I order school lunch from Choicelunch daily for my little one because it's incredibly convenient for our busy routine. It's a huge relief not to have to pack lunch every morning, and I appreciate that convenience. Does my child get a warm, balanced meal at school ? well let's discuss that. Food is pretty boring and kids are not enjoying the food anymore. That said, I do feel like there are a couple of areas that could really use improvement. The menu options are quite limited, especially if your child has dietary preferences or restrictions. A bit more variety or rotation would be very welcome. More importantly, the cancellation policy is frustrating. If my child gets sick in the evening or overnight, there's no way to cancel the next day's lunch, even if it's 15-20 hours in advance. Life with kids is unpredictable, and I wish there was more flexibility to cancel or adjust an order up until later in the evening the night before. It's disheartening to see a paid meal go to waste when something could have been done to prevent it. Choicelunch has a great concept, and I hope they consider making the menu more dynamic and updating the cancellation policy to better support parents and the realities of parenting. read more

The customer support is horrendous (charged us twice... after requesting the closure) and the food isn't better even when you aim for healthy options. Just skip this and cook your own lunch for your kid. read more

Extremely disappointed. My child's preschool used to have a wonderful kitchen but they can't keep it anymore and moved to choice lunch. They advertise being "healthy" but really not. My son is year olds. For that age group, the daily sodium recommendation is less than 1,500 milligrams. Most of their menus hover around 900-1100 milligrams. What can I do at home to keep in that limit? Their meal plan contains mandatory drink. My school serves water and 2% milk on site. The choices are mostly sugary drinks, small container of 1% milk, and bottled water. I've been teaching my child about being mindful of waste. So I need to let the money wasted or generate unnecessary trash, or give sugary drinks every day. For that age group, sugary drinks are better to stay for special occasional. Vegetables - most entrees don't have much veggies. They do offer sides, but majority of items are junk food. They do offer broccoli, but it's raw. My child likes veggies but I haven't seen 2-3 year old kid who likes raw broccoli - even my elementary school child strongly prefers steamed and I think that is very much expected for kids. So, my veggie options are pretty much limited to baby carrots and cherry tomatoes only. I am not sure if I should keep doing this or send home food. I'm contemplating the idea of finding a different preschool, despite mostly loving the school. EDIT] I am well aware of non-meal plan option. The problem 1: most menus, especially those under 1000ml sodium, does not have any veggies. So it's a must to add a couple sides if you want any veggies included. Then it becomes more expensive than non-meal plan, so I'm sucking that up and this is lesser of a problem. The problem 2: if you're going to serve preschool, they SHOULD NOT have sugary drinks option to begin with. Kids who won't usually want sugary drinks will want to drink sugary drinks if they see their peers getting sugary drinks. Preschool is a critical time to build healthy eating habits and it starts with making healthy options available and non-healthy options special occasion only. They should not be challenged with their will powers to make healthy choices. Okay, the menus are targeted for wider age range, but veggie egg fried rice (378 kcal) having 1661mg of soduim is NOT HEALTHY for ANY age group. I also still believe broccoli should be served COOKED, especially given that this is for kids and just how few veggie options are offered. read more

We are a very small school district of 2 schools and its been near impossible to get a sustainable hot lunch program running, UNTIL CHOICE LUNCH! Aside from school made meals onsite, these guys are THE best out there hands down. Are their challenges and issues? YES... and more than we would like to have to deal with sometimes as a volunteer.... BUT it's b/c every school and parent volunteer may do things differently. They are ALWAYS willing to work with us to meet our needs as such a unique school. Bless them! So from the a fabulous on boarding team (Sam) and PMs (Katherine is AMAZING!) to their customer support... They are great to work with. What a brilliant plan to allow kids to pick their own items so they feel inclined to eat it! Even though they sneak in ALL the healthy stuff in the meals... The main meals are actually quite good too! We have seen SO MUCH better behavior in the kids simply because they are eating lunches! The serving process is so efficient, its easy to do as a volunteer. Menu has lots of variety and choices too... any picky eater can find at least something they like. My 3 children LOVE the food. Their monthly meal plans make it affordable for 3 kids, and are so easy. You can buy per meal although pricey, gives you lots of options. Take away here is you can't make everyone happy but these guys sure try and we look forward to many more years of their partnership! read more

The food is OK, some dishes are better than others but seriously 6.55 for a regular size and 7.85 for a large/or a specialty lunch? It isn't even advertised as organic food it is "thoughtfully sourced". As much as I hate making lunch I cannot justify 7 or 8 dollars for my child to have a hotdog and a drink. My son loves it. He goes to Galileo camps every summer. It's not cheap compare to Hot Lunch of CUSD. But there is more choices and according to my son, really delicious. Saves me time and headache of packing him summer camp lunches. I just wish they cater to all camps we go to. read more

We use the Choicelunch program as a once a week treat lunch for our 6-yr old child at her school...and love it! The meals are hot, delicious and healthy, and the website is super easy to use. The meals are very reasonably priced at under $6 for four items per meal (entree, fruit/veg, drink and treat), and the portion size is excellent. Their customer service has been very responsive to my occasional email questions, and understanding if I needed to cancel a lunch due to my child's illness. We're grateful to have the ChoiceLunch option at our school for when we need it, and our experience has been an entirely positive one. Very highly recommend it! read more

Choice Lunch is not a "choice" for my family since it is forced on us by Stratford school if we want our son to have a hot lunch (along with all the other outsourcing to vendors that they use). It is not easy to deal with this company since you have to select a lunch every day even when the menu doesn't change. Their customer service is non-responsive when you try to contact them. If you don't place your order 27 hours ahead of lunch time you are penalized a $1.50 fee every day even though they haven't even started making the meals yet. They send out the reminder you don't have a lunch order at Sunday 5 am, 4 hours before the cutoff, so unless you open your email early on Sunday then you're going to miss it and get penalized. Also charging $5.65 for a small portion of boxed macaroni and cheese or buttered noodles is a bit steep in my book. My son frequently complains he gets the wrong lunch or they say he doesn't have a lunch even when I ordered a whole month at a time. They really sock it to you if your kids needs an emergency lunch as well they charge $1.50 even though they just give your kid someone's lunch that didn't show up to school that day. If your child is sick that day you usually can't cancel the lunch or if you can you only get 50% back even if you cancel it before 7 or 8 am. The meals also aren't balanced at all. Just a pile of pasta, a dry hamburger, or a dry hot dog. The public school lunches are only $2.75 and include a balanced spread and variety of choices. But as I mentioned earlier I don't have a "choice" if my son wants a hot lunch. read more
