My wife and I have had the pleasure of eating here twice now and both times we were not disappointed. We got the crazy ribs which were phenomenal, slightly crispy yet melt in your mouth tender, they were perfectly cooked. The steaks were excellent as well, can't go wrong with a chargrilled steak. The NY strip was perfectly trimmed, the only fat left on it was like butter. The ambiance is very soothing and elegant but not to the point where you'd feel uncomfortable eating here with your kids. Dinner with co workers. I had the 9 oz sirloin with asparagus. Started with a side salad. Salad was good , nothing special. Steak was very good, nothing usually great. Nice experience. Went back just a couple weeks after our first experience and wanted to try a different dish. Boy am I glad I did, it was delicious!! And the Twisted Ribs were just as good as I remember from the first time. Our server did a pretty good job for a busy Friday night, though I did run out of my drink and had to ask for more. I really love their set up and decor, it's a mix of modern farmhouse, some glam, and some urban vibes with the ceiling. It's really fun and a nice option in downtown Kannapolis. read more

I've been here several times since they've opened and it's just not good food. I really wish it was because kannapolis needs a good restaurant. Came in for graduation dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is very nice inside love the exposed brick look. The chairs were comfortable and tons of space I like they didn't try to stack tables on top of each other. Our server Julie was just great did amazing with larger party and everything came out perfect. The bar tender is the next super star all the drinks tasted great. First time at Chophouse 101 and we'll be back! Nice atmosphere, has the look and feel of a traditional steakhouse. A mix of other patrons, from casual families to well dressed date night couples. The menu was rather simple, not pages of options which was refreshing. Good beverage options, although not an expansive wine list, at least that I saw, if that is your thing. Menu was focused on beef, and had a number of lunch, or lighter options. I had the NY Strip and my wife had a Prime Rib. Both were cooked as desired, with good flavor. We were late in the game to make reservations for NYE. Using opentable we found a spot here for 8:30pm. Great! We arrive early so that we may enjoy a drink, first. We were called early to our table which worked out since, unbeknownst to us, they were closing at 9. We ordered our meals and then just enjoyed ourselves. We were given 2 rolls and when my husband asked for more we were told that they were out, or not making them any more. We thought that was strange. They did bring us 2 more rolls. We noticed the restaurant clearing out. My husband's salad was served, not mine. The waitstaff was not around for some time but once they came back out I asked about my salad. She looked dumbfounded like, what salad? Eventually my salad was brought out with my meal. Ok. We each ordered 9 ounce filets, medium. They were closer to well-done, but still tasted fine. Our check was brought to us with our desserts. It really felt rushed. If you close at 9 and you are a sit-down restaurant that allows 1.5 hours per table (as posted on their sign), DO NOT ACCEPT 8:30 RESERVATIONS. This was our second time coming there and while we want to support local, not chain, restaurants, I really see no need to return. read more

Have eaten here a few times.. started out great but slow went down hill.. the food has lost its flavor and uniqueness.. last few times the food has been cold and tasteless.. the service is so so.. you have to ask for things and wait a length of time to get them.. 101 of serving is making sure the table has silverware.. no one wants to sit and let they're already cold food get colder waiting on silverware... and if someone request a sauce at the time they order, it should be plated when the order is brought out.. also hate seeing my food sit in the cold window getting colder.. The establishment is beautiful and always clean.. if the food and service were at the same standard as the cleanliness of the facility, I would definitely give a five star.. not giving up on these guys are really enjoy eating here read more

Mine was on the salty side as if too much soy sauce was used. My shrimp was fried a bit hard and tasted like the oil was starting to get scorched. I imagine parking is difficult when there's a game at the stadium. There might also be a wait to get seated. You have to get the twisted ribs. It worth a visit just for the ribs, and that whipped cinnamon butter that they serve with the bread. I truly enjoyed this restaurant. Nothing pretentious. Saw a couple pictures online and decided to give this place a try , I did not regret the hour long drive at all , it was some of the best food I've ever had and the service was phenomenal. I am usually a steak type of guy but decided to try the fried chicken sandwich tossed in medium sauce , and it was by far my favorite it was perfectly cooked and just the right amount of spice I was looking for. The appetizer was simple cheese fries but even that was over the top and was great. My lady friend got the 6oz steak and this was the fastest I have ever seen her eat a steak (she's usually a slow eater) the sides were also very good and just overall a great experience !!! read more

I would like for this place to do well. Location is prime. Decor is decent enough. Not too fancy and patrons wore from jeans to suits. And though I like Journey, I'm not sure the volume level was right to match the room. They have the name. When you see Chophouse, you think steak, and usually upscale. This is not that. They are trying but can't pull it off with their current food supplier. This was our first time to try it out. Online we saw a 9oz filet for $31.00. It's too good to be true. First of all because the in restaurant price is $34.00. Secondly, the steak was inedible. After not cooking it correctly the first time, the meat looked like mush- similar to liver. It's like it was frozen, microwaved thawed, poorly cooked and a bad cut to begin with. Literally could not eat it. The service and manager were nice and understanding about the situation, which was good to see, but our Anniversary was a total bust. Until they say "new menu", I'm not sure I'd ever go back. read more

First time here. Ambience when walking in was nice. I ordered the $47 bone in ribeye, the most expensive steak on the menu. I requested medium Pittsburgh Style but I was told that Pittsburgh Style could not be accomplished. When the steak I arrived I cut into it and it was a SOLID well done. Who I assume was the general manager, the older lady with shoulder length gray hair brought the steak back over and pointed to a small section that had just a tiny bit of pink left and said...look the steak is fine. I said it is not cooked a medium." After she tried a second time to talk me into keeping this 1/4"-5/16" thin steak, she brought me one back that was borderline rare. After I sent that one back, she finally brought one that had a little bit of pink in it.. my advice to them is to invest in a Thermapen thermometer. They are extremely accurate.. I asked the lady if they had any options for steak sauce and she pointed to the drizzle that was on the plate and she said look....we put you some right there. IM NOT JOKING . She did finally bring me some A1 sauce. My overall review of Chophouse 101 is that is a wannabe high end steak restaurant but falls way short. The prices are a little cheaper than a high end steakhouse, but not cheap enough to warrant that inferior kind of product. Made a reservation for 5 at 6:45pm on a Tuesday after Memorial Day. We were seated after 20 minutes at tables that were open when we arrived. High ceilings add to volume but we like the noisy dinnertime chat. Old style open ceiling and ductwork keeps it modern and fun. Appetizers were very good. Peppered ahi flavorful served with a good sauce over lettuce carrot mix. We all tried margaritas and enjoyed each one, just the right amount of everything in them. Varying steaks and a prime rib for main courses were all cooked perfectly as ordered and seasoned without overpowering the flavor of the cut. The issue is with the AC the room we were in was at least 15° warmer than the other room Not sure what was going on because the open air kitchen likely contributed to the issue but something was wrong and it kind of ruined the experience as well as the ambience. I've been to Chophouse a few times now (Brunch, Lunch & Dinner). Overall, I've enjoyed each visit. 1. Food: For brunch I tried the salmon with Mac n cheese. It was pretty delicious. For dinner, I tried the Parmesan crusted chicken & veggies. It was good but nothing too special. During this visit I learned that they charge for extra rolls (only 1 per person). For lunch, I had the broccoli ' cheddar soup. This was by far my favorite. I've also tried a couple of their desserts. The strawberry cheesecake and Key Like pie really stand out. I would recommend both. 2. Atmosphere: The restaurant is decorated very nicely and is very spacious. Its great for an intimate date night or a large group. They were able to easily fit my group of 20+ for brunch. It's much more casual than I expected. Some were in business casual, some were in shorts & tees. Both are perfectly fine. While you're visiting, please save time to walk around downtown. The shops are pretty awesome. read more

Chophouse 101 has all the makings of a 5 star restaurant to complement the greatness of downtown Kannapolis, but the food is just 3 stars. It's just middle of the road. Hear me out. The restaurant itself has lots of seating. Its inviting warm atmosphere has wonderful, friendly staff and any questions you might have they can answer them right away. So, the food. It came out as ordered. It was hot. It tasted fine. It just wasn't anything I couldn't make at home. There was no "wow" factor. No pizzazz. My chicken definitely needed a sauce other than pico de gallo. And my friend's salmon dish was tiny. Now maybe it was the plating...and that's what I mean, there was no flair to it. So was my whole experience a three star? No. Will you be disappointed if you go? No. But my food was just middle of the road. Hence, three stars. read more

Our family was in Kannapolis for a baseball game today and decided to stop into Chophouse 101 for a late lunch. Our server, Carlos, was excellent and very personable. He went above and beyond to provide our family with the best service. I really enjoyed the pasta dish with chicken, mushrooms, spinach, and sundried tomatoes while my husband and son shared a mushroom and swiss burger. This was my first time to the adorable downtown kannapolis area and we had reservations here with a large group of friends. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and all the staff was friendly. We waited at the bar for our table to be ready. I ordered cocktails and my husband and I both thought they were pretty weak. We were seated and the bread service is delicious. I ordered the twisted ribs as an app and they were phenomenal. I was really optimistic for the meal at that point, I ordered salmon as my main with a side salad and sweet potato fries that my friend had raved about. Husband got a rib eye with mac and cheese and normal fries. The salad was alright. My salmon was a little overcooked and way too salty for my taste. The sweet potato fries tasted old and not good. My husband said his steak was ok but his mac and cheese was way overcooked and pretty nasty. His steak fries were alright. Definitely a cute spot and I would consider bringing my kids here, but I think I'd head elsewhere for date night. Invited a long time client to lunch and it couldn't have gone better. Great service, down home attitudes mixed with upscale atmosphere. Cool. Prices are notably fair and the cuisine exceeded my expectations. My Creamy Penne pasta was loaded with sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms and freshly shaved parmesan cheese. Delicious. Some Yelpers are simply unfair. Once you dig in deeper, however, you'll discover they diss almost everyone--grumbling haters with nothing to say. Exclude them and you have a wonderful restaurant anchored on a prime corner investing into the vision of renewal in Kannapolis. We were hungry downtown and tried Chophouse 101; glad we did. The menu is varied for a steak place and everything looks great. We had burgers, nachos, and shrimp - all of which was great. Also, the drinks selection is very good. Service was friendly and quick but they weren't too busy when we went. I can see it being a little trouble to get the best service when they are full based on the modern layout of the place. It looks nice though. As most steak places are, it's pretty gluten-free friendly although they don't specifically make any special effort to be so. read more

We stopped here for a bite to eat while on our road trip. Food had no taste and was bland. I had to sprinkle a hole bunch of salt on my pasta. Services was not so good. We sat at the table for a while until an associate finally came over and offered to get us drinks. Eventually the server came over but wasn't really friendly. Seemed to be in a rush. I think he was taking care of the bar table top too at the bar. He asked one time how everything was while literally while walking by our table and not stopping there and asking. We didn't even have time to ask for refills on our drinks. The restaurant place was designed really well and it looked nice but food wasn't appetizing and good and service was terrible. was sitting in the park with the cutest of chicks and as the sun sank toward the horizon I suggested we might get some dinner. a quick Yelp-search and a peek at Peter's whirl-o-meter directed us to Chophouse 101 directly across the way so there we were... Greeted, seated, and waters in short order. our drinks (something blue for me and malbec for her) arrive shortly after the breads and by then we've decided on steaks... add onion rings and smasheds for me, add veggies and a stuffed tater for her. my Delmonico came out all hot and happy with a warm red center brown on the outside and lightly marbled like all good steaks should be. cuts easy with the proper knife, with deep flavors and a tiny bit of chewness. rings are hot, thin, crisp, and abundant; smasheds are a hot garlicky mess otherwise know as yeah! my date was pleased with the petit filet she received although she only managed half her meal. not surprising since her tater was large and stuffed with stuff and paired with a pile of cauliflower, carrots, and broccolis and she's just little. dessert was a fancied up triple-chocolate mousse cake with chocolate and caramel drizzled on just a little too much whipped cream which photographs almost as good as it eats. thanks wendy :-) read more

The service was great and I love the atmosphere. We were hungry so we pretty much ordered everything! We started with the wings and the onion rings. Both items were good. We then ordered the filet, porterhouse, and the center cut along with different sides. The filet and center cut were very tender/flavorful. The porterhouse was a bit too tough for our liking. I have been to the Chophouse twice now, and while I think the menu provides a little something for everyone and the food is good, their service, from the hostess to the servers to the managers, leave a lot to be desired. On my most recent visit, a birthday dinner that included a party of 5, my family arrived 15 minutes before our 5pm reservation. As we stood at the hostess stand and witnessed an almost empty dining room floor with plenty of staff milling about, we were told, "You need to wait so our servers have a chance to catch up." I have to say the response was a real head scratcher. What I wanted to say in response to the matter of fact hostess was, "Catch up on what, gossip?" First, no employee was running around, closing the rings on a fitness tracker at 4:45pm. Second , if you've ever been to the facility, even before it was the Chophouse, the basic layout hasn't changed. There's a very small foyer at the entry point. Short of making yourself part of the wall decor, asking a party of 5, with a reservation, to wait when there are plenty of empty tables in the dining room shows very poor situational awareness. Did I also mention that it was pouring rain at the time? We just wanted to sit, take off our wet coats, and warm up, away from the cold entry area. The evening didn't improve much after we were seated, not a minute before 5pm. The dining room isn't very big. It's not the Sizzler, where acres of seating options await any hot bar, salad bar, or dessert bar grazer. There are a few booths by the windows and maybe 10-12 tables in front of the kitchen. My point is that there were plenty of staff people standing by the kitchen and talking amongst themselves to service even a full restaurant. When I see staff people standing around while I'm waiting 5-10 minutes for someone to greet me and take my drink order, I start to seriously question whether or not the establishment actually wants my business. I don't care if my assigned server is otherwise occupied. Someone, even if it's a hostess or manager, can take and / or fill a drink order and get some bread on the table. While I'm on the subject, one of my biggest pet peeves at a restaurant is drink refills. Unless I'm consuming a beverage like I'm taking part in a frat house drinking game, I should never have to ask a server for a refill while I'm dining out. This was one of those times where my family had to constantly look for our server, then ask for refills, boxes, and a check. My wife ordered a steak. She likes her red meat served red, but she usually orders it cooked medium. Her logic is that most people order steak medium, the cooks are used to cooking most steaks medium, and while she prefers more red on the inside than pink, either is better than well done and brown. Her steak came out practically well done, with very little pinkish color in the center. My wife is not one to complain or to send food back to the kitchen. She would have eaten the steak without saying a word, but since our server actually took the initiative to ask about the steak without a prompt, my wife responded that her steak was way overcooked. When a steak has to be recooked, not only are you sitting, helpless, hungry, and without a meal, you're watching the rest of your party eat their meals, and and some point, the rest of your party will sit and watch you eat your meal, long after they've finished eating. A situation like that makes for a very disjointed, and awkward, social and dining experience. The manager returned in about 10 minutes with another steak. She apologized for the inconvenience, but then she walked away. My family and I aren't freeloaders and aren't looking for excuses to enjoy an entire meal without paying. A replacement item as quickly as possible and an apology are a great start to solving a problem with the meal, but there has to be something more. Offer my wife a drink, offer her a dessert, or offer to compensate her meal. If you provide a good cocktail or dessert, the recipient is likely to share it with the rest of the table, and suddenly we're all eating, drinking, socializing, together, at the same time, and the evening is back on track. We didn't leave hungry, but we also didn't leave satisfied. When you go to a nicer restaurant, sometimes the server will ask, "Are you celebrating a special occasion?" I'm not one to embarrass a person with a sombrero, whip cream on their face, or a show tune, but it's nice when a restaurant employee wishes you a happy birthday and thanks you for celebrating with them. That level of service and attention to detail costs nothing. Would I go back to the Chophouse? Probably, but when I spend more than $100 on a meal, without tip, I expect a lot more in the way of service. It all starts at the top. If the manager isn't going above and beyond, the employees certainly won't either. read more

Pretty solid place! Brand new on the newly refurbished downtown Kannapolis. The restaurant features pretty good steaks and other entrees. Decent priced meals with great quality. Kids meals are available at affordable prices. Wine list isn't that extensive but there were some good options on the menu. The sauce that comes with the steak isn't necessary. Steak does not need sauce people, just stop with that. Steak needs salt and pepper, that's it! I have not tried the appetizers or desserts this time. The bread is really good!
