We heard about Chompie's on Triple D and had to try it. We had corned Beef hash with eggs and cottage cheese. The food was average, although the corned beef hash is homemade. The other dish was Chompie's Eggs Benedict. Again, it was average. I regret not gave ordered the blueberry pancake. Another customer was having it and it looked delicious. Our server, Faith, was attentive and knowledgeable. They do serve breakfast all day long, have outdoor patio with heat lamps for cold days. read more

There's nothing better than a jewish deli experience.......... in Arizona! Fresh bagels, Pastrami piled high on jewish rye, great tasting fries, a good pickle and all the sweets Your heart desires. I have been to each of the Chompies locations, this one is my favorite, but all of them have had great service and fantastic food. I love that they have potato pancakes, which is the first thing I ever ordered from them and they didn't dissappoint! They even give you apple sauce for them, which rarely happens places. The smoked salmon is delicious and is my current favorite things are the ones that have it on it. I'm not a big fan of the complimentary pickles they bring to the table...they just aren't pickley enough for me, they kind of just taste like cucumber that have sat in vinegar for a little while. read more

I typically dont ever over react - being that i've worked in many restaurants and i feel for servers and anyone that works in the industry. With that being said this has to be the worst experience i have ever had at any restaurant. Upon entering, my friend and I waited at least 10 minutes before even being greeted, let alone sat at a table. However, we were very patient and understanding. Once we were seated, our waitress came over to greet us and she took our order! We knew what we wanted because we love chompies! She then proceeded to ask me what bread i wanted for my eggs benedict and i replied "whatever it typically comes with is great." She then said "that's not what i asked" with a bunch of attitude, and she proceeded to pay me on my shoulder and walk away. I have never been experienced anything like this and i didn't know how to react. Our orders came out and mine was fine. She forgot part of my friends order. I asked her for ranch and it never came. By this point i was just so furious that she was so unbothered by us and other people around us. People started seating themselves and i understand that they were probably understaffed... but i'm a very patient person and i'm only bothered because of the terrible service i received. I'm used to being stereotyped as a young girl that probably won't tip well but its quite the contrary.... and i don't think it's ever been this bad. I know how important tips are in this industry and i always make sure to tip well over 20%. i'm saddened by this experience because chompie's is one of my favorite restaurants. I don't know what my waitress's name was because she never told us but she acted like a wreck, slow and like she didn't care about anything. i spoke to a manager on the way out and he was very nice. Horrible customer service! This location has a bunch of young adults/teenagers running it. They stand around talking to each other and ignore their customers. The girls in the Deli are too busy laughing and playing with each other to notice anyone at the counter. It is so sad to see the quality of Chompies go downhill. I grew up going to Chompies and i remember the fun times we had there. I own my own business and I would be mortified if my employees demonstrated the same behavior. When i asked to see a manager they sent a supervisor. The supervisor's response when i asked to see the manager was "I can do anything a manager can do". I recommend finding another place to eat. Chompies is not the place to go unless you like bad service! read more

My friends have raved about this place for 15 years. In fact, as a Jewish man, raised in the northeast, I would say it's downright pathetic that I haven't been here yet. However today was the first time I made my way. On one hand, I want to praise the heck out of this place. It's one part Jewish delicatessen, one part bakery, with a dash of a restaurant for good measure. They have all my favorites on the menu, knishes, matzo ball soup, blintzes, black and whites, babka; you name it, they've got it. The food is amazing! I got babka french toast with bacon, and it was absolutely delicious. I had so much of it, that I had to bring half home and eat it the next morning! Unfortunately, they fell short in the bakery/deli department. First, I tried to buy a Coney Island knish. They were out, and told me that they wouldn't be making any more until about 6 hours later. I was not happy, but I was still excited by the pastries, and soon got help from someone. Unfortunately, when I was in the middle of asking him questions, he abandoned me. I had to go to the back of a growing line to get help. To his credit, he eventually apologized, and I understood because he was helping his new staff member. But he still made me go to the back of the line afterwards. I had already waited about 10 minutes to get service, and now I had to go to the back and wait another 10 minutes? He didn't make any motion to say that he would be helping me, even though I came before all those other people in line. I guess he thought I had a lot of time on my hands, or that I was unworthy of help. It was incredibly insulting service, and I have never in all my years of dining, experienced something like that. Wow 12 months later after a horrendous take out and a woman manager with excuses and a horrible attitude problem blaming covid for poor employees and poor service. As I see the reviews showing they are treating others poorly on a continuous basis. After spending hundred of dollars per year avoid this chandler location and I see the Glendale is just as bad per the reviews. Whomever bought this place has no clue how to operate a restaurant or get take out orders made correctly. Sad to say everything I wrote in the past goes out the window. I would never recommend this restaurant again after the disgusting treatment of the chandler location and no answer back after placing calls to resolve the problems that I see are way worse. Their reputation is shot and worn out. Run from this place you don't need the aggravation nor poorly packed takeout with missing items and missing decent human beings and mangers or nowhere to be found. A great way to go out of business is ignoring complaints or apologizing over and over to mistreated customers and not fixing their problems.. if you pushed me away after my reviews you don't have a clue how to treat everyone and your hired managers don't know a thing about being a manager. Needs new owners or the old owners who never mistreated anyone. I didn't realize I gave them a year to get back to me and they never did. No excuses needed. The restaurant went from excellent to poor just read the reviews and don't waste your time or money. The reviews are atrocious same as d the customer DISERVICE. Five star review changed to zero stars for screwing up a great place and doing nothing to fix it per the multitude of the same problems I saw that others are still finding. Had a pastrami on rye. The pastrami wasn't warm. The bread was dried out. They call the bread Jewish rye. It isn't. Jewish rye is soft. Their rye is way too dense. Whichever family member runs this restaurant has clearly never been to a Jewish deli. I recommend they take a short trip to LA or a long trip to NY and educate themselves. read more

This place is so hit or miss. Sometimes I'm like "ah, this is the best breakfast I've ever had" and then other times I'm like "ugh, this had to have been cooked by a 5 year old." Could not even give 1 star. My women's lunch group is no longer meeting at Chompie's Chandler after over 3 years. The manager Heather has been instructing the employees for months not to serve our group. We were told to order at the take out counter and eat our meals in togo containers with plastic Utensils for dine in service. This manager has mostly been hiding in the back and having her employees communicating to our group. The employees have been polite, however not the case with this manager. We have reserved every 3rd Wednesday of the month for over 3 years and since this manager started(there had been many over the 3 years) has been very difficult to work with her inability to provide customer service. Yesterday this manager advised that if we wanted a server, it would be a $200 dollars and that also went for sitting in the main dining room. We have anywhere from 8-12 women to meet here since they reopened for dine in service after shut down last year. Our group of women meet for meetings at many restaurants around the Valley. All of the other restaurants we meet, have no problem serving. Every restaurant is short handed. I suspect Chompie's Chandler is short handed due to this management. Yesterday, I waited over an hour for my food. I then asked for a full refund and advised I would not be returning. Plenty of other restaurants happily welcome our business. read more

Wow- the fried fish for the AYCE on Friday is incredibly bad. Certainly not hand battered, maybe 6mo ago in a mass factory somewhere. Completely mush breading I couldn't even finish my first place. Surprisingly they still charged me for the AYCE despite not even eating enough to fulfill the regular plate and telling them how bad it was. I just won't return, no biggie. Yuck, the WORST part of our getaway weekend in Chandler, AZ was going to lunch at Chompie's on St. Patrick's Day. Last St. Patty's Day we had a delicious brunch at Chompie's Tempe location and decided to give this location a try. Tip: Just Don't! Avoid this place. The friendly hostess greeted us when the three of us walked in and said it would be about 5 minutes. Cool, no problem. We were seated within 5 minutes and waited for our server. Once he came out, we order drinks and waited a long time for them to arrive. We ordered our food when he brought our drinks. It took such a long time that he swung by our table to let us know that our food would be out shortly (probably figuring we were getting hangry lol). Alas, our food had finally arrived...WRONG. My boyfriend and his friend had both ordered the Western burgers and they were practically missing everything. On top of that, the meat patties were extremely overcooked - basically burned to a crisp. But even their sides looked less than appealing. I honestly could not even look at their burgers because I would have immediately lost my appetite. I had ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Eggs were fine, bacon turned out extra crispy, and the pancakes had black flakes all over them I assume from the griddle. When you usually tell a server what is wrong, they take the food back and return with a new correct order. Instead, when the boys informed our server that the order was wrong, he left and eventually came back with a small plate of missing ingredients: cheese, bacon, etc. They ate that nasty burned, most likely old, meat because they were starving and could not wait any longer for food. The kinish was fine - bland however the soup was awful. Watery and so tasteless . The matzo balls were yuck. I'm a Jew from New York and I can tell you the soup was disappointing at best. We were in the area and when we searched restaurants near us, this one came up. Sounded interesting, so we stopped in for a late lunch. When you first enter, there is a bakery sections that will make your mouth water! Lots of fresh baked goods to choose from! We actually purchased a banana nut loaf. We consumed it the following day. It was tasty, but I like my recipe better! We were sat by the hostess and then it was as if they forgot about us as we sat there for about 10 minutes without acknowledgment. Several employees had visual of us and had walked passed our table several times. My daughter ended up having to get up to ask the 3 employees standing near the counter if they could find our waiter/waitress. They apologized and a young lady came to our table to start our drinks while another located our waitress. When our waitress, Cresha, arrived, she was apologetic and explained that she had been on break and her back up hadn't been notified of our being seated. She was very friendly and after taking our order, brought us a tray of pickles while we waited. There were 4 of us and a baby in a high chair. (Sorry for all the cheerios that landed on the floor!) We got half our order and Cresha explained that she prefers to bring out each entree as they become available versus waiting for all the entrees at the same time. I estimate that it took another 5 minutes before the other 2 entrees made it to the table. I ordered the South Philly Cheese Steak(without onions) and thoroughly enjoyed it! The serving of fries that comes with it was a perfect serving size. I had asked for a side of mayo when I placed my order and needed to ask again after my entree arrived. My daughter enjoyed her Stevie 5 Town sandwich which was huge. She had to figure out how to eat it and ended up with left-overs. My hubby ordered the Steak Omelet. His opinion was that the meat was too dry. He did enjoy the hash browns that came with it. My son-in-law ordered the Don's BBQ Brisket. He too thought the meat was a bit dry and had expected to have BBQ sauce on it. Perhaps he misread the description? Cresha did get him some BBQ sauce when he asked for it. One thing that really disappointed me was that the front of their menu has a picture of these yummy looking potato pancake sandwiches. When I asked what they were called so that I could see the options on the menu, I was told that the item is only available as part of their $40 "Challenge". SAD FACE......I can't eat that much food! I suspect we might visit Chompies again to try a different item on their menu and perhaps look a little longer at their delicious bakery section! read more

I meant to leave this review some time ago but I'm finally here now. I've been thinking of Chompie's since our first visit about a month ago. Couldn't have been better actually. It was a busy afternoon but our waitress was just "on it", attentive and running around with a smile on her face. Great service and great food. Portions are HUGE! Everything we had was PERFECT. We had a place similar to this back east and we really missed it, Chompie's is our reminder to home for us now in AZ. Will definitely be back. I have to say the level of customer service that I was provided at this Chompies was absolutely amazing!!! The young girl who helped me was friendly, polite, helpful - everything you want a great customer experience to be. I stopped in to get sweet treats for an office celebration and loved the variety of cookies and pastries they had to offer. Everyone in the office thoroughly enjoyed everything and we didn't have an leftover, which I was pretty sad about because I wanted more. I have eaten here for breakfast as well, not this time, but previously and love their breakfast bagel skins! These are not healthy at all for you, but most certainly yummy. Scott is borderline obsessed with Chompie's, and I don't blame him! It all started when I was sick and wanting some 'Jewish Penicillin' aka Matzoh Ball Soup, and sent him there. He called me and said "I feel like I'm in a Jewish Deli at home (NY)!" Makes sense, since the family that owns Chompie's is from Queens. Since then, he finds any excuse he can to go, and we've had a variety of delicious items: the aforementioned soup; turkey sandwich; turkey dinner; potato knish; Mish Mosh Soup (Matzoh Ball, Chicken Noodle, and Kreplach mixed!) rainbow cookies, black & white cookies (free with Yelp! check in) Linzer tarts, butter cookies, fruit tart, onion strings, and kashe varnishkes. Only the last two disappointed: the strings were oil logged, and Scott didn't care for the varnishkes. I had their bagels a few years ago when I was in Scottsdale for a conference, and they were super. They offer a wide variety of flavors, gluten free options, and lots of delicious cream cheese varieties. Their lox and whitefish offerings are stellar. They have extensive catering options and make custom cakes for special occasions. In the past I've had some great dining experiences here. My last visit was not indicative of those past visits! Pros- bakery items are delicious and fresh, try something! We walked in here yesterday. I've passed by this place like a million times, but assuming it was just like a subway place, I kept on passing it. I'm so glad me and my husband decided to try this place! Everyone was very friendly, the service was fast and very good, and the food was yummy! We walked in and were immediately seated on a busy Saturday brunch time, gave drink orders and were given this complimentary delicious sweet bread that paired so well with my hot tea. I also got a cabbage roll because why not, which was very good, and my husband got biscuits and gravy. Next time we are there I want to try dishes I haven't heard of, like their knish? And of course I should try their hot pastrami. It was a good find and we will definitely be back! Been here twice. Once for take out bagels and cream cheese and once for breakfast. Counter service at the bakery is 5 stars. Very fast efficient and friendly. Same with the table service. Where they fail is kitchen preparation and presentation. I ordered ham, 2 eggs over medium with toasted bagel and cream cheese. Ham was overcooked and dry. Also way over salted. One egg yolk was blatantly broken and well done. Bagel was burnt. It was visually obvious but the kitchen allowed it to be served. The basic culinary skill is egg preparation. The cook failed and should have redone it. Should not have let this plate leave the kitchen. read more

My husband & I are visiting my grandparents in Arizona & they rave about this deli so we went. After seeing their menu here on yelp i was very excited (have you seen the size of those pancakes??!) and so was my husband because he's gluten-free. So i got the dippin sandwich. I'm torn between $16 for a sandwich???? and $16 for a sandwich plus fries piled high with excellent quality brisket. Tough call. But admittedly the meat WAS dry; it's good it came with au jus because it would've been too dry alone. My grandpa liked the pierogis (he's had better he said, not enough cheese i think) but my grandma RAVED over the tender sauce smothered cabbage rolls. My husband got the pastrami on a gf roll and he LOVED it!! He also tried the liver & onions for the first time and he said it was very good too. Our waiter was funny, polite, didnt get anything wrong and knew who ordered what. Refills were on time & correct. I would come back! Too bad they arent everywhere. As far as I am concerned Chompies is the greatest Deli in the history of delis. Anytime we drive to California from Oklahoma City we make sure to stop at Chompies on the way. Got check after waiting to pay walked to front of restaurant to pay. They had to get waitress. After looking at bill noticed they charged us $1 more then menu says. Was told they're upping prices. I went to Chompie's yesterday to have just a bagel and lox plate which I have had for over 30 years. Yes 30 years. I have been following Chompie's since they started in a little stripe mall on 32nd street just north of Shea. Chompie's has done many catering for me and I always been really happy and most of the mangers in the past knew me and my extended family from all the times we have been there, but I was really disappointed. Since Lovie sold the business I feel the restaurant has gone down hill. First they cut the menu in half. Okay I understand the new owners are trying to save money. Then they increased their prices. $21.00 for One bagel, lox, tomatoes, capers, and cream cheese. When I asked why the waitress said "they put it on a bigger plate." lets talk about my waitress. I was very unimpressed She was rushed, and looked messy. When I asked for my check it took her 15 minutes to get it in a very uncrowded restaurant. I was seated next to the kitchen and could hear the people laughing in the kitchen and talking loudly. They were so loud that I could hardly listen to my book on tape on my blue tooth. They no longer make 1/2 and 1/2 sandwiches which means if your want one half of your meal to be corn beef and the other half to be turkey they won't do it. So lets talk about the corn beef. It has always been severed warm and tender. My waitress promised it was the same corn beef that had always been served. Well mine was cold and tough. Will I be back. Nope, NO I don't think so. Shame on the new owners for talking a wonderful restaurant and turning it into Trash. I know your getting 5 star reviews but These customers should have tried this restaurant before when Chompie's had wonderful Jewish food from NYC and better trained staff. read more
