They are doing a lot of things the right at this restaurant. We had wonderful service from each of the employees including the manager and owner. Throughout We sat at the bar within our view was a large tv, playing sports. This place was much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. It was clean and well organized. Many of the customers who came in knew the service and vice versa. The food was delicious. It was well seasoned and cooked right. The fried pickles were thick cut and perfect. The chicken dip with chips was very good. The chicken I had for my entree was moist and flavorful. This is a welcomed addition to the Ball Ground food scene.

Cherokee County has better BBQ options. I ordered brisket from the point/fatty end and received a plate with a few cubes and what appeared to be chopped up beef. Looked and tasted like I got whatever happened to be left over from slicing up a dry brisket. Brunswick stew seemed off as well as it was the first time I've ever had a stew without any liquid in it.

First let me say the actual location no longer exist. The owners decided to take their show on the road full time in the form of a food truck. We had tried a sandwich once at a festival but they were out of everything else and we finally were able to try the brisket. Oh boy this brisket guys...it is the best around. I'm not kidding. Great color, flavor, texture, seasoning and portion size. We didn't even need sauce. There were several good sauces but this brisket stood on it's own. The baked beans have a nice kick to them and the mac n cheese was good too. I can't say enough about the food and the owners came out and chatted and even sat with us. If you see this food truck follow it and eat the brisket.

Choate is the real deal when it comes to BBQ. We went on a Tuesday night, they had trivia night going on, but we didn't have a problem finding a table. Their special was burnt ends which is my favorites. I got them on top of their loaded tots and it was delicious! The other person in my party got mac n cheese topped with pulled pork. Their mustard BBQ sauce, which has to be one of my favorite, went perfectly with that. The mustard sauce was just the right balance between sweet and tangy. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable of their products. They cater and do bulk meat by the pound for larger parties. This place is great with a good vibe and yummy food.

There are ample tables outside under a protected and fanned ceiling. Given how small the building is, I was pleasantly surprised to see four or five tables inside as well. Belly on up to the counter and peruse the wall menu and order at the counter. Staff will bring it to your table when it's ready. They also have a drive-through for convenience. The positives: 1- The service!! If you don't mind dry, sarcastic & fun, this is your place. We felt welcome right away. 2- The fried okra: hands-down, this is the best fried okra I've ever had in my life. It's crispy and flavorful; served fresh and hot. The portion was also quite generous. I would come back here just for this. 3- The crushed ice gives a famous chain a run for its money. Yes, it's worth its own bullet point. 4- They serve breakfast!! The menu looks reasonable and they are known for their biscuits. Yum. I'll need to come back and try them! 5- The baked beans. Mmmmm... 6- They have a drive thru! The cons: 1- The beef brisket. Sorry, y'all, but it was super greasy and not flavorful. I suppose I might be a brisket snob having lived in Texas for 12 years. This was unremarkable. I hear the pork is good though so I will try that next time. Or maybe even just stick with ordering a bunch of sides. 2- No unsweet tea. I know, I know, most Southerners don't see a problem with this. For those diabetics or those watch in their waist, unsweet tea is something people just want. Hopefully they will choose to add this to the menu. The Nanner Puddin' was good but not great. My friend loved her order of cole slaw, stew, and vanilla ice cream. The cole slaw is more vinegar than mayo. The stew looked delicious. She enjoyed the vanilla ice cream. We were told by other patrons to try the homemade mac & cheese. That's on the list for next time!

I hadn't been inside since it was Martin's General Store. This place is hopping! You walk in and the 1950s music immediately transports you to simpler times. The smell of wood fired pizza smacks you in the face. Go to the right and to the right is the order counter. They have menus to peruse and homemade ice cream. There's a beverage cooler to choose from as well. They offer free water as well and teas. The young guy behind the counter was exuberant and friendly. He answered all my questions joyfully. I love it! The dining room is quaint and cozy. There's one very clean bathroom. To pick up a to-go order, you come back and watch the cooks work their magic. Pretty fun! Several other customers we're raving about the food. I saw multiple people get ice cream either in a dish or a pint to take home. I was tempted but I make my own so I didn't. It's also the new year and I'm trying to be good. Now I'm home and oh my word- These are the BEST wings since I went to Dandy Inn in Shiloh, IL back in 2004!!!!!! This pains me to review since I really wanted to LOVE this place...and I may still when I order…read moresomething else. Please don't let my thoughts deter you from trying SB and take a look at my other reviews other reviews of BBQ, etc before deciding if my opinion is even valid...lots of them out there good, bad, and ugly. There have been a lot of businesses at this location in our 23 years in the area - I had high expectations of SB as a follower on Facebook and word of mouth reviews. My flight schedule unfortunately didn't allow me to try it until yesterday. The Brisket Tacos were highly touted on so I ordered those on the run...the reviews suggested SB had hit a home run with Brisket, North Alabama White Sauce, and Slaw (cheese...meh)...I had high hopes. Positives * Super Friendly - both the Cashier and Chef greeted me and were eager to serve * Clean - from the parking lot to the bathroom it's a place I was comfortable going Negatives * Brisket - COLD, WAY DRY, and WAY TOO SALTY. If i'd had this on it's own I wouldn't have been able to eat it. I actually didn't even eat the last two Tacos. * Slaw - The Cashier made a point to praise it (I'd seen the same thing on FB), but it had no chance to overcome the SALTINESS of the Brisket. It was like it wasn't even there. * Sauce - The "White Sauce" was widely praised, but I honestly couldn't taste it above the Brisket. North Alabama White Sauce was created by Big Bob Gibson for Chicken (and sometimes IMHO) Pork - this sauce never stood a chance against Brisket. Much like the Slaw it was like it wasn't even there. I added some Dukes today and that calmed things down a bit... * Cheese - Shredded Cheese from a Bag on 3 Brisket Tacos for $16 - Sorry, go "Whole Hog" or Taco Bell. It added nothing to the Flavor Profile (I actually hate using that phrase) and was really the only thing that stood a chance against the SALTINESS of the Brisket. Other * Limited Seating - don't expect to "Eat In" unless you want to Tailgate in the Parking Lot (there was a work crew doing just that). I only counted a few stools inside * Limited Hours - catering is their business (I get that as my family owned a Country Store), but 1100-1400 on a few days a week doesn't build a following. Finally * I'm only reviewing the Brisket Tacos here - other options may be much better...Brisket requires a Strong Counter (Sauce, Slaw, etc.) and the Tacos just didn't add up. Other Options may be much better and I hope they are...I will certainly try them based on the reception of the Staff. * I was surprised at the Total when it came up and thought it was an Auto-Tip for To Go Orders...I grew up working a Pull-Register at my Family's Country Store so Totals pop up quickly and something was amiss. Turns out there was a 4% Surcharge added to my Receipt (don't know if that was for the Credit Card or not, but I was never informed)...either raise your prices, blame Biden (lots of blame there...lol), or disclose this up front. Please don't let this review discourage you from trying SB - I will likely go back at some point and try something more traditional - brisket with Red Sauce or maybe the Pork. Go in with your eyes open and understand you're going to get fast, friendly service....just not my style.

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and a side of baked beans. Anybody with a $50.00 smoker can do decent pulled pork with a little effort so that's my first choice at a new to me restaurant. The pork was maybe a little better than what you get in a can at the grocery store. The baked beans were good but packaged in a styrofoam cup that was maybe 1/2 the size of a usual side order cup(2 ounces?). And the prices were comparable to an Atlanta restaurant. Overpriced and under-delivered. Would not recommend.
