This is what we had done: the living room ceiling repaired, reinforced, and plastered; the walls in the living room, kitchen, halls, and bathroom re-plastered and painted; soundproofing done on one long wall in the living room and one kitchen wall; custom closet doors built and installed; one of the closet interior shelving units adjusted; the tub reglazed; the kitchen cabinets raised; the old kitchen floor taken out and replaced with a Moroccan encaustic cement floor; a new sink plumbed; a handmade ceramic tile backsplash installed; outlets and under-cabinet lights added in the kitchen; a new counter top and fridge installed. If you've done this before or know anyone else who has, you are probably aware that finding a good contractor is like finding the holy grail... there are so many nightmare stories about people who don't show up, who take your money and leave you hanging, and who do a crummy job. This was our experience 11 years ago when we first bought our apartment and we definitely did not want to go through that again. Thankfully we found Chronos Contracting! Peter is great! When he first came to take a look at our place he noticed we have shoes on a mat in the hall and asked if he should take his off before entering. That told us immediately that this guy is paying attention and really cares about people's homes! After talking about what we wanted done and hearing his ideas we had a good feeling about him and decided to go with Chronos although we had gotten a lower bid from someone else. We are extremely happy with our decision and I can say unequivocally that we more than got our money's worth because Peter went above and beyond in so many ways. He is incredibly conscientious and knowledgeable, had great suggestions, and his attention to detail is impressive. One of the things we needed done was sound proofing, and it was really nice to know that Peter had experience with the very solution we had come up in our own research. For the Moroccan encaustic cement tile installation, he did his due diligence and consulted with the manufacturer before proceeding. He also checked in with us all the time to make sure we were happy with the way things were going, and he threw in little extras here and there. We added a bunch of stuff to our original work request but all went very quickly and without any hassle. His crew is great also... really nice guys who care about their work. After meeting with SO many highly rated and/or personally referred contractors, I had no trouble choosing Chronos Contracting to complete my logistically complicated commercial office buildout. From the first phone call Peter Demos demonstrated a clear understanding of the unique details of the job, specifically the importance of soundproof walls for my medical buildout (fyi there are a bunch of contractors out there who don't know from soundproofing). He also identified (and fixed!) a heating/cooling problem within the space that never would have occurred to me. The crew completed everything in record time and with preternatural neatness. I swear to god they cleaned the toilet on the regular. And those are just a couple of examples of extreme above and beyond. Almost dally, Peter's creative (dare I say elegant?) solutions met each structural, logistical, and financial roadblock head on and, in absolutely every case, succeeded beautifully and with my tight budget in mind. Amazingly, this was all done within the wholly unreasonable timeline of 4 weeks. The completed project is of such high quality that it defies the criticism of the even the most enthusiastic naysayers. To quote one particularly curmudgeonly tenant, "I keep looking for things that were done wrong but they aren't there". So sorry, curmudgeonly tenant. Better luck next time. We hired Peter Chronos of Chronos Contracting for a renovation of our Brooklyn Heights prewar two bedroom 1,000 sq ft apt that hadn't been updated in roughly sixty years. Peter and his team do excellent work, are honest and timely. They were able to update the electrical and plumbing throughout, completely renovate the kitchen and the bathroom, did extensive work on the plaster walls (which exceeded our expectations) and refinished the original floors. They worked hard to maintain many of the original details (picture moldings, ceiling moldings, radiators, and many small prewar details that we loved). For the areas that were too damaged to be repaired, Peter was able to match the moldings and repair work to fit the original look. We chose to design the kitchen and bathroom and source many of our own materials. Peter was helpful in referring us to good reliable and honest vendors and was a patient and agreeable collaborator as we coordinated delivery of materials, appliances and fixtures. Peter always made himself available to discuss the project and address any questions, comments or concerns we had; often walking us through and explaining some of the more challenging parts of the process. He was also conscientious of working neat, clean and respectfully within the guidelines and parameters set by the building. We will definitely hire Peter again someday. read more

Peter and his team were wonderful to work with from beginning to end! They were prompt, reliable, highly professional, and did superb work. In our apartment, they tore down and rebuilt a closet, making it much larger and nicer. They also painted three separate rooms, which required a lot of cleaning and sanding prior to painting. Finally, they removed a portion of wall from the kitchen, making the space much brighter and more open. From the time we had a thorough proposal (within 24 hours of our first meeting) to the time the work was completed, we had no complaints. At every step along the way, we had helpful conversations about the project. Peter made suggestions based on his extensive knowledge, but he always listened to what we wanted and made sure everything was done seamlessly. The apartment was completely transformed thanks to the talent and craftsmanship of Peter and his colleagues at Chronos Contracting. This was an all-around great experience. From the first emails and phone calls, Peter was very responsive and available to answer questions or provide information. He sent a detailed pricing breakdown beforehand, so I knew what his quote was based on - I'd say the cost was in the ballpark of what we were expecting for NYC commercial space. He was also reliable, polite and respectful of our office space. Throughout the job and afterward, Peter checked in to make sure everything was meeting our standards and let me know he'd be happy to address any concerns. They did great work and were fair and transparent about the entire process, even when the timeline got pushed back slightly.
