I started collecting Pokémon cards around 6-7 weeks ago and CardArt has been such a safe, welcoming, and warm space where I can go to organize my binders and grow my collection. It can get very busy in the evenings after people get off work and due to playing card events, but looking past that, I think it comes to show that it's a space for community to come together to enjoy and appreciate Pokémon cards, Magic, Yu-gi-oh, etc together! I have asked the staff numerous questions about cards in general because I was coming into the hobby without very much knowledge, but they have been so patient and kind. The card values are also competitive and affordable - great place to visit to get yourself specific single cards for your collection. they also have lots of cute trinkets and knick knacks to peruse through as well. I got a really cute Miffy license plate frame from here as well. Anyway, great space, thank you for being here and being a part of my recent quiet time routine. A great card shop with nice people but scalper prices for products like one piece and pokemon. Most shops now reward local, frequent players with msrp new release products and because of this, I believe they're falling behind the curve of places like tofu trading and Mojobreaks. Like dude if you have players showing up to your locals every week a lot, reward them, even if it's one booster box at msrp. Oh and not to mention they pay 50-60% for trade ins. read more

lol so my GF is the one that got me back into this and now that we have adult money. Time to go crazy the right way. Came here on a Sunday in the afternoon as I had open some packs the other day and realize I need sleeves and some kind of protector. When I walked in there was a whole group of people playing card games, not sure what but an insane view for me seeing this many people in a store. Anyways, went straight for the Pokemon card area and looked for what I needed. Originally needed a binder but I saw a card holder and some maroon sleeves, so I went with that for now until I find something I like. Wasn't sure where the cashier was as it seemed like I could go up to any of them. But they were also casually talking to customers. So it discouraged me a little bit since I didn't want to disturb them. But as soon as one person looked like they were free I swooped right in. I came here back in 2023 and it was great while I lived in the area for a year. Spent $$$ on MtG. Fast forward to last week when I moved back. They are a nightmare. I went to buy Gundam TCG and was ignored for 20 mins. Not even a greeting. I spent $30 on cards as a brand new player with no help from staff. When I got home, I realized I spent $6 on singles that were already in a starter deck. I called them, no answer. Sent 2 emails. No reply. I messaged staff on discord. Ignored. I wanted to know if I could simply return the $6 worth of cards as credit. Never going back. Will NOT recommend. NO HELP. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. DON'T GO HERE! read more

Predatory practices and terrible customer service avoid if you're new to Magic or any other card game. I went to CardArt in Sunnyvale hoping to start my journey into MTG. I came in with a decklist and planned to ask the staff for help finding cards, since I was brand new. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was off. I stood at the counter looking at display cards and got awkward stares and silence. No one asked if I needed help. When I finally spoke up and mentioned I had a Yu-Gi-Oh! collection to trade in toward Magic cards, things got worse. An employee handed me a giant box of bulk Magic cards and said everything I needed should be in there. While I was digging through it, he started pulling Yu-Gi-Oh! cards from my binder without explaining anything. I got distracted, and next thing I knew, he had mixed my cards into their inventory and started pricing them before even telling me what trade value I'd get. I had clearly said three of the cards were sentimental and not for trade. He ignored that completely. When I asked to see what he had taken, he said they were already mixed in. He offered me $170 in store credit... which included my three nontrade cards (market value about $210 for the 3). Luckily I spotted those and got them back, which dropped my credit to $120 market value. $50 trade value for cards worth $210...insane. Meanwhile, I overheard a customer bragging about ripping kids off in trades giving junk cards for valuable ones, while the workers of the store just laughed. At checkout, I had about 50 cards, mostly bulk with maybe one or two worth $5. The total ended up being exactly $120, odd. I ended up totaling out the cards I bought at home and it came out to max $50. I went back another time to give them a second chance thinking maybe it was just the employees that day. But no, most of the staff act the same silent, staring, unhelpful, and frequently complaining about working there. There's one guy with glasses and a mask who was decent, but that's it. It genuinely feels like they heard I was a new player and decided to take advantage. The fact that they have a loyal following tells me everything about who frequents that shop and it's not where I'd want to start my Magic experience or any hobby for that matter. read more

My friends are really into Hololive and saw that the drop for the EN translated cardpack was at a store not too far from us. Just in case, I emailed CardArt's email asking if they would have the packs in stock on the day that we were planning to go. They responded promptly within 15 minutes. We went and bought two of the cardpacks at $60 each. There were more cards than I had thought (I am not as into Hololive as they are but I played a bit of the TCG online with them). The quality of the cards were nice as well (to be honest that is more of a review on Hololive than the store). We had a lot of extra card sleeves from a different event so we gave some to the other Hololive enjoyers near us. They showed off what they got to each other. Quite a cute community moment. I glanced at some of the other reviews and see some negative comments on the customer service. I can't speak on that since when I had gone, the customer service was fine (just walked up, bought the card pack). Could be, could be not but it was fine during our visit so I'm reflecting that on the rating. read more

Recently stopped by and visited as I had heard great things about this store. While the shop itself has an excellent array of singles, anywhere from dollar bins to very high end Pokemon, I unfortunately feel taken advantage of after trading multiple IR's, SAR's and Ultra Rares to them. The employee was not the nicest or welcoming but was willing to go through my binder and pick out cards. He told me "they don't go off TCG marketplace comps...kind of comp themselves". This should've been red flag number 1 but I let it go. So he pulls out about 7-9 cards, I decide to part with 8 or 9...mix of Morpeko Vmax, Hitmontop, Tauros, Ampharos IR's from AH, two Ultra Balls from AH, Startyu Paldean Fates Shiny Rare, a few other Destined Rivals and some older stuff. He scoffed when I challenged his comps offering a whopping $55 for them when I know some of these IRs comp for $6-$12 each. Ended up trading for a $60 GENGAR promo. Again, this isn't anyone's fault but mine, but this experience left a bitter taste in my mouth. Likely won't be coming back to do business anytime soon. read more

Let me start off by saying CardArt has a pretty decent selection of stuff and I really used to enjoy going here. Lots of singles, a variety of packs, and some great merchandise. However, the staff here diminish the quality of the store. They are constantly on their phones and look annoyed when you ask for help. Common courtesy and basic customer service or even basic human interaction go out the door here, you'll be waiting for a while to get any help. Super rude interactions with the staff happen constantly, especially when browsing cards, since there's not a lot of space. The card prices are also quite high in comparison to other shops and the card quality isn't really there either. Such a shame to see such potential in a shop squandered by such irresponsible staff. read more

This was probably one of the toughest reviews I've had to leave in a long time. I'd moved into the Sunnyvale area a little while ago and was super excited to find a card shop so close to my new place! Stopped by after work one afternoon and the initial reception was great. The associates greeted me promptly, were really nice, and when I inquired about whether or not they'd be willing to work out a deal if I ordered multiple then the associate initially helping me said he'd be happy to work something out. I spent maybe the next hour going through their Pokémon IRs, checking conditions and looking up each one I'd set aside for MP and value trend, comparing them to the sticker price they'd listed. They were pretty busy that day so when I went to check out with a different associate I made an offer, and even stated I'd be open to negotiation. While nice, the associate stated that she wasn't the best person to price out a deal, and directed me to her boss. Also totally fine, completely understand. It wasn't until I interacted with their boss that my experience went south. He didn't even make eye contact, first and foremost. Just splayed the cards across the counter and said, "yeah no. These don't move, so it'll only be sticker. I can't do anything for you." Then he went back to whatever it was he was doing. Didn't even hear my offer out, counter, or even let me down nicely. It was extra awkward because both associates I'd been working with were there, the first of which who'd initially agreed to work out a deal, turning around to cast a blind eye. Honestly don't blame him, if I was talking to his boss. It wasn't a lowball offer at all mind you, it was easily $150~ of product and I'm not trying to scam a small business or anything. These were just for my personal collection, and cards I was interested in having. I'd also stated off the bat when I first came in that I was only really interested in IRs, so if the price was firm on those then I wish they would've just told me that. It's also not like I picked out any super high $$$ IRs either, most were between $2-5 with a few in the double digits, and the highest stickered at $35 even though MP has gone down. After that interaction I honestly contemplated just leaving. I didn't, didn't want the visit to feel like a complete waste of time, but I did cut out some of the cards I was going to get. When checking out the sales associate apologised profusely, and I expressed how awkward it had been especially since I'd been initially told that a deal could've been worked out. It was kind of hard to feel good about the purchase after that though, honestly don't know if I'll be back. If I do return, it likely won't be as a buyer. read more

CardArt is the best that I have been to in the bay area. I have been to this card shop on and off for the past 2 years for YuGiOh products specifically. They offer very good pricing on a multitude of different products that has been very hard to beat. I drive out to this location from the East Bay for specifically this reason. I've seen some negative reviews about the customer service here and as someone who works in the service industry / hospitality industry, I can confidently say that the owner + employees here (at least the ones I have talked to) really do try to help out to the best of their ability. 2 years ago, I was an amateur yugioh collector who was looking to sell some of his cards and it was quite clear that I was new. Instead of ripping me off / scamming me, which other cardshops had done to me at the time, the associate at CardArt took his time to go through all my cards, and showed me the reasoning / pricing with me. Earlier this month, I had asked an associate about which sleeves he would recommend playing with, to which he recommended the duels specs and even allowed me to test them out with his cards / deck (which was a really expensive deck btw). And just today, I had a question about pricing on some cards that I had already purchased. Instead of waving it off / hitting me with an "all sales are final", the owner, Ryan explained to me the rarity of the product, the market pricing and even offered to allow me to return the cards if I didn't want to be stuck with them. NO cardshop is going to offer a return like that, and I can personally speak to that having been a regular at 2/3 other shops in the area. It is possible that my experiences are unique, and that I have just been a lucky guy. But I think that even if so, they ultimately attest to the effort, care and expertise that Ryan and CardArt goes for. Will be coming back here for the foreseeable future. read more

I'm not into playing or trading cards at all but I do enjoy coming here to look at the cool anime stickers and merchandise that they have. I have bought a couple car decal stickers from here for my friends who play Valorant. They mostly have all them in stock but run on the more expensive side for $10/sticker. They also have plushies, figurines, and etc. We also purchased a license plate cover from here because it had a cool Demon Slayer design on it. I also really like coming here because when we are on this side of town, we usually wait for our order at Sunright Tea (in the same plaza) to be made and kill time looking around here. I always see people here playing card games too however it is a small space a lot of people come in one area so it can feel mucky sometimes but overall I enjoy coming here! read more

As a fan of Pokémon and returning Yugioh player after a really long break I decided to check out this store in the area. To make this long review short, I did not leave disappointed. Now to make that short review long... The entrance had a tower of plushy toys and I ended up getting one for my daughter. They had a table with Vintage Pokemon VHS tapes that would go great with any collection. There was lot of stickers and decals on various anime characters. The middle table had plenty of deck boxes, play mats and other collections. A table on the right had a big box of MTG singles to go through so there's a little bit for everyone. The main counter was where all the good stuff was at. They had old collectibles, custom stickers, Pokémon and Yugioh singles, binders and boxes to go through. I looked through a few small boxes of Yugioh singles and found plenty of cards I needed to build a deck with since I'm a returning yugioh players. The challenge with this is in most cases the cards aren't priced and needs to be priced according to current TCG market value. Took a while to get my cards priced but I'm happy overall. I went here with a few friends the other day and it was a fun experience for us all! We were there to look at Pokémon cards and they had a lot! They had a box (or boxes?) of bulk my friend enjoyed going through to find cute cards:) and then behind the counter, you can ask to go through the other boxes! Staff was very patient and kind (I hope there's a full art Oddish for him one day!). I will definitely go back one of these days! It looks like they have events at night! If I could give less than one star, I would! I came into this store with my friends, looking to buy some Weiss Schwarz for the memes. While buying the booster box, I respectfully asked the aging balding Middle Eastern gentleman who works there if he could check TCGplayer for the price of the box, just to make sure that the price they were pricing it at was fair for not only me, but for him as well. Captain Bald proceeds to go on a tirade, stating that he doesn't care what TCG prices are and that that's the price he set it at. I would've checked TCG myself, but my phone was dead, so I couldn't. Seeing this tirade, I was dumbfounded and told him to keep it. Regretfully, I probably should've told him to shove it up his a** as well. He proceeded to say negative things about me to obtain reassurance from customers already in the store, which really shows the type of person he is. Knowing fundamental attribution error, this gentleman was most likely having a bad day, so I won't put this completely on him, but it is bad business to not only be pissy with the customer, but refuse to confirm the pricing is accurate with a reputable marketplace for such TCG products. read more

Came in here for the first time and saw 5 people behind the counter. All of em head down doing their own thing sorting cards, on their phone and one guy just talking about a card match he played. Business was slow and I've been 5 minutes and zero eye contact, zero welcome in, zero need help, zero looking for anything specific. Can't even tell if the people behind the counter are actual employees or just friends of the store. I had to get their attention to get some help and when being spoken to, the guy couldn't even put his phone down and talk. Browsed a bit more and just left. Been to a bunch of other card shops/card shows and felt way more welcomed and helped. Other card shop places give off better vibes, strike up conversations with you as a new customer to feel welcomed and not just only cater to their regulars. read more

CardArt is THE place to go if you love to play or collect any trading card games like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. I've been to card shops throughout San Jose and CardArt unquestionably has the best selection of both sealed product and singles. I've spent hours browsing through their cards and I never leave without finding something to bring home. Honestly one of the best things about this place are the people who run it. They are super laid back and approachable, and you can tell that they are true fans who really know their stuff. They also happen to be very reasonable with their pricing which is a huge plus. So many card shops charge over-market for their stuff to the point where as much as you may want to support a local business, it doesn't make sense to buy anything when you can get it all cheaper online. Thankfully this place isn't like that, and I always feel like I'm getting a fair and honest deal. Beyond the actual trading card goods they have tables to hangout and play the card games as well as a really cool collection of old video games, manga and Pokemon merchandise that is sure to bring a lot of nostalgia for anyone who grew up in that world. They also have a section featuring artwork and stickers from local talented artists, all themed around video games and anime with some really amazing stuff. All in all, CardArt is an awesome store and I'm so glad that they opened a place like this in the area. This is hands down the best card shop in the bay, with the best representatives from all around the bay who regularly top regionals/qualifiers for Pokemon/Yugioh/Magic, etc. Pricing is really great and they always hook it up! They have a lot of bulk for so many formats, modern vs retro, draft for MTG(?) etc. They also collaborate with local artists that bring in cool stickers and DIY projects for all your hobby needs. There's a monitor that streams all the time and during a tournament, the monitor starts a timer which is a huge plus to track during game 3! Facilities wise, 6/5! AC is always spot on. They have cold beverages inside their mini fridge, a gatcha machine, cool art/stickers from 3rd party sponsors. Literally best card shop to buy magic, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh singles and sealed in the Bay Area. The store is super knowledgeable and understands what's playable so you don't have to shift through bulk for hours like other card shops. And going to the store reminds me of the awesome used goods stores in Japan because people trade in stuff from cards to video games to anime goods. They also have a lot of in-person events of the Big 3 TCGs while also supporting many other Japanese TCGs like Weiss Schwartz (English and Japanese format!) and Shadowverese. This is a great card shop in the South Bay and I'm really glad to have a LGS like this one. The staff are all kind and welcoming, the prices are reasonable, and the events are ran really well. I've been coming here for Magic and the turnout for commander nights on Wednesday is basically packed every week! There also appears to be a great turnout for Pokemon, YGO, and Vanguard as well.
