We drove past on our way through town and are very happy we stopped in. We ordered the train wreck meal with fried okra and collard greens. The bbq sause that I think was homemade was delicious. My favorite was the Carolina Gold sause. Joanne took our order after she made some good recommendations. We sat outside on the picnic tables and watched the cars drive by. Great food, casual and interesting building involving an old caboose; pleasantly chatty owner with great recommendations (get the homemade lemonade), French fries fried in beef tallow (yum!). We had ribs and the Train Wreck, which left us food for the next day as well, and we were very happy about it. Rumor has it one of the owners is Filipino and does ube cheesecake on occasion (sadly not gluten-free), so keep an eye out for that. read more

This was some of the worst Bbq I have ever had! It had no smoke flavor at all! In fact it almost tasted like it was boiled and then tossed in the smoker to give it a little browning on the outside. Can't go wrong with Choo Choo. Overall, pretty solid food, and I've had both their catering menu as well as eating at the restaurant. Super nice folks, and the name is no joke, they really do have a train car they cook out of. I've tried all the sauces, and all are fantastic, with the standard sweet BBQ being my favorite. Pork is always tender and flavorful, coleslaw is just the right consistency and beans are packed with flavor. My only gripe is their chicken, which taste off to me both in texture and flavor. We were excited for the South Carolina mustard sauce and the Train Wreck sandwich. So, we ventured out on a Tuesday at 1:30pm to order two lunch specials. I got the pulled pork sandwich, green beans and Mac and cheese. My boyfriend ordered the Train Wreck with beans and potato salad. Unfortunately, even on a moderately slow day my boyfriend didn't get the right order which was disappointing. The pulled pork was delicious but for $25 with tip we were expecting way more meat. As for the sides: potato salad was 4 stars, baked beans was 4 stars, Mac and cheese 2 stars and the green beans were 1 star ... 0 if I could give it. The sauces were heavenly. So much so that we held on to the extras and licked our fingers. Honestly this place is "just ok." When you work hard for your money and want authentic BBQ it's sad when your sides taste like they came from a can and the bun isn't even toasted ... there was no love in the food and that was pretty obvious.
