Love love love this food. They are different from most of the Mexican places around here, and the reason I say that is because the flavors are more bold in my opinion. What a gem to find in Inland NW. I've never had this good of a Mexican food since living in LA almost 5 years ago. My husband always craves it and every time he suggests going here or getting takeout, I could never say no. The portions are amazing for their price, even the kids' meal. The restaurant vibe is so authentic, adding to the whole experience. All the servers we encountered are so sweet and whenever we order takeout, they come out very quickly. First off let me start off by saying I'm from Southern California, so I tend to be unimpressed with much of the "Mexican" food up here in Spokane and CDA. However, when I walked in and saw the lady at the counter speaking Spanish to a customer in front of me, I was hopeful. I ordered a California Burrito with no pico and added light sour cream-- I normally would have done street tacos but I felt like this place maybe would get the burrito right. Thank goodness I trusted my gut because the first bite I took of this thing was packed with flavor! Thank goodness the meat was juicy, flavorful and just like CA Mexican I know and love. The fries were crispy but soft enough to absorb the rest of the flavor. Just the right amount of all toppings as well. When I say I POWERED THROUGH eating that burrito I sure did! It was so bomb. I will not be going anywhere else when craving Mexican food. So thrilled I found this place. I also will say it was packed in there! I can't say enough GOOD things about Choo Choo Tortas. Their service is amazing - super friendly and happy to discuss the menu and recommend suggestions, and they have a clean and well-stocked dining room. The ambiance is fun and bright and colorful - they lean into the train theme, but in an inviting way. The restaurant renovation they did in 2023 really helped the flow and opened up the space, and the bathrooms are MUCH nicer now. And that's not even mentioning the AMAZING food! I usually get a Torta because they are the best! I LOVE the Cubana but any of them are delicious. Definitely get the red and green salsas in the fridge - they're homemade! They also have Tostada de Ceviche now and it is DELICIOUS! Tilapia "cooked" in citrus juice and combined with tomato, onion, and cilantro served on top of a mayo covered crispy tostada. Oh, and don't skip the homemade agua frescas. I just had a mixed fruit one that was not too sweet and had a strawberry-forward flavor. And my husband loves that PERFECT horchata is always an option! Good, helpful counter service with table delivery. We had the Cubano Torta, and the Ahogada Torta. I've never had their Tortas before. Essentially a Mexican sandwich. The Cubano was packed with fried breaded pork, ham, sausage, and more. ( Even a hotdog) The bread appeared to be home made. Slightly chewy, fragrant. Nice sauce and condiments. Good, creative sandwich, easily large enough for two. The Ahogada Torta was same bread, covered in a spicy sauce, with tender Carne Asada inside. The smell of the carne asada torta reminded me of Burger King no joke. Workers are friendly and their drinks are good. Melon fresca is where it's at and will probably be my summer go to. I haven't had anything else on the menu and figured if you're going to have torta in your name, it's probably going to be what you specialize in. My buche street tacos lunch were robust, and the great house rojo/verde salsas made every bite samba sabrosa. A dining option not found in these parts much, regrettably. They also nailed the carnitas on my wifey's Sopes; crispy exterior, great pork flavor, tender, but with a gentle amount of toothsomeness that made me believe it was prepared fresh that morning. When you hear about "The most authentic Mexican place in Spokane" you go there ASAP. My LA taco truck lovin tummy has been in dire need of a few good tacos! Choo Choo was good. It wasn't great. I ordered the torta and I don't think it was the right choice which is surprising since the place is called Choo Choo Torta. The Torta bread was perfect but there wasn't enough meat or beans to average out the flavor. So my Pastor Torta tasted like bread and lettuce. My husband ordered the Carne Asada Burrito and he also said it didn't have enough meat or beans that the burrito tasted like mostly rice and tortilla. I think I will go back and just get the tacos where the meat is usually the star and hopefully that will raise my star level. I have to agree though, the place seemed more authentic than any other Mexican place I've been. read more

Choo choo's might be known for their tortas, but equally delicious are their street tacos! The El Pastor is my personal favorite. Since the weather was so warm today, I decided I needed to try a Chamango, one of their many frozen fruit drinks. This one was full of ripe mango, mango pure, shaved ice, chamoy sauce and shaved iced. So incredibly refreshing! I can't wait to come back and try some of other fruit flavors.
