I would highly recommend Shafayet and his team at Multi Construction. The job was an extensive gut and renovation of a 100+ year old five story building. The work included structural work to repair / replace old decaying beams and to add new support beams. The work included the relocation of 2 full new kitchens; all new internal plumbing; an upgraded electrical system; and the installation of split air conditioning systems throughout all 5 floors. The millwork / finishing / painting done by his team were meticulous, and we ended up 2 beautiful new apartments - a triplex with 2 bedrooms 2 baths, and a duplex with 2 bedrooms / 2 baths. Shafayet was always responsive to our inquiries / requests and provided solutions to the many problems that were encountered in a project of this size. He also coordinated well with the architect and third party vendors that were involved in this project too. Our brownstone coop hired Multi to paint the building and repair the wooden molding. Their price was competitive , but what really made us appreciate Multi was that they always did what they said. Their hands-on owner, Shafayet, was responsive and fully transparent, and even asked for a meeting when he sensed a disconnect regarding our expectations and the treatment we chose. For credibility we might say that his people are skilled, but that it's important to take care to monitor scaffolding people, whom Multi doesn't directly supervise. Multi Construction completed a gut renovation of our home that had not been renovated since the 1960s. Shafayet and his crew did a truly amazing job, and I am so thankful for all their time, care, and commitment to making our house special and beautiful. This was a big job. We installed 2 new kitchens, 2 new bathrooms, rebuilt the back wall of our house to add large windows, added a deck, skylights, and a bunch of other things in between. At every step, Shafayet worked hard to make sure the house turned out perfectly. I have nothing but the best things to say about our new home and the care Multi put in to make it right. Long overdue review for Multi-construction Co. I contacted this company last year while my husband and I were just about to close on a home requiring extensive renovations. Based on Yelp reviews, I contacted Shafayet to meet for a quote. Shafayet meet up at the directed location promptly, he was professional, and assertive on necessary repairs etc. Fortunately, once the contract was signed from our end the seller worked to press us for more $ on the home. We remained firm and continued our home search, (two months later the same seller's agent contacts us to ask if we're still interested in the home, guess the seller gambled and loss). I mentioned 'fortunately' earlier because as our two year home search resumed we landed a better home. Having felt confident in Shafayet and his frank advisement and no non sense attitude, I contacted him a 2nd time. Shafayet was on it post haste, quickly affirming what needed to be done and how soon he could put the home on schedule. I was honest with Shafayet from the start on my budget ( having sunk in more on the 2nd home then what I would have on the first). Shafayet and his team were the right fit for making our fixer-upper a TRUE home. His team ARE incredible! We had about a 2-3 month deadline on our apt so the pressure was on. His men worked from 8am-9pm at times. 6-7 days a week to ensure progress. 2nd floor was skim coated entirely and painted. 1st floor was darn near gutted save for the floors in dinning and living room. A partition, a closet, 4 walls (yeah, I'm one of those open floor type of people) Shafayet had to reign me in on the '...can this come down, and that...' he abided I'd have no home left if he did that. Whole kitchen completely demo'd and Patio doors added (that he advised, which was a great call). Track lights, floating shelves in the kitchen, new flooring in den and kitchen, more skim coating and painting. We were simply adding more work as we went and Shafayet who should have been bald by now (from all sudden requests and changes) took it in stride. I'm sure we gave him high blood pressure when an electrician we hired didn't fit the project and Shafayet was able to get his own electrician [Glenn] to complete the work when the skim coating had nearly been dried! (Loads of holes being made that needed to be re patched) I know my husband sure gave him palpitations with his questions but his attitude and professionalism never wavered nor his honesty. The entire MC team from additional contractors hired on IE: The plumber [John], they were excellent, respectful and prompt. I down right adore the carpenter [Hector] who did things for our home (installing window rods etc because I didn't want to mess the walls up) totally beneath him but he did it. Shafayet only works with the best from skill to personality and it was a pleasure to get this company while I had the chance. Our home is a beauty in progress and we will continue to contact Shafayet much to his hidden dismay (I joke) for the remaining renovations. I WON'T be going elsewhere. My basement, attic etc need renovations. If you're a home owner looking for quality, reliability, professionalism and a company who will treat your home as you would then Multi- Construction Co. From an empty box, Shafayet and his team built 3 offices, an entrance area made from antique glass, gutted and remodeled 2 bathrooms, sound proofed all the offices with plywood, rewired electrical for the entire space, and repainted in 5 short weeks as promised. I was impressed with Shafayet's honesty, hard work, and responsiveness to inquiries and work order changes. Shafayet did a fantastic job on our apartment. His team replaced our floors and floorboards, demo'd a wall, painted our entire apartment, gutted our kitchen and and installed a new one. We hired Multi Construction to work on a rather large single family home renovation which spanned from Sept 2016 to Feb 2017 . Scope was to update the kitchen, 3 bathrooms, cellar, electrical, plumbing, install ductless mini-split, paint. We met with 7-10 contractors and ended up selecting Multi Construction for our renovation. We were happy with our choice based on the following: - Communication: We worked with Shafayet, who made himself available. He took our calls, communicated via text and email, and met with us in the evenings (almost every week) to go over updates as well. In terms of work style, Shafayet gets down to business and focuses on the work itself and in the details. He does not fluff or sugar coat things, which we appreciated. - Reasonable pricing: Compared to the other quotes we got from contractors, the pricing was reasonable and in line with others. Tip: Make sure you are detailed as possible on the type of work needed to get an accurate quote. Even on the additional change orders we had, we thought the pricing was justified and Shafayet was open to the additional work. - Realistic point of view: From the start, Shafayet was upfront with what he saw as the big ticket items and what issues may come up during the renovation. He didn't try to sell / market himself like other contractors. Throughout the renovation, we would exchange thoughts and ideas and he would share his POV on how things would look like and what he would recommend. There are a few considerations you need to be prepared for: - Even though you are hiring a contractor, you need to be the project manager and be very involved especially for the big ticket items. We were on site at least once a week and addressed any concerns/issues/questions immediately with Shafayet. We also learned we had to be detailed with our communication. - The team was onsite on Monday-Fridays and most Saturdays in order to get the work done. Shafayet is onsite at times but not 100% as he manages other projects. - We had to buy our own materials (e.g., Kitchen cabinets, countertop, fixtures, tiles, etc.) However, Shafayet did recommend his vendors that he has worked with in the past. There were several instances where Shafayet's recommendations have saved us money on the cost. Check measurements with the contractor and timing on when he needs the materials before making any purchase. - Plumbing and electrical work is subcontracted to other vendors. It was always good practice to ask about the subcontractors prior to beginning the work. There were slight hiccups along the way that pushed back our completion date and where we had to change some minor aspects of our renovation. But that is to be expected with any renovation. The entire process was smooth from start to finish and I never experienced one ounce of unprofessionalism from Shafayet or ANYONE on his team. Some details: *Shafayet employs skilled, honest, confident and respectful PROFESSIONALS. We were warned when we received Shafayet's quote that 1-2 guys would be doing ALL the work (demo, plumbing, painting, electrical, etc.). That is NOT the case at all. Anthony, who installed our cabinets, puts his heart and soul into the work, and it was not a clearcut, easy job. He will not put in a single screw until he knows it's perfect or can explain any issues he may foresee. Anthony never cut a corner. And Glenn, the electrician, is one of the nicest human beings I've met, but also a really skilled electrician. He knows what he has to do to get the job done, which ultimately makes you feel like you're in good hands. *Shafayet is a busy guy but always responded to my calls and my texts in a timely manner. A renovation is stressful enough, I can't imagine the added stress of not being able to communicate with your GC (and trust me, we had that with other vendors - unrelated to Multi Construction Co- during this renovation). *Shafayet is flexible. I told Shafayet from the beginning that I had my own painter and wallpaper-er. He was fine with that. Many of GCs we interviewed said it had to be their whole team or they wouldn't do it. I can see the efficiencies of having one team for the whole project, but Shafayet put that aside to please us. *Shafayet keeps a close eye on all of his projects and delegates appropriately. Shafayet was not in our home every single day, but he was always there on important days and he would check in on progress every few days. He holds his guys to a high standard of quality in their work. *The best way to build a relationship with Shafayet is to simply treat him the way you want to be treated. I have read some of the poor reviews on Yelp here and can honestly say I do not share one iota of their experience. I'm not sure if they approached Shafayet in a manner that quickly put him on the defense or he felt was condescending. But I felt and I believe Shafayet felt that we were on equal ground and that made our working relationship successful. I have to say working with Shafayet on a renovation of my apartment a few years ago was one of the worst, most unpleasant experiences of my life. Among other things, he put tiles in the wrong bathroom, painted rooms the wrong color and measured closets incorrectly -- resulting in thousands of dollars of additional fees. Ruined my whole summer for my entire family. I read all the reviews on yelp & should have really followed the 1 Star crucial readings. I made the biggest mistake of my entire life hiring this extremely unprofessional argumentative mean, smug nasty uppity deceitful weasel. He was hired because the work on line photos were excellent. Attitude is horrendously horrible. I'm A middle age woman & did not stand for his demonic tantrums & told him I don't deserve to be treated in this manner & won't stand for it. After HE GOT THE DEPOSIT WHICH WAS A LOT HE WAS A DIFFERENT PERSON. Installation of Vinyl backyard fencing / posts, concrete boarder all around, shed & roof painted, half yard removal of old chain link fence & 2 minor items. The minor items he had no interest in doing nor the simple things. His face told it all. The job this man was hired to do was in early April 2016 he immediately ran over with in 3 days for the 3rd of the deposit which was close to $ 6,000.00. OK the end of April the fencing arrived 18 pieces with the wrong posts 2Xs. No one ever checked before putting this unmatched color on the truck. So now the wait begins. From April to June the second set 0f post arrive but only half the order. Nothing in May no calls nothing. Mr. S. stopped all communication. So now were in July & I call. Mr. S he says " SO WHAT DO U WANT. I AM VERY BUSY WITH OTHER WORK. " The nerve, I told him exactly what was on my mind & when are U getting to my work, its July. Nothing in the mean time I'm on yelp following all the reviews & all the happy customers. But I am still on the totem pole waiting. Well from reading all the reviews Mr. S. Stopped my outdoor work to do other jobs. For us, this was the most important thing - great customer service and professionalism. Shafayet also expected high quality work. If we were not happy with anything, he was more than willing to fix it. I appreciated the final walk-through that he conducts to ensure everything meets your expectations. We hired Shafayet to renovate a two bedroom apartment. He renovated 1 bathroom, painted entire apartment, renovated 1 walk-in closet, upgraded kitchen sink faucet, plastered all walls to smooth them out, buffed/polished and re-stained floors and replaced base boards. Every single bad review on here is spot on. Shafayet is just overall unprofessional and Shady. The work was so so. The crew didn't clean up after themselves and missed some large spots when painting. They charge a moving fee when refinishing floors and painting (which was obnoxiously high) but didn't move any of the stuff back. Also, I guess the moving fee didn't cover the AC's? They were left in the windows and under it was just left unpainted. They got paint all over the light fixtures. This is all seems like painting 101 to me. Fast forward two months, we reach out to him (convenience purposes) to replace a broken door. He sends a guy to take measurements and just never responded to calls, texts, emails after that. I have to admit, when Shefayet said he will finish by our timeline my wife and I were skeptical. I dont think we've ever heard any of our friends finish any project on time with any contractors theyve hired. After doing some research and interviewing about 7 companies we went with Multi. I wont tell you that it was a calm experience, but no renovation ever is. Multi is not cheap, but they are punctual and honest. We did bicker back and forth at times, but ultimately he did an exceptional job, returned my phone calls, was always responsive and made us really happy. Our condo was leaking internally along one wall, and we had Shafayet come out to look at the leaks and give us a quote on restuccoing the outside wall. Shafayet was extremely professional and fairly priced - around $6,000 for one wall, with 30 year window caulking included. It took a few months to decide on who we were going to go with, and in that timeframe Shafayet was very responsive to all of my questions and requests. We ended up hiring him and his team started about 2 weeks later. They finished the job within 2 weeks and were very accommodating, especially with the way we access our backyard (only the 1st floor apt has access to the yard, so everyone had to use the basement window to get to the backyard). Our building is a 3 unit condo and while I was the main contact for Shafayet, he still worked with the other 2 owners and listened to their questions/requests. I would definitely recommend Multi Construction Company, and I would hire them again. So far no leaks along that wall, and we have had a few storms since they finished. read more

He came over to our house to discuss a full renovation of our coop and said he would have a quote the next day and we never heard from him again. Should have listened to the other reviews and not wasted my time. He seemed annoyed from the moment we met up like he didn't want to be bothered. I don't like contractor. Frankly, I rather go to the dentist. But I wanted to redo my kitchen and bathroom and being 7 months pregnant, it was now or never. I kept asking friend and family for recommendations and not one person would recommend their contractor, no one had a good experience. So I came here to Yelp, it's almost never steered me wrong before :) and found multi-construction. People though I was nuts hiring a contractor based on Yelp reviews... Well... Shafayet and his team came in and did a BEAUTIFUL job. They were top notch professionals, finished the job within the estimated time even though we had adjustments along the way. I appreciated that they didn't dilly dally and take their time, The baby was coming and I couldn't take that risk. Shafayet had specialists lined up to so they could come in and knock what what they were in charge of. Most of the workers were polite and professional. It's almost 2 years since he did the work and it still looks fresh and beautiful, I get complements all the time. Above and beyond, I would recommend multi- construction for his workmanship, professionalism and most of all shafayet's integrity. read more

My husband and I purchased our home in October 2015 that needed much TLC. The house was in a very bad condition and it needed to be fully renovated. We knew the process was going to be pretty scary and risky but we were fully committed to finding the right team for this gut renovation project. It was very sad to see that no one in my family, friends nor coworkers were able to refer someone they had used in the past because they had such a bad experience. We interviewed many contractors and architects but we must say Shafayet from Multi Construction was the most honest and sincere contractor we've ever met. From the very beginning he told us what to expect and what we needed to do before hiring a contractor. He initially told us we needed an architect to change the structure and layout of the house. We tried to differ from his advice but we realized he was right about hiring an architect. We needed an architect to legally change the structure and layout of our one family house. Shafayet invested time to gain our trust by showing us his previous Job sites for reference. Multi Construction quote was not extremely low which means his work was not poor in quality but it was not extremely high; it was right in the middle! I believe his price was fair and very reasonable for all the amount of work we had required. Today, I am very happy we decided to hire him for this project. From the moment Shafayet took over this gut renovated project his team has made this process a lot easier for us. Multi construction completed the demolition of our home in less than a week. That is very impressive! They began to level out the floors and created the new layout of our home immediately after. They were very knowledgeable, well experienced and they followed all the architects' plans. Everything that was on paper was coming to life right before my eyes and it was an unforgettable experience. The footing & foundation are very solid, the framing, exterior finishing and the interior finishing were remarkable and used great materials. Overall, his team are highly skilled contractors and I will forever be grateful for their talent and exceptional customer service. His team was extremely professional, respectful, hardworking and reliable individuals. They were always united, always on time and always available to answer our questions. It was such a beautiful, pleasant experience that I will always speak very highly of Multi Construction and I will never trust anyone else other than this team to do work in my house or any other project I may face in the near future. read more

I normally don't write reviews unless I think that they will help someone. I had a really bad experience with a contractor in Manhattan a few years ago and was really wary of hiring one to do a gut renovation of my bathroom. I called and interviewed 5 different ones and finally chose Shafayet's team because he was reasonably priced (not the lowest or the highest), didn't try to push me to buy materials from him or tell me what to do (many male contractors tried to dictate to me - probably because I am a young female), and from the other yelp reviews (which one hopes are true). In this case, I am happy to say that they are all on point. He required very little guidance and I trusted his taste and style implicitly. I even added to the job by asking him to install a kitchen countertop and dishwasher as well. He had all the required paperwork required by my co-op and sorted out most things with the super. Job took a little longer than anticipated but that was a series of mishaps that are independent of his work, but I liked the fact that he came back to finish those details when called, even after I had paid him in full. He was always professional and accessible which gave me confidence in his integrity. I am so glad a I found an honest contracting company that I would not hesitate doing business with again. read more
