Hands down, one of the worst restaurant meals I've ever had. The food was genuinely bad, the…read moreservice was inattentive, the dining room felt dated and disorganized, and the prices were completely disconnected from the experience. We visited on a Tuesday around 6 p.m. with a party of four for a birthday. The restaurant wasn't busy, so there really wasn't an obvious reason for what followed. The meal started with bread that was lukewarm, hard, and forgettable, served with oil and what looked like dried minced garlic. Someone in our party tried to order a beer, and the server said they only had two or three of the dozen or so beers listed. Things only got worse from there. I ordered a French 75 and eventually received...something. It arrived after the appetizers, in the wrong glass, over ice, with no champagne and no detectable gin. It tasted like sparkling lemonade. I politely asked for it to be remade and even offered to speak with the bartender if it would help. The replacement never arrived. The calamari came out on sloppy-looking plates, and one order was pale while the other was dark enough to suggest it had been fried in old oil. Neither was particularly hot, and the breading barely stayed attached. The entrees looked just as uninspired as they tasted. The linguini with clam sauce was gray and soupy. The fish came with vegetables that were cooked to death. My eggplant parmesan was buried in bland marinara, and the gnocchi was room temperature, rubbery, and completely flavorless. The marinara itself tasted like watered-down canned tomatoes that had forgotten salt existed. Service was just as disappointing. Water glasses sat empty for most of the meal, our server was nearly impossible to flag down, no one checked on the remade cocktail, and by the time we finally got someone's attention, it was only because the host happened to notice us trying to get the check. We would have considered dessert, but the server disappeared long enough that we gave up. To top it off, the incorrect cocktail was still on the bill, bringing the total to around $250. One final observation: I watched the host reset tables by placing glasses, linens, menus, salt and pepper shakers, and table tents directly on chair seats. They also carried clean drinking glasses by inserting their fingers inside them. The open kitchen visible from the dining room didn't inspire much confidence, either. I've had better meals at chain restaurants for a fraction of the price. For roughly $250, this wasn't just disappointing--it was astonishingly poor. Nothing about this is authentic italian. Nothing about it is worth the price tag. Nothing about it was redeemable.

Dario's Ristorante is a pleasant modern family-run Italian restaurant on old Main Street in…read moreFitchburg MA, open every evening starting at 4pm. (Apr 2026) For dinner, we had a baby-spinach salad with crushed walnuts, moist dried cranberries, crumbled gorgonzola, and sweet zingy raspberry vinaigrette. And rich tender spinach, basil, and tomato tortellini, in a creamy garlic sauce. Their Mussels Fra-Diavlo were fresh tender and juicy, sauteed in garlic olive oil, with crushed red peppers and rich Pomodoro sauce. We loved their brightly-flavored chicken piccata, pan-sautéed in light fresh-tasting olive oil, with white-wine lemon-butter sauce, tasty little capers, and melt-in-your-mouth artichoke hearts. Served over creamy risotto. So good! Our server, Maybelline is the nicest best ever, with a great sense of humor. We were happy to see Dario's busy in the early evening on a Friday (Apr 2026). Their dishes are so good, each perfectly prepared and delicious. They rival any we've had in that big Olde Towne on the harbor :-). We hope that Dario's Ristorante is part of a resurgence of good food spots in this part of town.

Was in town visiting family from my home on the West Coast. I live in Napa where "excellent"…read morerestaurants are a dime a dozen. I can honestly say this place matches and exceeds many of the restaurants I've dined at in Napa, California. This place is a jewel and I hope it keeps on running here in downtown Fitchburg. I got the haddock special which was cooked to perfection and on a bed of spinach, tomatoes, and excellent pasta. Other items ordered at our table, included the muscles, which were excellent, two muscle options were available that night. The scallops were also very good and also served on a bed of pasta. The Caesar salad I ordered was excellent and loaded with anchovies, which I love. However, others may want to hold the anchovies, but that's just how I like it. I'd come back for the Caesar salad alone. Excellent cocktails across the bar at a reasonable price. Very good wine list again with good pricing. Perhaps the only negative thing I could say is the corkage fee was $35 which is a little bit high even for California pricing. However, overall, the pricing here is very good and fair. We were here on a Monday night so they were not busy and service was excellent. This is a local gem and I definitely would recommend and hopefully will return soon!
