He told me pick up date as August 11th for my WEDDING dress, then I show up on the 11th and he has a sign up that he's on vacation until the 26th. I triple check my slip that does in fact say the 11th, never got any communication about this. Now that he's finally back he's not able to accommodate my schedule for pick up so I need to send my mom to pick it up and just hope that he did a decent job. I would never recommend this service to anyone. What a waste of time I could have spent with a quality tailor. read more

Awful quality and customer service. I paid $43 ($28 zipper replacement + $15 expediting fee) to have Nam replace my girlfriends zipper on a dress. After she zipped it up for the first time, the zipper broke and the dress was brought back to have it fixed and Nam said that the dress was too tight for my girlfriend, which was the reason why the zipper broke in the first place. We were promised to pick up the dress with a new zipper on Thursday (4/20) but even though we arrived on a Saturday (4/23), it was still not ready. We then came back around 4 PM on the same day and then attempted to pick up the dress but then Nam said he wanted to see my girlfriend wear the dress to see if there's any issues. After he saw her wear the dress, he again mentioned that the dress was too tight even though she was able to successfully zip it up with no issues and started arguing with my gf that it's not his problem that the dress doesn't fit and he won't fix it again because he's losing money (I was taken aback here). I highly recommend anyone that's looking for a decent tailor to skip this place. Nam lacks any sort of customer service skills and seems to be a mess in terms of organization and keeping promises of when to pick up garments. I will NEVER come here again and if you read the other 1 star reviews on this page, you'll see the exact same issue with Nam. He uses cheap quality zippers and blames the customer for his issues. read more

Took my bridesmaid dress to Nam to get the upper part of the dress pulled in and hemmed. He seems like he's been working as a tailor for decades and has a lot of experience. His store seemed busy with tons of suits, pants, shirts, dresses, etc lined up but he quoted me 2 weeks and a reasonable price. I wasn't in a rush to get the dress so came after 3 weeks and was in and out with my tailored dress in 5 minutes. It definitely looks professionally done and the dress now fits perfectly! I do NOT recommend . He had 2 1/2 weeks to alter my daughter's dress for a wedding party. When she went to pick it up, he hadn't started it. He rushed through it and butchered it and then charged my daughter $200. I had to pay someone else another $200 to fix it. read more

We love Nam. Now going on 10 years and several locations. We use him for coat, dress, shirt, pants and fixes of anytype. For new stuff he alwas suggestion by something VERY big and he will adjust down to your fit. So feel comfortable buying 1 or 2 sizes large and come in to Nam for the prefect fit. He is quite good, and wont accept work that will make you look bad. His english is not great, but accept this, and work slowly through your first interaction. He is honest, reliable, and generally nice. read more

This was my first time bringing a dress to be altered and I had a good experience. I called to make sure the shop was open before going and he answered the phone within the first two rings. He was very friendly and was able to finish my dress by the end of the following week with no delays. The bridesmaid dress came out great and I'd definitely go back to him again in the future. I've heard stories about how you need to bring a dress at least 3 or 4 weeks in advance, but he was able to complete this within 2 weeks. Highly recommend Nam the Tailor! read more

Two big issues. Quite the rude owner and hard to communicate. . His English is confusing, barely passable for tailoring/sewing needs. So it was super hard to understand what he's trying to say. I figured most from his arm movements and physically pulling on my suit. Parents immigrated to the states, so I understand how hard it is to learn English as a second language, but they still learned enough to communicate effectively for their jobs. Not here, nope. Also, I came in to have my dress pants shortened. Asked to have it 3 days later after we finished measuring. He FREAKED! He flipped out because I didn't tell him I need it so quick. Apparently I was supposed to let him know the first thing through the door. Dude, it's hemming a pair of pants!! He said I'll have to pay an extra $50 for it to be rushed. Then keeps complaining how I wasted 30 minutes of his time when he's busy (which really took less than 5 mins from me walking in to writing up the order), how I should have informed him of the "rush" job beforehand, how he has too much work, how I'm a terrible person, etc etc. I told him to forget it and left. TLDR: Super rude, super whiny and can't communicate well... but complains really really well. Don't know about workmanship, never got to that point. His terrible customer service drove me away. Epilogue: Went to another tailor across town. Also Asian, also an immigrant (we had a good chat in English). She on the other hand, spoke DANG GOOD English (color me impressed) and had no problems hemming my pants same day. She said it'll take an hour or two max. Cheaper too. Nam is down my street, this lady is across down. Guess which one I'll patronize the next time? Hint, definitely not the whine baby. read more

I suppose for very simple alterations-- just hemming something slightly-- Nam might be fine. But for anything more involved DO NOT GO. I had to go back twice trying to get my bridesmaids dress taken in, and he just could not get it right. It is still way too big in the bust, back, and sides. It also puckers terribly along the zipper in the back. I had to spend $110 on these "alterations" and the dress looks awful. I am going to need a ton of fashion tape for it not to fall off. He has a lot of trouble communicating in english, so he just kept pointing at the sleeves. Which had nothing to do with anything, they have a completely different seam from the area that needs to be worked on. Unfortunately, my dress looks awful, and I wasted $110 and hours of my time. Most recently I talked Nam into making me a pair of bespoke trousers. I don't normally recommend shelling out for custom pants, since 99% of guys will do just as well getting a pair off the rack and having Nam alter it to fit. Pants are just two tubes, after all, much less complicated than a suit jacket or blazer. However, I wanted something in a specific fabric and style, and I am a bit tougher to fit on average, due to my big butt and thighs, so I asked Nam if he could do it for me. He resisted at first, since as I mentioned before, in terms of paying the bills, it's more efficient to just do basic alterations all day. But Nam's pretty passionate about the craft so I asked a few more times nicely and he relented "because you're a regular." I'll take it! The result was the most beautiful pair of workhorse gray flannel trousers I have ever had. Nam's eye for proportions means than when I put them on, I look just a little bit taller and my lower half a bit less blocky/bulgy. They're super comfortable too: the waist and seat don't pinch or bind when I sit down in them, and as soon as I stand up, they fall back into position without clinging to my legs. Now, one thing to note is, for anyone looking for a social-media-oriented experiential thing, this isn't some hoity toity Kingsman type setup where someone brings you a scotch and you drink it in a room containing way too much mahogany. On the contrary, the shop is pretty cramped and dusty, and you're guaranteed to walk out of there covered in loose bits of thread. But I'll keep going as long as Nam keeps working, because I'm there specifically for the good old-fashioned no-nonsense tailoring where Nam puts together a well-fitting garment for you the best way he knows how. A caveat though, like I touched on before, communication with Nam can be a bit tough, which in the world of bespoke clothes can lead to strange results, since there are so many things that can go wrong. What I did though was wear my favorite pair of trousers when I asked him for these, and let him use it as a guide for what works and what doesn't work. Boom, problem solved. read more

Took 4 pairs of pants to get hemmed. Nam did a great job. He is super friendly and you can't beat the price.I was used to paying $20-$25 to get my pants hemmed in Boston. But with Nam, it was $14 for each pair and he had thread that matched the exact color on my jeans (bright orange/red and a bright green) Only downside, he took about 1.5 week to get them done. Not that I was in a rush to get back them but most tailors would have had this done in a few days. Of course, I could have probably told him I needed them sooner and see if he would adjust. But I will definitely be taking my clothes here. Fitted clothing really does make a difference. read more

I feel terrible leaving such a poor review. Nam is a very friendly person, and I cannot say anything about his quality. All I know is that I went into his shop yesterday to have him hem two pairs of pants and bring in a jacket. I feel even worse saying this, but I honestly felt confused the entire time. I tried to communicate with him what I was looking to do, but there is a huge language barrier. He started measuring me all over the place, which I thought was fantastic, and then started pinning the jacket in several areas. I am impressed by his eye, but I was going for a different fit than he was and could not seem to communicate that. I could have sworn he told me taking in the seam in the seat was $1. I was surprised and said "$1? That doesn't sound right." He said nothing. After the estimate was created, it was $18. Everything with the jacket was very expensive, which I don't think is his fault- but had I known, we could have started the conversation on what I was looking for and how much I was willing to pay. I even tried calling him an hour after leaving and he didn't understand me at all. He said twice that they do the work in the shop. Which had nothing to do with what I was asking. I think a patron needs to be very patient and intentional when speaking to Nam. He was a real sweet guy, but it was a far from pleasurable experience. read more

Best of the best!!!! He is specialized in men's suits and pants. He is a professional and a perfectionist. My husband does not trust anyone else but Nam to tailor his clothes. I also brought in my bridesmaid's dress for a cut and it was also perfect. He also fixed small details I did not notice such as a missing hook, loose button at no charge. He often give his honest opinion, instead of pushing the service, if he cannot do it he will tell you or if he thinks it will not work or you will not like it, trust him he probably is right. He was fast and pleasant to talk to. The price is a bit above average but the service you get is well worth it. You can park on the street or there are a couple parking spots in the back of the store. Small job can be done the next day and bigger job will take about a week. read more

I recently had some pants tailored here. The staff were friendly, and most importantly, my pants turned out perfectly! He suggested an alteration I hadn't thought of that really improved the fit. The price seemed reasonable to me, but I rarely get things fitted so I don't know what's typical. I spent $39 having pants with a lining and cuffs hemmed and the rise shortened. They are open Saturdays until pretty late (4 or maybe 5), which is convenient. read more

I love my suit and the only person in Quincy, I trust is Nam. I got my pants and suit adjusted here. His work is amazing. You can tell he is trusted because there is always 10-15 suits hanging on his wall. He will stop whatever he is doing to help you. Nice man. I'm not sure what's the average prices for adjusting pants and a suit. It was $85 to have my suit fitted and I believe it was $30-40 for my pants. A little on the expensive side for a recent college grad but I'll look good at job interviews. read more

Nam is the greatest tailor! His work is exquisite and he is truly an artist in this dying tradition of hand tailoring. Nam will not just take a pair of pants from you and shorten them an inch when you ask for a hem. Nam insists you try the pants on, marks the point where your calf begins, and the result is a perfect fit. I was shocked to learn that many pants have legs that are cut unevenly, so that one inseam is longer than the other. Thus the importance of trying the pants on before hemming. I've been able to rescue some of my favorite pieces of clothing with Nam's help - he has repaired buttons, holes, and tears for me. I also had him make some custom throw pillows that match my sofa perfectly! Nothing says "put together" like clothes that fit perfectly, and Nam the Tailor can certainly help! read more

The only place that I would go to to get any of my clothes tailored of fixed. They were very friendly and patience, both him an his wife. I came in with 2 jeans that need to be fixed. He told me that it would take up to a week or more to finished because he has a lot more work that need to be done for people that came in before me. I told him that I need these jeans asap. So he told me to come back in 4 days, which I did and and the jeans were finished. They came out great, maybe even better than I first bought it. I will agree with two points other reviewers have made: it can be difficult to understand him and a couple of my orders were late because he was backed up . Stay away people. Heard there was a dry cleaner near Quincy center that was way better and cheaper... do your research don't be like me. Three major issues: 1. Very expensive 2. Extremely rude, he literally YELLED AT ME. I've never been yelled at as a customer in the US. He got so mad at me for not liking the work he did on my bridesmaid dress that he told me I needed to leave because he had an appointment(1hr before close time). He kept pulling down the dress so that it "fit properly" so that he wouldn't have to redo the work. I would have taken that dress to another tailor at that second had he not taken 5 days extra to finish it and the wedding be in a couple of days.. 3. Did not do the work I asked him to - my dress had folds in the back even second time around. He finally told me when I picked up the dress (1 day before wedding) "You don't want folds, you get a different dress". Thanks genius, I'll tell the bride that. Unreal! read more

In 2005, Nam took in my sister's wedding top that had intricate beading. In 2013, Nam took in my dress that also had an intricate folded design and small flower appliques. Both times, his work came out great. His craftsmanship is beautiful, truly. I could not see where the work was done. The only issue was not placing the hook on my train in a more desirable and easy-to-locate spot. My advice is to just be clear about how you want it done as I was not. It is pricey, but worth it! Nam did a really good job with all the alterations during the time I lived in Quincy. This included trousers, denims, and suit jackets. You may have to be patient as he is a non-native speaker. But he knows his trade well. I don't think the prices are too high. I paid the same for alterations at other places. For example, in England, I paid £12 for altering denim trousers. I'd imagine by Boston/Quincy standards, his prices are reasonable. I will gladly go back if I am visiting Boston and has some reason to visit a tailor. read more

Best Tailor EVER!!!! Nam (and his wife) took an impossibly ill-fitting bridesmaid dress and perfected it to fit me. They had to take it in about five inches (around the zipper) and shorten it about seven inches. They also fixed the zipper on my long quilted winter coat seamlessly. It's like a brand new coat! But, the kicker is: Nam's wife had a baby one month premature and the store was closed. I needed my dress ASAP to be able to board my flight to the wedding that I am in. I called and left a message, within 15 minutes, Nam was there in the store. Great service and a great family! read more

I hate to leave a bad review for Nam bacuse he is a decently friendly guy. I brought in a suit to have tailored for a wedding I was going to be in. I thought the jacket was fine and I just needed the pants done. He convinced me to tighten the jacket a bit as well (which I don't feel was necessary, next time I won't). I thought the prices were quite high to have pants hemmed and jacket sured up ($89!) but trusted it would be done awesome. I went to pick it up. Pants were perfect but the jacket...no so much!! He tightened up the jacket but neglected to tell me there would be extra fabric up by the neck causing an obvious bump! It looks awful. He obviuosly knew this would happen since hes a tailor, and wanted to charge me $45 more to fix it on top of the $89 I already paid him!! I tried to discuss the issue with him that the bump wasnt there until he convinced me to do the jacket and I needed it ASAP but the language barrier prevented me from this, so I left in frustration with a bump in my suit jacket for the wedding. His prices are pretty high, and he will convince you to do things that aren't necessary. I was not happy and won't return here. read more

i had a problem. long story short, there's going to be this thing on a far-flung beach for which there really are no hard and fast sartorial rules but it's an event nonetheless. i had originally figured on some regular linen pants and a nice shirt, both of which i had in spades, but later decided i would look pretty stupid if i wasn't in a suit, and i went hunting. have you ever tried to find a white linen suit after stores have brought out their fall lineups? i mean, they're selling f***ing sweaters at filene's basement. it's still running into the 80's, but if you need a wool topcoat. ... nevertheless, thanks to the internet, i found my white whale and it was kind of a steal. it needed to be tailored, and here is where my problem arose. naturally, i took the suit to jack's. unfortunately, as soon as i walked in, he told me he'd be on vacation for 3 weeks. good for him. bad for me. i had read about nam the tailor on yelp and had him in the back of my mind since he is in the 'hood. so, i headed back to the q and i'm very happy i did. nam has a very different approach to tailoring than jack, but he is no less thorough and no less skilled. i've always been tough to tailor and it appears i'm even more so since dropping 10 pounds or so in the last several months. even an athletically cut suit was too full around the midsection. it didn't look terrible, but it didn't look great. nam carefully explained what he was going for and why as he pinned up the jacket and demonstrated how he'd create the final product by basically taking the entire jacket apart and reassembling it. suffice it to say, i'm extremely happy with the final product. the suit looks like it was made for me. nam's pricing reflects both his skill and the amount on work he puts in to each piece. tailoring the suit ran $116.00 but was worth every cent. his turn-around-time of 1 week was excellent. nam's is closed on wednesdays and sundays, but otherwise his hours are very good (typically open to 6 or later) and his shop is a 5 or 10 minute walk from the quincy center t. based on the walls lined with fabrics and all the sample books laying around, i'm going to go out on a limb and say nam will happily make you a bespoke suit or shirt. until that day. ... read more

I moved to Quincy recently and needed a tailor so I found Nam on Yelp because of all the wonderful reviews. What a pro he is! I took a sweater to get shortened and jacket with sleeves that were too long and he did such beautiful work! I'm a perfectionist, and I couldn't find a single fault in anything he did. The seams are perfectly hidden and it looks as if I had bought them that way. I'll never take anything anywhere else. He's such a sweet guy and his prices are perfectly reasonable. I only discovered Nam about 6 months ago, but I am very glad I did. I have had three suits tailored here, one of which I had already taken to someone else, who did a terrible job with it. I have a thin, athletic build, and off-the-rack suits are always too big on me. Nam does an amazing job, and knows exactly where and how to provide an impeccable fit. He worked for years as a tailor at Armani, before opening his shop in Quincy, and it shows in his work. He has a great attention to detail, possesses a wealth of knowledge about styles and fabrics, and knows exactly how to fit a suit to a particular kind of body type. Do you pay more here? I don't think so. I've used a lot of other tailors in my life, and I would say that Nam's prices are commensurate with the quality of his work. He's less expensive than someone on Newbury St, but maybe a little more than most of the shitty tailors who set up shop in the suburbs. In this case, I feel I get more than what I pay for. Also, he shakes your hand on the way out. The dude is a fucking old-school gentleman. Everybody should have a great tailor. I would drive a hundred miles to have this guy work on my suits. read more

When I told him I didn't want my shoes showing and to please fix it he responded "this is the style. buy new shoes." For custom made clothing, this store's prices are far more expensive than others in Boston. $250 for a button-down shirt, $500 for pants, and $2,500 for a suit. In regards to non-custom made clothing, prices are also pretty steep. To fix a broken zipper on a suit skirt cost $28. read more

Nam is so friendly and courteous and he pulled off a miracle for me. I have a winter coat by Laundry by Shelli Segal. It's my favorite winter coat because it's stylish yet keeps me super warm. It's a very unique deep green color. I got so many compliments on it and am so happy I found it. However, I got a scarf stuck in my zipper. I had to rip it out and lost some of the teeth of the zipper - rendering it useless. I love this coat and didn't want to throw it out because of that. So, I brought it to Nam and he found a zipper that matched the EXACT color of the coat. I was so amazed. Cost me $40 which is so much cheaper than having to replace my coat. read more

Ever since I lived in Asia and had all my clothes tailored all the time I am addicted to my clothes fitting well. Nam has great prices and does great work...I'll say it again. We need to support these dying craftsman .It's just cool and it will pay off in the longterm. It promotes having a thriving dowtown area in anytown. But these guys are competing with chains that can pay higher retail rent.We need to aid in their survival. It also promotes reducing, reusing, and recyling.. Not that I don't buy new stuff too. Oh no no no I do...But when I get stuff back from Nam its like I got new stuff gulit-free and sveltey fitted to boot..wooohoooo! read more
