Came in for the first time hoping to sell part of my Pokémon collection. I believe the person we spoke with was Chris. Right from the start, when we asked if he was buying cards, he said: "It depends on the cards and what price you're offering." We asked what percentage he usually buys at, and again he replied: "Like I said, depends on the card. Depends on your offer." Okay... lol. Despite the vagueness, I decided to let him go through my binder. He pulled about half the cards he was interested in and began pricing them--using TCGplayer for English cards and eBay for foreign ones. I was also tracking prices on my phone and logging them into a spreadsheet as I watched him go card by card a few feet behind him. After nearly an hour of this, I gave up following along for the last stack and just estimated the remainder by adding $25 when he was about 80% done with the stack. Along the way, he made some snide remarks about sticker prices I had left on a few cards from when I was selling locally--saying things like, "This is priced at $2, but the last sold was $1... way off," even when the market price was literally $2 and is still $2. It felt petty and unnecessary. Some of the cards I priced also were under priced from the recent increase of market? When he finished, I gave him an honest price of $120, which I estimated was around 80% of market value (~$150) that I had estimated. He immediately shot it down and said "so you're expecting me to pay full price? I wouldn't pay anywhere near full price for these cards" He also called most of the cards "lower end." Ironically, his store's own inventory didn't even measure up to many of the cards that I brought in. The most expensive single to be seen in the display case was a decent $17 Mimikyu card, nothing above that... and many "self made mystery bundle packs" that are shrink wrapped in clear plastic. I told him that the entire price I had gotten was about $148 and that I could go as low as 70% (~$103). It would've saved us both an hour of time if he just told me upfront what his buy rate was instead of having to banter around like this for longer. I'm fully aware that expecting 70-80% of market price is above what most shops pay (usually 50-60%). But I usually sell my cards directly at market price through Facebook Marketplace and TCGplayer. This was me trying to give card shops another chance, thinking it might be worth the convenience. But if he had just communicated his buy rate, we wouldn't have wasted each other's time. He told me to shoot him an offer, I did, and he ended up offended by my offer. To be honest, the entire interaction felt shady--like the kind of shop that will lowball or take advantage of you if you walk in without knowing the value of your cards. It doesn't inspire trust, and I can only imagine how many casual collectors have gotten ripped off. There was also a moment when a regular customer came in looking for a specific playable card. Chris mentioned he might get the Alt Art from my trade if our deal went through and he can sell it to him. The regular asked to check the bulk boxes for it first as he just needed to swap a few rotated cards, and Chris said: "No, nobody looks through bulk anymore. People mess it up--it's a waste of time and money." My boyfriend felt bad and offered to let him look through some of our own playable bulk from the car. Unfortunately, nothing worked out, but at least we tried to help--player to player. The regular later asked to buy the card directly from me outside the shop. I never offered first hand, but Chris got upset and said: "You can't do that. You're still buying product that isn't from us in our store." I understand protecting your business--but this wasn't some sketchy back-alley deal. It was a regular customer just trying to get a card he needed for his deck. At the end of the day, it felt like this shop cared more about profit than building community around the game. Chris had offered the regular to purchase the card's amount in store product for me but I had declined. There was barely anything valued in the singles inventory that interested me that was equal to the card's dollar amount. Before leaving, I tried to at least buy a $2.99 deck box. Chris offered to let me trade in a few cards since they have a $5 card minimum for purchases. I just quickly pulled out these cards from the stack he was interested and offered it to him: * Pawmi 226/091 - ~$0.90 Not gonna lie, I thought this one went up that's why I offered it * Galarian Zigzagoon SV78/122 - ~$0.95 * Sinistea SV52/122 - ~$2.00 (About $4 total now that I fully calculated it). Chris scoffed and said: "You're really offering me less than $3 in cards for the deck box?" There was zero need for the attitude. A simple, "You're a little short, can you toss in a few more?" would've been fine. I ended up just paying with a $20 and walking out irritated.

It was exciting to see this comic place not far from where we live. Husband got our son liking comics years ago and now we take our son to Chris's comics each month. We purchase 3-4 comics every time we visit there and have taken advantage of their comic deals that's stationed right out side the store before customers enter the store. Hindered and thousand of comics, classic ones and they got some gems there too that hold a pretty resell price in the comic world, so check them out.

Pokemon tournament sundays at 5pm! The customer service here is excellent! I was super surprised when entering this store. Tons and tons of new and old comics! I must say its a little small but thats where the fun part comes in (digging for gold) They have a small back room of unorganized comics but came across some good ones. Make sure when you arrive that you have enough time on your hands to search through this store, it may take awhile =) Definately coming back here! My brother started bringing my sons here for comics. My boys love it and buy pokemon cards here and special hard to find cards. Pokemon tournaments on the weekend. A nerds dream. Closed on Mondays. I like that we still have a place like this near by. read more

Called in to see if they carried tcg products before I took a strike down ( I'm from Oakland area ). The gentleman who answered seem to be frustrated with me asking about 3-5 questions and proceeded to ask if I could wait since he was already helping a customer--I said no worries, he then put the phone down and complained to someone about me asking question after question. That being said, if it's too much trouble to answer a few question, I will never do business here. read more

I can spend hours digging in this shop. I came with a list of old comics I wanted to look for; found some and also came out with some other good stuff. Chris is a very friendly guy and can talk comics with you till kingdom come. He also insisted on throwing in some good deals on my comics. What other comic shop does that??? I came here all the way from SF and I'll definitely be coming back! A little messy but that's apart of its charm. Feels like you're going to your friends house to hang in his bad ass room. finally found a real comic shop in the bay! Really cool place. read more

I ended up spending an hour in here out of the blue (after getting a haircut at Madhouse next door, also 5 stars)! Chris was really fun to chat with, so enthusiastic and friendly! I had a blast in here. The store was full of DS players, and there was a huge stash of Pokemon cards! The store was admittedly quite jammed packed with stuff, some inaccessible, but I considered it more like a treasure hunt. I imagine the inventory Chris must be keeping in his head! Very fairly priced and I walked away with some loots! read more

Great comic shop! Been here several times and the staff is very helpful if you need assistance. Came in today for some Spawn back issues and asked if they had more Spawn. The staff were quick to get the Spawn box out for me look through which had a nice amount of older issues. Love the vibe and friendly atmosphere. Definitely coming back and would recommend this store to any comic collector who's looking to fill the gaps in their collection. read more

Went into the store to trade 21 cards that are worth $184.27. Took Chris 40+ minutes to go through them and after he was done, he handed me the cards that he SAID he was interested in, as their top loaders were taken off and the rest were handed back to me. So I believed he only wanted 10/21 cards worth $106. I gave him the number $85, 80% market value and he said he was thinking $65, so we met at the "middle" at $70. He then said ALL the cards were worth the $70, the cards that he said he was uninterested were suddenly in the deal. That is 38% of market value, I thought Legends, AN ESTABLISHMENT was robbing me, but my LGS that only offered 38%? And what do you know, 2 hours later my cards are posted on his Instagram, the first slide alone was $95. Do not come here and waste your time, store is clumped and messy, what a joke. Trade in value was $70, total was $71, after offering 38% of market value, asked me if I had a dollar on me LMFAO. TLDR: Wasted 40 minutes to trade in 21 cards, offered $70 for 10 cards just to say all 21 cards were worth $70 total. Top 5 cards were worth $85 alone. read more

My boyfriend and I were both looking for comics to add to our collections that we were having trouble finding elsewhere. We popped into Chris's Comics and not only did we find some of the things we needed, but other cool things that the owner suggested! And he didn't hesitate to offer to call around and find/order the other things we were missing, very helpful and honest and friendly. He knew a lot about things we were interested in and had many facts and tidbits about them that we didn't know before - he's super knowledgeable. Other than that, there are TONS of things here; action figures, graphic novels, etc. And (...what seems like!) thousands of boxes of comics to look through. An awesome place to find something old, something new, something interesting! Definitely my favorite local comic book spot. read more

If I'm honest, I am one of the owners of Green Machine Comics in Newark. Chris should technically be our rival but he still showed up in our store the first week we were open and offered us advice and helped us get access to things we would have difficulty finding as a new store. He and his staff firmly believe that a rising tide lifts all boats and they are honest and forthright in how they treat other store owners and customers. We love Chris's Comics and we treat them like a sister store, because they treat us like family. read more

I haven't been to a comic book store in years. This is a okay average comic book store. There's not a lot left. They do seem a bit run down, but they are pretty friendly. Pro: They offer me discounts on my comic books without me asking for it. I guess it depends how much I buy that day. Friendly environment and they do keep me up to date with the industry since I've been out of it for so long. Con: They don't have some of the titles I was looking for. When asked they said they would tried to get them, but after going back a couple of times for updates on the book I wanted, they don't seem to remember that I was waiting for them to get it. At least they did direct me to another comic book shop that may have it, which they did. read more

This place is still an amazing place to go to for your Comics, figures, and cards needs. Chris is still a very kind and awesome owner of this business. All of the wares he sells are priced fairly (compared to the current market) and he will never hang you out to dry and try to pull a fast one on you. If there's any issue you have with what he sells, he's always more than happy to talk to you about it and resolve whatever issue there is. I pop into his shop whenever I can and he always greets his customers with a smile :) 10/10 will keep my business here! read more

Chris was a cool guy. Gave me some good deals. Which a lot of comic shops wouldn't normally do, especially if they dont know you. But he was very helpful. My girls love coming to this hidden gem. It's behind the KFC on Fremont Boulevard. Stopped by here this past Saturday for more Pokemon cards for the little one and Comics for the teen. Chris was so nice to my little one, and encouraged her to play in the Pokemon tournament. As we drove away, the teen said "I really like coming to this place. He never treats me like a stupid gamer girl that knows nothing about comics, and he's always so nice to Yanna (my little one) and doesn't treat her like a little kid." I'm happy that my kids feel welcomed here. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable, too! read more

From San Jose, came all the way out to Fremont to explore their comic shops. I was very satisfied with chris's collection of silver, bronze age comics. Best comic shop in Fremont by far! Found a few key issues i couldnt find anywhere else. And got a great price. Made my day! read more

If you have the patience, then yes, go here. If you don't, then this place is actually worth making time for and planning ahead. Keep in mind that there are a lot of comics, the only down side is that you have to dig for them. So expect to be here for over an hour going through boxes if your looking for anything in particular. And keep in mind that most of their items are based off the average prices on ebay without the shipping or better. Also, make sure you deal with Chris directly and no one else. He's actually a cool guy. He is very friendly and will help you find things if you are looking for anything specific. The few times I called to ask if he had something in stock, he would actually stop what he's doing and give you the time of day to find your item and put them on hold. He even creates a great atmosphere for teens and young adults. I came in one time and just saw a bunch of his customers hanging out and watching tv. It's good to know that he would rather have them hang out in his shop watching tv, rather then having them out in the street doing things they shouldn't be doing. What a great way to invest in today's youth. read more

Chris is a nice guy if a bit aggressive in terms of salesmanship. He recommended me an HP Lovecraft graphic novel by Alan Moore, and it was a lot more explicit than I had expected. Still trying to digest the book before I return, but definitely exceeded expectations. read more

I ordered the latest SAGA trades and the owner took my info down to place and order and notify me of arrival. He kept to his word, called, and left a voicemail right away... I think it arrived it less than a week. The prices were great, and the owner is passionate about comics (and the spice of life). I highly recommend checking out this shop, will definitely return for my next comic book needs!

I also noticed the largest collection of Pop Funko i've ever seen, along with walls and isles of action figures, Hot wheels, Comic Books, and some of the friendliest, and knowledgeable staff you'll come by! The staff here have always been…read morefriendly, helpful, they have a comic section with books from the last year or so on the right side of the store which includes titles from Marvel, DC, Image, Dynamite, and a few titles from independents. I have not seen many back issues with the exception of wall comics. They have a pretty large area of clearance $1 comics on the left side of the store which seem to be 2-3 years old books. I like that these $1 boxes are on tables and my back appreciates that they are easy to sort through. They also have an inventory of collected editions which includes trade paperbacks, hardcovers, omnibus, and compendiums. The owner Kerry has tried to help me find some obscure current comic books a couple times which I appreciate. The staff have all been helpful and easy to work with. I believe they do a significant amount of business in trading card/game card these days, but still have a respectable comic offering.

I have also sold many books and other items as well. They do not pay very high prices for the objects. I would check prices before selling there. However, the convenience (they take a very large range of items) can be worth it on its own. They can save you time by not having to try several places that may reject the items because they don't fit their exact customer preferences. Half Price Books is willing to take a lot of items because they are large enough to find a buyer. Finally, I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful every time I have been there so far.

So let's start off with the man himself. Chris use to be in business with his Brother Jeff but the man doesn't know how to be a real business man or how to keep his own shop organized further more. The man can't even afford his own place to live so he's lined his back off with papers over the window and uses the shop as a living space for him and a few homeless people. His girlfriend Heather runs the business for him and he employs the forgotten youth's not paying them at a real earnings or minimum wage mostly in trade another flaw. One employee Brandon is currently battling a sex offender case. He raped an under age female. Lets now go to the positive the shop holds a vary good Pokemon tournament for children. Back to the bad news the predator works at his shop earing trade. Avoid this toxic inviorment. read more

Chris's shop is comic and gaming heaven incarnate! It's location is deceptively ideal too. A ton of gamer friendly food choices surround it, and within you will find everything your nerd heart could desire. I've been to more than a few comic shops in my day and there are more often than not, TWO types of shops...shops where you go to grab your book(s) and don't really feel comfortable/welcome staying longer than 15 minutes, and shops where you feel an ineffable sense of welcome. I love this place and so do my children, Chris and his staff are just the best. They have a large amount of stock in comics and Pokemon Cards, and my children can spend hours here and get the items they want.
