Chompers is new and needs some kinks worked out to be great. The wait time is average for a decent breakfast place, so be prepared. The atmosphere is "cozy" but they could eliminate the childs' kitchen play area to accommodate a few more two person tables. Once seated we ordered the "appetizer" cinnamon roll, but didn't get it till we got bfast and ended taking it home at that point. A few hours later we had the roll. I probably wouldn't get the maple pecan again. The maple frosting was over cooked and was too sugary and the roll was very dry. My omelet was pretty good, along with the chomper fries. I did like that they had great strawberry jam AND they put it in a squeeze bottle instead of the tiny plastic cups...so that was a bonus. It's too bad they don't use local bread to make it fabulous. Their gravy was good, but not the best in town and not quite the same as their counterpart restaurant (not as thick and less meat and tasted like cheese...weird). My breakfast cohort had the chicken fry, said it was "okay." He originally wanted corned beef hash, but were out of browns. His boy got the french toast, it looked good and he gobbled it right down. I suppose it's picky, but I prefer raw sugar for my coffee, but the main thing that really got me, was the food temp. Everything we got was just warm and not hot, so it was sitting for awhile and that is one thing that is hard for me to get over. It's hard, I want to compare it to The Cottage, since I know there is a strong affiliation, but it's probably not fair to them with me doing that and I'm a breakfast snob, so there's that. This place is definitely better than most places in the Cd'A/Hayden area and they could give my favorite place a run, but they need to refine things a wee bit. I will go back, eventually, and try it again though. read more

All five of us enjoyed our food, good service, and kid friendly. The biscuits and gravy were the highlight.

My friend had driven by here several times and it's always busy so we decided to give it a shot. We came in on the weekend so it was busy and waited about 45 mins. I always say if there is always a wait you know a place is good and that's the case here but if you are impatient maybe try a weekday morning. I had the crab Benedict which was tasty but could have used little more meat. Others had eggs Benedict, pancakes, check fried steak etc. and everyone was very happy with their food. The service was also friendly and prompt. There is indoor and outdoor seating on a beautiful farm property which was lovely for a family breakfast. The prices are also right. :) read more

It all starts with the walk up to the front porch--makes you feel welcome. Went on a Wednesday at 11:15 am. Sat down right away, no wait. Very friendly and efficient folks working. Dining room feels so comfortable, how can you not want to eat here? I had the corned beef hash and my wing-woman had the cinnamon roll w/bacon & eggs. Where to begin?! Yes, it's busy (week days are best). But worth any wait you experience. This is breakfast heaven!! The homemade cinnamon rolls are mind-blowing. Portions are ample. Decor is adorable farm-ish, perfectly suited to the menu offerings. The wait staff are consistently helpful, efficient and upbeat. Pretty much the perfection all around. For a special treat have the Athol Orchards Apple syrup (an upgrade, but worth it). You won't get that anywhere else - it's "apple pie in a bottle". read more

Very unprofessional front of house. We were a group of 6, not enormous by any means. We waited for over half an hour with two kids in a very cramped waiting area. 5 other groups of people that came after us were seated before us, with no communication on why we weren't being seated. I asked for clarification and the server said "Well, let me show you!" He aggressively gave me excuse after excuse on why we couldn't be seated at the many tables. When I told him I'm familiar with the restaurant industry, he curtly responded, "Well you've never worked in THIS restaurant, have you? And you don't know how our seating works." Immediately left. We've been here more times than we can count. Always has been one of my fave restaurant. Seating has always been slow, and we wouldn't waited longer with a professional and courteous response, but this was beyond rude. The real deal and I'll definitely come back. The menu is thoughtful and there's a good selection. Classic favorites exist alongside seasonal items and specialties. Chicken fried steak was among the best I've had and massively gigantic. House-made gravy (whoot!). My mom had an Oktober-fest inspired burger with sauerkraut and was delighted to see this was also house made, crisp, and appropriately sour. Personally, I recommend the fries over the Chompers, which are basically just seasoned and fried thin sliced potatoes. Fries are crunchy outside and fluffy inside which I love. Chompers are soft and well-cooked, just not my favorite potato preparation. Service was excellent and all staff seemed at the top of their games. That is, busy, but full of hustle and anticipating needs before they arose. We waited about 20 minutes to be sat around 1PM on a Friday, so I'd suggest hitting off-peak times for best results. Stopped on my way home today. Sat at counter. Set my Navy ballcap on counter and ordered. Shortly after gentleman came in, sat at end of counter and ordered. He saw my ballcap and asked if it was genuine or did I just like the cap? Told him it was genuine and we spent some time back & forth talking about my time in Navy. Turns out his father was also in Navy back in the day. After finishing my meal, asked for bill and was told that I would spend a lot of time sitting at counter but would get no bill. I've visited this establishment a couple of times now. In fact, I met my husband here for our very first date! I chose the patio seating though because I knew how loud and how much echo is in the dining area. I agree with another reviewer about no area to wait out of the cold, especially when busy. If you are a person who plans ahead and makes reservations, this may be all right but don't expect to just pop in on a Sunday afternoon. This place could be top-notch with little effort. The food is good and I love all the organic and some local ingredients, it makes a difference in the quality. Although, all the times I have eaten here, the potatoes were way over cooked to almost burnt and the cinnamon roll....it was goo in the center. Now I like a nice soft roll and when I brought this to the waitress' attention, she was very rude about it and simply stated that it is how most of the patrons like it. It was literally uncooked slimey dough. Favorite breakfast spot within 25 miles of our home. Food is awesome, service is amazing and the atmosphere is very fitting with what they're going for. Heard a lot about this place so I had to check it out. One thing I really like is that they open at 6:30 AM so early birds like me can get a quality breakfast first thing in the morning. Their menu has a great selection and the quality of food was just as good as I heard it was. I got the Irish Benny which had some of the best tasting corn beef i've ever had. Birthday Late Lunch/ Early Dinner and it was spot on. Easy to find and ample parking spots. I walked in and was immediately greeted by two staff. I sat at the front counter and was handed a menu. The hard part was making a decision. Lots of yummy choices but I decided on the New Hippy Sandwich and a side of potato salad. The iced tea was cool and refreshing since it was close to 100° outside. The potato salad was the best I've ever had - including my own. This is the first time that I did not put any salt or pepper on it. The sandwich was incredible. Bread was grilled and the inside was stuffed with sliced cucumbers, thinly sliced carrots, avocado, spinach, thinly sliced tomato, and a creamy but not overpowering goat cheese. I made sure to finish the potato salad and took half the sandwich home because I was full. It was still delicious the next day. All the staff were super friendly and make you feel very welcomed. We waited 20 mins longer than we would have been willing to wait based on the list based on what it looked like when we arrived. Then it started growing before us. Chomper Cafe is located away from all of the fast food joints, which is good because the quality of food is far superior. I went there with my mom and nephew and was served by a charming waitress named Rainbow. She was so helpful, friendly, smiling and always there when we needed something. We always had full coffee and water. When the trio of cinnamon rolls came out our eyes grew big and mouths were watering. Wow, the cinnamon rolls were all soft, fresh and delicious. I'm a wanna be cinnamon roll connoisseur, and these are highly recommended. The density and softness of the roll in combination with the icing is the best I've ever had. No joke! All three of us ordered the chicken fried steak because it was highly recommended. It didn't let us down. The steak was so tender I could cut it with my fork. The gravy was delicious and all of this went well with the hash browns and eggs. So good! As we ate our tasty breakfast we met the owner, the cook, the bus boy....all of them were smiling, friendly and very helpful. It's rare to find a breakfast place that exceeds all expectations! I wish I lived in Coeur d' Alene because I would definitely be a regular here. Want to impress people, bring them here!
