followed up with a collagen mask (the collagen mask which is included in the price). Every time I had their HydraFacial, my face and my neck was very hydrated, lifted, and glowed for 3 weeks. This is the expected result from the HydraFacial. Chuan Spa is way too overpriced, to use the HydraFacial machine to work on my face for just 15 minutes! Last but not least, few years ago, Chuan Spa customer would received free parking. However, these recent few years, the Hotel started to charge Spa customers to pay parking ($10 with validation). read more

First time ever to Chuan Spa. I figured it had to be nice as it was part of the Langham Huntington.. So I pre-booked for my birthday month spa celebration (as a tradition).. I didn't take advantage of the gym facilities, as I don't ever do yuck-butt gyms, lol!! However I noticed they had fitness classes, so I took advantage of the schedule. I began with Tai chi (first time trying Tai chi) and yoga in the morning. Then.. lounged (for hours +) in the sizable steam room afterwards and laid across the long bench steps. I actually enjoyed the ambient lighting inside. The jacuzzi spa had bubble jets, but it was smaller in size. I only soaked for 5 mins.. The spa is traditional in decor with some dated design elements, yet still classy overall.. My massage with Nadia was absolutely needed and therapeutic. Her professionalism & harder pressure (which I personally requested) caused the pain I require to get out my tension and stiffness. I hydrated with so much complimentary herbal teas and cucumber water all day long... I couldn't even drink the complimentary champagne or wine, while being in mindful spa mode.. The fresh fruit, nuts, dried fruit, coffee, half & half were very convenient for snacking and a nice added touch. The treatments can get pricey, so you have the option to enjoy a $50 Spa Day pass with full use of steam, sauna, jacuzzi jets, fitness classes, etc without needing to be spendy.. The Dream Room is a brilliant idea after the massage. There are water beds and regular beds for napping in pure tranquility. Luv luv the concept and execution!!! After another visit into the steam room to refresh, I peeked inside the fitness room to find the instructor was present with no one present nor training. She convinced me to get dressed for low impact circuit class. How could I refuse her? I felt bad the entire room was empty! After one on one circuit training with the instructor, more steam room relaxation before I head over to my first ever kickboxing class!!! I mean I was sooo damn SORE over the next several days. My body was wiped out, as if an 18 wheel semi HIT ME head on, WTS? I'M SOOOOOOO OUTTA SHAPE!!! They also validate your valet parking (BONUS) and it was such a fabulous experience and needed rejuvenation time... Definitely be back soon! read more

Also got the manicure and pedicure by Kuntida, who is meticulous and friendly. Comfy and posh nail salon without being pretentious. Nice facilities with clean showers, jacuzzi, steam room, and dry sauna. Steam room has the perfect hot temperature; however, the jacuzzi was lukewarm again. There are complimentary dried apricots, cranberries, and fresh oranges/apples to snack on. The strawberry infused water is refreshing. The dream room has comfy lounge beds to relax on. Free wifi. I thought the experience was overall ok but not exceptional. The massage was a little strange at times and not particularly special in any way. I did like the post-massage relaxation area. There is one small whirlpool in the dressing area but there was a lady speaking very loudly on the phone when I was there. There were some hiccups in the booking process and the tea was lukewarm. So all just small things but overall I wasn't thrilled. Also, at the end they add on 20% gratuity and then ask you if you want to add an extra 20%. I've never been asked to pay a total of 40% gratuity for a massage and certainly wouldn't for this experience. I probably will not return. read more

My best friend and I had a very enjoyable time at the Chuan Spa on Sunday 1/15/23. We booked separate treatments, and went in early to enjoy the spa, which included a steam room, jacuzzi and sauna. Each of our treatments - he loved his massage, and I loved my foot treatment. Very warm and calming environment, and both masseuses were excellent. My only issue was that we were told "about 5 minutes before your treatment exit through the back door and wait for your technician"....but the front desk staff person should have said "and walk down the middle area where there is tea, coffee, water and snacks"...this would have made the whole experience much more zen (it's a very nice relaxation area). read more

My friend brought me here for my birthday and I would say that it was such a fine day of relaxation and pampering. I've been to other luxury spas, but I liked how the staff here seem to be more genuinely friendly and caring. They pay attention to their guests. I particularly liked Megan who gave me a Swedish massage - mind you, I snored during the treatment! She was very pleasant. The facial treatment was ok, given by another lady. I would have appreciated her describing to me what she was doing on my face, but that's fine. Made me worry a bit when she sneezed though and started having sniffles. I hope she doesn't get sick (nor myself). I like how the spa is not so crowded, or maybe because we went on a weekday. The amenities are fine... Tiny space, but manageable. Maybe they could improve the vanity area - first thing I noticed was there wasn't a single hair flat/curling iron - most luxury spas would have this. I didn't notice cotton buds either, but maybe I just missed it. For such a pricey service, they should even be able to offer disposable undergarments for those who would need it. I would say this is the best spa I've been to in the area (SGV), but the price is very steep. They have a full service salon in the front area and nail area for pedicures. The waiting area is lovely and they offer spa water, tea and champagne. The massage therapists were very friendly and the massage was great. They put my husband and I in the Dream Room after our massage to relax with champagne and chocolate. We live locally and love the Langham Hotel and check in to the hotel twice a year and go to the TAP Room once a month. We been coming to the hotel way back even when it was Ritz Carlton, but first time trying the Spa. Here are pros and cons; Pros: our massage therapists were wonderful, very professional and did a great job. Cons: The place is not very clean. The sinks were dirty and you can see hair all over. The towels are all messy, not nicely folded. My bathrobe had two stains on it. It might have been just a stain and being clean, but how would I know. There was a Eucalyptus mist in the shower rooms that was chained to the wall, like someone will take them!! You don't expect things like this from hotels in this caliber. The shower rooms are so small, almost 3x3. I understand that there could be things that they can't change like the size of the shower-rooms but all others can be definitely be fixed. Very bizarre massage.... Not like a traditional massage where you feel super relaxed and feel relief in some areas of your body that you identified as needing some attention. I felt like I was being rubbed down with lotion / oil and my head was being scratched for an hour. Masseuse asked where to focus on and where to avoid at the beginning of the massage but I felt like she didn't really focus on any of the places I identified as needing attention. Told the masseuse I would like more pressure during massage, she did it briefly then went back to what she was doing before. The room I was getting massaged in was also extremely hot to the point where I began sweating. Overall... It was not relaxing at all. I've had better massages at cheap places and for a high end hotel and a massage at this price point, frankly I'm disappointed. The overall facility is okay if not run down. The steam rooms are great though. The customer service is good and the post massage relaxation room was nice. So there are def some pros but mostly cons so I would say skip this place entirely. read more

When I seen the groupon for a delux mani & pedi for Chuan spa I jumped at the offer. I'd only heard about how luxurious the Huntington was and assumed the spa was the same. In terms of luxury and relaxation I was not disappointed. As soon as I entered I felt relaxed. The scent, the music, the cosiness, it was all enticing. Staff were really polite and friendly. I was escorted to the ladies spa area and given my locker key. The locker contained a big soft robe, a towel and some spa shoes. The ladies locker room had plenty of lockers and a couple vanity stations kitted out with combs, hair brushes, hair dryers, cotton buds and cotton pads. The sink in the restroom had disposable shower caps and single use razor blades available. There was several showers with Chuan spa shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and shaving gel. Each shower was extremely private and had several towels laid out for use. Deeper into the ladies spa room was a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. There were several chairs surrounding the jacuzzi, a big dispenser of ice cold spa water, and a nice bowl of fruit. I was shown to the internal lounge area where the lady said I should wait prior to my treatment. This space had severe chairs and a spa water dispenser with some jars of dried fruit. Once my appointment time rolled around I was escorted by the lady who would be doing the manicures to the front of the spa where the salon was located. The treatment lasted approximately an hour. I picked a color for my toes and finger nails, there wasn't an enormous selection but it was fine. My groupon was supposed to include a complimentary glass of champagne with the manicures. But I wasn't offered it. I should have asked but I felt kind of awkward to do so because the salon was really quite. Upon check out my valet parking was validated and I received two spa passes to use another time. So why am I only giving this spa 3 stars then? Well, my manicure didn't last 24 hours before I had a couple of chips to the polish. Usually I get a couple of days before that will happen, so I was really disappointed. I was also disappointed that the lady who performed my manicure didn't offer me a drink (tea, coffee of water) during the entire treatment. As I wasn't free to get up and grab a drink myself I would have liked her to ask me if I needed anything. Maybe it just slipped her mind. This place is amazing. I started my spa day by taking a Pilates class with Theresa. She is a great instructor and the people in class are friendly. The class holds comfortably about 7-10 people. No one wears shoes to class and mats are provided. Grab a towel from the gym before class. I also had the most amazing massage with Ritu. Her hands are heavenly and she knows how to apply the right amount of pressure. She always checked if I was comfortable. The oils were the right temperature to feel comfortable. I continued to use the Dream room and took a 30 minute nap. The room is a bit cold but the robe they provide is cozy. read more

4.5 stars for first paid visit, I'm rounding up...pure luxury and bliss... I was actually venturing on the first leg of a much anticipated road trip to Central CA when I made it as far as an hour away and realized my super tense muscles needed some immediate attention and decided I needed some R&R close to home instead. I literally got my car off of the freeway and made a call to Chuan Spa and booked the only massage they had available for the rest of the day. A half hour time slot for massage was all they had-at $115 pre tax and tip, it was definitely not the best "bang for your buck massage package" but I was desperate, and in the end, the whole Chuan Spa experience was well worth it. I was thrilled to return to this location after a previous Yelp Elite Event which took place here some time back. DeAnte greeted me at the Spa front desk and actually recognized me from the YEE and welcomed me back, he is so nice! I was quickly whisked away to the women's locker room where I was provided a personal locker with robe, towel, and spa slippers. The first thing I did was jet straight towards the Jacuzzi to warm up my muscles before my massage. I had 15 minutes before the massage appointment and I almost fell into a relaxed coma right then and there in that hot tub surrounded by a beautiful mosaic tiled wall. While there, I downed about 3-4 glasses of iced cucumber/mint spa water to try and rehydrate from a day where I should have been hydrating more. All other patrons must have been in appointments because for that brief while I had the whole Jacuzzi/Spa area to myself and as it neared by appointment time I had to force myself out. I really, really did not want to leave, even for a massage, it was as if I had already almost accomplished my mission for being here. I ending up 5 minutes late to my appt, but no worries, I was in good hands. Coline my therapist met me on my way to the waiting room and provided a great half hour massage which surprisingly felt much longer than a half an hour. She used quite a bit of pressure per my request, and really worked on loosening up my tight muscles. After the massage she offered me either a glass of champagne or wine. When I told her I would just start by grabbing some cold water from over by the Jacuzzi she recommended warm water first and graciously offered me a cup of room temp water with several fresh lemon wedges and mint. She then walked me back to the area where the steam room and Jacuzzi are located and said she would be right back with a hot towel for my neck. She returned one final time with more towels which she set on a table should I need them...I felt like a Queen!!! The pampering and attention were beyond words, and so gracious! Coline recommended I take a 15 minute steam in the steam room and then a 15 minute Jacuzzi. I lasted about 10 seconds in the steam room, it was so incredibly hot and steamy...it just wasn't my thing but something I would like to work on liking in the future. I slipped back into the Jacuzzi for a few minutes when I witnessed another patron with repeated uncovered, uninhibited full blown sneezing, snorting and coughing-no joke!, having what sounded like a terrible upper respiratory cough and cold. Great...potential cough and cold germs being spewed into the steam I was also generously inhaling, exactly what I didn't need on my few day getaway. That pretty much snapped me out of my relaxed state, into the shower room, and out of the Spa wet hair and all-even though they have combs, blow dryers, etc. I was done. At the front desk, I unwrapped my head from the towel, paid my fees and gratuities, and I was on my way. With that said, I will most definitely be back to seek out some relaxation when I need to unwind again. I can't say enough about the beautiful and relaxing spa, its not huge but it feels luxurious and it is immaculate and clean and well appointed. The only thing I did not love, love, love were the shower gels/shampoos, they all smelled wonderful and definitely above average but my favorite Spa amenities, when I really want to indulge, are made by Kerstin Florian...I use them at home and when at the Spa at the Montage in Laguna Beach, and other Ritz Carlton and Marriot owned Spas, they just kick the whole shower/pampering experience into the next level of bliss. read more

Everyone who worked in the old Langham Spa were so rude and so arrogant, even their manager was really really rude and unprofessional as well!!! Under their new management the experience at Chuan Spa is not just amazingly good, it is almost surreal. Their new manager Mr. Deante is not only extremely friendly but is ever so professional as always. Under his successful management his whole team consisting of masseuse, aesthetician, receptionist, and employees who work in fitness area and lockers rooms are all very nice and professional as well! This feeling of being warmly greeted and welcomed by everyone each and every time I come to this spa is very gratifying! I love the Langham, everything about it... Except Chuan Spa. This is my second spa service received here and the first one was average at best ... However giving that the premises are gorgeous, I thought giving it a second chance with a different service I would have a different outcome. I was wrong ... They've changed the parking situation which changes the privacy feeling... Walking to and from the spa to the front of the hotel after a service is not as nice as having your car available in front of the spa. The spa amenities are average. Both spa service and spa amenities are average at best. Truly a bummer. read more

Came here on a special occasion to celebrate a birthday. I was in need of a massage and was always curious about the Chuan spa at the Langham. I stay at the Langham HK 4 times a year and the Spa is always usually fully booked, so decided to try the Pasadena one. The front reception was friendly and inviting. The 60-minute massage was mediocre and didn't really leave my body feeling relaxed or in a better place. More oily and hydrated yes, but I've had better massages where you feel reborn and brand new. Initially the pressure was painful and too hard. I asked for change in the pressure. A happy medium was never found and the rest of the 40 min felt like like someone was just rubbing lotion on me at a pool. Midway I wanted to ask if I could switch services to a facial, but I didn't want to be rude. The spa facility is smaller than expected compared to the size of the Langham hotel property. The jacuzzi is small and steam room was very small, not sure if there were other communal areas. The tour was very short, and in comparison the service at the Langham Hong Kong is MUCH better. Opportunity to improve here. Overall the experience was average, not the memory you're looking for on special occasions or if you're looking for a lux spa experience. I would suggest going to the Pelican Hill Spa Newport or Qua Spa in Cesars Palace (it's 20k Sq feet) if you're looking for a true luxury spa. read more

This was my first time at this spa and will be my last. My husband got me a gift card for Christmas. I was really excited because as a busy wife and mother, self care hasn't been a priority. I'm going to be fair in my review and mention both likes and dislikes. I really loved the valet parking and customer service upon arrival and check out. I was not as early as I would've liked and Karina was super nice. I loved the dream room after my treatments, the complimentary champagne was a plus as well. My massage was heavenly! I was so relaxed I even fell asleep. What I didn't like was the facility. For these prices the place wasn't plush enough. The amenities to me felt more like I was at the gym rather than a spa. I didn't use any of the amenities other than the dream room for that reason. The facial SUCKED! it felt a bit rushed and my face was so sticky at the end, I washed my face immediately when I got home. Overall it was a pleasant enough experience but grossly over priced. This spa has some nice wall decorations and everything seems very relaxed and clean and calm. The changing room was very small and most resting areas are very hidden. That I was not very impressed. The massage was so-so plus I think I slept half of the time so I didn't get to feel it that much. overall, I don't think I had a really great time. I checked the original price for the massage is actually $160. It's totally overpriced. However the groupon deal that I got gave me two spa passes to come back in the future to use the spa facility and the gym and the fitness classes. Everyone at the spa and the hotel itself is super professional and welcoming. The premises are well kept and look beautiful. The treatments are amazing and masseurs are well experienced. I bought the Groupon for $149 for 55 min Swedish massage. I went with 2 other girls. I had Brian for my massage. He was great! He asked you which areas he should focus on for the massage. He was wonderful with the feet!! Omg! My feet were in heaven. I had foot massages before but he was definitely the best foot massage I've ever had!!! I don't know if I would come back, it was kind of pricy! I'm not give 5 stars bc we were unable to use the pool. Only hotel guests were entitled to the pool. And they forgot to give me my pass for next time with the Groupon. I had to go back to ask for it. The inside spa was small, but clean and well kept. read more

I came here for my birthday,and was super excited to finally get a massage at this spa. I have been talking about coming to the spa for a few months and finally had the chance to come. The masseuse was very nice. The customer service is absolutely awful. Right after I got home from my massage my foot was hurting, I decided to give it a few days and see if the pain would stop. It didn't, so I called the spa to let them know and I left a message for the supervisor and was told they would call me back that afternoon, never received a call back. So I called a few days later because my foot was still hurting, left a message and the spa supervisor called me back. She said she would follow up with me in a few days to see how my foot was, never heard from her again! I'm so disappointed, I was so excited to bring my bridal party here for a relaxing massage day and have our wedding guests stay at the hotel too, Not now. read more

I am updating my review and adding a star. The follow-up Customer Service has been on point. The customer service supervisor reached out and let me go into detail about my experience. She seemed genuinely concerned that I did not have a wonderful experience at the spa. It's a small thing, but I appreciate the acknowledgment that all was not as it should have been. I have been here twice, both of them were groupons (one I purchase myself, and the second that was gifted to me for my birthday). I always try to be an excellent groupon customer- I tip on the full amount of the service (here, it would be $160 and I gave $40 because my therapist was kind and did something nice in recognition of my birthday). But this was not a good overall experience. The first time I came, my boyfriend and I got excellent massages, and then we got to relax in the Dream room with our complimentary glasses of champagne and we had some snacks they made available (you can choose tea or juice, too). This time we were dumped back in the waiting area where people pass by and there is no privacy so you're just hanging out in your robe. In the waiting area on the way in, I saw empty champagne flutes from previous clients next to the water station, which remained there after we were done. My therapist was a lovely woman, and she did find one knot in my neck, but my entire upper back was tight and full of knots that she did not locate. This was frustrating because I had a bit of a crick in my neck I was hoping to address. I was also in a smaller room this time, where the ac was pretty loud periodically. The therapist was very kind, and gave me birthday chocolates with my drink, which she did not have to and I greatly appreciated. But the service was not the same this time and I am deeply disappointed because this was a birthday gift and something I don't get to do regularly. My boss regularly purchases massages for his wife here, but I think I'm going to have to direct him elsewhere when he asks me to get her one next time because it just wasn't a good experience overall and it seems kind of sleazy to treat customers who come via groupon differently when they are supposedly purchasing the same service. Also, even with a Swedish massage- you should feel SOME relief with regard to tight muscles after. Instead I walked out frustrated and feeling like I wasted my money. read more
