Updated 9.4.26: I was wanting some Mexican food and since our first visit here was great, I thought to try it again for a consistency check. I'm happy to report food was plentiful and delicious and service was awesome. We were greeted and sat immediately and chips and salsa followed right behind. The Enchiladas Del Mar plate sounded tasty and I went with that. My roommate ordered the Friday special of the day, which was a Chimichanga (with carne asada), beans and rice, and a cup of chicken enchilada soup. My roommate really liked the soup last time and this time was no different. Our food arrived super hot, looked amazing, and tasted great from beginning to end. My enchiladas had plenty of shrimp and flavors all melded together quite well. My roommate's chimichanga was HUGE and he said it was packed with a lot of meat. Definitely happy Las Chavelas is now a regular go-to spot and plan to try the fish taco platter next time. read more

We visited this quaint Mexican eatery encouraged by the positive reviews. The ambiance, food and service was on point, and did mot disappoint. The quantities were generous and the prices were reasonable. Though it isn't the best Mexican food I have tasted I did feel it was value for money. read more

SAD that this basic Gringo spot COULD NOT serve a simple order of chips, beans and meat to a mother & daughter looking for simple food in 45 minutes .. ALL attention went to a party of drinkers. Almighty $$$ instead of feeding hungry family read more

Good service at a decent price for typical American Mexican food. Still looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant in CDA

We were looking for a good Mexican restaurant with ground beef options. This location has great margaritas, service was on point and food was amazing. Chips and salsa come with an option of spicy or mild salsa. We will definitely be back! read more

Las Chavelas - Margarita - Mexican Near Me - Coeur D Alene, Idaho

Being used to California Mexican food. Unfortunately las chavelas wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The drinks were good. They had $9.00 tacos The menudo tasted like it was old or from just the can? My chile relleno wasn't as fresh as what I'm used to. But they do have great costumer service ,our waiter was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. Lots of parking and the restaurant is small but lots of seating. read more

Great food. Husband loves their tacos best of any place in town. Nice people working there.

Delicious Mexican cuisine! We enjoyed a very generous "Taco Tuesday" deal: 3 carnitas tacos for $10 total, served with rice, beans, tortilla chips, and salsa included. The restaurant was very accommodating with takeaway orders, too. We'd strongly recommend Las Chavelas for anyone visiting Coeur d'Alene. read more

Service was good, the waitresses were nice, the food was not good. I'm a native Californian and this was not good. The tilapia tacos tasted so nasty, like old fish. The rice tasted like it was a day old. The only thing that was good was their michelada. read more

We had a sick kiddo this weekend while we were in town. All she wanted was a tamale with beans and rice. She has always loved Las Chavelas' Spanish rice the most. Even with her being sick she chowed down on her meal. Portions were very filling and my daughter and I had enough for left overs the next morning. The hot salsa and the carne asada burrito were the best. If you are getting it to go I suggest asking for the burrito sauce on the side so it doesn't get soggy. The food was ready incredibly fast even with them being slam packed. read more

My friend and I went here Mexican food is my favorite! I'm always looking for a great Mexican food truck or restaurant! We had Pollo ala Crema it was good for the most part but luke warm not sure if it was done and sat before it was brought to us or not! The rice here was over cooked and quite bland. We also tried the Plato Mazatlan OMG I'm not sure where they get their fish but it was disgusting!!! My tummy gets a little queasy just thinking about how gross it tasted my friend also agreed we also tried the tamale in my opinion. It was very dry and lacking.Staff was pretty friendly here but the never asked if everything was ok with food when it was obviously not eaten! I would give the cleanliness 3.5....In my opinion it was a waste of hard earned money!!! read more

Fast and friendly! Went on the recommendation of a friend and was not disappointed. Had the carne asada tacos and the carne asada platter. Chips were fresh. Everything was great. read more

Really good American Mex. All your faves on the menu are here, along with some house specialties mixed in. Lordy, they give you a ton of food. Wifey's Fajita Mix was enough to feed 3 people, if you had enough tortillas. Flavors were spot on, too. Our waitress was a sweetie, and all the staff were smiling and friendly. While we love the traditional Mex fare that we find in Central WA, it's always nice to visit an all-things-for-everyone joint like this every now and then. It's a great option for the Panhandle folks... read more

My Sunday go-to! I've been going for over 20 years. Taco salad, fish tacos and taquitos are my favorite!

Kind of a dive, but the food is legit texmex. Tacos are crispy not the fake shells. Beef is tasty. Chips and salsa are great. Friendly staff also! Go! read more

Finally!!! Authentic Mexican food!!! It took me awhile but thank goodness I finally stopped in today. I had the taco plate w/ 2 carne asada & 1 carnitas tacos. Wow! The flavor and quality of meat was amazing. I lived in San Diego for 30+ years and know quality Mexi when I taste it. You won't be disappointed. This place is LEGIT. The service is also awesome-the two gals working today (Tue July 11th) were very friendly and efficient. Nice job, gals! See you very soon.... read more

Las Chavelas - 3 taco combo special w/ 2 carne asada & 1 carnitas (only $10 on Tuesdays!) - Mexican Near Me - Coeur D Alene, Idaho

Wonderful local place. Food is solid and there's good attention to detail as well as fresh ingredients. Items are made to order and from scratch in many cases. Chips and salsa are awesome. Guacamole is on the mushy side, and flavors across the menu could be a lot punchier, but for the region it's what one would expect. Service is friendly and quick and the atmosphere is inviting, clean, and family friendly. The owner spends a great deal of time in the dining room touching tables which I always love. Prices are outstanding for the ample portion sizes, and you're most likely to be bringing leftovers homes. read more

The best Mexican food we have found since moving to Montana. They had white cheese dip or queso, which we cannot find anywhere else and it was delicious. The fajitas were also excellent. The portion was quite large. Vanesa, the owner was wonderful to us. read more

First time coming in, we drove from spokane valley to come in which isn't far but also isn't down the street either. We are so cal natives, living in Spokane for almost 4 years and gave up on mexican cuisine a long time ago out here but ive been following this place on Instagram for a couple of years and finally decided to come try them. We came in at 230pm for the lunch special, which is $11.75 for a 2 item combo!! Like what that's amazing! The flavor holy cow, better than most places in California. We were seated immediately and brought chips and salsa with waters right away by our server, not sure of her name but she was very nice and helpful on suggesting what meat to choose on the combos. I got the crispy shredded beef taco and cheese enchilada combo, seriously the best shredded beef I've ever had! Can't believe it for this area either! The enchilada sauce was flavorful as well. This place has a so cal/mexican border flavor profile which is right up my alley! I am interested in trying their asada next time though. We also got a huckleberry margarita and a strawberry marg with chamoy and tajin on the rocks, definitely can taste the tequila but for $12 a drink thats what i expect so they also met that expectation and they were delicious! They also have ample seating as well and it was quiet in there when we dined in. We have decided to make this a regular monthly date spot, we haven't tried mexican food in eastern WA or W Idaho in 3 years because of numerous disappointments but this place hit the spot, keep up the awesome service and food. Thank you! read more

This is my family's go-to for lunch get-togethers. The prices are reasonable. The variety ensures that everyone gets their favorite dishes and the food is always terrific. They are able to handle our large group with no issues. Their back room accommodates several groups at once and the service is outstanding. I highly recommend them to satisfy your next Mexican food cravings! read more

My family dined here on New Year's Eve and were pleasantly surprised! The place was quite busy, which is always nice to see. The chips and salsa were EXCELLENT! I love a limey fresh salsa, and this had all of that going on. The spicy salsa wasn't too spicy, and mixing the spicy and mild was perfect. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, though the carnitas were a bit on the dry side and the horchata wasn't my favorite (not as creamy as I would have liked). Plenty of yummy to go around though and will return! Service was friendly and fast, a lot of available parking. read more

This food was delicious. Got the green enchiladas and the sauce was homemade and perfect. The mucho nachos are so mucho! It was too much for 3 people to finish and the food was just too quality. Service was AMAZING! We had no sooner finished our chips and they had more coming out. It was so clean, food was so good and the staff was even better read more

Our family favorite in CDA for real Mexican food. Chips and Hot Salsa are delicious. Taco and Chile Relleno combo is outstanding. Service is always attentive and top-notch. Don't skip the Mexican Coke read more

Las Chavelas is one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in CDA. Their food is excellent, large portions, large menu and great service. When you're seated they bring homemade chips and salsa, one mild and one spicy. They have a senior menu and a children menu. They offer soft drinks and also have alcohol drinks. No need to dress up, it's a tradition CDA hometown Mexican diner. We have never been disappointed. read more

This place makes me feel like I'm back home in Los Angeles. Super authentic Mexican restaurant with all the classic Mexican-American dishes. We came on a Sunday so they had Birria tacos as the special. They were so yummy! Great portion size with four tacos and the Birria was great. A little salty but super flavorful. Once you sit down they immediately bring a bowl of chips and some amazing salsa. The hot salsa packs some heat which I appreciate. The crispy beef tacos were great. My entire family was very pleased with our food and the service we received. Can't wait to go back! read more

The first time I ate here was about three years ago. I thought it was absolutely awful. My husband and I decided to give it another try. We were very pleasantly surprised. First of all the decor is beautiful. The staff is amazing and the food is delicious. You get a heck of a lot of food for the price. We will definitely be going back there again and again so happy we gave them another try. read more

The kids bean and cheese burrito plate is enormous! My 4 year old couldn't dent it. I had the carnitas tacos which were good but just good. My mom has the lunch special taco and enchilada, the taco was soggy, meat needed flavor so bad and the enchilada was drowning in sauce but needed salt at the very least. The beans do not have lard which is the key ingredient next to beans in Mexican beans. I know it's healthier but I'm not eating Mexican food to be healthy. I came from a town close to the Mexico border so I understand true, authentic, Baja Mexican food is next to impossible to come by and I was hoping this was going to be it but sadly it was like all the other places I've been so far, just mediocre. They do have a salsa that is "hot" which is the closest thing to actually hot salsa I've encountered in Idaho but in the terms of hot, it was warm. Service was great and friendly. read more

Food's really good and the portions are generous. The prices Are a little bit High, but when you consider how big the portions are, They even out. The staff is always been very friendly, the owner is super awesome. Comes around and talks to you and asks how you're enjoying the food on regular basis. It's been there for a long time, and a little dated on the inside, but it's the food that you come there for. You get two types of salsa with your chips while you're waiting for your food. Both of those are great. They had some chip baskets there for a while that kind of give you the creeps, but they've gotten rid of those, and then the newer ones are fine. Hope they don't bring the old ones back. They were just kind of greasy and didn't look like they could be washed very easy. Everything else about the restaurant, no complaints only praises. read more

Authentic food, great service. Lunch specials are very reasonable and filling. Love their chips and salsa as well.

I just read the review from Kal B, it seems that someone needs to lay off the alcohol or whatever that person was on before blogging. My wife and I have been coming here for 30 years and have never had an unpleasant experience and tonight's dinner was no exception. Everything was perfect!! I had intended to take some pictures of my food but it looked to good to let it sit on that platter any longer than necessary. Thank you read more

Wow, I'm not really sure how to review this restaurant since my husband and I felt our meals were tasteless, worse than a cheap grocery store frozen microwaveable food off brand mexican dinner. We had the meals delivered, which in itself was odd. We didn't even know it had been delivered, my husband went out to his car for something and saw the meals sitting on the porch in their bags by the door. No knock, no notification, nothing! I'm guessing they'd been there for awhile since it was luke warm at best. My husband and I ordered the enchiladas. I had chicken he had steak. Both enchiladas were bland - they had an odd barely there flavor and were pasty. The refried beans were soupy nasty tasting goop that had spread to the entire plate. I spooned a bite onto my spoon and it literally poured off it when I tilted it. My husband will pretty much eat anything and he ate at most half his meal and told me to just throw mine out after I ate a few bites. To say I was disappointed is putting it mildly, I've been on a very strict low carb keto diet for 6 months, but, with family visiting I was looking forward to a cheat meal since they wanted Mexican food - thats what we got. What a waste of a cheat day. Now, both my mother and sister had the Pollo ala Crema and they said they liked it. I tried a mushroom off my mothers plate (she dislikes mushrooms so I was more than happy to help her out of her predicament) and I agree, it was very tasty! Creamy, slightly sweet and decent! So, to end this review both my husband and I sat there hungry looking on as the rest of the family enjoy their dinners. They did offer, but then we'd all be hungry with half meals. So, if you eat here its a 50/50 chance on IF you'll receive decent tasty meal, or be eating kindergarten school paste. read more
