Pricing: I met with 7 contractors, and Adam's pricing was the most competitive. Both in the initial estimate and as we added on a few items during the project, I felt the pricing was fair and Adam was not out to price gouge me (as a lot of contractors will try to do). I never got the feeling that I was being nickel-and-dimed, and we came within a few thousand $$ of budget (with all additional $$ being due to change orders such as recess lighting etc.).
Quality of work: The quality was very good, barring a few minor details that were quickly addressed once identified to Adam. The wallpapering I thought was especially well-done. This is an old apartment, so there are basically no right angles remaining, and there were various other quirks in the layout due to the age; but Adam was able to address these issues well.
Timing: I put them on an extremely aggressive schedule -- 8 weeks to get to substantial completion. And they met this timing, where other contractors claimed it simply could not be done. I am told that contractors always go over time, but Adam gave me his word, and he kept it, including the additional work I requested.
Communication: Adam was very responsive, getting back to me in a few hours in most cases. He was also on-hand to answer the (many) questions we had. This was important to us as this was the first major renovation we've done, and it was helpful to have someone give us practical no-B.S. guidance (and, as appropriate, outline the choices). One minor issue was that several of the workers did not speak English, which made it difficult at certain points where Adam was not on-site.
Description of work:
This was a full gut renovation of a 3BR co-op on the UWS. Adam's did full demo work, remodeled both bathrooms, reconfigured and opened kitchen (but cabinets were done by a third party), re-floored entire apartment, installed recess lighting in kitchen and 3BR, painted/wallpapered, and various miscellaneous items (like built AC covers). read more
