Yesterday went for their soft opening of a gourmet Chinese cuisines restaurant which used to be called chaun Lu garden! It is nice and huge inside after being closed for a year for their renovation but the owner Joyce is so kind and and their staff is friendly too! We had a meeting in downtown Orlando and needed to find a place for lunch. We dropped into Chuan Lu Garden. Atmosphere: a large spacious old school Chinese restaurant with lots of pictures on the menu. Staff is really friendly. Food: we ordered: Fried Pork Chitterlings with Hot peppers -- while the flavors were spot on, the chitterlings were a little dry , ttough and chewy. 3/5 Fried Octopus - similar to the chitterlings, the flavors were good, but too much batter that makes the octopus a little too chewy and dry. 3/5 Tofu - the pungent sweet and sour sauce really overpowers the flavor of the tofu. 2/5 TL/DR: a good choice for authentic Zechuan food while you are in Downtown Orlando. read more

You know the saying, "If there are pictures of the food items on the menu, don't eat there," well with our experience tonight, it was 50/50. Chuan Lu Garden didn't have the best Chinese food I've ever had; however, our entrées were great. Nancy's Stir-fried steak with vegetables ($13.99) and my Kung Pao Chicken ($13.99) were excellent. The food was right out of the Wok - hot and delicious and the rice was perfectly cooked and sticky. On the flip side the small bowl of Egg Drop Soup ($3.99), even though larger than expected was watery. The Octopus Skewer ($7.99), did not represent what was in the photo, which is a total failure. The Octopus came out when we were about halfway through our meals and it was just so depressing. Only four little Octopus over seasoned with what I believe was Coriander and salt, very dry and chewy; it wasn't good at all. I thought for $7.99 I would have received two full skewers of octopus like the photo showed; don't waste your money on this! It wasn't too busy when we arrived, we were seated right away, our table and the restaurant were clean; however, the men's restroom needs some TLC. Our server, Rachael, was great, got us everything we needed and kept our drinks topped off. Chuan Lu Garden is a Szechuan Chinese restaurant that I've had on my to-try list for years for whenever I visit my family in Orlando. So when Chuan Lu Garden was proposed for dinner, I hopped on the opportunity. The restaurant is HUGE. From the front and even when you first enter, it doesn't appear to be until start walking through the restaurant. We had a group of 8 so we were seated at a large round table and we ordered quite an array of dishes to try. The menu is HUGE - over 20 pages of dishes/photos. While the photos are beautiful and helpful, it's hard to go through 20 pages of food/photos to settle on a final order. We ordered 8 dishes for our 8top. Everything we had was delicious - zero complaints all around. My favorites were the dongpo pork knuckle, the braised lamb belly, the sichuan style mouth watering chicken (cold), the jelly clear noodles in chili sauce and dry hot pot. The pan fried pork buns, salt and pepper large shrimp and sautéed veggies were also solid. Definitely a great option if you're bringing a large group to share in a Sichuan feast. If you're looking for looking for amazing food, with huge portions, and reasonable prices, this is THE place to be! We visited Chuan Lu at the lunch hour on a holiday, and it wasn't too busy (shocking once I get into how great the food was!) and we were sat immediately. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, but don't let that fool you. Their food is top tier, some of the best Chinese food I've ever had! We started with the wontons which were aaaamazing. I had tried them recently at their sister restaurant, Chuan Fu in Winter Park, and these are probably my favorite thing on the menu. Do yourself a favor.. and order these. We also tried the soup dumplings and they were pretty good! Almost burnt myself because they were so hot, but I did expect them to have a little more broth, and I ended up adding some chili oil to them to add some heat. Solid menu choice nonetheless! Now the entree.. I ordered their spicy chicken hand pulled noodle dish (the noodles are made in house!) and this dish was MASSIVE. Honestly it could feed an entire family, or at least 2-3 people. Huge portions, low price! It was around $14, giving you the most bang for your buck! I did have to wait a little while for the broth to cool down because it was sooo hot. But there were lots of veggies, noodles, and chicken. I asked for mine mild and ended up adding more chilli oil to it for some heat, so I think I could probably handle the normal spice level, but you are able to adjust it based on your preference. I had been hearing that this was one of the best Chinese restaurants in town for a little bit now, so one day when I needed takeout, I decided to stop here and get some stuffff. I placed my order online, and then came over here to pick it up. The thing about Chinese food, you never order as much as you should have. You always want more. That fact will never change. I forget exactly what I ordered, but I got like five things and then just dived in with the misses. The short time I was in the restaurant, it was absolutely beautiful. Obviously decorated to feel very upscale and like the restaurants you see in the movies. Huge tables in huge rooms with huge lazy Susans on them. Very neat. So anyway, I think we got some sesame chicken as a main dish. Beautiful, orange color with not too much broccoli thank goodness. Crispy, sticky, just good. No issues here. Then I got a few dim sum items. Some sticky rice in a banana leaf, some fried dumplings, some steamed fluffy buns, and some classic pork/shrimp shumai. The rice was ooey and gooey, which might not sound nice to an amateur, but trust me, it was very nice. The fried dumpling, maybe skip it. The fluffy buns were the epitome of what you want in a fluffy bun. Very succulent pork with a great sauce, just so good. And same for the shumai, textbook. Overall, no complaints. Dim sum is one of my favorite foods! They even had a robot to greet you and bring you your check when you're finished. I ordered a hot tea to start with, and it was very refreshing. The chive and shrimp dumplings were my favorite. The barbecue pork buns were loaded with meat and my family loved that. We ordered the spicy hot pot for the table and it was not my favorite. They used a lot of spicy peppers and you couldn't really taste the seasoning or the spice. It kind of just tasted like you were eating something very smoky. The dumplings in the chili sauce was a little disappointing. It lacked flavor and didn't taste fresh. We ended our meal with the lava buns and they were my second favorite. They were warm, fluffy, and the inside had a sweet yellow custard. It was a great way to end a meal! The restaurant was big, but there was a weird smell as soon as you walk in. We are huge fans of Chaun Lu at our house. Typically we dine in, and it's our tradition to visit pub Christmas Day. Service is always quick, and the food is fresh and delicious. I love the sour and spicy shredded potato dish, the Yang chow fried rice and the dan dan noodles. The La Zi chicken is a must try with the numbing sichuan peppers. The 3.5 star rating for this place is a travesty! This is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in Orlando serving a wide variety of regional styles. It is also very authentic with most of the menu being not Chinese American dishes. But you can still find your Beef and Broccoli, you just have to look a little harder to find it. Their entrees are more family style. Each entree is large enough for 2 meals. I would really recommend getting 1 entree per 2 people and then supplement with appetizers, soups, dim sum, and a vegetable dish. You will be stuffed! Everything is top notch and presented very well. One thing that is different that you may see at more authentic asian restaurants is that the food comes out when its ready. Not apps, then soups, then entrees. Not everyone's entrees at the same time. Literally, when it's cooked, it comes out. So you kind of pick at the food a little by little until everything arrives. So this could be weird and off putting to some. But this is just normal for some Asian places and perhaps one of the reasons the star rating isn't higher. Fun restaurant to visit with my family and young grand daughters. The service here is always good. My grand daughters especially enjoy the bao rolls (pork filled) and the egg drop soup. My favorite is the chicken fried rice but there are many entrees on the menu to satisfy everyone's cravings. Portion sizes are generous so there's enough to share or to take home for lunch the next day. Any time I've eaten here, the food is served fresh and hot in a timely manner. The prices are reasonable as well. The large goldfish pond and fountain keep my grand daughters occupied while waiting for a table. The hostess gives my grand daughters some fish food to feed the fish which delights the girls. The robot that delivers the check to the table is also a novelty to see. The restaurant could use some upgrades, particularly the rest rooms. The facilities are clean but very dated. This restaurant has become one of our family's favorite when we're in town. We ordered on the phone while driving and the servers had our table set up and the food ready the minute we walked in. The have robot servers to take your dirty plate which was pretty neat. The noodles were fresh and the soup delicious Cons: the roasted duck was dry. The skin was crispy but I felt the meat was too dry and did not have the juicy profile roasted duck usually has. We first came to love Chuan Lu Garden when they opened a second location closer to us. We knew from our first visit that this was authentic Chinese and frequented it often until it closed. But just because our location closed, that doesn't mean we can just live without their amazing Sichuan Wontons, so we have made the short ride to the Mills 50 area to go to their original location. Craving all things Sichuan last week, we found ourselves at Chuan Lu and every dish was new to us aside from the wontons. We ordered a cold noodle appetizer, pork buns (had elsewhere, but never here) and an amazing beef dish that was so flavorful and the perfect amount of spiciness. Wow, their pork buns were soooooooo good. I highly recommend getting the Sichuan wontons any time you go. And take your time checking out the menu. There are so many options including the "American" Chinese dishes, but the real appeal is in getting to try something you'd never see on the menu at 90% of the Chinese places in town. One of my first jobs as a teenager was working as a hostess at a long standing Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh. Every night the kitchen prepared a huge meal for the whole front and back of house towards the end of the night. There was never any General Tso's, Pork Lo Mein, or anything I'd eaten before. This was the first time I ever experienced or realized that everything I'd eaten before was just the typical dishes we see served here to cater to our preferences. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and some try something here that you've never heard of. There are pictures of most (if not all) of the dishes so you can get a pretty good idea of what you're getting into. And if you're not sure, ask your server. They're very friendly and accommodating. This is one of our favorite Chinese Restaurants at which to dine. There used to be a Chuan Lu Garden in East Orlando (soon to be a Jollibee) and we used to patronize that location pretty often. The location close to the Mills/50 intersection and although it might not look like you can park easily, there's a decent sized lot in the back. They know how to flavor their food. If you are tired of bland food, eat here. The Szechuan Wontons are some of the best in the area. When we get in the mood for these, this is one of our choices. You get about a dozen dumplings in a moderately spicy Szechuan pool of oily red lusciousness. I'm glad there are 12 as if there was an odd number, there would have been a fight for the last one. Once I discovered Mapo Tofu on a trip to NYC, I had to find it in Orlando. I tried a few other places and many missed the mark (sorry Peter's Kitchen), but Chuan Lu does it right! I've ordered without Pork to make it meatless and it is still so satisfying and flavorful. They have so many options we want to try. Everything from amazing appetizers, BBQ skewers, a variety of soups, hot pots, dumplings, noodle dishes, frog legs, pork elbows, tofu pudding, fish, shrimp and so many dishes you're not going to find at your run-of-the-mill local takeout joint. Just look at the pictures of this place and you know you're getting authentic Chinese cuisine, or at the very least, non-americanized. Pros: They offer dim sum. Any place that offers the usual stuff And dim sum has my heart. Their fluffy buns are extremely fluffy, and there was ample amounts of pork inside, very yummy. We got take-out, and for each item, they had appropriate, unique to-go boxes for every thing. Very nice. Cons: I enjoyed the sesame chicken, but it tasted just a little too hole-in-the-wall and not enough elevated restaurant. That's just nitpicky, though. Everything was really delicious! My husband and I have dined her several times and it's a real testament that it is the only Chinese restaurant in Orlando that we just keep coming back to. There is a lot of variety on the menu, so whatever you are looking for you can likely find. I've had spicy Szechuan style dishes (Chongqing chicken) and others that were incredibly flavorful with no "heat" at all (lemon chicken). Everything I've had here has been really good. Dan Dan noodles are a favorite. Last time I was here I had the beef soup with noodles and it blew my mind. I did a study abroad in China years ago and with the first bite of that soup I was transported back to XIan. It tasted just like the soup I had there. It was crazy. After I returned from China I couldn't eat American Chinese food for about a year. This soup was the first thing I've had in years that really tasted like the food I ate while there. It was so awesome. As for the rest, there is ample seating inside, but they do a great takeout business too. There is some parking behind the building as well. Highly recommend. read more

I visited with friends for dinner and had a great experience! There was plenty of seating, and the staff were very kind and even open to speaking in Mandarin Chinese. We loved the cute robots that escorted us to the table and brought the check. We ordered the eggplant ($13), garlic pea shoots ($15), and many dim sum dishes ($4-6 each) which overall tasted delicious. The pea shoots were flavorful and not too salty, but they were hard to chew and could be cooked longer. The soup dumplings/xiaolong bao were difficult to eat because the bottom parts got stuck to the tiny dishes they sat in. We also had to ask for condiments like soy sauce and chili oil. Overall, the food tasted decent, and we were impressed with the menu and the huge variety. I will definitely be back to try other things! On my first trip to China I was shocked to know that in the USA we don't eat much that is truly Chinese. Cooking in Chinese cities and in the countryside is far more complex. After returning I couldn't eat "American" Chinese food for nearly a year. I can cook and was able to get some recipes but sometimes you just want to go out and get some food, right? Another Yelper gave me a tip recently to check this place out on E Colonial. When I arrived I was warmly greeted and seated in a comfy booth. This is a very nice restaurant and I got a booth right next to a statue of a horse and driver. My drink order was taken and promptly delivered. For my meal I ordered hot and sour soup and Peking duck. My soup arrived in a reasonable amount of time and boy it looked and smelled wonderful. To my further delight it was very spicy but not so much where it defeated the sour. Too many hot and sour soup is not spicy at all. It was packed with tasty ingredients and to date the closest to what I ate in Beijing. Peking duck is one of my favorites and in China there are a few places still in business today that have been specializing in this dish for over a hundred year to nearly 600 years. Did I expect the same quality, no but they did deliver quality. My duck came with bao buns, scallions, cucumber, and hoisin sauce. The duck itself had wonderful color, juicy, and the skin was very crispy. After my meal my check was delivered by their handy server robot. It brings, drinks, food, and checks while playing music and when it gets to your table it talks to you. A great experience and later this week I will be back to dive deeper into their specialties that you don't find on many other menus. The do have the usual stuff too and I hear they do it well. I have been here two times now. And i just love the personality and charm it holds. Such a wide range of options for food from classics to more daring options. Definitely feels like a time capsule stuck in the early 2000s but that's sort of what I love about it. Never a wait and had the same server twice who is always hustling and has a great personality. Probably the best Chinese food I've had in Orlando. It's comparable to the quality of food you might find in San Francisco. The prices are also all reasonable for their size. The orange chicken was delicious, so were the baked pork buns. The steamed pork and cabbage dumplings were not my favorite, but I could see them being better if they were pan fried. I absolutely love their mapo tofu! If you can't handle spicy things well like me, you can request for them to make it mild, and it'll be just right. Sorry but no. I've eaten here twice, and that's enough for me. I tried to place an order through phone but the number yelp has on here is incorrect, so I ended up arriving and placing a to go order. They told me it would be a 30 minute wait and I ended up waiting 50 minutes. That is the longest I've ever waited for a to go order; absolutely ridiculous. It was only for a single braised eggplant order, so its not as if it were for a big order. If the food had been great than maybe I wouldn't have been as critical but it was normal, nothing worth waiting 50 minutes for. No eating utensils, no napkins, not even a fortune cookie. By the way, while I was waiting for my food, I saw two different groups of people arrive and leave about 20 minutes later when nobody came by to tend to them. Second time visiting. Got 2 lunch specials. Actually pretty pricey for what you get. Chicken and broccoli, different flavor than your standard but seemed like a small portion. Wonton soup was okay, nothing amazing. The spring roll was good, extra crispy, but the filling was interesting felt like mashed potatoes and not the standard cabbage. Husband ordered mapo tofu lunch. Tofu was great had a good heat and really enjoy the peppercorn only issue is ordered the hot and sour soup and it wasn't in the order. We ordered for pick up and didn't check the order, foolish. I immediately grabbed the dim sum menu and I was so surprised to see such a variety of items. We ordered wonton soup and about 4 dim sum items. They were pretty good but my favorite were the pork buns. You can never judge a book by it's cover but the food was really good, service was excellent, and we will definitely visit again! First of all, great service. Super attentive. I love that there's a cute boba bar by the front entrance with bar seats. The koi pond is nice, could use some update and maybe more water. As for the foods, I had their pork boa and plum juice once at a culture festival and they were pretty good, so I figured I'll come and try the actual restaurant. I was glad that they were offering BOGO boba tea, BUT only 4 kinds of tea had the bogo deal; classic milk, honey milk, orange tea, & peach tea. No mix & match. Both the classic and the honey milk tea were bland compare to other milk tea I had. And, the boba it comes with is not the brown tapioca kind, it's crystal agar agar. Most of the food we ordered tasted ok. The dan dan noodle were lacking in flavor and none traditional toppings. I couldn't taste any sesame, mainly just salty with no preserved veggie or peanuts. The noodle texture was good though. The satay tripe, I didn't noticed the satay, just bit of saltiness. The soup dumpling were not soupy. I liked the roast duck, nice crispy skin and not overly salty. Shrimp dumplings and shumai pieces were big with fillings. I kind of hoped for better because I brought other family members along with my own. But it's cool that with 9 of us dining, they didn't automatically charged us tips, other places would have. read more

We just left Chuan Lu Garden after another fabulous meal, dinner this time and we left with happy bellies and happy hearts. My bestie asked my husband, what is my most favorite restaurant in the area and he told her Chuan Lu Garden. So they brought me here to celebrate my birthday month. Yes, I love this place not just for the delicious food but for the extremely warm hospitality. Since it is Saturday today I found out our favorite hostess Brenda is not working today. Joyce was our server today and my gosh, what a pleasant and kind human being she is! It was raining out; she saw my husband was soaking wet as he dropped us off at the door, parked and came in so right away she gave him a towel to dry off. My daughter was not feeling too well so hubby wanted to go to a drug store to pick something for her, Joyce walked him out the door to show him exactly where CVS was. When my friends arrived my husband was worried about where they parked but Joyce walked out with them to assure them that where they parked was perfectly fine. She gave us plenty of time to decide what to order and made some helpful suggestions to our usual favorites. We ordered quite a bit of food today and she brought us everything we needed. Food was delicious as always. She knows my kids loves the Robot kitty so she sent him to our table for the second time. Finally when we had walked out of the restaurant, she came running behind us and brought my favorite pair of sunglasses that I had forgotten in my chair!
