My partner has family in CDA so I'm always on the lookout to try something new when we're there. Not sure where I found the recommendation for Izzy's but I'm glad I did. Not only is Izzy's a gluten free cafe, the food is next level. Inventive, fresh, flavorful and a blend of traditional favorites with modern twists. I was torn between the shrimp and grits and the Virginia Benedict. The fried Green tomatoes instead of a traditional English muffin sounded too delicious to pass up. It was perfectly portioned, seasoned and balanced. Beautifully poached egg topped with micro greens and tangy pickled white onions nestled between delicious fried Green tomatoes and blackened shrimp. Creamy, velvety hollendaise brought everything together. My partner had a delicious omelet with Idaho potatoes Oh, lavender mimosas with edible flowers were a nice touch too. Only 44 seats including a small counter, so reservations are recommend. But there is great shopping in the area if you have a wait like we did. This is a must try whether you're gluten free or not. I got a Peach Bourbon burger It Came with a good size patty lots of cheddar cheese, shoestring fried onions, not too sweet barbecue sauce and actually had peaches on it! My friend got the Buffalo chicken sandwich which was like franks sauce but better, not just vinegar-y but also had spice. Tasted good with the pickles it came with. Both came with a heaping pile of fresh fries that had skin on them so you knew they were fresh and made out of potatoes They offered fry sauce which was delicious and better than ketchup - not as sweet with thousand island vibes without the pickles. I didn't think I liked thousand island but this stuff was gooood We shared what I thought were gf berry scones but might have been biscuits, they were more doughy then expected but still good. I found this place when searching for food in the Couer D'Alene area while I was visiting during my time working in Spokane. I came in and was seated. I decided to sit at the bar. Ambiance looked like an American brunch place with many different seating options. I came on a a weekend and it was a little busy, but luckily I had gotten there close to their opening time, so it did not get out of hand. They have a pretty big menu with lots of brunch options, american style food, burgers, etc. I ordered a classic burger which came with angus beef, garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato, red onion, choice-of-cheese on a toasted brioche bun with fries The burger was massive and took some patience and some skills to bite without destroying it or getting it all over my clothes. Burger was cooked well and was tasty. The fries were also pretty decent. I will have to say, I definitely recommend the burger. We got some coffees and a couple of benedicts -- Idaho benedict and Virginia benedict. I loved the Virginia benediction which contained shrimp, fried green tomatoes and poached eggs. Let's start with the pros, because Izzys has a a lot: 1. Comfortable and welcoming. Fun decor and colors on the walls. 2. The food quality was fantastic. I ordered the Banana Bread French Toast, and it was AMAZING. My husband's peach bourbon burger was also well-made. 3. The price was fair. Not cheap, but not expensive either. 4. Kind, friendly staff. 5. I saw a review saying it was loud. It was loud, but I think being loud is a good sign at a restaurant. No one was being obnoxious or rude. Everyone was talking and having a good time. 6. Holy cow, the gluten-free options! I'm not used to having that many options! I was actually a little overwhelmed and had a difficult time choosing. Some things are made gluten-free, and some can be changed to become gluten-free. The waiter even checked with my husband to see if he wanted the gf option for his meal. And now for the cons... 1. Our food took about an hour to get to us. It's okay if a restaurant is slow because of staffing issues or business. The problem is that no one communicated the delay to us. It's not that hard to say, "We're short-staffed in the kitchen, so your meal is going to take a while coming out." I would've preferred the honesty to just cluelessly waiting. 2. The seating is a little tight for everyone. I sat at the bar, and it was pretty tight, but I noticed that the tables and booths had the same problem. 3. My husband's fries were so overcooked that they were almost burnt. Overall, it's a cute place with great staff and fantastic food. We ate here for the 2nd time when we were in town recently. I have Celiac and felt very safe eating here (everything on the menu is either already GF or can be modified to be GF). We ordered the seasonal berry biscuit with whipped cream to start off and it was amazing....BUT, it came with a hair embedded into the biscuit (actually baked in). We asked to have it remade and barely got an apology for the hair. The next biscuit came out after our meals, so we didn't can get to enjoy it fresh because we ended up taking it to go. I normally don't ask for a restaurant to comp food, but I was surprised that our waitress didn't mention anything about compensating us for the hair in our food. When I brought it up, she looked annoyed and said she'd have to talk to her manager. We did get the dish comped, but she was clearly not happy about it and again, almost no apology for the issue (which is pretty disgusting). I had the chicken strips and fries and the strips were amazing! White meat chicken that were breaded perfectly. The fries were also yummy, but way over seasoned and over salted. We went around lunchtime in July and there was no AC in the place. They had a fan in the corner that when I walked by it, it was barely even blowing air. I was pretty uncomfortable and hot the entire time we were there. We would have sat outside, but they were packed and didn't have any outside tables. Overall, we like this place. This time, the service was mediocre at best and the hair in the food put a bad taste in our mouths, but the rest of the meal was good. Definitely make reservations early. I went online the night before for the next day dinner reservations and they had nothing. We were able to get a lunch reservation, though. read more

We enjoyed the toppings of pepper, some tomato looking vegetable, olive, green bean and bacon. The spices were perfectly blended. I ordered the Benedict with potato's and my my partner ordered the chicken fried steak. The egg was perfectly poached, nice and runny. I enjoyed the thick slices of Canadian ham, there was plenty of it, on top of a fresh made biscuit. The chicken fried steak was a prefect portion. It came with sunny side eggs , a biscuit and potatoes. I love their fresh made biscuits. They were soft and flaky. I finished my partners biscuit. The star of the meal are the potato's and the garlic aioli. The potato's were seasoned perfectly and almost seems like their twice fried because they were crunchy yet still had potato inside. Well pics are deceiving: everything was cold and/or overcooked, likely reheated. I think the best thing was the little fried onions and the peppercorn gravy. Good concept, poor execution. What a fantastic place! Its a charming little resturant with 10 tables and you do need to get put on the waitlist, but its so worth it. The food was all fresh perfectly balanced and delicious. If you're going very hungry I would suggest you treat yourself to a starter, any of them would be a perfect selection to give the chef more time to work her magic. We went with the cornbread which was moist and sweet and served with a candied lemon peel that paired perfectly with the warm honey sauce and butter. Truly decadent. We then ordered the Idaho Benedict and the Apple whiskey chicken. The Idaho Benedict had crisp fries tossed with garlic aioli, braised beef, pulled pork, bacon and topped with a sunny side up egg, tomatillo salsa, pimento pepper and hollandaise. Absolutely delicious. The fries were crispy and well seasoned and the meal came with a generous portion of meats. The egg yolk mixed together sent this over the top. So good! The Apple whiskey chicken was just as delicious as our other dishes. It came with crispy fried chicken breast, whiskey glaze, jalapeno and ginger aioli, pickled apples, bacon and red onion jam on a toasted brioche bun. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy and the bacon onion jam added richness. This was nicely cut by the pickled apples which provided great balance and served with a side of garlic aioli to dip the fries in. My husband thought it was great. We wanted to give a shout out to our waitress who recommended both dishes and was so attentive to our table, unfortunately I cannot remember her name but I have heard wonderful things about all of their team members.
