Food was spot on. We are from an area that had an awesome variety of Mexican food. In northern Idaho, that's hard to come by. So coming from California, I gotta say this place is amazingly delicious. My partner had the carne asada ranchero burrito with a side of Chile relleno and I had the Chile relleno with a side of a crunchy hard shell taco. Let's just say, I was disappointed in myself that couldn't finish the plate because it was so large! I wasn't expecting something so big when I ordered my food. And the lovely ladies that took our order and served our food were so pleasant and catering especially for being so close to closing time. Thank you for a lovely birthday dinner. First time here and was very disappointed, went early (5pm) for Cinco de mayo, restaurant was not bust yet and staff standing around, took 45 minutes to get our warm meal and the Carne asada was like leather, couldn't even cut it. Pulled pork was very delicious. Did not eat the steak, waitress took it back to kitchen and we never heard back from them about it. Super failure!! read more

This has got to be the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever and I do mean ever encountered in my life!!! The beans were not even Pinto the rice had absolutely no taste to it and I ordered enchilada with just cheese and I was astonished to find that there was no enchilada taste to this concoction That was supposed to be enchiladas! I am so sorry to say that this would never be anything that I would recommend to anyone who truly loves Mexican food at its finest!!!! I took home some food for my husband who is Hispanic. Hands down the best Mexican rice I've had, normally I don't eat the rice when going out to Mexican restaurants. Beans were ok, a little heavy on the lard, but closer to authentic than most places. We will be back and have already told others about them. Only wish they'd use more white onion instead of purple. read more

You know a legitimate Mexican food place by the quality of the beans and the salsa. This place has perfected both! I had the flautas with beans and rice and a margarita. SO GOOD! The only downside is I would have liked more beans with my meal but I was so full from the delicious chips and salsa that I really didn't need anymore. The kids meals have a good selection and can be served with either beans and rice OR french fries. This is definitely our new go-to Mexican food in Post Falls. I almost did not leave this review. Because, my husband and I are afraid too many people will find out about this little gem. You always have to start with chips and salsa so let's begin there. Best salsa in town by far. I normally do not keep the beans and rice. However, they use a different bean than the pinto beans and it is a light, delicious recipe that is presented on your plate. The rice is nice and light as well and as a secret recipe that the chef is not willing to share even with the waitresses. I had an enchilada and a taco and my husband had a carnitas burrito. The taco was well balanced with just the right amount of meat and cheese not an overwhelming amount of cheese that you normally get at some restaurants. My husband's burrito was on steroids. Menu is very slim. I ordered tacos that were very bland with little flavor. My wife had fajitas and we had to wait over five minutes to get her corn tortillas. The fajitas tasted like they were kept warm in a microwave. The service is subpar. I had to ask for more water, more chips and salsa, as the waitresses (2) seemed overwhelmed with 7 tables to service. There was a rather large group when we arrived sitting across from us but left 5 minutes after we were seated. There tables were still not bussed before we finished our meal and they started it just when we paid. I'm surprised the menu was so slim with the same old food offers of other places. No originality. El Ranchero has been a go-to for us for quite a while. We've eaten in the restaurant a couple times and picked up to go frequently.. Of late, however oh, I find myself irritated every time I pick up. I never know what the prices are per item as they don't have anything on their Facebook site and the portions seem to get be getting smaller and smaller while their prices continue to go up (we had six hard tacos in the latest order that were close in size to street tacos!). They usually tell me 30 to 35 minutes for pickup and I get there on time and always end up waiting another 10 minutes so there's another thing that irks me. When I'm on the phone with them I always seem to have something that doesn't get communicated correctly. Several times I've asked for a large side of rice and a large side of beans and I get a combo of the two that has a small portion of both for $5.25. So, sadly, I think we might be through with El Ranchero and that's unfortunate because the food is generally good, the people are nice enough, and we don't have a ton of options here in Post Falls read more

Hi my wife and I are new to the area and we're looking for something for dinner we saw this place that had five stars and we figured it was going to be great. I ordered a taco enchilada combo crispy Taco ground beef the crispy Taco was all soggy on the bottom NOT CRISPY and totally falling apart and the ground beef was overly salty which I still ate it because I was hungry but it was way too salty for me the chicken enchilada was pretty good green sauce . My wife had the chile relleno Taco combo same thing Taco soggy overly salted in the taco meat. We did enjoy the salsa and chips and their service The Waitresses there were great. Seems like that happens a lot in Mexican restaurants too much salt. I challenge the chef to actually taste the meat and tell me that it's not overly salty I think there's room for improvement there but I give it like two stars. Its edible but it could be way better with a little work I think they can make it better take it as constructive criticism. read more

They serve you with two amazing salsas at the table when you sit down. One spicy and one mild. Both fresh and tasty. Their margaritas are good and not to sweet. Service was top notch. They created a special salad for my wife that wasn't on their menu because they use lard in cooking their food and my wife can't have that.
