Choppers is a gem right in the middle of town, surrounded by fancy gated communities -- and for good reason. The food's so good it's basically grandma-level cooking, like she's back there flipping pancakes herself. Only downside is everyone else knows it too. It's super popular, and the indoor waiting space is tiny. If you end up on the benches out front, bundle up -- that morning chill hits different. Still totally worth it though. We haven't been to our old favorite restaurant in approx 2 years (wrote a lovely review) ...boy what a change and here's our assessment: We entered straight to back patio for our second visit here in 3 days with our golden retriever. Brandon (long ponytail boy) approached us approx 7 min later with a rather gruff and loud dissertation about how we need to enter through the front door. We would have followed that directive had we known or seen a sign. Certainly he could have come closer to our table and spoke quietly so other guests did not hear. We were very upset. Then Gina came to take our order and i mentioned how rude Brandon was. I explained i owned my own business and if i ever treated a paying customer this rudely i would lose that customer in a moment. After we ordered Cole came out to deliver our food.. He was polite, calm, attentive and everything we remembered about with our former experience 2 or so years ago. To our surprise, Brandon delivered our bill and sealed the rudeness with shouting at us telling us 'never to come back again' in front of new guests! Sarah, whom i believe is the owner also has a second more popular restaurant has obviously worked hard and consciously to put together memorable experiences with not only the menu but with customer service as well. i am surprised Brandon feels he has the liberty to undermine all Sarah has worked for... I have no doubt Brandon has done this before.. Particularly since he demonstrated zero regard for us or your customers.. it's time to make some changes? read more

This is THE breakfast spot! It's got great food at a reasonable price. But the customer service had me before we even got in the door. We were walking up the handicap ramp with my stroller and a waitress opened the front door and said, "Let me open the side door for you so you don't have to deal with the steps inside and go straight into a booth!" Wow!!! So awesome! We ordered the Snow Crab Benedict and Fish and Chips (we would've ordered meats, but it's lent, so we're happy they have lent friendly options for you fellow Catholics out there). Everything was delicious. It was so cute to see fries and fruits as an option on the kids' menu...that's literally all my son would eat...they get it!! I've worked in restaurants for over 15 years and try to relax my expectations when it comes to service. So that being said, I'm very patient and understanding when things don't go well in a restaurant. However, it seems like Chompers has issues in every category. 1) The waiting area and dining area are small and crowded, especially when the patio is closed during the winter. Suggestion - enclose the patio with plastic and put in heaters! Or just remodel to make the place bigger! The place is way too busy to be operating in such a small space. Very uncomfortable. 2) No hostess to monitor the wait times and parties waiting to be seated. A lot of uncomfortable people wondering and waiting for their tables, especially when there's a clipboard that we sign ourselves. Really unprofessional and unorganized. Out the gate, there is a lack of confidence things will go well. Suggestion - hire a hostess! The place is way too busy to just shoot from the hip, when it comes to the waitlist. 3) The wait time to be seated is outrageous, but even more so, the wait time to be served food is unbelievable! The turn around time from ordering food to being served it was easily 30+ minutes. Unheard of in the restaurant industry. Clearly the kitchen staff doesn't have what they need to lower their ticket time because everyone around us was also waiting a ridiculously long time for their food. Suggestion - lower that ticket time by hiring more staff and/or making the accommodations necessary so the back of the house can make those meals quicker! 4) The service was questionable, but ok. Our server did a good job making sure we had our drinks quickly and were topped off. That being said, there seems to be a lack of "hustle" when it comes to pre-bussing tables and dropping the check. Everywhere I looked, people were either waiting for their food, or waiting for the check with dirty dishes in front of them. The place is way too small for the servers to be slammed in any way. Suggestion - full hands in/full hands out. The server needs to grab things going into the dining area, and grab things leaving the dining area. And really monitor your tables! People are waiting a really long time to sit and eat, they shouldn't have to wait to get their check and plates cleared too. 5) One busser in particular had really long hair in his face and it wasn't tied back in a pony tail or bun. Unsanitary and incredibly unprofessional in a restaurant. Especially because he was rolling silverware. It shouldn't even have to be said, and yet here I am. Long hair needs to get tied back, PERIOD. What in the world is going on over there? Some of the staff seem to be way too comfortable, or have been working there a really long time to care anymore. Really disappointed and we will not be back. Even though their Benedict is fantastic - it's not worth the hassle, stress, and wait time. Good luck Chompers, I hope you guys can turn it around! read more

Long wait for food (nearly 30min) server wasn't attentive. (Had to get my own water refill) my Benedict came cold but was cooked perfect. Fish & chips were delish! Update: I went to a European restaurant in post falls ordered an Omolette and they know how to cook Hash Browns not Black and dark Brown. I guess they take pride in their meals. Ordered the Denver omelette with hash browns and Coffee. My ordered the chicken fried steak and Hash Browns. Both orders of hash Browns were overcooked to mostly Black and extra Crispy. I guess it was a cook in training. Definitely management needs to pay more attention to the quality of good that is being sent out to the customers. Will I RETURN Probably NOT. If you cannot trust a cook to out out a quality meal then Beware. My wife had to remind them about my coffee. I do not blame the server but management has a problem but will they do anything about the cook. The server did take some off the bill. But the manager(s) need to ensure quality in every meal. read more

I had not been to Chomper's in several years. It had been one of my favorited places to go for breakfast. Much to my disappointment, the restaurant inside looked very worn and in need of refreshing. The vinyl in the booth seats was worn to the weaving. My seat had deep gashes in it that showed the foam Our food was not as good as I remembered. I ordered the smoked salmon Benedict and the salmon had a strong flavor that told me it was old. It had no smoke flavor at all. My friend's Monte Cristo sandwich was a disappointment also, There was also young man, who was showing people where to sit, who had hair that hung down to his shoulders. When he brought our water and utensils, his hair swayed over our table. To say the least, I'm glad he didn't bring our food, I don't understand why he didn't have it tied back or something. Been here a couple time. Overall it's usually very goof. Last 2 trips, the food is over cooked. Hashbrowns like rocks. Eggs overcooked. Service is always good. Length of time from ordering food and actually getting it is getting worse. Have had some of my food cold. So, they have lost their position in my list of places I must go to. Top issues, cold food, over cooked food and time to actually get your food on the table is too long. Probably heading to Michael's next time. Never had a bad meal there ever. Eaten here a couple times now and it's a little hit or miss. We went once when it was busy and the food was great, large portions, and service was great. My wife's omelet was stuffed with ingredients and my basic breakfast (eggs, bacon, and hash browns; what I judge all breakfast places by) was perfect. The next time we went they were not busy and the portions were much smaller and the omelets had hardly any filling. Maybe it was a bad day, but disappointing considering our other experiences there. I used to love Chomper but haven't been in a while. I went with my brother this week and on the way there, he proceeded to tell me how much he and his buddies dislike it. It's close to home, so we went anyway. I'm not happy to say, he was right. My food came out and it was cold. I ordered a chili cheese omelette and the only chili in the omelette was a spatter on top. The hash browns were cold and greasy, pretty disgusting. I don't like giving bad reviews but to Chomper I'd say, your quality is down a bit. It's too bad. read more

What a great place to Stubble upon. I love a good breakfast joint. My only reason for 4 stars not five: no alcohol for a breakfast drink. Wish I could have tried everything on the menu, but we got a cinnamon bun and chicken fried steak. It DID not disappoint. The gravy was fantastic. Restaurant was located in a sweet location and offered outdoor seating. There was a park not far away too. All in all good food good service, great location. Absolutely love chompers but had such a terrible experience yesterday and I won't be returning. The hostess was the rudest most dismissive condescending person when I asked about our table. As you know your entire party must be present to be seated. We had 9 adults and 4 kids. We expected to wait knowing chompers is always busy and being a large group. However we waited for an hour as parties of 4 and 6 were continually seated within 10-15 minutes after arrival. A woman arrived told the hostess hey girl I was hoping you could squeeze in my party of 6 my friends surprised us from out of town. She responded 15-20 there's only a party of 3 in front of you. Meanwhile I ask another employee about our wait and he said you are definitely up next your name is circled that means priority don't skip. I asked the hostess you are not going to seat the party of 6 that just came in before us are you? She responded if there's room I am! I said if you continue to do that we will never get seated she well that's what I am doing. We have always had excellent customer service this was very surprising read more

They don't seem ready for the big crowds they must always get. Waiting for a table is fine, since it's Chompers and you expect that. But then wait for someone to even notice you sitting there, and bring coffee, then wait some more for someone else to come take your order, then wait to find out that they're out of what you ordered. Then start all over with the menu and order again and wait some more. I hope it's really good, when it comes. read more

The chomper cafe is a unique place. The experience was cool but the food left you wanting something more. When you arrive you aren't greeted by anyone. Our family showed up and waited in the lobby until we realized there was a sign up sheet. Many others that arrived made the same mistake. The different types of cinnamon rolls are what attracted me to the diner in the first place. As i saw all The hardly eaten rolls in everyone tables I quickly realized that they were below everyone's expectations. So I skipped ordering the rolls. Any time I attend a new diner biscuits and gravy are a must. For my family, it's one of our favorites. We eat family style (order different plates and everyone served themselves) so everyone can experience different things in the menu. Ordered a large plate and we left the large plate hardly touched. The waiter was surprised we didn't want a "To go" box when we left. Everyone took a few bites and quickly gave up. The biscuits were a hybrid of a biscuit and a roll. Kinda tough to cut through. The biscuit itself was good, but not with this dish. The gravy had a different flavor. Not a flavor that should go with a classic like biscuits and gravy. Was very very disappointed. We ordered pancakes which were probably the best of the dish's. Also ordered a plate of corn beef hash. It was very dry and not creative. They mix the dry corn beef into their shredded hash browns. The beef and hash browns were good. But together it didn't do anything. I struggled to finish the plate. I eventually added ketchup which made it easier to get down. The bacon and sausage links were good as well. Nothing special. The bat omelet was decent. Just your basic omelet with bacon cheese and avocado. Overall the pricing is on the higher end of "diner food". The pros. The diner was very unique especially with the big red barn behind it. Our server was very kind and attentive. If I was giving them a score based on friendliness it would be a 5. Was also clean and laid out well. The truth is. I would dine at a restaurant with bad service with great food again and again. But wouldn't attend if there was mediocre food and great service. I'm out eating because I want great food and of course service would be a close second. Sadly I won't be dining here again.
