My family has been coming here for 20 years, ever since we moved to the area. We've always ordered two pizzas, including the Kickin' Chicken when it was added to the menu. Usually for takeout, but I've ordered it in the restaurant too. I've never been so disappointed by the food since the previous owners sent out burnt pizza. Before even picking up a slice, I noticed what looked like small pools of oil. I thought it was just from the cheese, but when I picked up a slice, everything slid off and the crust seemingly disintegrated. I've never seen anything like it. When I brought it up, they said it might've been a result of the pizza having come out of the oven recently or there being too much hot sauce. When my mom first started making pizza at home, she added too much tomato sauce. Yes it came out watery, but I've never seen the cheese and crust melt away. I don't know what happened here, but the potential reasons they gave me didn't add up. In addition to that, the prices. Woof. The calamari was good, but for $16, I expect a larger portion and for it to not be half peppers. The fish and chips were darker than expected, and not good for $22. The portion just wasn't there for a typically cheap dish. The server we had was lovely though. She and the manager were apologetic and understanding. When we first moved to Brookline 15+ years ago we fell in love with Chrysanthi's and used to go almost every week. After they remodeled and expanded, the prices got much higher with no change in the menu (other than that there was now a bar), but even though it didn't seem like such a good value for the money any more, we still went quite frequently, because the food was still pretty good and we wanted to support our local place. Then one evening I ordered the special of the day, mousakka, and it was stone cold in the middle. I realized that they'd probably just microwaved it from frozen - unforgivable for a place charging fancy-restaurant prices (and for the special of the day!) We had a couple more slightly disappointing experiences - never terrible, but not like it used to be - and just stopped going. Recently we thought we'd try again. But we looked at the menu and we were shocked at how expensive it was now. Even a plate of pasta is over $30. Don't even think about ordering any seafood dishes - given they're all presumably $40-$50, given that even pasta is $30+. But then, I don't actually know, because the prices aren't listed on the menu - everything is "M.P." (market price), not just stuff like lobster and clams, but even just salmon or haddock. Sorry, salmon and haddock prices aren't so incredibly volatile that you can't list a price on the menu and absorb the minor fluctuations. And, look, prices for seafood varied a bit back in the day too, but Chrysanthi's didn't use to have any problem with putting a fixed price on the menu even for more expensive stuff like, say, fried clams. Market conditions haven't changed - the "M.P." stuff is psychology: a way for a restaurant to seem more upscale than it really is, and even more, an excuse to get you to ask the price, and then they hope you'll be too embarrassed to say no, never mind, that's too much. Here's the thing. I know everything has gotten more expensive now, but there are plenty of excellent restaurants in nearby towns that don't charge anywhere near $30-$50 for entrees. Chrysanthi's, while it's not bad (except for missteps like the microwaved frozen mousakka) is just not such an incredibly special place to justify prices like that. It's a neighborhood joint, not a super-fancy night out. I know, I know, COVID, inflation, blah blah blah - but why can I get stuffed haddock or a salad with salmon or fried clams one town over (in either direction on Rt.13) for literally half the price that Chrysanthi's is charging for essentially the same dishes? And, I might note, without having to ask what the "market price" is? Trust me, these places are not significantly better either from an atmosphere or a cooking point of view. They're more expensive than they were pre-COVID, but they're not twice as expensive as they were. Chrysanthi's is. So, sadly, as much as we'd love to keep coming to our local place, we're not likely to go back - not unless they abandon their fancy big-city restaurant prices. It's just not worth it. read more

I must say that this little gem in Brookline is worth the drive because between the selection of food on the menu which is large and the quality of the food especially the fried seafood combos are amazing. In addition the servers are so friendly and always a big smile from everyone. The vibe is a country vibe style restaurant which is quaint and inviting. One of the top area establishments for sure but get there early because if you get there after 5 pm it gets very busy! read more

Super clean and organized. Bright dining room, they have both tables and booths. This restaurant is handicap accessible. Friendly staff and prompt. Went for lunch with a friend and we both had excellent meals. The menu offers some standard fare plus several Greek specialties. I tried the Spanakopita and a Greek salad and it was delicious. We understand prices are increasing with everything these days, However, $12.95 for 4 small pieces of toasted garlic bread bruschetta was crazy! Half that price would have been reasonable. So, we showed up right at 8:05 tonight; (7/3/25) and we're told they closed at 8. HOWEVER. Evan, the owner, came out and said they have a table and plenty of people in there so they have room for 2 of us to come in and eat. SO NICE!!!! Marianna was our waitress and she was amazing. Food was so good and fast. Then We got to chat with Maggie and Brynn during our desert and they were so sweet to remind me of some names for my review. We had been traveling for over an hour, enjoying the fall foliage and planning to eat at a specific restaurant--only to find it was closed. After a quick Google search, we came across this place, expecting more of a casual deli. What a happy surprise! We ended up having a truly lovely dining experience. Our waitress--her name started with a "V"--was fantastic. She was incredibly attentive, had a great personality, and helped guide us through the menu, especially with the specials. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were all so pleased--not only with our meals, but with the entire atmosphere and service. Our only regret? That we don't live closer! read more

We ordered a steak sub with extra cheese and a Rueben with eggplant fries for pickup. The fries were a new item they had. As you can see from the photo, there was hardly any cheese and the eggplant fries were burnt and soggy. The Rueben had good flavor but personal preference, I wish the meat wasn't chopped because it kept falling out and made it difficult to eat. Customer service was good. Food was average. read more

I see some of the reviews knocking food, service and I can say we have been here many times and have never had any issues. Had lemon soup, a classic, lamb kabobs, all excellent. The Greek salad that was with it was a REAL Greek salad, there is no lettuce in that and cukes are diced not sliced. Our waitress was fantastic, the ambiance is very casual. I understand that sometimes things can be off on a bad day, it's happened to us. I do not rate a place on one visit, if I have a not great experience, I'll try again.
