This is my second time at Chook chicken. The first time I tried the soup and the squash side dish. Both were delicious. Today, I was told by the woman working at the front to try the chicken salad sandwich. Oh my gosh, I am so glad I did! This chicken sandwich is the best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten. Honestly. Chook was recommended to us by a couple gfs, so we finally decided to give it a try. In a word, DELIC! We got our meals to go: 2 - 1/4 white meals. We asked for piri piri and BBQ sauce and got two red sauces, one was hotter and had an M on it, so I'm thinking it was the macha instead, which I'm not mad about. We also got the mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and lamingtons. We were early, so we sat and had beers while waiting. The space is nice! The staff was friendly. First off, the chicken was so great. Perfect texture/moistness. Great flavor. The sauces were good too, although as mentioned, not positive what we got. The mac and cheese was bland and slightly gritty. After dumping a ton of sriracha and salt in it, it tasted ok. The consistency of the sauce was good, but there was no flavor, which I'm always fascinated about... must have used provolone or some other pointless cheese. The mashed potatoes themselves had great flavor and texture. The gravy, which I'll bet was made in house with leftover carcasses or something, while the flavor was good, it was just super light. It tasted like a poultry gravy. Not bad, just ok. SO now, the lamingtons. Admittedly I've never had them before, but damnit these were delicious! an unbelievably bad customer experience. I was with 3 other people and we all ordered. When my order came, it was like to forkfuls of salad and when I told the server about it, all she could say was to talk to the manager. So, I did just that and she basically said tough luck to me. No offers of a larger salad; no offers of a comped salad; no nothing!!!! And when we left, my other 3 friends said that they had never seen anything like what happened to me. The salad by their estimates, wasn't even worthy of being called a small small. I would bet the they will not go back either. And rude at that!! so, chicken. so many different ways to cook it! this method of grilling/rotisserie is really good! i can't get enough of the chimichurri! the sides they offer are unique and super tasty! we usually order chock for two which is a half chicken, two sides, and a small salad... and it's way too much food! Several months ago I went in for lunch. Only one table was occupied. Cashier that took order wasn't in exactly the best, most welcoming mood. There was an expiditer working the counter opposite the kitchen. I was watching him as the guest with me ordered their meal. Orders complete, continued watching him. He took his hand, black glove on and swiped the top of counter. He then picked up two "plates" two bowls replacing one bowl. He then took the same hand he had swiped counter with and put his fingers inside one "plate". Serving up the mashed potatoes followed. We took a seat. Waited around 7-8 minutes. The guy then brings out the meals. I asked him what the purpose of the gloves were, "to protect his hands, or to protect my food". I told him what I saw him do. His response, paraphrasing, maybe my lying eyes didn't see what I saw him do". I got pissed stat. Then I reviewed what I witnessed. Needless to say he concurred, however made no apology. In addition because the potatoes had sat for 8 minutes they were cold. I had been to this location before, meals were good, this one not so. Had been wanting to try Chook for a while and finally had the chance. Ordered the chicken for 4 which includes whole chicken, 3 sides, salad & 2 sauces. Definitely enough for four. Chicken was juicy. Smaller than what you would buy in the store. Smashed cucumber was a great side on top of the salad. Charred veggies and cole slaw was also bomb. As I said a quick prayer they were open I was thrilled to see they were! I had been here many times over the summer enjoying a good meal on the patio so I knew I was in for a good dinner! I ordered the chicken for 2 (half a Chicken) mashers & gravy, those awesome rolls and something new, the winter beets & Berry salad. It was enough food for two days for two people! The next day I added in the left over chicken into the salad. I didn't think I'd like blueberries in a salad with delicata squash but it was awesome! Not my first visit definitely not my last! The modern classic look of the restaurant stood out to me as we drove by tonight, so I convinced my husband to stop in and check it out! We were pleasantly surprised with everything that we ordered! After hearing the story of their opening and their ability to pivot to a takeout-focused business when Covid hit, I just felt the need to rave about this place!!! The chicken is on point, full of flavor and all the juice. The Mac & cheese took second place for me, but the chop salad was my husband's favorite!!! This is a great spot to get takeout or a quick lunch if you're looking for something a little lighter than typical takeout. It takes a lot to get me excited about salads, but Chook has done that. I was looking for a somewhat healthy delicious meal. This rotisserie chicken did not disappoint. I got the meal for 2 which came with 1/2 a chicken, 2 sauces, 2 bigger sides, and a salad. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy, tender and the skin was just right . The 2 sauces I got were Chimichurri and Peri Peri. I expected the Peri Peri to be slightly spicier but it was still good. The chimichurri was on point. The sides I got were the wedges with sautéed vegetables. Whatever that seasoning was on the fries was delicious! I could probably eat way too many of those lol. The breast meat was a bit better but everything else was burn your lips kind of salty. Gravy was tasty but very salty as well, piri piri was good. Carrots in the carrot salad and charred vegetables were charred beyond recognition... I like a good char but these small, black pieces were inedible. From the moment you walk in, everything about Chook makes you want to return. From the beautiful rotisserie chickens roasting over charcoal to the incredibly friendly staff, this place makes the experience enjoyable. We went on a Saturday evening and though seating is limited we were able to sit down at once and after looking over the menu we decided to order the Avocado chicken sandwich, potato wedges and smashed cucumbers. My husband went up to order our food and when it arrived I was less than surprised to find that he had order the lambington for dessert. The cucumber side should not have tasted nearly as good as they did-- it was primarily just cucumber slices, but at the same time it was so much more! Seasoned to perfection with a light vinaigrette, mint, cashews and other delicate additions, it tasted less like the vegetable your mom serves up and more like what you would imagine being fed by fairies in an enchanted forest. The potato wedges were incredible, but you have to like softer foods- my husband does not typically care for wet or soft food and said that they tasted good but weren't his favorite. I, on the other hand, thought they were some of the best potatoes I'd ever eaten. Our chicken avocado sandwich was not what either of us had imagined but was incredible! It would make a perfect picnic sandwich, bursting with flavor, almost like a chicken salad style with delicious, tender chicken inside. All through the evening leading up to our meal, my husband had been in a less than pleasant mood but all of that changed at the end of our meal when he bit into the lambington. It is a delicate yellow cake with a touch of berry running through the middle, the exterior coated with chocolate and coconut. As soon as my husband took his first bite I watched his face transform into a smile as he began to sing praises of the little dessert. We will most certainly be visiting again! read more

My second visit to the Pearl St location (first since COVID) and loved it all over again. My boyfriend and I shared the meal for 2; half chicken with 3 sides. The chicken was juicy, flavorful and tender. We enjoyed all the dipping sauces served with it. The grilled broccoli salad was amazing and we really enjoyed the roasted acorn squash topped with goat cheese and toasted almonds. We had fun sitting near the open kitchen watching the chef work her magic on the rotisserie. The chicken is amazing at Chook, it is so juicy with well seasoned skin. The sides will make me come back again, especially the celery-apple slaw!
