We had high hopes as we walked in and saw a full restaurant . However in the last 5 years this was by far the worst food I have had . The hot and sour soup tasted like it was combined with old old beef broth and no sour. I sent the soup back as it was so bad. I have not sent anything back for at least a decade . We keep going back, primarily for takeout, and Chow's continues to be a great option. Tried something new last night, but I'm not sure if we just missed it in the past or if it's new: Wildfire Beef. New favorite, very unusual. Tender beef smoked with applewood smoked tea, nice flavor and heat from chipotle and cayenne pepper. Outstanding! We had two of our favorites for years: Coffee Chicken and Walnut Shrimp. Ordered online, picked up pretty much on time, and well packaged. The food was excellent. Be aware that if you order for pickup when they reopen for dinner (5 PM), everyone else has the same idea, and there may be a bit of a wait. Best to get a pickup around 5:15, then it should be smoother sailing. Not sure about recent very negative reviews, as we've been ordering pretty regularly for over a year, and the food has always been excellent. read more

I ordered thru Door dash. Food came very quickly but the wonton filling tasted like the filling had spoiled. I threw them away. The orange chicken was over breaded and over cooked-Very chewy. Visited on Lunar New Year. We were seated quickly and then surprised by fireworks outside the window celebrating the Year of the Snake. Service was quick and excellent. Food was fair. One friend was disappointed that the Kung Pau had no peanuts nor peanut flavor. My shrimp was delicious. Another guest had a tasty dish that I'm sorry to say I dont recall. When we got our bill it had an extra 3 percent sercharge to use a credit card no one had mentioned this until I noticed the $3 extra dollars. When I asked they would not take it off they pointed out the bill says dual pricing which means nothing to anyone but them. If I went and got cash I could get the menu price and I saw the host rolling his eyes at the waitress like we were being a big problem. I don't mind paying for something if I am tod before hand and will not return to chows. Probably most people don't notice and definitely to go people have no clue. Chows attitude to customer service is oh well go to the bank while they should understand credit card fees suck but they should make it clear from the start. Third time is a charm. It was 2 o'clock-ish and the first two places we went to were closed...on a Saturday! We spotted this place with a neon OPEN sign and decided to give it a try. So happy the other two joints were closed. It's so pretty inside. Very beautiful and calm atmosphere. Our waiter seated us and was attentive. I ordered one of the lunch specials featuring chicken mushrooms, red bell pepper in a sweet/sour sauce. It was not overly sweet, which was perfect for me. The chicken was succulent and the veggies were still crisp. So good. We also ordered the sesame beef, which came with a jar of pepper sauce. We loved that! This way I didn't have to miss out, because the dish was too spicy. We could add the heat ourselves. Wish more places had that option. Anyway, the sesame beef was crispy and flavorful. Though we were among the last customers for the lunch seating, we were never rushed. So nice. We will have to come back during dinner service and explore more of the menu. read more

I'm from out of town and I went to this place with a local friend to order take out. The individual who took my order was snarky and impatient as she tried hard to make me feel stupid for not knowing the menu better and not knowing if rice came with the entrees. (It does not.) The food was pretty good. One entree was missing from my order but I was not billed for it. I'm okay with that. I ordered white and brown rice and only got white. No biggie. I politely asked when it was my turn, "just out of curiosity why he had helped them prior to me as I was waiting, he said because they were here first." Being from out of town, we had no real expectations. We selected the place from Yelp. We were seated immediately and the young waitress acknowledged us and said she'd be with us shortly. We ordered the combo Lo Mein and the combo Fried Rice. Both portions were sizable enough to share three ways and they were fresh, hot and delicious. I returned to Santa Fe after a 5-year hiatus and was in the mood for Chinese food. I remembered Chow's as being a good place for authentic dishes. I called in an order to be picked up. Mongolian Beef and Crispy Tofu appetizer. Although the container caused the tofu to become soggy, it was underwhelming. The dipping sauce was watery and not very flavorful. The Mongolian Beef had more flavor, but the dish was extremely greasy and while the portion of beef was plentiful, it was not cooked in the traditional Mongolian style and was more like pepper steak style with no veggies but only onions, lot of them. Unfortunately, when I got home, I realized there was no rice included with the dish. No Rice at a Chinese restaurant?!? Lastly, while I waited for my order, I couldn't help but notice the ambiance of the dining room was dismal and run down looking. I understand the restaurant had been sold by the long-time owners and under new management. The carpets throughout the restaurant were dirty and worn out. Chow's is delicious. I've come often with friends. Yes it's more expensive than other places but the food is phenomenally better. I've never had a dish here that I was disappointed in. Today I stopped by just for a side of white rice, and it is during covid. They have an almost zero contact setup. You walk up to a table with the credit card machine outside they speak to you through a microphone and hand you your food through a sliding door. I commented to them that it was a great setup. I ordered something easy so it was fine to just walk up but if you want food to pick up you should call ahead or plan on waiting in your car. they are not doing indoor service right now. KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! These guys do such an awesome job. Food is always well prepared, hot, fresh, and actually among some of the best Asian food in town. Had the Orange Chicken, Moo Goo again Pan, and Pepper Beef along with fried Udon (AKA pot stickers), and Hot And Sour soup. Every bit of all of it was delivered maybe 5 minutes after the projected time, but certainly in a reasonable time. This is our family's GO-TO Asian place, there's something g for everyone. read more
