I gotta preface this and say my dad had a Chinese American restaurant when I grew up (northeast), so I'm PICKY AF with where I get Chinese American. Honestly, I avoid it most of the time, not because it's not what I crave, but because I can't find a place that's as similar to my childhood as I used to get all the time growing up. I've tried a few places in Orlando, and I've always been disappointed. But this place. My gawd. It's like I'm a kid again! The vibes are a bit different, so as long as you don't want to have a sit down meal, this place is great, and generally affordable. Service is always nice from the lady that takes it at the front - it's definitely a family owned restaurant (saw a boy doing his homework one Friday night, that was basically me when I was a kid!) Some highlights for me: - Chicken Wings. Nice and crispy, with a good layer of batter, and fairly large. Flavor is good, with a hint of ten spice - Lo Mein. The STAR of China Star IMO. Flavor is well balanced, portions are good, egg noodles are chewy and delicious. Only complaint is price is pretty expensive for a quart of noodles, but inflation, amirite? - General Tso's / Sesame / Orange Chicken. If you didn't already know, it's the same base chicken and sauce, with one minor ingredient added for the Orange/Sesame. Regardless, we're looking at the chicken and base sauce here. It's identical to what my dad did - nicely fried, juicy chunks, lathered in a thick, tangy-sweet sauce. - Beef and Broccoli - pretty standard here, solid choice. Beef is tender, broccoli is more al dente (normal in most places, if you want it to be overcooked you may be able to request that if you mention it). Also, their lunch special is one of the few places you can get filled up under $10. It's better than McDs. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good and cheap weekday spot for lunch! It even comes with a nice can of soda (guilty pleasure). read more

Would not order again from here. First time here, arrived and waited a bit in the dirty restaurant with no A/C, all good. Ordered chicken fried rice....only contained what looked like yellow rice inside. Egg rolls were not fully cooked, looked wet inside. the cream cheese wontons and egg drop soup were just ok. A group of us ordered some takeout from here as it's close to my friends' home. It's your typical Chinese takeout joint, small on the inside, similar menu. I chose house fried rice and wonton soup. My boyfriend ordered General Tso's combo which comes with fried rice and an egg roll. Our friends ordered kung pao beef and sweet and sour chicken. Portions are large, pretty comparable to other spots around town. I liked their wonton soup; it was a bit better than some others I've had. The rice was average for me as was my taste of the General Tso's chicken (not heavy on spiciness so if you prefer mild versions it should be good for you.) Overall, nothing wowed, but everything was perfectly fine. It's an okay spot and I'd be fine ordering again if nearby. read more

Was good enough, in your ordinary strip mall pedestrian Chinese food kind of way. I'm convinced I could have been drugged and blindfolded and dropped in any other similar such place anywhere USA and not known the difference. From the menu or the lobby, could have been in a parallel universe! So anyway, a friend likes them so I drove across town to give them a shot annnd ....he's fired from making recommendations lol. 2 stars is for the big shrimp only, otherwise a 1 star for me. Ordered delivery directly through them and the communication barrier is HORRIBLE! She rushed through taking the order, gave the driver the wrong address and the food was wrong. I told the delivery guy 3 times and texted him, the correct address and still had a lady from the location he was at call me. He delivers the food and sees I didn't add a tip to the cc form and asks, "no tip". Naw, I have cash homey... I ordered shrimp with broccoli with extra well done Broccoli and fried rice. I received Broccoli fresh out the produce section and white rice... and its bland. Ugh. China Star was consistently recommended to me and finally tried it. It was some of the best Chinese food I've found in Orlando. I had no intentions on ordering the General Tso Chicken but after reading the reviews, I was convinced to order it. It was super delicious; spicy and tangy and the chicken was crispy. Two thumbs up! As far as Chinese take-out goes, it's pretty standard. There are about 5-6 tables inside, but I've never eaten here. This is one of those shame meals where you don't want anyone to see you eat it outside of your house with some Netflix on. They have the usual selection of boxed Chinese food and I tend to order the orange chicken, sesame chicken/beef, or sweet and sour. Their pork eggs rolls are pretty good and only like $1.50/ea. I always get their Krab Rangoon as an appetizer also. It's nothing fancy, but that's not why you get cheap Chinese. However I do keep coming back. read more

Checked out China Star on Curry Ford and it's a solid choice for Chinese takeout. The General Tso's Chicken was flavorful, and the fried rice was on point. Quick service and reasonable prices, but the ambiance is more geared towards takeout than dine-in. read more

This is my favorite Chinese spot! They have shrimp egg rolls, which are absolutely delicious. Tonight, I enjoyed the chicken and broccoli with white rice, and the bourbon chicken with white rice. Both were very delicious! The broccoli was crisp and fresh in the chicken with broccoli. The bourbon chicken was juicy and flavorful. They quoted my wait time to be 15 mins, and it was ready to go in less than that. Also, the set up they have for ordering/picking up is very proactive when it comes to COVID. This is located in a Winn-Dixie shopping mall on Curry Ford Road and upon walking in my daughter and I were greeted with a friendly wave. We took a moment to peruse the menu and made our selections and waited for our items to be prepared to go. To say this place is spartan is kind. This place has definitely seen better days.it definitely could use a facelift. When we got home, we tore into our meals and honestly were disappointed. The food was blah and uninspired. The egg rolls were pretty awful. The curry chicken had a weird aftertaste. Everyone else had nothing good to say about their meals. I would not go hear the reviews for this place were very mixed, but I thought that I would give it a shot because of the area I'm in that area pretty often. So I got shrimp lo mein lunch special. The noodles were a two out of 10 It really should be a one but I am Being nice I guess and I was hungry at the time. They were edible, but I did notice that the guys in the back do not wear gloves. It just seemed a little dirty the place inside I mean it's your typical China place, but was definitely not the best. I would not recommend the shrimp tasted really disgusting, and very weird as if it was dipped in cleaning product. It was extremely disgusting. I tried one and I thought maybe it was just that one but no I tried another one and I wanted to throw the whole thing out but I already paid for it but I will never go back there. This is a solid, cheap Chinese takeout spot. We got sweet and sour chicken, spicy shredded pork, and orange chicken. The orange chicken was great, sweet and sour was your basic sweet and sour, and the pork had good flavor but barely any pork. Ultimately, you're coming to a place like this for decent food with ease, speed, and a good price. This place hits all those spots, and I also find the employees fairly friendly. read more

This is the first time I've stopped in since the name change. The old place in this location, Mayflower, was so bad I was afraid to go back for a long time. Now this isn't gourmet Chinese, it's just your typical neighborhood "New York Style" takeout joint. Its well worn and a little greasy, but not too bad either. My take out lunch of beef and vegetables with rice was tasty though, and I'd order it again. A couple of regular customers came in while I was there and they looked pretty healthy. This is an awesome place, as long as you don't expect anything fancy. It's the five-star version of a typical Chinese takeout place. They even deliver if you live close by! Our family has a vegan, vegetarian, and an omnivore in the same house and China Star makes us all happy! I recommend the veggie lo mein, and I've been told their beef dishes are excellent too! I come here all the time. Normally my boyfriend orders the food and I stay in the car but today I decided to go in myself. I see a family going in and out the restaurant but I don't think much of it. I go to order my food, The lady takes my order and doesn't even look at me the whole time (once again that didn't bother me) I told her Im paying through Apple Pay instead of card and I pay she gives me no receipt and continues taking phone calls so I just walk away awkwardly and wait outside in my car for my food. After sometime i decide to go inside and see if my food is ready. She tells me nothing so I sit and wait. Out of no where the family waiting outside comes inside and starts telling me that the owner told them I used their card to buy my food. I look at the owner and tell her, you saw me use Apple Pay and she walks away and says she doesn't know. My boyfriend comes in (who orders regularly here) and then she goes "no I know them they didn't steal it" this was the most unprofessional moment I have ever seen.
