I also got the chocolate covered ginger which is one of my favorites. The server at the counter was very friendly and helpful when asking about recommendations. A high end chocolate retailer near me!? Yes please! After finding out about Chocolate Man, I decided to hold a couverture tasting session with some friends and went to Chocolate Man as my first stop. This shop, located right under Third Place Commons, smells heavenly. The rich aroma of melted chocolate seeps out of the store throughout what seems to be the entire mall. Chcoolate Man sells a wide variety of feves/disks, chocolate sculptures, truffles, confections - basically anything a chocolate lover could want. I especially love how they have smaller 1/2 pound bags instead of most high end shops that sell a minimum of 1 pound or 500g. It's great for someone who just wants a bit for tastings and for snacking on afterwards! They also have samples of everything to help decide. For our final tasting, we went with eight types of couverture (three from Chocolate Man) and four types of typical grocery store chocolate chips. Guittard Onyx 72% ($8.31 per half pound) - I tried this one but didn't buy it. This chocolate gives a really intense dark chocolate flavor. Very single note on my tongue. Think of a high quality dark chocolate blend, but amp up that flavor by 5x. It seems great for recipes that just need a really strong dark chocolate flavor without too much complexity. Felchlin Maracaibo 65% ($21.46 per half pound) - It starts off with a bit of a flowery and perfumy aroma, then descends into a very pleasing balanced acidity and smoothness, combined with a bit of a spiced flavor. It's an excellent snacking chip. My favorite of the entire array of 12. Ranked 1/12 Guittard Coucher du Soleil 72% ($9.70 per half pound) - Definitely a darker chocolate, less sweet with pleasing astringency, maybe a little smoky, smooth with some slight red fruit notes on the finish. It's a little strange because the taste between different chips varies a little, with some being more fruity than others. I'm not sure what the cause is. It's a good snacking chip that never gets tiresome to eat and it seems to be good for recipes that require a high quality chocolate that's generally neutral flavored with only slight complexity. Ranked 4/12 Valrhona Manjari 64% ($20.99 per half pound) - Starts with pleasing cocoa flavor but then a second or two later develops an intensely tangy berry flavor that spreads throughout the entire mouth. The flavor is so strong that I find it very difficult to eat more than one feve at a time. It's definitely more of a sipping chip than snacking. Ranked 5/12 Chocolate Man is a fantastic store for any chocolate lover. They even have a little stamp rewards card for freebies every $100 spent. I've you've ever walked by this shop, you can't help but be drawn in by the strong aroma of chocolate emanating from its open doors. I'm not sure if they purposely pipe in the scent or if it's secondary to all the chocolate goodies that they're making in the back, but it does its job luring people inside. When I went on a rainy Sunday, the store was bustling with customers. The shop offers drinks (including hot chocolate, duh), bon bons, bars, sculptures, and bulk chocolate. If you want something unique you can also place a custom order. They also sell chocolate-making tools such as molds, spatulas, and flavorings. Additionally, they have chocolate-making classes if you want to make your own truffles and candies. I was looking at their bulk chocolate section, as they offer high end offerings such as Valrhona chocolate - stuff you can't get a the grocery store! Even though the shop was very busy, one of the workers stopped by and asked if I had any questions. That was really thoughtful, and she was very knowledgeable about the differences in their products. If there's a chocolate shop nearby, I'm sure to find it. The Chocolate Man is located in the Lake Forest Park mall and is serving up enough chocolate to make Willy Wonka jealous. They have truffles, housemade hot chocolate, and even a chocolate starship replica. I love sampling specialty chocolates, so I ordered a box of all my favorite flavors. There was guava, raspberry, horchata, cafe, cookies and creme, and more. Each truffle costs about $2.50 a piece, so it's not a cheap addiction. read more

I like this cozy local shop. It fits right in the Bothell/Kenmore center. I love seeing families and elders buying chocolate and eating it upstairs in the third place books commons area. Chocolate brings people together and I really enjoy seeing the smile on people's faces when they bite into the Dubai bar or truffles. The quality is good and doesn't feel commercial. It has a more natural taste. I would say that personally, the flavor profiles are more mild which I like and they don't pack a big punch like Theo's or Franz. It reminds me of Boehm's style chocolate which is great. The shop brings me back to old school chocolate shops in small towns. It truly is a nice gem. What a cute little chocolate shop in the town center. They have some award-winning chocolates here that I purchased, and they tasted great. My favorite thing here though is their sipping chocolate, which is really rich and thick and not like any other hot chocolate you've had (unless you're been to Europe haha). It's straight up melted chocolate, but it's not overpowering. There is definitely a reason why they serve it only starting at 4 ounces and goes up to 8 ounces. Can you believe it's only two dollars for 4 ounces? That's all you really need honestly. You can also get free samples of the sipping chocolate but make sure you go 40 minutes after opening because it does take them sometime to make it fresh so they won't have it ready if you go right at opening. Tips: they have a rewards program where they give you a stamp for every five dollars you spend. For every 20 stamps you earn, you can save up for free stuff or a discount on your purchase. They also offer classes for chocolate making and truffle making so check those out because they fill up really fast. They're currently about $65 per person with a discount for couples. read more

Sooo I was trying to find a particular business around Lake Forest Park and ended up instead at Chocolate Man. It was a fortunate accident. Chocolate Man featured a lot of wonderful chocolates in this specialty store. Located in a shopping center at Lake Forest Park, I had no idea there was a chocolate shop around here 'til I walked inside the center, trying to find another business I was initially here for. Though I ended up not finding the business I sought out for, I was happy to find that Chocolate Man had a location here and there was a lot to choose from for this chocoholic. Chocolate Man makes their chocolates in the back of the store. Here, you can find a wide variety of different truffles in the display case, as well as bars, chocolate-covered nuts and fruits, drink mixes, etc. You name it, they most likely have it. I was also surprised to find that the prices were so affordable here, especially compared to other specialty chocolate shops. I ended up leaving with a hazelnut chocolate bar and some truffles. Everything was solid. If you get truffles from the case they package it neatly in a gift box for you. I guess you could say I treated myself while here. Nothin' wrong with that. read more

We stumbled upon the Chocolate Man during an unplanned stop at Lake Forest Park. What a cute little shop it is! The entire place is chocolate - chocolate truffles, chips, supplies, gift items, and even a Death Star. It's rather fun just to be inside. Be sure to wonder through the different tables even to just admire their selections. I honed in on the truffle case with its many colorful pieces in different flavors and chose eight. Be sure to speak with the staff, so you can choose ones that you may like. While I enjoyed the ones I chose well enough, they weren't amongst the best (or even the better) of ones I have had from amongst the many chocolate shops I have had from around the world. The flavors lacked strength and emphasis. The chocolate shells are very well done; the chocolate truffle texture was a bit too soft for my taste. I like them at a stronger texture with more body, more "bite"; these were more "whipped" in texture. By Yelp ratings, it's 3 stars of "A-Ok". I debated on adding a star for their impressive collection of chocolate supplies, but since I have no personal experience with it, I decided to keep my rating at 3 stars. read more

My go to place for buying bulk chocolate. They have a great selection of premium chocolates and you can get a truffle or two while shopping.

This place has drinking chocolate (yum), tons of interesting truffles (buy 3+ and they are $2 each), and tons of other goodies and goodie-making ingredients to buy (like super nice chocolate at ~$40-$50/lb if I recall correctly). What I loved was trying some of the interesting chocolates. Now, can I recall exactly what I had? Hm. Well, I had a lavender honey and it was decent. I had the espresso, which was good. And, hm, I forgot the third. But the fourth! How could I forget that? I can't. It was the habanero caramel. While a little sweet, that baby was HOT! And, that's what I loved about it. They delivered as advertised. Bottom line: Interesting chocolates made with quality ingredients. Check them out! read more

I learned a lot at this miserable experience. I took the Intro to Truffles class. I learned a lot. Like A LOT. He's super knowledgeable and could answer any question. The only reason he gets a star. But the class itself was not enjoyable. Very full, cramped space. Everyone helped to make group batches, so I got to watch a dozen people scratch their bums and rub their eyes right before putting their fingers in my truffles. And you didn't even get to try all the steps, especially when others were pushier at volunteering for steps. And yes, I'm anal, and I have a level of quality I expect from myself that others definitely did not have and some things turned out looking utterly terrible and unappetizing. At one point he asked if everyone was ok with coffee, (which I am not, I've been caffeine free for over a decade and I do not touch the stuff) and when I objected he basically just went, um... well we're doing it anyway. WHY DID YOU ASK IF IT WAS OK THEN?!?! The class ended up ending over 30min late, when all I wanted to do by then was get out of there. When I got home I chucked everything people put their fingers on in the trash, except for the one thing that no one got to touch and I knew was sanitary, only to find a massive hair on top. I had never been repulsed by chocolate before, but I sure was at this class. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Still hard to believe how this is somewhat of a hidden secret! This shop has hands down my favorite chocolates in the Seattle area and some of the friendliest staff. Stumbled upon here and now think of this as my new favorite chocolate spot, would highly recommend checking it out. The truffles here really are amazing - super high quality, creative flavors, and gorgeous to boot. The standard flavors are all great but, I would also recommend chatting with the staff to see what seasonal ingredients the team has gotten their hands on. One of my favorite truffles was one made with Buddha's hand (an Asian citrus fruit) that was really bursting with freshness and had such a unique flavor. Also love the rainier cherry and the various spicy caramels and chocolates that they have but truly, nothing we have ever gotten has been less than amazing. read more

We took some chocolate classes with Bill, he is an excellent teacher. We learned a lot and we are hoping to take more classes in the future. At the end of the class we had a full box of truffles to take home with. The store also sells a lot of chocolate products and tools so you could make your own truffles at home. What a great gem of a shop! Lots of truffle flavors from which to choose, fun, novelty chocolate items, as well as slabs, chunks, and chips for chocolate craft at home. They carry several varieties of white chocolate chips (much better than the "white" chips available at the grocery store) as well as Ruby chocolate. Love this place. They have so many flavors I like (S'mores, Marzipan, Margarita, peanut butter, raspberry) plus they have a rewards program which is fantastic. The more you buy, the more free chocolates you get, plus some extra ones thrown in, like on your birthday. They are also always coming up with new truffles, so I'm constantly trying new things. OMG! So delicious! I stumbled onto this shop after picking up some books at Third Place Books (which is also great). Very cute shop downstairs from the bookstore. Hidden gem of Seattle. Perfect snack while reading. They have a large collection of chocolates for a cute little shop. I had the hazelnut truffle and chocolate covered Oreo. So good!!! Service was friendly. Neat little chocolate shop located on the Bothell Way side of the Town Center at Lake Forest Park, right next door to Great Harvest Bread. They have chocolate from many different parts of the world, and in various cacao percentages. I haven't tried their truffles yet but they look amazing, almost too good to eat. As soon as you walk in, your nose is met with the most wonderful smell! It's like you entered Willy Wonka's wonderland. Almost too pretty to eat, the chocolates here are perfection!
