Liked their coffee the other day and stopped in this afternoon for a warm drink on an overcast day. Cashier was lovely and helpful, real disappointed with the barista who was working. I asked that my drink (London fog) be made less sweet, and I saw that the cashier noted that on the order. When it came out very sweet I politely asked the cashier if it could be made again less sweet, as that is what I had initially asked for. The cashier spoke to the barista who didn't seem thrilled about my request but said it could be made again, then proceeded to add *no* sweetener at all to my drink. Enjoyed coffee and bagels a couple mornings during our week in Bar Harbor. The wait was a bit long which was stressful when we had to catch the island explore shuttle at a certain time but my kids really liked the bagels. Visited in early July on a weekday, not a long wait and some free tables. They have a fun drinks selection - I got a matcha latte with barista oat milk the first time and later a horchata (very thick with rice, like almost ice cream consistency, and tasty). Choco-latte is a great place to grab breakfast or coffee. They have a wide range of dairy free milks which was highly appreciated. The espresso was good too! I ordered a sesame bagel with their specialty Maine blueberry cream cheese. The bagel was nice, but the blueberry cream cheese lacked flavor. I think it was made with some real blueberries but honestly It just felt like a normal cream cheese. A little disappointing, but nothing that would stop me from returning again! The food was good and so was the coffee the first time I went and although they are slow I decided to return. Customer service the second time was the worst. The unpleasant cashier walked away three times while ordering one coffee and a sandwich. They are really slow and if you say anything about it they get defensive and treat you bad for making any comment about it. We wanted to see what the hype was - I can't say it was worth it ...we waited a while to place our order (there is a online ordering option - we were noobs and didn't know, so I would recommend using that). Once your order is placed there is another good 20 min wait for it to be ready even though we all only ordered a drink. So not sure if they were short staffed hence the bottleneck. But I got the chocolate latte (as per their name) and I wasn't disappointed! It was a cold day and having something warm hot and chocolate my was definitely good but was it worth the 30+ total minutes of waiting out in the cold...? Eh questionable. If you want breakfast and coffee in the morning and there are a couple people lined up, you are obviously going to wait. This place gets busy! They have good stuff, but remember it's a small town with tons of tourists even during off season. Be patient. The bagels are fresh and delicious. We came back two days in a row for their bagels and had coffee a few times. Huge plus for the convenient online ordering system. Yum!! This place is so good. They used to be super slow but have gotten a ton quicker lately. Especially busy between 8-9 but not too bad midday or early morning. I always get the choco-latte which is DIVINE. Their bagels are also amazing...some of the best easily (only criticism i have is for them to lessen the amount of cream cheese they slap on). On our trip to Maine, we dropped in for a cold brew coffee around 7.30 pm on a Friday and were skeptical if it was open as yelp showed it closes as 6 pm. Turns out, they are open till 8 pm everyday and Yelp shows the timings wrong. The coffee was good. They had an interesting selection of pastries. read more

The 2 times I ordered a pastry on the online ordering system, I didn't receive it. I had to go back and ask for it. The drip coffee was not great. And the banana bread was dry. And all 3 times, the order pickup took 10-20 minutes longer than quoted online. They're super sweet and constantly working, just think they may want to consider not having online ordering as an option right now. Also: customers, check their Facebook for any modifications to their store hours. Yelp and Google don't reflect it, and with it being such a small local business, it could change depending on the day. I want to give a 3, but my boyfriend advocated for giving them a 4. A nice cafe with a chocolate twist sits toward the edge of town, offering coffee and Mexican hot chocolate drinks. The staff know their beans, and were not afraid to talk through the tasting points of my pour over. My girlfriend had the Choco latte, iced, which seems to be one of the signature drinks. It was nice, with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. I tried the pourover with Columbian beans, at the recommendation of the staff. This is a new bean, and had notes of citrus, and a smooth caramel body. As I struggled to find the notes, the barista took time to walk me through them, and talked me through my first few sips. Service like this always gets me, and although I struggled to identify everything, my girlfriend did. The orange cranberry scone was potent, but not too sweet, and went nicely with the citrus from the Columbian pourover. Complete the Bar Harbor laid-backness with outdoor seating, and a nice May breeze, and this hit the afternoon break my long day needed. Certainly a spot to return to when I return next month. Would recommend to serious coffee snobs and casual friends looking for a chocolate twist on the usual coffee shop. Judging by the barista here, you're in good hands, even coming from this New York coffee snob. read more
