Growing up in NJ, diners, and their place in the fabric of my family and social lives was significant. It's been a while, but I was craving a little bit of that nostalgia and made the trip to Christy's. I was concerned when I arrived at 615pm for dinner and I was the only non-staff member cat in the lot. Yes, it was a Tuesday. But...the only? Despite circling the building thinking I should leave - I went in. I wanted a roast beef club on white with an extra side of coleslaw (I LOVE coleslaw). On a whim, I also tried a cup of chili. 1 star for the look and decor. It's truly a diner. 1 star for the service. Everyone was attentive (I was the only customer) and wonderful. Perhaps I ordered wrong, but the roast beef was one day away from inedible. It had a slight funk that only comes when it's been cut and doesn't turn with orders within 4-5 days. I ate it. But had to put some of my coleslaw on it to trick myself. Oh, the coleslaw was not real. Not house made. It's the base version offered by PGE (food distributer buying group). Tasteless. Not creamy. Nothing tasted authentic or seemed to have inspiration. All the food was presented well. But I don't think this place does enough business for things to be fresh for lunch or dinner. I would go back for breakfast foods - as they have to be cooked to order. read more

Typical diner spot we decided to have breakfast at one weekday. Great selection of food items from breakfast to dinner. I opted for Texas French toast which was cooked perfectly. My friend was in the mood for a burger and as diner's go, they can cook up anything on the menu at any time! I always appreciate a place where they walk around offering coffee refills regularly so that was a huge plus for me too. Everyone working there seemed really friendly and the food came out really fast. I'll for sure be back to try more off the menu! read more

You can tell by my other reviews, I get around and eat out in high quality restaurants quite a bit. I feel like I don't say this enough, but this is the best Chicken Souvlaki Platter I've ever had in any diner. The chicken is always fresh and tender, never rubbery or hard or reheated. It's cooked fresh to order. The amount of chicken is super-generous. It is incredibly well-seasoned, and the fries are crispy and delicious diner fries. I usually get a cup of brown beef gravy to dip them in. You get four large pieces of pita, bread and a fresh salad with super large pieces of feta cheese. All the ingredients are fresh, and there are never ever any wilted or brown pieces of lettuce. There are pitted Greek olives, red onions, and sweet cherry tomatoes and an amazing tzatziki with the taste of fresh and earthy dill. For $16.99 you'll eat twice. I suggest you don't put the dressing on the salad, because you will 100% eat this for lunch the next day. I just dip my forkful into the dressing, I can't tell you how absolutely in love you'll be with this dish. This is my home time diner. I eat breakfast here, and about twice a month, we come for dinner, when we want a cozy diner experience with super incredible staff and good hometown vibes. The owners take great pride in how fresh the food is. Their burgers are amazing too. And by the looks of some of the pasta dishes, which are usually overcooked and bloated pasta in other diners, the other dishes like chicken scarpiello and penne aka vodka looked totally legit, but I cannot attest to this. But, just by looks alone, I'd say the presentation was better than diner quality. If you love a great weeknight dinner, Christy's Diner in Torrington is the place to go. First, the good. Place is clean, floors swept, tables neat. Staff is friendly. But the food is not to my liking. I ordered a cheese omlett. Was good, the toast was buttered nicely, but the potatoes were dry and looked old. if they want to improve, they should put a slice or 2 of a fruit. Otherwise, the meal felt like all I ate was potatoes and bread. Add something healthy and refreshing. My wife ordered the greek omelet. The onions were not cooked, and there hardly any feta cheese in it. They know how to charge for the fets, but they don't give nearly enough of it. $31 for 2 omeletts that are not worth it. I was really disappointed to hear about the recent experience a family had at this restaurant. A happy, talkative toddler shouldn't be seen as a disturbance in a place that has always been known as family-friendly. There were so many better ways the situation could've been handled--like a polite conversation, offering a different table, or simply showing a little patience. Kicking out a family because their child was happy and loud is not good hospitality or customer service. I won't be returning, and I hope management reflects on how they treat families in the future. read more

The chicken marsala is my absolute favorite! Every time I come, I get the same thing. This is a go to for my family for breakfast and dinner and they have been going for years. Some of the items are much better than others so it's kind of a hit or mess but I've never had a bad experience. A couple years ago, I maybe had the best breakfast of my life here. The omelette and the home fries were done to perfection. Every time I go there now (maybe once a month) for past year this is the bottom of my home fries! Listen closely for the crispy sound! Oh and the top side is just overcooked potato of course since they obviously never flip them while cooking. I've complained twice. The first time the waitress didn't seem to care at all and the second time was to the woman behind the counter who maybe didn't speak English. She just smiled and told me to have a nice day as she handed me my change. And the omelette is adequate at best each time now. You would think the cook could figure out and learn from their mistakes after this much time. Went here for a quick breakfast before a nice long hike. We were greeted by this friendly older woman who sat us at our booth. Our server was friendly and the service was great. I ordered a western omelette, it was cooked perfectly. My one complaint is I did ask for hot sauce which never came- but my omelette was fine without! I must say their home fries are the best I've ever had! Nice and crispy - seasoned to perfection. They were delicious. We also got some pancakes for the littles, they were happy with the flavor and size. My boyfriend got the eggs benedict and had no complaints. Overall, it was a good experience. read more

Christy's has great service and good food, especially their breakfast menu. The pancakes are excellent and the omelets are as well. I noticed the TV set was tuned to Fox News which made my excellent dining experience even better. Usually a TV in a public place is tuned to some government propaganda outlet like CNN, who's viewership is so low that it's only watched in airport lounges and doctor's offices. It was nice to see the owners had some class and intelligence. I will definitely keep frequenting this place because I've always had a good meal and very good service there. read more

Met a girlfriend for Sunday brunch and found this popular spot in Madison. Upon entering it is a rustic and charming space. However we were seated in a room of to the right and it desperately needs a serious cleaning. I suspect it is the rug but there is a strong musty odor that is not appealing. Putting that aside the food was good, I had an omelet, my friend had eggs and hash and said it was good. They have a wide variety of Bloody Mary's on the menu and other adult breakfast beverages and they looked delicious. It is standard breakfast fair and reasonably priced and a decent meal. We came here on a ride of the North West hills. I ordered a foot long hot dog and my wife ordered a roast beef sandwich with fries.It was very warm in the dining room but after a while our food came. My hot dog looked like it had been on the grill for hours and had more wrinkles than your Grandma. Fries were way to hot and my wife's sandwich was sub par. As a local Torrington resident I once stopped at Christy's on a regular basis. However, the service has declined drastically and prices have increased more than other options. Twice in the past month we left without even giving our order because we were ignored after being seated for over 15 minutes. Today (11/4/2022) we were seated in a booth at 5:45 pm. After waiting for 10 minutes another couple was seated in an adjacent booth. Finally the waitress came by, but ignored us and took the other couple's order although we were waiting at least 10 minutes before they arrived. This lack of service is exactly what drives customers to the competition. It is a shame because we were long time customers and always enjoyed visiting here. The only advice I can give is to make sure you visit when the place is empty, and you are prepared to pay a premium price for almost every item on the menu. read more

We've dined here before, but today we tried their Breakfast/Brunch Buffet! We were seated immediately, our wait staff asked if we wanted coffee, yes, we did. We got there at 12:30 and buffet selections were good; scrambled eggs, omelettes, eggs Benedict, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, home fries, cut fruit, choices of cereals and orange juice. We filled our plates and everything was great except the biscuit was hard and cold. It was a breakfast feast, really. Let me first say that the food here is very good and the wait staff are nice and attentive. The atmosphere is pleasant and its a great place to go for breakfast after a walk around the beaches. I took away one star because the last time I came here, I asked for water and was told I could only order bottled water. No tap water is available and I was told the owner stoped offering tap water since covid? The food was marginal at best even though the waitress said "everything here is home made by scratch and fabulous". When I asked about their New England Clam Chowder I was told it was super, so I ordered a bowl. It was watered down and tasteless, the clam pieces were hard to chew from being overcooked so long. The burgers arrived to our table beyond overcooked, they were completely tasteless, dry and hard to cut. Their coffee was also weak and lacked any flavor. Overall the entire meal left more than one of us in our family with a bad taste in our mouths and a bit of an upset stomach. As far as I am concerned the food and preparation of the meal was low grade and unhealthy. In retrospect we should of gotten up from the table, refused to pay and walk out right after I was served the crappy clam chowder. Conclusion = Avoid this place unless you are desperate. Christy's seems to handle most of the afterthought dining on the north end of Torrington. I'm sure there are regulars, as there are everywhere, but you won't find yourself going out of your way to eat here. The food is about what you'd expect at a place like this. My wife and I enjoy this excellent diner at least once a week. They have the standard fare of hamburgers, chicken parm, reubens etc. Waitstaff stays close and is attentive. For our last meal I had he turkey burger deluxe. It came with fries and coleslaw. But I got a baked potato instead of fries. My wife had the turkey blt wrap. I have only stopped once, so take this for what it's worth. The patty melt is the BEST of have had since leaving NJ. I know it seems odd to swoon over such a pedestrian dish, but really .... it was divine! Cooked to juicy perfection, topped with caramelized onions on rye. Only thing I had to request was extra thousand island dressing on the side. It ain't fancy in there, but it is clean and the service was friendly and welcoming.
