This was my first visit to La Cabana. I'm sure I've driven by many times, but just never stopped in. I came with friends on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The staff was attentive and friendly. The seating was booth style and the atmosphere was casual. They served us complimentary chips and salsa which came with two salsa options. One was said to be spicy which I didn't try, and the other was mild. I ordered the Shrimp A La Creme which came mixed with pasta. That is different than I've had elsewhere and I liked it. The flavors were very good, and it reminded me a bit of shrimp alfredo at an Italian restaurant. The tortillas, were warm and fluffy. They gave me several and I was only able to eat a couple with my meal because I was already stuffed. I will definitely be back again when I'm in the area.

Well ... not my first option ... wouldn't be my second, third , 4th or 14th option. The staff was very Friendly but that's about all it has going at this place. 4 small kids , and 5 adults -$175 (no alcohol) Super expensive and below mediocre food. All the meat tasted like it had some odd spices that doesn't belong with Mexican food. Tasted like pumpkin pie spices were used with all the meat. The rice was absolutely tasteless. The chips and salsa were ok too. I ordered a large burrito carne asada plate ($16) and a chili relleno (5.50) the side. Instead of some type of chili sauce on top of the relleno, it had some type of gravy. Ok at best. The burrito was tiny. I would have been more satisfied going to Taco Bell and paying a 1/4 of the price. Kids had the Taquitos , and they were bland. Fried icecream for dessert tasted like chemicals Horchata tasted like water with cinnamon. Gross! Also, my buddy ordered the super nachos. Here's his reply when I asked him how it was: " "If you're looking for a dining experience that will leave you with both a broken heart and a broken toilet, look no further than this Mexican joint. The super nachos were nothing short of a flavorless disaster, and the real kicker? The diarrhea I experienced post-meal was nothing short of explosive. It was like a volcano erupted in my pants. Save yourself the agony and steer clear of this establishment." Weird food, small portions, dull atmosphere. -2 stars is generous.

There's a HUGE choice of Mexican restaurants out there. If I were to pick one solely based off of wanting the dining experience that used to be, this would be it! I wanted to give 5 stars just for the service. Our waitress was phenominal. I'm absolutely terrible with names, especially if they don't have a name tag, but she made me feel like I was a guest in her home! She is the type you can tell genuinely likes people and cares about her service. By the end of the meal, I felt in a happier mood and appreciated, not to mention very full. The menu is huge like the very refreshing margaritas. You are offered warm chips and homemade salsa (hot & mild) while you peruse the menu. I had the shredded beef burrito plater that included rice and beans. I'll say that it wasn't the most flavorful ever but the beef was fall apart tender. I'm fairly basic/safe when it comes to spicy foods so I'm probably not the best opinion for this review, lol. My co-workers had the street taco platter. Everyone was so hungry and dug right in...I failed to get a picture, but it looked appealing and the plating beautiful right down to the roasted pepper. They did not appear to be dissatisfied in any way. I'd go back again for sure and take a little more time to enjoy the experience. That's why we splurge and pay those prices instead of cooking at home ourselves, right?!

La Cabana is an older restaurant. We went on A Monday and it was pretty busy. They only offer a lunch menu, which is fairly priced and they ghee daily drink specials that are fun. The salsa is good. The rest of the food was just ok. I am not sure there was any flavor to the sauce on my smothered burrito. My friend had the Chile verde and thought it was good. Worth another shot.

When we walked in, we were greeted and sat immediately at a booth. It wasn't too busy at all and ambiance was fairly quiet. Karen was our server and welcomed us in and took our drink order and brought us chips and salsa right away. I ordered a classic Shirley Temple and it was notstalgically good. As my lunch entree, I ordered the Camarones Mexicanos. It arrived hot and full of flavor. I considered the shrimp as more medium sized and of adequate quantity. The mushrooms soaked up the flavor of the onions and peppers and I enjoyed how my rice was cheesy with melted cheddar Jack. For dessert, I went with the classic flan. It was a dense piece of vanilla custard with great texture and form. There was no strawberry sauce so it must be seasonal thing, but it had caramel sugar sauce that was traditional to flan. The other two people I was with, bothered ordered lunch combos and both were satisfied with their choices. Karen was a great server--friendly, attentive, and even refilled drinks without being asked. Overall, Rancho Viejo is a great sit-down spot for authentic Mexican food that's a notch above average and much better than many of the fast food Mexican joints around town.

UPDATE see my original review below. I just read through all…read morethe comments and actually saw some after I wrote my review saying the same thing customer saying the same thing about the same food and how is bland and it apparently this restaurant does nothing about these reviews and doesn't listen to us as customers. I have absolutely no confidence that this restaurant is gonna survive. I would bet you that they're operating on a negative profit margin every month right now. And even with that they just still don't get it that they have to change their food and up their game. It looks like what other people are saying on here is that their sauces are not authentically ground from the peppers and everything that normally people do when they make Mexican food. That the meat is horrible. That they are not seasoning it so whoever's doing the cooking obviously is not somebody that knows how to cook and taste their own food. How can you make chicken like that for a burrito for crying out loud this is all you do in life is put chicken and burritos and tacos but you don't ever taste the meat? You can't tell that it's like not juicy? It has no flavor? It taste like you froze it and then microwaved it or put it in a crockpot without flavor? I just don't get it. You can see my original review below. And just like I said before it looks like this restaurant does not ever read the reviews because what you will see is that this review of mine will be on here for years and they'll never be any response online openly from the manager to address this issue. I'm on a road trip from California so I have Mexican food all the time there and so I decided to have a chicken burrito from this place. I ordered takeout and if they said, do you want sour cream on it I said yes I just said go ahead and put everything on it. I just want a good chicken burrito so I got this chicken burrito inside of this package and the tortilla was soggy and it was not like a grilled tortilla like toasty. The chicken meat inside of it was absolutely dry, overcooked, and really bland. It almost tasted like somebody had thrown it in a crockpot for eight hours and left it cause it just soaked all the fat out of it. It wasn't tender or anything. I was strongly suggest that that would be a number one priority at this restaurant is to not serve that kind of chicken meat. It's not good in any way shape or form. The only kind of chicken meat you should be serving out that chicken in the burritos is fried grilled in your kitchen right before right when you make the burrito and then cut it up and put it in the burrito and it needs to be juicy and not overcooked which means that you cannot freeze the chicken. Now that I think about it, it taste like the chicken was previously frozen, which took some moisture out of it and then it was crockpot ted which took the rest of the fat out of it, and then they served it in the burrito. It failed in all the categories, and I don't understand that if somebody's gonna put this much money into a restaurant why they would serve something like that. On my road trip I actually had a burrito from that gas station called Maverick or Mavic. The burrito at that place was superior than the one I got from this place. It should not be that way and I'm not saying this to be mean I'm being very honest about it with a ton of experience growing up in California with Mexican food all the time. So what I'm saying is I also noticed that I pay a little over $15 for this burrito. Isn't this Montana? Why am I paying above California prices for this burrito? I get the same level of burrito and grilled meat flavorful and good for $13 and something change in California in an expensive city. So tonight, I was very disappointed. I got a burrito that had meat in it that was not prepared right that was bland in a soggy tortilla where it was like pulled chicken and it was barely edible. On top of everything I was overcharged. Let me think? In California people that would work in that restaurant would have medical benefits and get paid a minimum of $20 an hour. With that taking into account, the burrito is about $13.50 in California and it was prepared better. Is there some reason why this burrito was over $15? I was really shocked and I just don't understand it. I would never come back to this place again if I lived here. These are just my opinions and I'm being truthful and I'm not saying this. I'm not your competitor. I'm just somebody traveling through that has experiencing this type of food their whole life. There is much better out there and you gotta step up your game or you're gonna wind up going out of business like a lot of restaurants.

The food was responsible for the least enjoyable eating experience I've had in the last decade, for Mexican food, maybe ever. The scarcity of meat in both the enchiladas and the burrito makes me suspicious of some sort of pollo shortage, and it may be coinciding with a shortage beans and rice, as the two tablespoon portion of both left us wanting, just not wanting more of those items, as they were also inadequate. They must have cheap drinks to retain business, unfortunately we were not imbibing, and even if we were, I believe the experience would be sobering. This would all be well and good if it was a place you could get a quick sloppy bite to eat that came with a shockingly low price tag, but it's priced the same as rancho viejo or any other Mexican restaurant that offers charming wait staff, flavorful food, and solid portions. If their drinks are insanely cheap (and I didn't check) then all this makes sense and you can disregard the novel I've written.
