As Mexican food outside of California goes, this wasn't bad. I got the flautas- one chicken, one shredded beef. Both were big and the meat was juicy! The beans were decent, but the rice was over seasoned with cumin in my opinion. The drinks (sunrise and sunset) were more juice and really sweet. The place was cute and it got packed, so people in the are must like it. The service was okay. The lady gave my plate to my brother in law saying that it was his taqueria. Having never been to the place, we were all bragging about how big they were. But then she came out with the real taquitos and I realized they were the flautas. Very good tacos and burritos. They have a good crowd at lunch, all hankering for yummy Mexican food. They are not the best tacos in Post Falls, but they are good. The burrito though is very tasty and rolled right; doesn't fall apart so quick. They could improve service my making sure entrance to the parking lot from the Mullin side is plowed well in the winter. I'm sometimes afraid of being stuck in the snow there. Otherwise, the service inside is good and they will answer your questions, and my wife had many. They were patient and accommodating. We return for the good food and service. read more

We have been looking for a decent Mexican restaurant the last 6 months and i will say this has got to be best in the area. Staff was super nice and was prompt on chip and salsa refills and drinks. Food was great with excellent portion sizes. Husband ordered a chile relleno and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. We will definitely be returning. read more

In our opinion this place has the best Mexican food in all of North Idaho. We moved here a couple of years ago and have been searching for the kind of Mexican food we're used to, this place is the ONLY one that comes even close. Great salsas, fresh hot chips, tacos, enchiladas, tamales and more are all excellent. I personally love the asada street tacos and shredded beef hard shell tacos. My husband loves the tamales and enchiladas. The margaritas (mango is awesome) are great and huge. Very clean restaurant and restrooms. This is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Kootenai county. The Carne Asada is delicious but most of the time I just go with two Tacos with shredded beef and I'm always HAPPY! They actually fry the shell!!! No packaged taco shells. The service is great. Everyone is always busy taking care of the customers. The ambiance is comfortable, you don't have to put on your best dress, wear something that expands so you can enjoy endless chips and salsa. Prices are fair. I've compared menus to other places in town and they're all about the same BUT at El Ranchero you're getting your monies worth. I'm originally from CA and I've eaten a LOT of Mexican food but El Ranchero has been my absolute favorite in the Pacific Northwest.This place is family owned and operated and they are doing a bang up job. Everything is SO good starting with the chips and salsa. They bring you mild and hot salsa and they are to die for! My husband had the carne asada taco meal and the presentation alone was phenomenal not to mention the taste. All of their food has so much flavor. We are thrilled to have such a good place to eat so close to home. I'd give them 10 stars if I could!! read more

This was as close to Air Force chow hall Mex as I've had in decades. Not my choice--of course--but I let my Wifey choose a safe place for a Grandma/Grandpa/Grandknucklehead lunch, and in retrospect, it was okay in that regard. I was lobbying for my grandkid's first crispy pork stomach experience in street taco form, but she would not let it happen. Recently a very disappointing experience. We go there once every week or two. Best Mexican food in Kootenai County. Unfortunately, yesterday we had the following negative circumstances: 1. Server completely messed up one of 3 orders, totally wrong food. 2. A side order was completely forgotten. 3. A side order of rice was cold and absolutely lacking in flavor. 4. The ground beef tacos were badly over salted. 5. Terribly overcooked, DRY white mean chicken tacos. In general, server seemed to be having a very off day at best, couldn't give a **** at worst. When you see the signs for El Ranchero just keep going. Justin our waiter had no clue whatsoever. Ordered coffee and water. He stated it may take a while since he had to make both. We ordered an Enchilada and Taco and a Chile Relleno. When he brought out the coffee instead of placing the cups on a tray, he carried them out one at a time. We had to ask twice about the water. The Chile Relleno had no flavor, the refired beans were watery and had no color. When we stated that the Chile Relleno was the worse, we ever tasted, Justin stated that was the best comment on the Chile Relleno he had ever heard. I would hate to hear what others had said. Either they learn what "Authentic" means or they work on getting a better product out. read more

Went for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised. Greeted and seated immediately, the chips were warm and fresh, the two salsas were yummy. Only negative was no sangria on the drink menu. We ordered the chicken fajitas and the steak fajitas, both priced right ($16.95 per), both offered the traditional rice and beans, along with sour cream, a little lettuce, and guacamole. Do NOT do takeout! My wife and I have been to El Ranchero, dining in, several times and have been pleased with the food and portions. The spicy hot salsa is amazing!. However, Saturday, I decided to do their takeout since I was ending my week at work and wanted to take some home to my wife. I called and completed my order at 1:35 PM and was told it would be 30 minutes. I arrived 35 minutes later and they told me to "take a seat, it would be a while"...mmmm okay. Finally, at 2:33 PM my order was brought out! 58 minutes after I had placed the order! Not OK!! The restaurant was less than half for the entire time that I waited so there was no reason for this. To top that off, when I finally got the food home, there was almost no Carne Asada in the burritos. Way to ruin a good thing El Ranchero!! read more
