12.23.25: Rancho Viejo has been on my list to try and since we were in Post Falls for an errand, we went there for lunch. When we walked in, we were greeted and sat immediately at a booth. It wasn't too busy at all and ambiance was fairly quiet. Karen was our server and welcomed us in and took our drink order and brought us chips and salsa right away. I ordered a classic Shirley Temple and it was notstalgically good. As my lunch entree, I ordered the Camarones Mexicanos. It arrived hot and full of flavor. I considered the shrimp as more medium sized and of adequate quantity. The mushrooms soaked up the flavor of the onions and peppers and I enjoyed how my rice was cheesy with melted cheddar Jack. For dessert, I went with the classic flan. It was a dense piece of vanilla custard with great texture and form. There was no strawberry sauce so it must be seasonal thing, but it had caramel sugar sauce that was traditional to flan. The other two people I was with, bothered ordered lunch combos and both were satisfied with their choices. Karen was a great server--friendly, attentive, and even refilled drinks without being asked. Overall, Rancho Viejo is a great sit-down spot for authentic Mexican food that's a notch above average and much better than many of the fast food Mexican joints around town. read more

This place is family owned and ran. The food was brought out fast and it was so yummy. We ordered quesobirria and enchiladas, the shredded beef was on point. The salsa was amazing! Ask for the house salsa. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. Order the Margarita flights you won't regret it! And the second drink is on the house during happy hour! Rancho Viejo catered our family reunion this weekend and it was amazing! The food was fresh and homemade. Everything, even the chips and shells, were made from scratch. We had plenty of salsas, condiments, and ingredients. Miguel, the owner, was on-time and efficient in his set up and all the food was hot. We had a chicken and beef taco bar. The price was very inexpensive and I will be definitely use them again! The queso was my favorite and we had fun doing a hot sauce challenge with all of the different spice levels. Meh. Has so many reviews but not impressed. No one in the restaurant. Did pick up which was on time. Beans are out of a can. Order was taken correct over the phone and the service was great that's why I gave 2 stars. I didn't take a pic of the food. Red salsa was sweet which I've encountered before. Not sure if dining in would be different but willing to give it a shot next time but it wasn't loud because there weren't people eating inside. Plenty of parking. Not my first review for this establishment. Been several times with nothing but great things to say. It's been a while but returned today for lunch. Something is broke here. Saturday at 1:00 PM and very few dinners. Service was great, server very polite and friendly. The food though was off. Chile Verde, no verde sauce, tacos and enchiladas were bland, no cheese, greasy ( not a bad thing) but no taste. Miguel has to turn it around. Not great but you still get hammered with the bill. Sunday lunch 12:30 and was seated immediately. Place was busy but they are staffed really well. The Manager Miguel was out amount mingling the diners being cordial. Service was reasonably quick. The salsa was a bit mild for my taste but probably appropriate for Idaho. The guacamole is made fresh in a stone heavy bowl and we could watch it being made by crushing the ingredients together with two large wooden spoons. Dinner and a show! Ordered Ribeye Steak, Fajita Carne Asada Taco Salad and Steak Fajita Burrito. Everyone liked all the dishes. Large portions and quality food. Check out the table chairs! The food here is the best Mexican food in town hands down. Service is personal and most times you will see the owner or his wife checking to make sure you are enjoying your meal. The ambiance is amazing! The restaurant has the most wonderful hand carved chairs and booths. The food portions are large. There are options for all price points and deals like taco Tuesdays. We have been trying as many Mexican restaurants as we can in the area to find our favorite. My husband and I decided on Rancho Viejo on Wednesday. We had noticed it had a lot of cars there in the last few weeks so we assumed it was worth a try. Their homemade guacamole was delicious and definitely worth getting. My husband order a 3 item combo with 2 tacos and a chile relleno. Unfortunately he said the relleno was terrible but the tacos were good. I had a 2 item with taco and enchilada both were good and their beans and rice were tasty as well. i feel weird complaining about fast service. But when it leaves you feeling rushed I think its valid. we could have been in and out in a half hour start to finish. we arrived on a wednesday night about 6pm. we were seated in the cantina area. A server walks up to greet us. Asks for our drink order and food order. we tell them we need a couple minutes. He walks away and literally 30 seconds later another server comes over. did he get your drinks? what do you want to eat? need a couple minutes. drinks and chips arrive maybe 1 minute later. ok what do you want. lets start with queso dip. ok what else. just that for now. literally 2 minutes later queso arrives piping hot but super thin. 30 seconds later another server, what do you want. need more time. 1 minute later the original server that greeted us returns. what do you want. we order 3 burritos and a shrimp diablo. food arrives literally 4 minutes later. not even halfway done with queso. Food was just alright. we usually go to the hayden location but the wife had heard a bunch of people on a fb foodie site raving about this place. Im sticking to the hayden location. Second time coming here and by far the best Mexican restaurant in Idaho, which is hard to find, we've been to many and just gave up. My roommate took me here one time and I had to bring my boyfriend with me this time and each time food has been amazing. Margaritas are strong and delicious. Chips are fresh and salsa isn't watered down and has ton of flavor. I usually get the carne asada chimichanga and they offer the best carne asada. It doesn't taste like cheap steak, grilled to perfection!! Boyfriend had birria tacos and the consommé was so good and the meat was tender and juice not dry! The only down side is that we wish the jalapeños were covered in tajin since we like it that way, but still flavorful! Also service is on point and everyone works together! read more

Since it's Tuesday at the time of this writing, a taco review seemed like a natural. I actively resist going to this restaurant, although I will say that this post falls location is 100% better than the Hayden restaurant, which is generally just gross. But last night, that's where my wife wanted to go... so that's where we went. I do NOT like Rancho Viejo tacos at Post Falls or Hayden. Why? My idea of a good taco is cheese, meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato. I generally prefer ground beef. But the ground beef at rancho is nasty. First, it's grainy. It's more of a generic meat sauce than it is ground beef. Second, it is absolutely flavorless. It's just not good. Which is why I don't like eating there. So last night I decided to live dangerously (sarcasm) and once again try the tacos. But this time, I ordered one of each available meat; ground beef, shredded beef, and shredded chicken. (1) ground beef, as usual - was a complete disappointment. Grainy, and so bland! It tasted like a lettuce taco. Seriously just not good. (2) shredded beef. Not bad, actually. Much more of the flavor I was expecting from the ground beef. (3) shredded chicken. Pretty good also. Way better than ground beef and not quite as good as the shredded beef. I should also say that my wife and daughter really like rancho, but they also order things dramatically different than me. I understand this Rancho is under new ownership. Update from over a year ago.. New owners are doing it right. Some delicious Mexican food, cooked with care and placed in an ergonomic Togo container for my delivery!
