I don't appreciate waiting more than 5 minutes in front of a register when there isn't even a line...watching the cashier clean counters the entire time without even the slightest bit of acknowledgement. I also don't appreciate waiting 30 minutes for 2 meals when again...there are no other customers. And finally I don't appreciate watching the woman preparing food and drinks EAT simultaneously WITH HER HANDS while she does this. It grosses me out. I'm sorry but this is why I don't like Filipinos...and I am one! Ugh. read more

I come here for The halo halo. Not cause it's good but cause it's convenient. The drink itself isn't bad but it's not as fresh as jollibee. So if you are like me and don't want to deal with the crowd at the great mall for halo halo at jollibee then chow king is a quicker stop for your halo halo fix. read more

Two stars only because of the food especially when you're hungry. But Chow King. So sad, your service is rude. Minimal best at times when you're not busy chatting it up. How long does it take to fry food? I have ate here numerous times since I have time to kill for lunch, however, service has not changed and food still takes.. for..ever. 1. Food is ok 2. If you're in a rush. Go to the other restaurants. 3. Service. If you're passive with service. Come here. Otherwise, don't expect a 5 star customer service. 4. Halo Halo read more

You know its bad when they mess up your order and give you all this extra food... but still you don't want it! That is exactly what happened to me. I will give them one star..ehhh because their chicken was aiigghhtt. I think the only thing that tasted right was their rice. -Spaghetti was horrible -They were genius and put my hot taho in a plastic cup which melted - Halo halo was shaved ice with colorful tasteless stuff in it - Pancit noodles were hard - Gravy tasted like there was dish washing soap in it Throw in the towel chow king, throw it in! *shaking head* Here is an IMPORTANT tip: careful where you park, I had the pleasure of getting my car side swiped in the parking lot right outside! read more

THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR CRUNCHY CHICKEN, YET NO LONGER SERVE MORE THAN 1-2 PIECES OF IT. SHAME. They've totally changed their menu getting rid of all the party tray items. They no longer serve large amounts of their crunchy chicken or their Filipino Spaghetti. They basically got rid of what I felt was their best tasting items. Good one! read more

I come here for one thing and one thing only.. The Fried Chicken. The fried chicken is a guilty pleasure of mine, you can really just taste the comfort in the food; knowing full well how much fat is probably in that piece of fried food you're biting into. But it really is worth it, if you're not watching your figure that is. But really though the service here is what you expect from a fast casual restaurant and even though its a very fast transaction, there isn't any additional service that makes them standout beyond the norm. Definitely a spot for Filipino comfort food; but its not something I would recommend eating every day. read more

The cashiers at Chow King can be total snobs at times. The younger workers are very friendly, but the older ones, I am not too fond with them. Apparently me asking for Thai Iced Tea w/ pearls without ice ticked the lady off for she expressed a great amount of annoyance and "oh you're a kid what do you know about good food" type of attitude towards me. She smacked the receipt flat down in front of me. All right, cool. And the iced tea was watery. Watery, I tell you. Watery. read more

Best asado siopao! Thank goodness they offer frozen siopao so I can steam the buns anytime. Beef stew noodle soup is really good too!.

Filipino fast food! Tasty and affordable. Their menu is extensive - filipino styled fried chicken, noodle dishes (dry and soups), lumpia, pork buns, desserts and smoothies, etc. They also have $9.99 large 6 person party trays of almost everything on the menu. That's a great deal and it's made in 5-10 minutes. Feed a whole family. I tried the tocino breakfast $6 with garlic rice (yum), eggs, and fried fish (tasty). I really liked it. Fatty and oily though, but tasty. I got some other noodle dish with shrimp $4 and I really enjoyed the unique flavors. Lastly, I tried a noodle soup which was bland. It had egg yolk and thick noodles, but lacked meats / seafood and wasn't that good. I'll definitely come back for more. read more

I'm usually the type that avoids Filipino restaurants, mostly because I'm eating food mom makes at home for more than double the price and for the most part, doesn't taste half as good as mom's. But the truth of the matter is, it's hard to avoid when I literally live, "Ober the Bakod" (Filipino pop culture reference; translation: Over the Fence; in other words: I can see Seasons shopping center from my backyard) So, just in this year I've tried food from Chow King. I think even while I was traveling the Philippines I avoided it like the plague. Alright, so enough of my ranting. You got the gist: not partial to Filipino Restaurants. But after experiencing a few items from their menu, I have to say, definitely worth your while and your pocket. PROS: - BEST halo-halo, I usually go for the largest size because of the additional ingredients. And is usually split among 3 people. It's massive, can't imagine tackling that monster on my own. - Bangusilog? If that's even a word. Basically it is Bangus (deep fried milk fish belly), garlic rice and an egg sunny side up. Delicious, not salty at all and definitely not greasy. Pairs well with the garlic rice. I usually opt out on the egg and it's just as delicious. - I hear the Tapasilog is also good, I don't have first hand experience of this. CONS: -They take FOREVER for your order. Honestly, I think I wait on average 15-20 minutes. Even the halo-halo takes forever...all locations are like this...I think corporate needs to revamp their prep techniques. I thought this was fast food? read more

I come to this location about once a week for their crispy fried chicken. I personally put fried chicken under two categories: Breaded and Unbreaded. So the type of chicken they offer is the breaded kind that competes with Jollibee, KFC, Popeye's, etc. The Unbreaded types are Max's and Savory. I think the fried chicken here is better than the ones at Jollibee, and about the same as KFC as far as taste. The gravy the comes with the chicken is better than Jollibeel, and prices here are better as well. The thing that gets me at this location is the way it is managed. Every time I come here for lunch, it's as if the employees are all running around, overwhelmed. Where there were 2-3 employees working the registers during weekday lunch time when they first opened a few months ago, there are now barely two (including the stressed out manager). Food is not always ready as quickly as it should be either. I think there is only one guy working in the kitchen the last time I went there (Sept 2, 2010). I almost was asked to wait 15 mins for 6 pieces of chicken that time, but thank goodness they had exactly 6 pieces in the warmer left. I felt sorry for the next guy who ordered chicken behind me. What's with the soda fountain? More than two months ago is the last time I saw this working. This I think is BS. I owned a restaurant before and I know these fountains are sponsored by the drink maker (Coke or Pepsi). It there is a problem with the machine, they come out to fix it or replace them. The 'reason' I was given 2 months ago is that they couldn't get the CO2 tanks. Chow King people, if that is the problem, here is the website for airgas: http://www.airgas.com/.... they deliver! I want value for my money and that means being able to get refills on my drinks, I don't want them in those cans I normally get from the grocery store. To Chow King: we have plenty of choices in Milpitas. I do not have to eat at your restaurant. Savory, Max's and Goldilocks are within a few steps of your location. You need to get your act together. Two stars, that's it. Can't give anymore than that. At least not right now. read more

This branch served a better halo halo for a chain restaurant. It was my first time to eat their halo halo and was a convert. Hehehe!!! The portions of condensed milk, ube ice cream and other fix ins for this sweet icey dessert was just right... not to sweet, and a lot of chunks of ingredients - saba banana, red beans, macapuno, leche flan, shaved ice, etcetera. read more

i had brunch here last weekend... i shoulda just had TOP RAMEN at home! commercial filipino food just doesn't cut it, sorta like eating at a buffet... the quality aint so great and the taste is definitely NOT authentic. if you're a Filipino reading this review and you disagree with me, its beacause you're family don't cook great Filipino food and you have no idea how Filipino food really should taste, REAL TALK! read more

I was not a victim of the "long wait" since my orders were pretty simple, two black jelly drinks (formerly known as black gulaman, also known as sago't gulaman) and two [chunky] asado siopao to go, however, the girl in the back whose job it was to make halo-halos had no breaks! People were ordering 4 at a time! We do have a Chow King inside Seafood City in South Sac/Elk Grove, and yes, they are not up to par with the Chow King restaurants in the Philippines of course. The Bola-Bola siopao is good too, and sometimes I go for the breakfast, specifically bangsilog. The halo-halo is also something I don't order often, more like a special treat. This trip the gulaman was pretty sweet for my taste, but the siopao really hit the spot, especially with their asado sauce. read more

Oh Chow King...I do not have patience to wait for arroz caldo while you let my crunchy chicken sit in a box and wilt. Please keep my chicken under the heat lamp until it's ready! I had an impatient day which was probably 15 minute wait for fast food. That aside The arroz caldo is standard and the chicken is enjoyable when still crunchy. I feel like I'm at a disadvantage with my non Tagalog speaking self though. I will be back when I have patience and my mom or dad with me. read more

Chowking - Cravings satisfied! Yummmmm - Chinese Near Me - Milpitas, California

I'm not the biggest fan of Filipino fast-food chain crossovers in the U.S. The food is always better in it's land of origin. Anyways, I've only had fried chicken and siopao from the chain as a whole. The chicken has a unique taste to it, I can't put my finger on it, but it tastes somewhat like Chinese roast duck, maybe allspice? Maybe wrong, but it's good. Siopao comes in two sizes, normal and cutiepao. Served with sauce packets. I don't approve of filipino places that try to sell you siopao with "sauce included inside" of the actual 'pao. Yeah, that's not the way it's usually eaten, and tradition is pretty hard to break. Chow King offers sauce packets. Yum. I can't imagine myself even considering a review for Chow King. However, I ordered their $9.99 chicken special once and the cashier asked for my name. She spelled it correctly. No one can spell my name correctly 9 out of 10 times. They even yelled out my name the same way my mom yells it at home. My ears sparked up like a dog when it hears it's owner whistling. Place for classic filipino service, where they still address you as "Sir" or "Ma'am". read more

Halo halo was good! oh man i missed it so much! altho, the food didnt taste thesame. Chowking in the philippines is hella better! and these cashiers should smile more, sheesh! lol Im surprised that they dont have the "lauriats" anymore. they have the "king-kong meals" instead. and the beef wonton soup was kinda bland.but all good. this made me feel like i was back in the philippines.. ahhh read more

I was in San Jose for an event and wanted some halo halo. We don't have Chow King in San Francisco so thought we'd try it. I love the Chow Kings in the Philippines! Unfortunately this was not the same. As with most Filipino chains here in the US they are disappointing. The halo halo was just meh. I also ordered the taho and it tasted old yuck. Also had asado and bola bola siopao which were OK. Like I said, nothing compared to the ones in the Philippines. Well Yelp has their rating right on this one, sorry. read more

This is one of those places one would go to once in a while when you're craving for some filipino food. Not that the food is bad, but the location makes it hard for someone to go there. The one in Landess Avenue by the Seafood City plaza is the one I am talking about. The fact that Chow King is by Seafood City, Goldilocks, Valerio's, Chef P's, and etc. makes the business last in terms of eating Filipino food. One thing to note though, the halo halo is the best there, better than The Grill City and Goldilocks! read more

Gotta love chain Filipino restaurants. The Chow King in the Seasons Marketplace (aka the Seafood City on the border of Milpitas and San Jose) is pretty awesome I'd say. The staff is really friendly and the food is always awesome. Make sure you ask for their arroz caldo! Its not on the menu, but they always have it. Its the perfect thing to eat when you don't feel well or if its super cold. read more

Think of this as the Micky D's of Filipino Food. Yes there are better Filipino restaurants out there but it's quick and cheap. Oh and they are a lot less greasy than Goldilocks. What pisses me off about this place is the service and they are ALWAYS missing stuff. It's like they don't even want to be there and busy talking among each other. Hello?!? I'm right here trying to place an order!!!! I heard they're owned by Jollibee, maybe the good employees get promoted there and this place gets the rejects. I have yet to come to this place and have a damn complete order. Once I ordered tapa/bangus silog and they were out of bangus! Another time they were out of eggs. Always seem to be out of taho, the pearls and even bottled water!!! I mean there's a grocery store right across, can't you go buy a case of water or eggs? I have to order my meal, go across the ways and buy bottled water somewhere else? read more

I ordered the "Beef and Wonton Noodle soup" to-go. I came home and saw that it came with 2 tiny pieces of beef, and two tiny wontons. I went to eat a wonton, and it was a mouthful of RAW dough. This is the first time I ever went to eat here. We ordered the Lauriat chicken with noodles and rice, with wonton noodle soup. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned, something you would never get at KFC or Popeyes. The soup had a nice, rich broth which I enjoyed. They serve dim sum and other vegetarian options for a very cheap price. The service was very fast, but the employees weren't happy at all and considered talking to each other rather than working. read more

Waiting is SUCH a pain. Ugh...at least food here is better than Tokyo-Tokyo, which is 2 or 3 steps away from Chow King. Haha. By the way, this Chow King is inside Seasons Market, next to Goldilocks. I ordered the bangus, scrambled egg, beef tapa, and garlic rice combo. My first time trying this combo meal was in San Diego during a quick lunch. I had enjoyed it so much that I ordered it here. Unfortunately, it wasn't as tasty. My bangus was anorexic. Um, I'm not sure if they saw but I'm 6'1, 215lbs. I know that they have a specific portion size, but dang, I'd like more fish meat than dried up skin. Their scrambled egg did not taste like real egg - maybe that yolk mixture you can buy from Wal-Mart or Fresh and Easy. My garlic rice was pretty good, nice big heap of rice. I'd like it to be a bit more garlic-y (lol) but it's good. Not that much MSG - great job guys! And last, my tapa. I love tapa. It's great; however...it wasn't as tender as I wanted it to be. Why? I'm glad you asked. The marinade was really good so I decided to save the super big slice I got for last. But guess what? As I tried to slice this tapa, my spoon broke! Yeah, I know, you don't slice food with a spoon, but the guy at the cash register told me they didn't have any. I was so happy to eat this last slice of tapa but NO...I had to see it go bye-bye in the trash rather than my tummy. GRRR! (Pieces or the plastic from my spoon broke and went on the tapa, which is why I threw it away). Chow King, you're great for a quick lunch, but I wasn't satisfied with my meal. I'll order something different next time and maybe it'll be better. read more

For Filipino fast food, it's OK. I think I had my first home-cooked Filipino food around 1980, so I may be spoiled. I'm a big fan of their pork buns and a small fan of everything else. Yesterday, I tried their egg rolls for $1.99 and they were sad. I only come here when I'm waiting for my tilapia (or golden pompano) to be cleaned/fried at Seafood City. I spent a month in the PI a few years ago and ate Chow King there maybe 5-6 times. The food seemed better there. read more

One thing to know about this chain: it's Chinese fastfood in the Philippines, brought here. Because it's fastfood and it is imported, you can only expect so much from this place. (Trust me, it's much better in the Philippines). With that being said, this place ain't as bad as the reviews it gets. I mean what other fastfood place offers pancit and tilapia to wonton soup and sio mai to spaghetti and fried chicken? Exactly. What I've actually tried: - chicken noodle soup: bland and a little dry - beef wonton soup: tasty broth and tender beef just the way I like it - sio mai: good enough for fastfood - sio pao: exactly what I though it would be - grilled tilapia and rice: fish has a lot of flavor and cooked to the right texture...yuuum I've also heard the fried chicken is much better than Jollibee's, but I have yet to try it. And there seems to be a wide selection of Filipino desserts. As you can tell, I keep coming back to try this place. There's still a bunch of stuff left to try... 4 stars for fastfood: fast service, affordable prices, diverse menu, clean and spacious with lots of parking. And plus, it's in a spankin' brand new mall area with a seafood city and a beard papa's inside (and next to a Max's restaurant!). Filipino food everywhere! read more

I came here for the popular Halo Halo Classic and was disappointed. Horrible lines, and you can't hear the lady speaking your number due to the loud chatting volume inside the food court mall. Seeing how I ordered with my girlfriend, I thought they would at least give me two spoons, but had to go back to the register after finding out they only gave me one. Also the Halo Halo Classic picture on the menu is an outright lie. All the colorful items you see, such as the fruit or other side items come in ridiculously small amounts or none at all. Most of the time it was simply just a ube milkshake (they put so much ube in). read more

Okay haven't eaten the whole day and didt wanna drive far or wait for my food but I didn't feel like American take out food anyways so came here ordered garlic Chicken lauriat how complicated is that? So they got my one single order wrong and it's inexcusable cause there wasn't anyone else but me and two other people. On top of that the girl called me "ate"! Are you serious? Girl you're probably older than me. Doesn't mean that I don't wear flip-flops and a shirt that says "last Friday night" doesn't mean I'm older. Soooooo annoying. But anyway about the food, it was okay. This is the type of place where if you want something cheap and fast and of you live close or is planning to do a little fresh food shopping at seafood city, this place actually lives up to it's reputation. But the halo-halo disappoints. The HH back home in chow king is definitely better. Havent tried the congee and it's one of my faves back home so will update once i try it. The fried chicken here is alright. Not the best out there (Savory Chicken is better), but it's darn cheap! They also have Filipino noodle soups. I don't know if it's indicative of Filipino noodle soups in general. I do see A LOT of Filipino patrons ordering the noodle soups and they do appear to be enjoying it. Personally, I thought it tasted like crap. The broth had no flavor. The wontons were pathetic. So, go here for the cheap fried chicken meal. Skip the noodle soups. read more

It's unfortunate that I even have to give 1 star to this place. If I could give negative stars I would. Absolutely THE WORST SERVICE. This specially goes out to Cherry Ann J.- The "manager". When we tried to call over the phone to place an order she was rude and placed us on hold for 15 minutes until we just hung up and decided to drive over. When we got there the place wasn't busy and the entire staff was chit chatting. My coworker tried to place an order and she wanted to do separate transactions and this bitch Cherry Ann had the nerve to roll her eyes.
