I had a horrible day at work. Horrible. So I figured I would treat myself to some shoes. As I was walking on Connecticut, I heading north to Dupont, I happened to look up at a sign that said Chocolate Chocolate. Who could ever pass up a sign like that? I mean, I could pass a sign that said Chocolate, but Chocolate Chocolate? There was no way I would miss this. My daily troubles never made it though the door of Chocolate Chocolate. The second I walked in all I could think about was the heavenly aroma and the unrealistic possibilities to take this smell home with me. I let two people buy their sweets before me as I browsed and heard stories about their favorite chocolates. A woman purchased a single house truffle, a man purchased an array of hazelnut chocolate and chocolate-covered hazelnut truffles. In honor of the love of my life, I asked the chocolatier for a raspberry truffle.. BEST IDEA EVER. The truffle melted in my mouth ever so slowly. I was in chocolate euphoria. I could not move or think, I didn't bother to try. I was being spoiled by raspberry angels in chocolate heaven... then, it ended. Why are truffles bite-sized!?! Who made up this nonsense? I purchased their house truffle to attempt to re-live the experience. They are made daily and I bought the last one! I left the shop completely satisfied and very happy. Bad day? What bad day? shoes? who needs shoes? I finally tried the house truffle, although delicious, the race to the bus kind of took away from the experience. Ok, I kinda like this place a lot. They take their chocolate very seriously, from Belgian chocolate, to delicate truffles to almond bark, but they also take their nostalgia candy seriously as well. I'd never had mint chocolate malted milk balls made with high quality chocolate before. What???!?! OMG, so good! This is my go to for mother and mother-in-law birthday/Christmas/Mother's Day gifts because now THEY love Chocolate Chocolate! It's my go to even though it involved a 40 minute drive to DC. Since Covid, I found I could have their chocolate shipped, which arrived beautifully packaged surrounded with ridiculous amounts of freezer packs to make sure it didn't melt. Truely as good as it gets. I can't stand to eat Hershey's, Mars, or any other generic chocolate after being spoiled by the amazing treats here. Yes, go here! A small, well-kept store with an excellent candy selection and friendly, helpful staff. I walked by it for years without stopping in, and the mistake was mine. What struck me first was that there is *more than* chocolate: for example, CC stocks those wonderful gummy raspberries and blackberries -- the high-quality version, not the icky dime-store version. (Aficionados will know what I am taking about). Others have written about the chocolates, so I won't bother repeating. But I will say this: CHOCOLATE-DIPPED APRICOTS. My second impression was that the people behind the counter seem to really LIKE working there. It makes sense that the chocolate business would be a happy business -- yet places like Godiva seem to go in for snob appeal. CC has the tone of an old-fashioned neighborhood confectionery and offers the fresh, high-quality stock of the highbrow chocolate market. A place like CC is not inexpensive, but the nice thing is that you can choose quality over quantity and buy just a little morsel or two. Addictive. Seriously, I can't help myself to the mint chocolate malt balls, and I never liked malt-balls before! I started working on this block of Connecticut Ave about 6 months ago and was first introduced to the Malt-balls by a co-worker. The other treats a great as well, truffles, chocolates in the shape of the US capitol building. The one thing I can't do is their homemade hot chocolate, It's just so powerful. I have to add a ton of milk and that takes away from how its MEANT to be. The staff is also great, super friendly. And side note, one of the owners (I think?) wrote some children's books and so they are on the shelf alongside the candy. read more

Last year on the last day before I headed home for Thanksgiving, I passed Chocolate Chocolate and decided I should pick up a box of chocolate pretzels to share with the family. They were supposedly delicious I never even got to try one... however, I was asked to make sure to bring another box home this year. The quality and selection size is amazing for the tiny little store front they have at the moment. However, there is a sign in their window at the moment that they are moving to Connecticut Avenue, near the corner of M. The new shop will be bigger and thus three will no longer be a crowd. Also on the sign they will have a grand opening celebration/party to be announced sometime in November. All I can say is I hope that nothing else changes about Chocolate Chocolate except the size of the shop, because its all so delicious and their staff is wonderful. read more

Adorable little chocolate shop. The staff immediately said hello and welcome when I walked in and I was so excited to see that they not only had chocolate but also those tub-and-scooper candy cases. One of my fave things as a kid was those candy stores where you can scoop a few of every candy into your bag for a few bucks. I only bought one small thing but was really impressed with the price- $30 jordan almonds for $1.75. I actually feel this review is inadequate because I did not try the chocolate. However, knowing that they have choco-Washington Monuments I will def be back here. I went here over the holidays, and was very pleased with what I found. The shop itself is quite small, but they still have quite a variety of different chocolates and other candy to munch on. On this trip, I decided that I wanted to sample a small variety of different chocolates so that next time I go, I'll know exactly what I want. On this trip I had a peanut cluster, 2 salted caramels, a hazelnut truffle, a white raspberry truffle, and a piece of almond bark. Overall, I thought they were all fantastic. The peanut cluster and the almond bark were a little harder or dryer than what I prefer, but they still tasted delicious. I definitely want to go back, as I absolutely loved those truffles. I was also thinking about picking up a tin of the different cocoa mixes they have there, but I ended up not getting any, because I wasn't sure if it was worth the price. Overall, I really loved the chocolates, and I'll definitely be going back sometime soon. read more

I work right around the corner from this store and had never been inside. I went in a few days ago and was taken aback when I opened the door to the smell of rich chocolate: the sign of a true Chocolatier. I was very pleased to find that it was a cozy little shop with all kinds of chocolate varieties. I wish I had more time to really shop in there but for my first time my experience was great. I left with 4 chocolate balls with chocolate filling (I don't know what the actual names of the candies were). They were delicious! I was a little mad about the price at first until I started to enjoy them one-by-one and realized that this was a perfect little size for me to enjoy in moderation. I was also pleased to see that the co-owners (I think?) were selling books that they wrote, especially the book about the chocolate store that I was standing inside. It was so inspiring. I give it 4 stars because the hours only cater to 9-5 business people in the area. Otherwise I'd be there once a week. These Korean-American sisters write/illustrate some of my favorite children's picture books and have an assortment of deliciously unique, DC-themed chocolates. You may not want to look for a parking space in this area (once I got a $100 ticket because I was too lazy to walk and parked during the day without a permit) so either walk, bike or take the metro. Oh my! I wish I lived nearby. Some we tried that were ridiculously good were: honey comb (little crisp bits of honeycomb throughout the creamy milk chocolate filling), strawberry fields (similar to a cherry cordial, but with a strawberry filling that was just bursting with strawberry flavor) and rum caramel (buttery, light rum flavor and a soft caramel, not too chewy). I went into Chocolate Chocolate last week after being scared by the gross-looking three-chocolate (white, milk and dark) blend malt balls at Chocolate Moose. And Chocolate Chocolate had just what I was in the mood for. Their selection of quality chocolate was enticing and impressive, but I had been thinking about chcolate malt balls all day that I didn't give the high-end chocolate too much attention. They had all of my favorite candy by the pound and I happily picked up some malt balls, sour patch kids and jelly bellies. The also had all kinds of gummies (bears, snakes, fish...) and chocolate covered nuts. I really wanted to try the dark chocolate covered almonds but they were out. What I loved about buying bulk candy at this store was that the containers for the bulk candy are medium sized, unlike the ones you see in the candy stores in a mall, the huge containers where you don't know how long the candy has been sitting there. I will definitely go back and I will get my dark chocolate covered almonds!!! read more

So I've never been to the storefront but after reading other reviews, I think I should get myself over there! I'm writing this review because my firm held a morning seminar and reception for 130+ people at our office this past Wednesday. On the Friday before the seminar, my supervisors thought it would be fun to hand out DC themed chocolates to our guests as a parting gift (most of them were from out of town). Chocolate chocolate was able to take our order of 150 chocolates on Friday and deliver them individually wrapped in cellophane bags tied with a red, white, and blue ribbon on Tuesday. The chocolates were beautiful. We ordered a variety of dark, milk, and white in the shape of the Capitol and they were brushed with some sort edible glittery gold. I had always seen this place walking by but never ventured in, mainly because I love chocolate and would have such a hard time deciding what to not get! Well, I finally made my way into the store when I took a chocolate tour through one of the various DC deals. They are conveniently located near both dupont circle and farragut north so it's very easy to get there by metro or bus. Parking not so much but that's what is to be expected in a city. The store is a bit tiny but it really isn't meant for sitting. There is so many different types of chocolate it definitely would be tough to choose. The sisters are so entertaining and very energetic; you can just tell they love what they do and it shows in everything they do. If you go there, make sure you ask them about their story. It truly is inspirational and entertaining. Most of the chocolate is bought but one of the sisters does make a nice truffle that just melts in your mouth. I left the store with a bunch of samples they provided for our tour. Needless to say, they were gone the next day! As far as price goes, I can't say as I didn't buy anything. This was not b/c I didn't enjoy it but more so because I knew it would be gone way too quickly! read more

Yes yes yes! A store dedicated to chocolate! And more chocolate! Sadly, they stopped carrying Divine Chocolate, a delicious fair trade chocolate bar that cannot be beat. They do have a wide variety of wrapped bars and an even wider variety of truffles that can be hard to choose from. The truffles can add up, but even then it's hard to limit your selection since they're all worth trying. (Seriously, all of them.) The guy who usually works behind the counter when I went in on my lunch hour was always very helpful in suggesting new flavors and even had free samples out most of the time. The chocolate here is absolutely incredible. There are so many great brands that you can't find at your neighborhood Safeway (or even Whole Foods)! Also, try the in-house chocolate, which are melt-in-your-mouth sublime. The prices are understandable for the quality of the chocolate, and I usually get a small piece or two if I'm feeling down.
