Thanks to Yelp, I was able to find Christine, who use to make her own wedding dresses. These days, she works out of her home doing alterations for us! She is just a phone call away! I suspect the number listed is also her personal phone number. She was very accommodating and very flexible, which was very helpful with my schedule. I came back about a hand full of times for my satin wedding dress, as I had to take in the bust, waist, and hem the dress. I also had her restructure my neck line (strapless) to adjust to my removable sleeves as they were quite long. I initially also had the designer restructure my neck line as I didn't like the pointy edges of my strapless dress and subsequently had the designer round out my line. Christine took it in some more and continued to round them to attach my sleeves so they wouldn't drape down so low on my arms. Although the process was a bit nerve wrecking, she did a wonderful job. She also showed me various bustles and was very knowledgeable. Despite choosing one, she gave me two options when I picked up my final dress, which was very nice. She is very reasonable priced, given that she has low overhead working in a small cramped space of her home. I was quoted elsewhere for about 5x the price. So I was very pleased to say the least. I can't recommend Christine enough. I thought my dress fit me pretty well, I needed the straps shortened and the waist taken in, and I got rid of the train. When I tried the dress after Christine worked her magic, I literally teared up--her work was so good it was like the dress was made for my body. I asked her to leave a little flutter in the back when she got rid of the train, and she proactively added a loop in between buttons so I could "bustle" for dancing. Christine is a secret hidden gem whom I am so fortunate to book appointments with to alter my (American and Chinese) wedding dresses! My friend referred me to her and told me she gets booked fast, so I called extra early to meet with her - 3 months before our appointment and 8 months before the wedding! Note: Booking early was a very good choice due to the unexpected covid situation. We had to cancel 2 of our appointments due to non-essential businesses being closed. Christine is so kind and knew exactly what I wanted for the dresses. For the white dress, she did the following for a third of what the price would normally be: - tightened the sides - shortened the straps and bottom of dress - added in bra padding - added loops and buttons for the bustle For the Chinese wedding dress/cheongsam, she tightened the sides and front for only $20! There are a lot of dresses and fabrics in her room, which shows how many customers come to her! Just a heads up, the changing room is a small area in the same room with a divider board, so there might not be alot of privacy. If a slightly cluttered workspace bothers you... don't work with Christine. But if you can get past that minimal detail, I have to say, I have been SO impressed with Christine. First of all, she's super nice. Second, she always remembers what I requested and completes it perfectly. And finally, she had my wedding dress done in 2 weeks, and then was even able to fit me in for a last minute bustle alteration (it had to be higher for our first dance) and got it done in a week. A WEEK, in her peak season right before my wedding!! She is such a good tailor and I am so lucky that I found her. Butchered.. My dress needed to be taken in on the top bodice area. My dress has princess seams. After two appointments the princess seams that go right across each breast were no longer recognizable compared to the dress I bought. The seams were extremely bumpy, puckered, thread hanging out of them, the breasts somehow were made to look pointy and triangular and it was still too loose. The seams weren't even and no longer held the same beautiful curve. To say I was devastated was an understatement!! I had to take my dress elsewhere and have them fix it. The new seamstress told me my dress has been butchered and she would've never let anyone walk out like that. I did call Christine to speak to her and let her know how upset I was with her alterations. Her first words were verbatim "yeah I thought the seams were really lumpy but I figured if you pressed it it would be okay but I guess not." Wow, this is my wedding dress that I've spent a lot of money on and this is how you treat it!! Appalled. Christin did however give me a partial refund. Her workspace is a small room out of her home that is extremely cluttered, stuff piled up to my waist and dresses balled up and thrown around. Very dim light, one tiny mirror, only a few sq feet of standable/ walkable space and a tiny tiny area to change behind a privacy screen that's half falling down. Christine is very nice, friendly and flexible with her schedule but I would never recommend her or would ever go back. read more

She turned a dumpy and ill fitting long white dress into a stunning dress - it needed adjusting in every single dimension, so this was truly a miracle. This review is definitely overdue since I got married last year, but I wanted to write one regardless because my experience with Christine was so good. She works out of her home in Quincy so it may be a bit of a trek if you're coming from the city but her skills and knowledge of alteration can't be beat, especially for her price point. I was shocked to see some of the prices for wedding dress alterations when it came to shops in Boston and on Newbury Street so it was refreshing to see someone provide reasonable and realistic prices. I adjusted my straps with her and had my waist taken in. She also installed a bustle with 3 buttons for my train and all of that cost less than $150. Chris apparently has been working with wedding dresses for decades, and at one point even made her own dresses. She also works with bridesmaid dresses and even converted my friend's dress strap into a button so that she would have easy accessibility while breastfeeding. They warned me that her studio is a bit messy but I didn't mind it. I brought my wedding dress for alterations, added cups, took in the breast area, shortened the hem and added 3 bustles to my dress all for under $150. She added an extra hook to secure the back without charging me more. It turned out amazing with such decent pricing. She's definitely affordable and I'd recommend her to any brides on a budget. After speaking to Christine over the phone, I was really looking forward to my appointment with her, especially with all the wonderful reviews I read online. I had explained to her the problem I had with the train of my wedding dress being too long and that I was worried about the fabric dragging. She was very friendly and her voice was very calming. I had very high hopes for our meeting. However, my appointment did not last very long. Upon arrival, I could barely step foot in the door of her room where she received her clients. There were heaps of fabric everywhere. This I did not mind that much except that there was no where for me to get undressed. There was a small mirror about eight feet or so from the door and no privacy. Even if I had been desperate enough to disrobe completely and step into my wedding gown, there would be no space for me to walk and show her the dress. I took time off during the middle of a work day and drove over an hour to see her, only to have to turn around immediately. Her response when I said, "There isn't anywhere for me to walk and show you the train of my dress," was, "we can make it work." This 'can-do' attitutude is much appreciated in any workplace, but this was not the time or place for it. As a professional, she should have offered to at least clear a space for me to try on my dress for her. Instead, she barely had the decency to stand up to greet me as she worked away at her sewing table. I really hope that this review helps Christine realize that what she should have done was told me no over the phone, that she did not have enough space for me to try on my dress with a long train. It is okay to turn down customers do not fit her schedule and do not fit her work space. If she had been this busy to not have the courtesy to stand up to greet me from her desk after I had made an appointment to see her, then perhaps she should reconsider making appointments altogether. Her rates for bridal dress alterations are by far the most affordable I've come across, and any repeat fittings and alterations for the same dress are included in the original quoted price. I must have been a terror to work with because I kept having to return due to my fluctuating weight. However, she always managed to find a way to accommodate my schedule and last minute fittings. Any bridal client of hers will agree that she is none other than a magician with needle and thread. I picked up a heavy, size 10 sample Priscilla of Boston dress with silk organza, crystal beading, and lace appliqués (and built-in corset) that Chris brought down to fit my small, size 0 frame. I mention the details of this dress because other tailors would significantly upcharge if a dress was difficult to work with. In the end, the dress that once consumed me fit like a glove as if it had been made for me. At our wedding on 11/4/12, I received so many compliments on how beautiful the dress was and how perfectly tailored it looked! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Christine O'Hare!!!!! I just got married August 10 and had Christine do my wedding dress alterations and I'm SO happy that I found her (thanks to reviews on yelp, wedding wire etc)! I purchased my dress in Los Angeles visiting my mom and sister, but live in Boston so had to find someone in the Boston area to do my alterations. My dress was a Martina Liana so I first called the bridal salons that carried this designer to see if they would do my alterations but all of them said no since I didn't buy my dress through them. (So frustrating!!) I then visited Best Fit on Newbury street and not only did she quote me a small fortune, I just didn't get the vibe they were going to give me the nurturing attention a nervous bride requires :) I then decided after reading tons of reviews, and being denied by a lot of local bridal salons since they wouldn't take dresses not purchased through them, I decided to go to Chris. I was nervous only because I didn't have a personal referral so it's always a little scary just going off reviews you read and you don't have pictures to show you etc. But everything went great!!! Chris was so sweet, accommodating and did an OUTSTANDING job on my dress. I will try to post a few photos but my dress was very intricate (another reason I was nervous) with a very detailed applique, some beading and a textured, organic edge bottom, so it was anything but simple. But Christine did her magic and my dress looked beautiful and the fit was superb!!!! :) My alterations included: -take in a few inches on the sides -shorten dress -create a little more of 'fit/flare' shape by taking in more around the hips -bustle -she also shortened my beaded belt I had 2 fittings and a final pick-up. If you're a bride living in the Boston area, Christine is hands down your best choice, both in terms of skill and price point. She is a really lovely person, and so easy to work with. Like most brides, I got my dress in the mail and was really looking forward to having it altered to fit like the one I had tried on in the store. My biggest issue was the way the bust fit, but Christine provided other suggestions in addition to fixing the bust that were a lifesaver. I was able to pick up my dress the following month, and for only $100 she fixed the bust, altered the back so it would lay more flat, added a bustle, and hemmed one of the liners so it wouldn't be so heavy. My wedding was significantly postponed due to the coronavirus, but I can't wait until the day I get to wear my gown! Christine's space is definitely overflowing with sewing supplies, but to be honest that was a total non-issue for me.
